It was a classic trope, after all.
That aside, even I knew what a Kraken was. It was the most famous sea monster back on Earth. Sailors had told legends about them for centuries, usually identifying them as giant squids-or sometimes octopuses. In this world, it was definitely the former.
Regardless, I had to rescue Leki and the others. If I rushed in blindly, I’d just get swatted like Fran. Sorcery was the answer.
”Let Leki-chan and the others go! ‘Wind-‘”
”Honoka, wait!” I shouted, grabbing her arm. “That squid is using them as shields.”
I stopped Honoka before she could fire. Was the damn thing actually smart? I’d heard octopuses were intelligent, but this was a squid…
”For a spineless fish, it’s got a nasty brain… Kya!” Mercedes grumbled. She’d been trying to find an opening for her own spell, but the Kraken struck first. A tentacle lashed out with blinding speed. Before anyone could react, she was snatched up. I’d let my guard down, thinking she was out of its reach.
Do these things have telescopic limbs? It didn’t stop there.

But why catch them? I assumed it was for predation, but I wasn’t laughing for long. The Kraken had something else in mind.
