Volume 6 Chapter 16 The Midnight Visit
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Ms. Sheena? Why don’t we head downstairs for some tea?”
Kashiwagi’s wife called out to me as I sat by the second-floor window, staring vacantly at the world outside. At the moment, Halt and Syu were at the diving school with Tomori and Saran. I was just house-sitting at the Kashiwagi residence, and I must have looked terribly bored for her to be so considerate.
Sigh. I really wanted to practice swimming with Halt, too. I’m certain that if I’d put on a “dangerous swimsuit”¹, I could have brought him to his knees. Unfortunately, having a tail makes it impossible to appear in a swimsuit in front of others. I can still handle meetings with Mathius online, but honestly, my research efficiency has tanked since coming to Okinawa. I’ve been thinking it might be time to head back to the lab in Nevada, but… it’s so hard to say goodbye to him.
While I was nursing those thoughts over tea in the living room, the front door became a whirlwind of noise. The Princess and her entourage had returned.
”C’mon, Halt! Let’s hurry up and watch the rest of what we started yesterday!” Syu shouted.
”Give it a rest, Syu,” Halt replied. “We used up so much energy out there. Let’s take a break first. It’s the perfect time for a snack anyway.”
”No! Saran told me that binge-watching anime at night is bad for my eyes. I have to finish the second half of the season before dinner!”
”I’m telling you… the DVDs aren’t going to run away!” Halt groaned.
Despite his griping, Halt actually seemed to take good care of Syu. Given how much she has grown, the visual was a bit jarring, but they had a natural vibe-almost like a real brother and sister.
When night fell, Halt’s father, George, stopped by. He’s been constantly flying between here and the States to keep an eye on the Princess.
”So, Halt. When April rolls around, I want you to take Syu to Tokyo,” George said. “I want to introduce Princess Shushurria to the AWCC staff, and maybe a few government officials. It’s strictly off-the-record, but we need Japan’s cooperation for diplomatic reasons.”
”Got it, Dad. I’ll keep a leash on her so she doesn’t do anything rude,” Halt said.
”Hey! Halt! I would never be so rude!” Syu barked. “I can carry myself like a proper Princess, thank you very much. But… Mr. George? You said ‘this country’ just now… isn’t Okinawa part of America?”
At Shushurria’s casual remark, George, Tomori, and the Kashiwagis all seemed to freeze.
”It’s different, Syu,” Halt explained. “This is Japan. Okinawa is a Japanese city. A long time ago, Japan and America were at war. That’s why there are American bases here… but Syu, since you’re from another world, you don’t really need to worry about that.”
”Is that so? But even if you fought once, you’re friends now, right?” she asked. “Just like the Elves, the Demons, and the Spirit Clan…”
Grandpa Kashiwagi finally spoke up. “We are now… but a lot happened to get us to this point. Shushurria, if you’re interested, you should study the history of this land. If you intend to rule a nation and stand above others one day, that knowledge will never be in vain.”
”Yes, sir!” Syu replied.
”In that case, Syu… maybe you should go to school?” George asked.
”School? Dad… is it really okay for an Elf to go?” Halt asked.
”Yeah. I’ve actually already started making arrangements,” George said. “There’s no telling when Syu will be able to go back, so I want her to have as many experiences as possible. Once you’re back from Tokyo, the plan is for her to attend the local high school as a temporary student.”
”High school? But Syu is only eleven…”
”That’s why you’re going with her. You’ll be there to back her up. Oh, and Saran-san will be going too! She can easily pass for a teenager.”
”You… you can’t be serious…” Halt muttered.
Ah, yep. Halt is definitely locked into a high school rom-com scenario now. Must be nice. I wish I could go to school with them, but I guess that’s a pipe dream. These Japanese high school uniforms weren’t exactly designed with tail-holes in mind.
Feeling a bit dejected, my phone vibrated. It was an email from Mathius. The improvements on the Gate’s mana-sealing components are finished, and he wants me back to help with the testing. I guess the party’s over. It’s finally time. But… I have to make sure I take Halt’s “first” before I go.
* * *
A few days later, Tomori took Syu, Halt, and Saran to see the war ruins, honoring the Princess’s wish to see the history for herself. Since Tomori wasn’t confident in her historical facts, Grandpa Kashiwagi tagged along to provide the details.
”Welcome back. Well, Princess? Was it a good learning experience?” I greeted her when they returned late that night.
”Ms. Sheena… I don’t know if ‘educational’ is the word… My heart and my head are just so full right now. I’m so confused,” she whispered.
I’ve never seen the Princess look so small before. Witnessing the reality of war firsthand will do that to a person. It seemed Halt and Saran felt the same; after their baths, everyone retreated to their rooms immediately.
”Maybe it was a bit too raw for them…” Grandpa Kashiwagi muttered apologetically.
With that, the house fell into a deep sleep earlier than usual. But… isn’t this the perfect chance? It was time for a little yobai².
”Halt. Can you hear me?” I whispered, slipping into his room. He was out cold.
What should I do? Should I just take him right now? No… I really do want his consent. In that case… I gently slid my hand under the covers and began to stroke him between his legs.
”Nn… mmm…”
He stirred a little, but didn’t wake up. But… hehe. He was already reacting. It happens even when he’s unconscious. Jackpot! Getting carried away, I reached deeper into his pajamas and closed my hand directly around his manhood.
”Whoa!?” Halt gasped, his eyes snapping open.
I panicked, pulling my hand back just enough to clamp it over his mouth. “Shh! Don’t yell!”
”Mmmph?! …Wait, Ms. Sheena? Why are you here?”
”Just listen to me, okay? Be a good boy and listen. I have something important to tell you,” I said quietly.
He finally seemed to settle down, so I sat on the edge of the bed.
”Listen, Halt. I’m going back to the lab in Nevada.”
”What?! You mean-“
”I told you, don’t yell,” I interrupted. “It’s not because I’m tired of you. The research over there is reaching a critical stage, and they need me. Besides, you and Syu seem like you’ll be fine without me now…”
”I see… so I won’t be able to see you for a while?”
”That’s how it looks. That’s why I wanted to talk, just the two of us. I snuck in here to see you one last time.”
”Haha. Thanks. I’m glad I got to talk to you alone, too, Sister Sheena,” Halt said with a weak smile.
”Really? Well then, Halt… since we’re here, why don’t we make a memory that’s just for the two of us?” I leaned in closer. “Yeah, Halt. Let’s do it. I’m going to make you… a… man.”
As I said it, I reached out over the covers and grabbed him again, feeling how hard and throbbing he’d become.
