Chapter 211 Yamato Hina and The Demon King Medinilla ⑯

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Mmm! Rice, miso soup, natto, and grilled salmon… A Japanese breakfast really is the only way to start the day. It’s so good!”

Carmilla sat there beaming, practically inhaling her food.

…How the hell did it come to this?

Well, Tatei and Yokoo were losing their minds just because they were eating with Oribe, since they’re huge fans. I guess I could let that slide.

”Maya, pass the soy sauce,” Yamato said.

 ”At once, Milady,” Maya replied.

”Hmm… the nutritional balance is perfect. I can tell you put a lot of thought into this.”

Why were Yamato, Ise, and Kagaya sitting at the table eating with us, too?

”You guys have some nerve, don’t you?” I asked.

”Ah, well, you see… it just smelled so good, I couldn’t help myself…” Carmilla gave a sheepish, awkward laugh.

”No, no, don’t give it a second thought, Carmilla-dono!¹ Truly!” Tatei chirped.

”Yeah, exactly. If anything, Sieben-shi² is just being way too uptight,” Yokoo added.

I let out a long sigh. The two of them were completely starstruck. I couldn’t exactly blame them, but still.

”I’m not going to tell you to cough up what you’ve already eaten… but you’re paying for the rest,” I said.

”Hm… I wonder how much that would be?”

”With a little extra for the trouble, let’s say two Great Coppers³ a head.”

”Now, now, we still have plenty of ingredients left,” Mihiro interjected, trying to talk me down.

Great. Now I looked like the jerk. It wasn’t like I actually needed a pittance like two Great Coppers. Meanwhile, Honoka-who couldn’t care less about famous voice actors-looked absolutely repulsed by the way Carmilla and Yamato’s group were acting. She was currently burning holes through them with a cold, judgmental stare.

For the record, the salmon had been summoned by Yokoo using Materialization Summoning, while the miso and natto were created by Tatei through Materialization Alchemy. In a fight, those skills were basically dead weight, but they let us eat like kings for free. They had their uses. After all, the potatoes Yokoo summoned had saved Wrath-fillia, and the Prydwen Tatei created was the only reason we were even standing here.

”Narumi, please don’t look at us like that. It’s been so long since I’ve tasted home that I just… I lost all self-control. I’m truly sorry,” Yamato pleaded.

”If you actually felt sorry, you would have exercised some restraint. The sheer audacity is what gets me,” Honoka snapped.

 ”Ugh…”

Honoka’s sharp tongue left Yamato without a leg to stand on. She wasn’t wrong.

”Honestly, Sugita… no, the rest of the class and Plaudix were incredibly short-sighted,” Kagaya said, her voice flat. “By treating Sasaki like trash, they ended up losing two of their most valuable assets: Tatei and Yokoo.”

She spoke with a detached, almost bored tone.

”We’re only alive because of his sacrifice. We should be showing him nothing but gratitude, yet some people return that favor with nothing but spite. It’s pathetic. Sugita’s logic for survival wasn’t entirely flawed, but the outcome proves he made a massive, terminal error.”

Come to think of it, Honoka and Mihiro told me that back when the class was busy pinning all the blame on me, Kagaya wasn’t one of the people trying to make me out to be the villain. Then again, she didn’t say anything to stop them either-she just stayed neutral.

I still had feelings about them leaving me for dead and running away, but that’s just how things go. I didn’t feel the burning need to hunt her down for vengeance like I do with the others. Still, they had sacrificed me. Emotionally, it still pissed me off.

”I see. Let me ask you this then,” I said, directing my gaze at Yamato’s group. “Suppose for a moment that the Sasaki you sacrificed was actually alive. If he appeared right here, right now… what would you do?”

I put them on the spot. Leaving aside Yukiko and Reese, who weren’t involved in my “death,” the others who had become my Servitude-Honoka and Mihiro-had already apologized. On the flip side, everyone else had either doubled down or just ignored it. Especially Sugita.

”I… I would tell him the truth,” Yamato said, her voice steadying. “I broke my oath. I abandoned him and ran. I want to apologize for that, even if it’s far too late for it to matter.”

”If that is my Lady’s wish, then it is mine as well,” Ise added.

Yamato had a terminal case of responsibility, so that tracked. Though it made me wonder why the hell she just stood by and watched while Sugita bullied me back in the day. As for Ise… yeah, that was exactly what I expected.

”As for me,” Kagaya chimed in, “I’d start with a ‘thank you.’ Then an apology… and if he wanted it, I’d offer him my body. My life was saved because of him, after all. Giving up my physical self is a small price to pay. Though, I’d appreciate it if he didn’t kill me. I’m not quite ready to die just yet.”

Spoken like a true pragmatist. Well, maybe I’ll take her up on that and add her to my Servitude roster. Not today, though.

Wait, why was Honoka nodding along so proudly at what Kagaya just said?

Anyway, putting Carmilla aside, why the hell were Yamato and her crew still hanging around? I assumed it was about the answer I gave them yesterday.

”Sieben-dono… will you fight me? I’m requesting a duel. I need to know exactly where I stand-and I want you to see for yourself if I’m worthy of standing by your side.”

…How the hell did it turn into a duel?

 Summary:

A tense breakfast gathering occurs where Sasaki’s former betrayers join him for a traditional Japanese meal. Sasaki questions their sincerity and asks how they would react if ‘Sasaki’ were still alive. The chapter ends with Yamato Hina challenging Sasaki to a duel to prove her worthiness to stand by him.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Tatei and Yokoo’s skills are non-combat but provide high-tier logistics (food/items).

 - Kagaya was neutral during the betrayal, not actively antagonistic like Sugita.

 - Sasaki’s reputation as a hero from Verity has already spread to Envyos.

 - Honoka is incredibly defensive of Sasaki’s past trauma

 —

 Character Insight:

Yamato Hina is driven by a deep need for redemption through responsibility. Kagaya reveals a sociopathic level of curiosity, viewing Sasaki as a mystery to be solved rather than a person. Sasaki remains deeply cynical but is starting to see the tactical value in his former classmates.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author notes a long delay in updates and the shortness of the chapter. The next chapter will focus on a mock battle.

 TL Notes:

1 -dono: An archaic, highly respectful honorific often used by samurai or in formal fantasy settings.

2 -shi: A formal honorific used in polite writing or by characters with a specific intellectual or polite quirk.

3 Great Coppers: A localized term for the ‘Large Copper Coin’ (Daidouka), a standard mid-low tier fantasy currency.

4 Materialization Summoning: A unique skill that allows the user to summon physical objects, in this case, food.

5 Materialization Alchemy: A skill used to transmute raw materials into specific items or processed goods.

6 Prydwen: The name of the ship created by Tatei’s alchemy, likely a reference to King Arthur’s ship.

7 Servitude: A core mechanic of the story where characters enter a binding contract or state of absolute loyalty to Sasaki.

Notes:

• Carmilla – Also known as Oribe Mira. The five-hundred-year-old founder and Chairwoman of the academy with silver hair and green eyes. Former Queen of Envyos. Originally a Japanese high school student and legendary voice actress. Has black hair and black eyes in her true form. Wears a luxurious black robe with gold embroidery.

• Tatei – Full name is Tatei Kozoo. Natsumi’s otaku buddy. Used to be tall and solid, now he’s 186 cm of skin and bones after anorexia wrecked him (52 kg, yeah, rough). Has the skill Materialization Alchemy and once crafted gear for the whole class. Ended up making the X‑shaped restraint stand used for Sugita’s execution—dark twist for a guy who just wanted to make cool equipment.

• Yokoo – Natsumi Sasaki’s otaku friend. His appearance is based on ‘Yoko’ from ‘Comic Party.’ Possesses ‘Materialization Summoning’. Accompanied by a Living Armor.

• Tate – Male Otaku friend of Reese. Gaunt and thin, wears glasses. Possesses Materialization Alchemy skill.

• Yamato – Yamato Hina. Student council vice-president. Serious, beautiful, with long straight hair and sharp eyes.

• Maya – Ise Maya. Yamato’s attendant/maid. Short hair, cold gaze, wears a maid outfit.

• Kagaya – Female student from Earth. Specialized in sorcery and information gathering. Obsessed with knowledge and has mastered the local language through self-study. Yamato Hina’s classmate. A sorcery specialist who uses a staff. Capable of ‘Fire Wall’ and ‘Aqua Spread’.

• Sieben – Young man with black hair and a mask covering his eyes. He purchased Honoka and Ria.

• Mihiro – Post-gender swap of Yuki Chihiro: Height 160 cm, B-W-H: 82-55-80. Futanari. Short haired black hair, handsome.

• Honoka – Petite, cute “transistor‑glamour” girl with high‑level healing magic, built like a tiny bomb of lewdness and huge breasts. Started as a cold‑hearted slave mocking Sasaki, then flipped into full devoted “Goshujin‑sama” maid mode, obsessed with his scent and desperate to bear his child. Used to be Hidaka’s obsession, later violated by Sugita, which left her furious and tightly protective of the protagonist. Bashful smiles, but the second anything touches him she goes nuclear. Usually in a sleazy maid outfit, the anti‑aesthetic to Lotte and Nadja’s clean uniforms.

• Narumi – Narumi Honoka. A member of the relief team with healing magic. Despite her cute, short, ‘transistor glamour’ appearance, she is cold-hearted and mocks Sasaki. Black hair, black eyes.

• Sasaki – The protagonist, 168–171 cm and 57–59 kg, with a baby face hidden by black bangs. Once bullied and thought dead by the Sugita gang, he now fights as the gladiator Seven. Wielder of Snatch and Time Compression, he’s the hidden source of many curses and a shapeshifter. Dressed in green scale armor with a blood‑red muffler, he wields dual longswords.

• Sugita – Leader of the Sugita gang and main bully of Natsumi Sasaki, born into heavy police privilege—his grandfather is the Superintendent General, his father a Superintendent—so every mess he causes gets buried. Lean build, sharp features, that cold, arrogant “I can get away with it” stare. Wields the unique skill Steal (窃盗), which he uses to manipulate minds and control women. Once impersonated the hero Sieben with a mask and greatsword, but lost everything and dropped to Level 7. He’s a “Hero” cursed to die and resurrect endlessly—turned into a Lesser Vampire, executed, and ultimately erased from existence.

• Reese – Jessica’s sister. Described by Alice as a beautiful blonde lady. She was previously under the control of Sugita’s skill and left in a state of despair and exposure after the effect ended.

• Yuki – Yuki Chihiro. Height 178 cm, weight 70 kg (Male). Natsumi’s childhood friend. A handsome, athletic top student in the soccer club.

• Mei – One of the Kijima twins, a longbow girl who shoots arrows of light and marches through the Envyos Labyrinth as part of Chihiro’s party. Looks like a living corpse—pale, quiet, almost robotic in combat—but sharp, precise, and terrifyingly loyal to the protagonist, always calling him Goshujin‑sama under that cold, undead mask.

• Ria – A beautiful woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. Has a beauty mark (mole) under her right eye. Well-balanced proportions.

• Hina – Yamato Hina. Student council vice-president. Serious, beautiful, with long straight hair and sharp eyes.
