Chapter 37 The Girls During Their Separate Actions

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”Are you all prepared?”

Erina scanned those sitting across from her with a sharp, piercing gaze.

The group that had chosen to remain in the human territories sat huddled together in a room at the inn. The smiles they usually wore had vanished, replaced by a keen, hardened resolve.

”I didn’t struggle through weaning myself off Master’s help just to flinch now ssu,” Shuri said.

”Naturally,” Olivia added. “Regardless of how this ends, we cannot do anything that would bring shame to Ibuki-sama.”

At their words, the others nodded firmly.

”Um… what exactly should I be doing…?” Lotte asked, her voice trembling.

”Right. I suppose I should explain my vision first,” Erina said. She began to outline the path they would take to rise through the ranks.

”Since there are people involved, I believe it’s best if we build our reputations separately at first.”

She spread a map across the table and pointed to the area surrounding the Royal Capital.

”We will hit every Subjugators Guild¹ in the towns surrounding the capital and reach Special Grade² at record speed. Hero Class requires national certification, which might be out of our reach for now, but we can certainly make Special Grade. Once we’ve reached that level, we’ll converge on the Capital, form a Knight Order, and after making a name for ourselves, we’ll move our base of operations to the frontier.”

As she finished the explanation, Meena spoke up.

 ”Wait… why the frontier?”

”To keep the crown from breathing down our necks,” Erina replied. “In the frontier, a Subjugator carries more weight than they do in the Capital.”

The others murmured in understanding. “The frontier is always suffering from monster attacks, after all,” someone noted.

Exactly. Rulers in the borderlands want strong people to settle down. Because of that, the common wisdom was that frontier lords generally didn’t make unreasonable demands of their elites.

”I’m hoping we can choose a strong territory, do them a few favors, and secure a standing for ourselves there,” Erina said.

”Whoa. You’ve really thought this through, haven’t you? You’ve got the whole thing mapped out ssu,” Shuri exclaimed.

 Erina shook her head.

”Reality won’t be that kind. Normally, it’s impossible to get status without swearing fealty. This plan assumes things go perfectly. But even just demonstrating our power has value. Either way, expect it to take a few years before our foundation is truly solid.”

”That’s to be expected,” Olivia said. “Even for a Hero, it usually takes years to make a name for themselves.”

The others, who had looked bitter at the thought of the long road ahead, now wore expressions of grim determination.

”Um, will we be acting separately from Lady Lisha and Shirley?” Fran asked.

Lisha had already begun her activities with the Sha-sha³ brand, with Shirley acting as her guard. Fran wondered if they wouldn’t be cooperating.

”If our paths cross, then of course. But we all have to avoid being tied down by the authorities, and it’s difficult to keep everyone’s pace perfectly aligned,” Erina said. She looked troubled. “A situation might arise where we have to leave a town at a moment’s notice.”

”No, I think what Fran is trying to say is this,” Shuri interjected. “Those two are on their own. If we’re in the same area, shouldn’t we be the ones bringing them monster materials and stuff? We don’t need to grind levels anymore, so we can pick whatever hunting grounds we want, right ssu?”

Fran nodded vigorously at Shuri’s clarification. Erina went quiet, looking thoughtful.

”I hadn’t considered that since Sha-sha doesn’t have a manufacturing line or horizontal connections yet, but… you’re right. I’ll send a letter and ask Shirley later,” Erina said. “They might start building those connections from here on out.”

Erina brought the meeting to a close. “Now, if there are no objections to this direction, let’s split into groups. Our primary objective: flaunt our military might and make our names known. Understood?”

With a round of nods, the groups were decided. Three parties set out across the land, led by Erina, Olivia, and Rosanna.

Erina took Lotte. Olivia took Meena and Fran. Rosanna took Shuri.

Scattered in these small parties, the girls began to stir up the local Subjugators Guilds day after day. In every town, they became the only thing anyone talked about. It reached the point where merchants were desperately trying to track them down just to establish a connection.

And so, each of them began their smooth ascent to fame.

* * *

Around the time their names began to spread, Lisha and Shirley, who were busy scrambling to establish the Sha-sha brand, found themselves at a crossroads. The two of them cleared the back of their shop for a private discussion.

”Lady Lisha, I believe we’ve reached a point where we can step back from this location, but…” Shirley said.

”True. But I wonder where we should go next? I feel like the Capital is still a bit premature. I’ve heard that if you stand out in the Capital without a solid reputation, you just become a target,” Lisha replied.

As Ibuki had instructed, the two had rapidly trained a staff capable of managing the shop. Now, they were looking for their next move.

”You mean we’ll be crushed if we haven’t made a name for ourselves first?” Shirley asked.

Lisha nodded. “I’ve heard stories of harassment-competitors flooding the market with cheap imitations to drive you out. Of course, since these are Ibuki-sama’s products, even a ‘similar’ item would be in a league of its own, so we’d definitely win. But it’s a problem if they spread nasty rumors and make us out to be the villains. If our goal is to build a standing for ourselves…”

”Ah…” Shirley made a sour face. That would be completely counterproductive.

”I think we’d be fine in other towns, but… it takes so much time. If we set up branches everywhere and organized our own merchant caravans, they could handle things on their own. But who knows how long it will take for the name Sha-sha to command that kind of respect…” Lisha said.

”Ugh… not being able to see Master until then is going to be brutal…” Shirley said.

A heavy gloom settled over both of them for a moment, before Lisha let out a sigh and pulled herself together.

”Well, compared to our time in the village, this is nothing. We’ll just have to endure. Let’s look at it this way: the more we work now, the sooner we can go home,” Lisha said.

”Ah, I like that way of thinking! It gets me fired up. Honestly, Lady Lisha doesn’t even need a guard. I’ll help out on the business side too,” Shirley said.

”Let’s do that then,” Lisha agreed. Then, her expression shifted. “Hehe… I wonder if the others have realized it by now?” She gave Shirley a meaningful smile.

”No, I think they knew from the start. Erina likely stepped up because she understood,” Shirley said.

”But I bet some of the younger ones still don’t get it. The fact that they’re already at the top level, even among Heroes…” Lisha said.

Their rate of growth was, quite frankly, insane. The younger girls had been surprised by the power they could output, but they didn’t seem to grasp the sheer scale of it. Recalling those days of training, Lisha smiled as she thought of the girls working to form their Knight Order.

”It’s been six months, after all. Six months of racking up kills at a thousand times the rate of any normal person, every single day…” Lisha said.

Normally, once you factor in the time to haul back the corpses, a Subjugator only manages a few kills a day. Killing thousands was simply impossible. The claim that Lisha didn’t need a guard was a fact, plain and simple.

”And they were training in an area that’s leagues more dangerous than even the frontier. Those monsters were the kind where a single one could wipe out a whole village. Even I, with a non-combat class, have become this strong,” Lisha said.

The girls shared a wry smile, remembering the days when monsters did nothing but fall and die before them.

”Still… Ibuki-sama is late. He said he’d come to see us once we’d picked a location…” Shirley’s voice trailed off as she looked down.

”Don’t say such scary things… now I’m getting worried,” Lisha said.

”No, if he’s in the demi-human lands, I’m not worried about his safety. Ibuki-sama himself is Hero-class, and he has those god-like skills,” Shirley said.

”That’s not what I’m talking about! I’m worried he’ll get distracted by the women over there and just… cast us aside…” Lisha said. Her voice was thick with the fear of being forgotten.

”Ibuki-sama is not the type of man to break a promise like that!” Shirley said.

”I know that, but I’m still scared! Aren’t you, Shirley?”

”I… I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t anxious. But I believe in him,” Shirley said.

Even as she said it, Shirley lowered her head. Seeing this, Lisha sighed.

”Haa… I’m sorry for bringing up such a trivial thing. If we’re that scared, then we just have to finish this up even faster,” Lisha said.

”Yes… let’s wrap this up quickly and go find him ourselves. He already made a path for us, and if it’s a base Ibuki-sama built, we’ll know it when we see it,” Shirley said.

The tunnel. Ibuki had secretly constructed it through the Rock Valley mountain range, just in case. He had already shown them how to enter the cleverly hidden passage. “You can use this to cross to the other side whenever you want,” he had told them.

The memory gave them a new surge of energy.

”Then, to give ourselves a reason to go, shall we scale up our training of new personnel? If we suddenly ‘need’ a massive amount of inventory, we’ll have a perfectly good excuse to go see him,” Lisha said.

”That’s it! We can send people ahead to scout and rent shop space in no time,” Shirley said.

The two of them stood up and immediately sprang into action. All so they could have an excuse to see Ibuki.

 Summary:

Erina leads a split party to rise through the Subjugators Guild ranks and form a Knight Order on the frontier to maintain independence. Meanwhile, Lisha and Shirley manage the brand ‘Sha-sha,’ navigating business politics while longing to reunite with Ibuki. Both groups decide to accelerate their plans to create a valid excuse to cross the hidden mountain tunnel and see their Master again.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The girls have undergone 6 months of training at 1000x the normal rate.

 - Lisha, despite being a non-combat class, is now village-annihilator level.

 - The ‘frontier’ is strategically chosen to avoid government control.

 - Ibuki built a secret tunnel through the Rock Valley mountains for them.

 - Hero Class requires national certification, unlike Special Grade

 —

 Character Insight:

The girls demonstrate a shift from dependency to strategic independence, but their core motivation remains their deep emotional attachment (and insecurity) regarding Ibuki.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author focuses on the ‘logistics of power’—explaining why high-level characters don’t just stay in the capital (politics vs. freedom).

 TL Notes:
