Chapter 212 Yamato Hina and the Demon King Medinilla ⑰
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Viede, the Envyos Magic Academy¹, has a facility that’s absolutely perfect for mock battles. Mihiro described it as-to put it simply-a “highly sophisticated VR fighting game.” Having tried it out myself, I see exactly what they meant.
”I’m impressed. It’s a perfect recreation of me. Right down to my gear,” I muttered.
I couldn’t help but admire how seamless it felt. From my physical form to my raw stats, it was a total duplicate of Sieben. This was undoubtedly the work of a Hero from the past, someone possessing the same Unique Skill² as Tatei. However, a “perfect recreation” had its limits-Unique Skills didn’t seem to carry over. I tried to trigger my Magic Sword, but nothing happened.
Well, fine. If that’s the case, I’ll just fight with my base strength. Even without the Magic Sword, I’m not worried.
”Sieben-dono, I am grateful you indulged my selfishness,” Yamato Hina said, bowing her head.
She stood opposite me, a shortsword in her right hand and a buckler in her left. The blade was about twenty inches long and fairly wide-a classic gladius. The shield was roughly sixteen inches across. Her armor was designed with a feminine touch; it wasn’t quite “bikini armor,” but the chest plate definitely emphasized her curves. With her breastplate, spaulders, gauntlets, and greaves-and likely a suit of chainmail underneath-she looked every bit the warrior princess.
Though, I wasn’t sure what to make of the miniskirt. If she moved too wildly during the fight, the whole crowd was going to get a show. One look at her gear was enough to tell it was top-tier stuff. Probably Miss Lil’s handiwork.
”Don’t mention it,” I replied. “I was curious to see what you’re actually capable of, anyway.”
”I see. Then I shall give you my all, so as not to disappoint.”
Hina dropped into a low crouch, left foot forward, shield held high, and her gladius tucked into a low guard. I took my usual stance: dual-wielding greatswords. Left side forward, blade tips angled toward the ground. The Stance of Nothingness³.
A roar of cheers erupted from the stands.
”Go for it, Hina!”
”Kick that suspicious masked freak’s ass!”
”Haruna-sama!”
”Big sis Haruna!”
Yamato is a student here, after all. It’s only natural the crowd is on her side. Though, there sure are a lot of high-pitched squeals in there. Come to think of it, she was always more popular with the girls than the guys, even before we were summoned. But “suspicious”? Really? I mean, sure, to an outsider I probably look sketchy as hell, but still.
”Goshujin-sama! Go get ’em!”
”Sieben, do your best!”
”Sieben, let’s do lots of… feel-good stuff when you’re done, okay?”
Wait, what?
”Yukiko, what the hell are you saying?!” I shouted. The people around her had literally frozen in place. And what was worse…
”Why does a creep like that get…?”
”If only hatred could kill…!”
”Dammit! I’m not jealous! I’m totally not jealous at all!”
Yikes. The male students were practically shooting lasers of pure loathing at me.
”Um, Yukiko, maybe we should keep that kind of talk out of the public eye? I mean, it’s too late now, but… though, I’d like some of that too,” Honoka added.
”Yeah… good point. Me too, honestly,” Reese chimed in.
”A-ahaha… I feel the same, but maybe we should think about the people around us? And about Sieben?” Mihiro tried to play peacemaker.
Reese! Honoka! Mihiro! What are you doing?! You’re just fanning the flames!
”Kill him! Someone please just kill that guy!”
Wow. There’s nothing uglier than a loser’s jealousy. But do you really have to cry literal tears of blood?
”Sieben-dono…”
I looked over to see Hina giving me the coldest, most judgmental stare I’ve ever seen.
”You truly are an enemy to women, aren’t you?”
”Really? As a male specimen, I’d argue he’s actually quite exceptional,” Kagaya countered.
Their opinions couldn’t be further apart. I remember Kagaya Ise always had a bit of a chip on her shoulder regarding men. She was especially harsh on Hagimoto. Is she a lesbian? A feminist? Maybe both?
”Ahem. Anyway,” Carmilla said, her voice dripping with exasperation. “Setting aside your romantic entanglements… are you both ready?”
”No problem here,” I said.
”Yes. Ready when you are,” Hina replied.
My fighting spirit had taken a bit of a hit, but Carmilla’s voice snapped me back into focus. This was a “safe” fight, but it would still hurt, and Hina wasn’t the kind of opponent I could afford to take lightly.
”Very well. Then… let the match between Hina and Sieben begin. Start!”
At Carmilla’s signal, the duel began.
* * *
Two minutes must have passed. Neither of us had moved an inch. The crowd, which had been watching with bated breath, was starting to get restless. A few hecklers began to shout, though they were clearly either amateurs or people just looking for a bloodbath.
”Neither Goshujin-sama nor Hina is budging,” Honoka noted. “Is this that high-level stuff? Are they reading each other’s every breath?”
”Hmm, you’re half right,” Mihiro replied.
As Honoka said, there was an element of that, but it was also a matter of positioning. Against my unpredictable Stance of Nothingness, Hina was maintaining a rock-solid, shield-first defense. It was a stalemate. And we both knew it.
”…We’re getting nowhere like this,” I muttered.
I shifted. I dropped my right greatsword low and raised my left high. It was a predatory stance-like the gaping maw of a wolf waiting to snap shut. Pure aggression.
There were five meters between us. I could close that gap in a heartbeat.
”A word of advice,” I said. “Don’t let it end too quickly.”
I lunged. My left greatsword came crashing down in a vertical overhead strike. It was a blow heavy enough to split a man in two, but Hina parried it with her gladius, redirecting the momentum. But I was dual-wielding; my right greatsword immediately followed up with a horizontal sweep.
Hina barely caught it on her shield, but I was already transitioning. My left sword whipped upward in a rising slash from below.
”Whoa! If I were a novice, that would’ve been the end of me. That sequence… it’s like a Swallow Reversal⁴, but with even more pressure because of the twin blades.”
Hina scrambled back, narrowly avoiding the follow-up. But I wasn’t about to let up.
”Heh! You have time to analyze? I’m just getting started!”
”What-!? Kugh…!”
A whirlwind of steel erupted. A relentless assault that looked like a localized hurricane.
”**Storm Edge Slasher⁵!**”
The same technique that had decimated swarms of Killer Army Ants-the same blades I had once turned against my former self, Chihiro-now rained down on Hina.
”Guh! It really is… like a storm!”
She was forced into a desperate dance-dodging, blocking with her shield, parrying with her sword. It was a testament to her high stats that she could even keep up. A normal person would have been reduced to mincemeat in seconds. And yet, if I were truly serious, this would have been over already.
”Hmm? Is it just me, or is Goshujin-sama holding back?” Honoka asked.
”You’re right,” Reese agreed. “His sword speed was way higher against the ants…”
They were right. I wasn’t going all out. More accurately, I wasn’t fighting with my full power. I was restricting myself to the camouflaged stats I’d registered as Sieben. That was probably why I had that relaxed smirk on his face.
Back when I fought my former self, my face was twisted with nothing but hatred. Now, I didn’t seem to care whether I won or lost. I was just playing. My composure came from the absolute certainty that no one here could actually touch me.
Or so I thought. Hina was already adapting to my rhythm. She was using her footwork to time my swings. And then-
”I see it! There!”
She tangled her blade with my left-hand sword and flicked it upward. A perfect disarm. The greatsword flew from my grip. I lunged with my right-hand blade to compensate, but she was already there, her shield meeting the heavy steel in a perfectly timed parry.
A greatsword carries immense weight. When redirected like that, it pulls the wielder off balance, leaving them wide open. Hina didn’t miss her chance.
She swung her blade in a punishing diagonal slash-
And a spray of crimson painted the air.

Summary:
Sieben enters a mock battle against the ‘Princess Knight’ Yamato Hina using the academy’s advanced VR system. The match begins with high tension and comedic interference from Sieben’s female companions, which enrages the male spectators. Despite Sieben’s overwhelming skill, Hina manages to parry his ‘Storm Edge Slasher’ and lands a counter-hit as the chapter ends.
—
Trivia:
- Sieben’s ‘Unique Skills’ do not work in the VR simulation.
- He is fighting with camouflaged/restricted stats, not his true power.
- Yamato Hina is a student at the academy, making her the crowd favorite.
- The ‘Itchy… tasty…’ line is a Resident Evil easter egg.
- Kagaya and Ise have diametrically opposed views on Sieben’s masculinity.
- The simulation records pain even if players cannot die
—
Character Insight:
Sieben is shown to be overconfident and ‘playing’ with his opponent, a stark contrast to the hatred he felt in previous lives. Hina demonstrates high tactical growth by adapting to his rhythm mid-combat.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The author includes a meta-joke about burnout and a quote from ‘The Father of All Humanity’ at the end, likely referencing Adam from ‘Record of Ragnarok’.
