Chapter 213 Yamato Hina and the Demon King Medinilla ⑱

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

A few stray droplets of blood flecked Hina’s mask.

A low murmur rippled through the spectator stands, quickly swelling into a roar.

 ”Aaaaaagh! My Lady!” Ise screamed.

In my hand was a dagger curved like a predatory talon, its edge slick with crimson. Yamato Hina’s right cheek had been laid open in a jagged gash.

 ”Tch… gh… When did he…?”

Hina scrambled back, desperately trying to reset the distance. Seriously, when did he even move? I held a dagger in each hand, settling into a low, predatory crouch.

”You monster! To slash a lady’s face… what kind of heartless demon are you?!” Ise shrieked, her features contorted in a mask of fury.

”That’s low!” a girl in the stands yelled.

”Aiming for the face? Coward! You’re a coward!”

”He shouldn’t even be attacking her like that in the first place!”

A faction of the female students erupted in protest. A storm of condemnation centered on me began to howl through the arena. However-

”Shut up, you pests!” My voice cut through the noise like a cold blade. “You think chivalry has a place on the battlefield? Don’t give me that ‘don’t hurt her face’ or ‘don’t attack a girl’ crap. Once the steel is drawn, gender is irrelevant. If you’re too soft to handle the pain, then stay off the field! And you sure as hell better stay away from being a Monster Hunter!”

The arena fell into a deathly, suffocating silence. I was right. To a monster, gender provided no shield; if anything, it made women targets for far more gruesome fates. A man might simply be slaughtered, but a woman faced the risk of violation-or worse.

”He’s got a point,” a female student muttered from the front row. “Any Hunter who whines about a scar on their face isn’t cut out for the job. Most of us here are trying to make a living in the wilds. If you’re still crying about a girl’s beauty, do yourself a favor and drop out now.”

”Hmph. This is what happens when a woman throws away her soul to become a butcher,” another student sneered.

”A woman’s face is her life! He scarred her; he should pay for that with his blood!”

”Again-you think the monsters care?” the first girl countered. “People like you, who just sit there yapping, are the ones who get mauled before they can even scream. Actually, looking at you lot, you’ve got the ‘first-to-die’ look written all over your faces.”

”What did you say… you damn she-ape?!”

The atmosphere in the stands reached a boiling point. It looked like a riot was about to break out, but it was the wounded Hina who finally silenced them.

”Enough! Stop this at once!” Hina commanded. “I am absolutely correct. On the battlefield, there is no man or woman. In the face of life and death, gender is a triviality. My face is cut, but my body is otherwise unharmed. More importantly, this happened because I let my guard down. To blame him is the height of hypocrisy.”

The hecklers fell silent. When the victim herself spoke with such conviction, they had no choice but to swallow their words.

”My apologies,” Hina said, turning back to me. “I didn’t mean for the match to be interrupted.”

”Forget it,” I replied. “Honestly, if you’d started with that chivalrous entitlement too, I would’ve just forfeited and walked out. Finding out you aren’t one of them was a decent enough haul for today.”

”I see. So, I haven’t disappointed you yet? Then let us continue. I shall have to be careful not to disappoint you with my bladework, either.”

Hina settled into her stance-the same ironclad, defensive posture as before.

”…I wasn’t worried about that part to begin with,” I muttered.

I crossed my daggers, tightening my grip. Suddenly, the talon-like blades unfolded, expanding into a shape resembling the predatory wings of a bird. I hadn’t used these when we sparred with wooden swords; Hina had no idea I was carrying something like that.

”Those are the Swallow Edges de-gozaru,” Tatei said, his voice brimming with a stiff, formal pride. “They are a masterpiece of my own Materialization Alchemy de-gozaru. It is quite the achievement.”

It looked impressive, but that shape… Hina wondered if it wouldn’t be incredibly awkward to handle.

”By the way… when did he even switch weapons?” Mihiro asked.

”A simple conjuring trick de-gozaru,” Tatei explained. “You draw the eye to one thing, and in that moment of diverted focus, you prepare the next. It is the core technique of misdirection de-gozaru.”

Misdirection. Hina recalled that I always had a fascination with sleight-of-hand when I was a kid. I used to claim I wasn’t nimble enough to pull it off, but with my current level of skill, it was clearly child’s play.

 ”Here I come!”

Both of us surged forward, colliding in the center of the ring in a blur of motion.

 ”Secret Sword: Sixteen-Fold Moon-Glow!”

Hina used her shield to momentarily blind me, following up with a rapid-fire volley of sixteen consecutive stabs. Any normal fighter would have panicked at the sudden loss of vision, but I remained eerily calm. I parried every single thrust with my daggers, my movements precise and economical.

”Impressive! Then try this-Crescent Moon Rise!”

A sweeping diagonal slash followed, again delivered from behind the cover of the shield. But I caught the blade in the “wing” of my dagger, shunting the momentum aside. Hina held the advantage in reach, but she knew letting me open the distance invited a lethal counter-attack. She pressed me, keeping me within her striking range, but the dynamic had flipped. I was no longer just defending; I was flowing with her. Despite the greatsword’s power, my daggers were lighter and significantly faster.

Watching them was like watching a sword dance. The crowd watched in hushed awe at the fluid elegance of their movements. But this wasn’t a show; it was a duel.

 ”Burning Shoot!”

I was sent flying backward. Burning Shoot was a fire-element spell designed specifically for knockback. It functioned like a magical Claymore mine, concentrating all its explosive force in a single, forward-facing cone. The impact was massive; I skidded across the ground, and the force was enough to make me lose my grip on my right-hand dagger.

”Mihiro de-gozaru, are you familiar with the Hunga Munga de-gozaru?” Tatei asked abruptly.

”Hunga… what? What a weird name,” Honoka giggled.

”The Hunga Munga is a multi-bladed African throwing knife de-gozaru. It served as the inspiration for the Swallow Edge de-gozaru. Which is to say… it is a projectile weapon de-gozaru.”

Tatei explained with a smug grin.

A throwing knife? Then it clicked. My love of magic tricks. I hadn’t “lost my grip.” I had thrown it. But I hadn’t thrown it at Hina-if I had, everyone would have seen it.

Mihiro scanned the arena. The thrown dagger was sailing through the air toward a completely empty corner of the field.

”And, much like a boomerang, it returns to the hand de-gozaru,” Tatei added. “Provided, of course, it doesn’t hit something first de-gozaru.”

The dagger, spinning wildly and seemingly wide of any mark, suddenly began to arc back in a massive, sweeping curve.

 ”Gugh?!”

The blade bit deep into Hina’s back with a sickening thud.

 Summary:

During a high-stakes duel, Sieben scars Hina’s face, sparking a heated debate about gender and chivalry in combat. Sieben harshly rebukes the crowd’s double standards, a sentiment Hina eventually supports to resume the fight fairly. The match intensifies as Sieben uses a specialized boomerang-style dagger to bypass Hina’s defenses and strike her from behind.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Sieben specifically used misdirection to switch weapons unnoticed.

 - Hina’s wound was caused by a claw-like dagger early in the chapter.

 - The ‘Burning Shoot’ spell is specialized for knockback rather than just raw damage.

 - The weapon Sieben uses is modeled after a real-world African throwing knife called a Hunga Munga

 —

 Character Insight:

Sieben shows his refusal to treat female opponents differently, viewing it as a lack of respect for the dangers of their world. Hina demonstrates her integrity by rejecting the crowd’s protection, proving her worth as a warrior. Tatei displays his technical pride as an alchemist.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author notes their fatigue in the intro. The inclusion of the ‘Hunga Munga’ suggests an interest in historical or exotic weaponry.

Seriously, shut your mouth, Ise. Like he said, to whine about something as stupid as a strike to the face in a fair fight is pathetic ans hypocritical. I think I’ve got you pegged down. You’re a piece of trash who abuses the societal sentiment that hurting a woman is wrong to run your mouth and act special. You’re filth
