Chapter 229 Yamato Hina and the Demon King Medinilla ㉘
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
After annihilating the massive horde of Goblins-technically High Goblins, but they look the same, so “Goblins” works-we followed Bolgano’s lead to a nearby village. However…
”There are so many of them… There’s no telling what they’ll do. We should kill them all right now,” Yamato Hina said. Her voice was cold, coming completely out of left field. Ise immediately jumped on the bandwagon.
”Yes, let’s do that. The Mazoku¹ have no right to live; they are nothing but a blight on this world,” Ise added.
The nonsense kept coming. Ise was one thing, but Yamato showing such blatant hostility toward the Mazoku was bizarre. Then, it got worse.
”It is as you say de-gozaru. Above all else, the Mazoku are the enemies of humanity de-gozaru. There is no need to let them live de-gozaru,” Tatei agreed.
”Y-yeah, that’s right nanoda. The filth must be purged nanoda!” Yokoo shouted.
At this point, I started to suspect some kind of mental manipulation. After all, Alice-chan was a Majin²-a Mazoku herself. Yet even Alice joined in.
”That’s right, Ko-chan. Let’s just waste them,” she said with a dangerous smile.
”Wait, wait! What’s wrong with everyone?! Yamato-san, Tatei-kun, Yokoo-kun-what are you even saying?! Goshujin-sama, they’re acting crazy!” Honoka cried out.
”Tate and Yoko… they’re like different people. They saved me! They hate discrimination, so why are they saying this?” Reese asked, her voice trembling.
”Ma-kun, stop it. Even if they’re Mazoku, they’re just people. Why would you say something so horrible?” Sango pleaded.
Honoka, Reese, and Sango tried to intervene, but Yamato, Ise, and the others radiated a chilling bloodlust. They looked ready to cut down Honoka and the others if they stood in the way. It was true that some, like Blizzard, were hostile toward humans, but this… I couldn’t understand it.
”What about you, Mashiro? Do you think all Mazoku are the enemy?” I asked.
”Me? I don’t really feel anything about them. Though, if they show me hostility, that’s a different story,” Mashiro replied.
So Mashiro was on our side. Yukiko-san wasn’t human either-she was a True Ancestor-so she viewed humans and Mazoku as the same. But this situation was a mess.
”Mashiro, what do you think is going on?”
”Well… whether someone feels hostility or not. There’s a common thread among those of us who don’t,” Mashiro noted.
”Mihiro, your thoughts?”
”Yeah… I think I’ve reached the same conclusion,” Mihiro said, tapping their chin thoughtfully. They seemed to find the answer quickly.
”Probably. Let’s see if our answers match. On three?”
”Sure. One, two-“
”””Those who are my Kin or are held in Servitude.”””
Mihiro and Mashiro were on the same page. I doubted Honoka or Reese had realized it yet. Yukiko-san definitely hadn’t. Sango was a summoned beast, so she was a bit different, but she was subordinate to me, so it was essentially the same thing.
Most humans harbor intense animosity toward the Mazoku. History explains that much. But what about us who were summoned? Normally, even if they’re Mazoku, they look almost human. It wouldn’t be strange for someone to try talking to them. Yet, my companions were filled with irrational hatred.
I had a pretty good idea why. That shitty Goddess probably performed some mental manipulation when she brought us here. The Mazoku are the enemy. There were a few exceptions, like Alice-chan. She had been materialized and created by Yokoo-kun, yet she wasn’t targeted. It seemed any Mazoku siding with humanity was an exception. Or perhaps as long as they aren’t caught-like Storm, who often asked Leki to play. He looked human, and no one suspected he was a Mazoku.
But if I leave them like this, there’s no telling what they’ll do.
”Tatei, Yokoo, Alice, Yamato, Ise-**’All of you, standby in the car.’**”
I invoked ‘Royal Authority’³ to issue the command. Since entering the Demon King’s territory, I’d been using it quite a bit. It doesn’t work on high-level opponents, but the command is absolute. The five of them turned and walked back to the car. Even so, I was still uneasy.
”Mihiro, stay in the driver’s seat and make sure no one else drives. Reese and Sango, keep an eye on them. The rest of you, come with me.”
”Okay! An outing with Goshujin-sama… though Yukiko-san and Mashiro-san are coming, too,” Honoka said.
”Sieben, let’s go,” Yukiko-san added.
”My, my, I feel like a bit of a third wheel,” Mashiro said with a smirk.
Honoka took my right arm and Yukiko-san took my left, clinging to me as they pulled me along. Mashiro followed behind, amused by the sight. I certainly had my hands full.
”I’m heading out. I’m counting on you,” I called back.
I was practically dragged toward the village by the two of them.
* * *
”Mazoku” is a collective term for Majin, Ogre-kin, and the Undead. Ogre-kin, like Bolgano, are massive, usually over two meters tall, with two cow-like horns growing from their temples. Majin are almost identical to humans, save for slightly pointed ears and pale or bluish skin. You can see it in Alice-chan; her ears are a bit pointed and her skin is fair. Then there are the Undead, who aren’t that different from Majin, though they live much longer and have golden eyes. Most of them serve as governors for large cities. Bolgano mentioned some are quite eccentric. Majin themselves have a lifespan of about 150 years.
This village was home to about a hundred Majin and thirty Ogre-kin. Aside from the inhabitants being Mazoku, it wasn’t much different from a human village, though the cultural level was far below Greedia’s. It felt like a classic, rustic fantasy village.
Unfortunately, human currency was useless here. Since humans and Mazoku were completely segregated, there was no established exchange rate. However, we could still earn money in the Demon King’s territory. They had an organization similar to the Monster Hunters where you could take subjugation or gathering requests. They were called, quite simply, Adventurers. Naturally, there was an Adventurer’s Guild as well.
The guild in this village was small-just a large log cabin-but it had the necessary facilities. I stopped by with a bag full of Goblin ears as proof of our work.
The guild was quiet when we entered. Most of the strong adventurers were likely out on requests. A few Level 10 hunters were scattered about, likely just returning from a hunt. We stood out, mostly because of Bolgano. I left the money exchange to him-apparently, he used to be quite a big shot as an adventurer-while the rest of us went to register.
I approached a receptionist. She was a pale-skinned Majin, quite beautiful, which I suppose makes sense for someone in a public-facing role.
”Welcome to the Adventurer’s Guild. How can I help you today?”
”We’d like to register. Me and the three behind me.”
”Understood. Please fill out these documents.”
She handed us several sheets of parchment. It was a bit difficult to write on. I’d grown used to “Wood-paper,” as they call it in this world.
”Hmm… I’ve never seen these characters before. I’d ask you to teach me, but we’re in a hurry. I’ll have to use a Skill this time,” Mashiro muttered. She usually kept her ‘Language Comprehension’ off, but she reluctantly activated it. There were no tables, so we had to write at the counter.
”Um… the person with you… is that Lord Bolgano?” the receptionist asked.
”Yeah. What about it?”
”Oh! I knew it! Um, if it isn’t too much trouble… do you think you could ask Lord Bolgano for his autograph?!” she asked, pulling out a square signature board. I had no idea where she even got that.
The receptionist was a total fangirl. Bolgano agreed to the request, and her eyes sparkled with joy.
”I’ll treasure this for the rest of my life!” she squealed.

The second half ended up being unrelated to the main plot. Next time will be more of the same… The characters are just moving on their own now. I wonder when the Demon King will finally show up.
”Don’t you dare stop… until you’ve left a rating and a bookmark!”

Summary:
The party reaches a Mazoku village, but several members succumb to a ‘Demon = Evil’ mental curse presumably cast by the Goddess. To prevent internal violence, the protagonist uses ‘Royal Authority’ to bench the aggressive members. The remaining group explores the village and registers at the local Adventurer’s Guild.
—
Trivia:
- Alice is actually a demon (Majin), yet she is currently trying to kill her own kind due to mental manipulation.
- The ‘Royal Authority’ skill is absolute but only works on lower-level targets.
- The protagonist’s ‘Kin’ and those in ‘Servitude’ are immune to the Goddess’s brainwashing.
- The term ‘Mazoku’ is an umbrella term for multiple races including Ogres and Undead.
- Human currency is completely invalid in this region
—
Character Insight:
The protagonist shows leadership by decisively using a ‘cheat’ skill to suppress his own allies for their own good. Mashiro and Mihiro demonstrate high intelligence by deducing the mechanics of the Goddess’s curse without being told.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The author references the famous ‘Sanitize the filth’ meme from Fist of the North Star and the ‘Don’t stop’ meme from Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
