Chapter 60 Invitation from the Elves

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The days of Nyan-chan¹ joining our private time continued. As I moved forward with the plans to borrow the dwarves’ help, the elven princess Sylpha came by for the first time in a while.

”Whew. That took longer than I expected,” I said.

”…I came here to explain why, but seeing all this made it fly right out of my head,” Sylpha replied.

She was likely referring to the fact that the place now looked like a proper city.

 ”What is this… ? ” she muttered.

”Pretty great, right! I’m using my skills to recreate the hometown. We’ve still got a long way to go, though,” I said.

”Eeeh… I finally managed to persuade them to a certain point, but now I might have to start over from scratch… ” Sylpha said, her eyes trailing off into the distance.

”Ah… sorry about that,” I said.

”No. It’s only natural for Ibuki-sama² to arrange his own town. But this went way beyond my imagination,” Sylpha said, straightening her posture. “Listen, if it’s alright, I’d like you to attend a party at the castle. It’s not about making a move on our relationship right this second, but I’d like to start by getting to know each other.”

She looked up at me with a hesitant, downward glance.

”I don’t mind. How many of us should attend? ” I asked.

”Um, five people or fewer would be best… is that okay? ” Sylpha asked.

”Then, how about me, Yui, and Isaac? ” I suggested.

”Y-yeah. But, are you sure? ” Sylpha asked. She seemed anxious, likely because the consensus on her side wasn’t fully unified yet.

I turned to Isaac and Yui. “Is that a problem for you two? “

”Honestly, I don’t know the first thing about the situation over there, so I can’t really say… ” Yui replied. She was fine with going but couldn’t make a judgment on the politics.

”I find it hard to believe that dragonewts, who love to flaunt their power, would stoop to using poisons. With Ibuki-sama’s strength, I don’t see any particular issue,” Isaac said.

It seemed settled, but then Shirley spoke up. “If possible, I would like to go as an escort as well.”

”Hmm, that’s fine, but wouldn’t that leave things a bit thin on this side? ” I asked.

With just Charlotte, Lisha, Saria, and Keira left to protect the entire area, I felt a bit uneasy. I didn’t think anything would happen, but I didn’t want to leave us vulnerable.

”If Shirley, Lisha, and Charlotte stay here with Saria and the others as support, we shouldn’t have a problem even if we’re attacked from four sides, but… ” I mused.

It was true. My wives were strong enough to scatter an entire army on their own. But if they were spread too thin and a worst-case scenario occurred, people might get hurt. If it were just about winning a fight, any one of them could handle it, but at this stage, the possibility of the dragonewts teaming up with the fox-kin for an attack wasn’t zero.

”It should be fine. The dragonewts are few in number; even if they mobilized, they could likely only field about forty soldiers. As for the other races, even if they’re being threatened into submission, they won’t take the lead in an attack. As long as Saria and Keira keep watch from the sky, we have nothing to fear,” Isaac said.

”Oh, then it’ll be a breeze,” I replied.

Sylpha looked on, bewildered by Isaac’s confidence. “They’re dragonewts. Are you really okay against forty of them… ? ” she asked.

”Indeed. I have been shown Ibuki-sama’s power, but Shirley-sama alone is capable of facing an entire army. Ibuki-sama is trying to eliminate even the slightest possibility of damage to us,” Isaac said.

Leaving the confused Sylpha aside, I turned back to the topic. “By the way, aren’t you going to invite the Hero? “

”Since you’re technically in the same faction, I figured it was enough as long as Ibuki-sama was there… ” Sylpha said.

”No, we’re allies, but our factions are separate. Right now, Senpai is staying in the cat-kin village,” I explained.

”Eh… ah, so he went to that girl’s place… Well, we’ll need to talk eventually, but I’ll leave that to you,” Sylpha said. She seemed to understand, having seen the relationship between the Hero Senpai and Kuria during the dragonewt trouble.

”Then I’ll give him a shout just in case. Is it okay if we bring six people? ” I asked.

”Hmm, they seemed nervous even with three. I think it’s better if it’s just Ibuki-sama’s group this time,” Sylpha said.

”Understood,” I agreed. We set the party for three days later.

”Are you okay for clothes? If you’re anxious, I’ll prepare one,” I offered.

”Um, would something like this be too much? ” Sylpha asked. I showed her a dress I had made, currently displayed on a mannequin.

”It’s beautiful… almost too good. It might actually make me stand out too much. But it’s fine… ” Sylpha said with a conflicted smile.

”Then it’s a gift. Why don’t you wear this to the party, Sylpha? ” I suggested. If the princess was wearing it, no one would think it was out of place.

”You’re… giving this to me? ” she asked.

”Yeah. I think it’ll look great on you,” I said. It was a tight silk dress designed with the image of a blue fairy in mind. I figured it would look good on any of the slender, elegant elven girls.

When I suggested it, she became restless with excitement. “Can I try it on? ” she asked.

She went to a separate room with her elven attendants to change.

”Yeah, it definitely suits you,” I muttered when she came out. The other girls raved about it too.

After that, Shirley changed into a dress I’d given her previously to do a quick check, and Yui gave me a lonely look. She didn’t have to say it—’what about me?’—was written all over her face.

Of course I’d prepare one for her. I made a dress that leaned into her cuteness, something that looked like an idol’s outfit. I was worried it might look too childish, but it fit her perfectly. She was so happy she practically tackled me.

”Isaac, are you okay? ” I asked.

”Yes. I have my own formal wear prepared,” Isaac replied.

”Then that just leaves mine. Give me some advice later, okay? ” I said. Since I didn’t know the local standards for men’s formal wear, I made a deal to consult with him, and we wrapped things up for the day.

* * *

I was free until the day of the party, so I decided to check in on Hero Senpai. He’d clearly grown close to Kuria and was fully immersed in life at the cat-kin village. Apparently, he’d been going out on hunts and bringing back massive game, making him the talk of the town.

”You’re doing great, Senpai. Now that’s a real Hero move,” I said.

”No, well… I’m glad I can help out like this, but I’m not doing it for the attention, okay? ” Senpai replied. He was as humble as ever, still struggling with being in the spotlight.

”That’s fine. Anyway, my place is starting to look a lot like Japan. Come visit when you feel like it. I want to talk to you about some improvements,” I said.

”Wait… like Japan? In what way? ” Senpai asked, stunned.

”Pretty much the whole look of it,” Yui replied.

Senpai shook his head in disbelief, but when he saw Yui’s wry smile, his eyes went wide. “Wait, for real!?”

He seemed incredibly interested, but I just told him to come see for himself. I shared the news about the elven party invitation. He looked relieved that he wasn’t expected to go this time, so I made sure to warn him that he’d definitely be called once things were settled.

Next, I went with Nyan-chan to the dwarf village to ask for help setting up manufacturing facilities. They agreed readily. I set up a field and a river for them, and they established a production team immediately. I managed to recruit dozens of dwarves that very day.

Finally, the day of the party arrived.

Our group consisted of me, Yui, Isaac, and Shirley. Sylpha and several elven guards, including Mari-chan, accompanied us. Going in our usual car would have stood out too much, so I built a horse-less carriage—a tall, carriage-like vehicle that the elven guards escorted on horseback.

Inside the spacious carriage, Sylpha was acting fidgety.

”Ibuki-sama… if people see you looking like that, they’re going to jump you,” Sylpha suddenly blurted out.

”Eh? Are you saying I’m being rude or something? ” I asked.

”No, that’s not it… right? ” she asked, looking for backup. But aside from her, everyone else was part of my group.

”She has a point… ” Shirley added with an anxious look.

”Wait, is there something wrong with me? ” I asked, surprised.

”They’ll likely try to claim you by force. Though, for someone of Ibuki-sama’s caliber, you could easily brush them off,” Isaac muttered.

Ah… so they were worried about me being assaulted.

”I’m worried because Ibuki-kun³ seems like the type to just let it happen. I mean, if it’s just for one night, I guess it’s whatever, but… ” Yui said.

”Wait, why are we assuming I’m going to be attacked? That never happens in our town,” I said.

”Well, look at what you’re wearing,” Yui said, pointing.

It was the formal wear I’d worked so hard on with Isaac’s advice. I figured a King should look dignified, so I’d gone with a white royal outfit like something out of an anime, complete with a cloak held by a belt. It was a flashy, pure white ensemble with intricate gold embroidery. It looked incredibly expensive—the kind of thing that would make even a friend hesitate to approach you on the street.

”I mean, I put some effort into it, sure… but do girls really like this kind of look? ” I asked.

Yui and Shirley both gave a small, solemn nod.

”Alright. Then I guess when we get home, everyone’s wearing formal clothes,” I said with a grin.

”Is that a promise! ? ” Shirley asked, biting onto the idea with unusual intensity.

That was fine by me. Seeing everyone dressed up in their best gowns was a treat for my eyes too.

”Muu… I’d hate for someone to get their hands on Ibuki-kun while he’s dressed like this before me,” Yui said.

”I agree. I’d appreciate it if you prioritized us, as a wife’s privilege,” Shirley added.

”Hey, I’m not going there for that! ” I said with a wry smile.

As we kept up our back-and-forth, we arrived at the town.

”… So this is the elven town,” Yui said, her voice dropping.

The scenery inside was nothing to laugh at. It made sense; if people’s livelihoods were failing, the town itself couldn’t be wealthy. In the outer districts we’d just entered, girls who looked like young children were begging for scraps. It was a grim sight to be greeted with right after entering.

 ”Ibuki-kun… ” Yui whispered sadly.

”I know. But we can’t do anything right now. Helping halfway is the worst thing we could do. You understand what happens if we violate the elves’ sovereignty, right? ” I asked.

”Does it… lead to war? ” Yui asked, looking at Sylpha.

”It depends on what you do. But even if it’s just the slums, if a situation is created where you can command the loyalty of the masses at any time, many people won’t be able to stay silent… ” Sylpha said.

”Exactly. Even in my position, I wouldn’t allow a friendly country to operate without permission. Doing that creates a situation where they could take over. That’s why the elves sent soldiers to us when we started handing out food. From that perspective, Sylpha’s sister was being quite rational,” I said.

Yui looked down, crestfallen. It was a painful sight. The dwarf village was far wealthier by comparison. There were so many children among the beggars, and strangely, they were all female.

”It’ll be okay. If things don’t get settled this time, we’ll just force a ton of food onto Sylpha. You can at least run a soup kitchen, right? ” I asked.

”I can, but… are you sure? ” Sylpha asked with a worried look.

”If it’ll keep my wife from frowning, I’ll give you as much as you need,” I replied with a smile.

”… I want to be your wife, too,” Sylpha said, leaning her head on my shoulder.

”That depends on your own hard work, Sylpha. I can’t just keep adding ‘special’ people like my wives recklessly,” I said, patting her head.

 ”Muu… ” she made a pained face.

I didn’t like making her sad, but I couldn’t just accept everyone who asked. I had to keep the bar high.

”Sorry, but my wives come first. Though, if they’re happy to accept someone, I don’t intend to refuse,” I said.

Hearing that, Yui squeezed in next to me and clung to my arm happily. Shirley also gave a relieved smile.

Eventually, we passed through the inner gates into the noble district. Suddenly, the cityscape changed completely. It looked like a beautiful, old-fashioned European town with stone buildings. It was a stunning sight, but…

”Seeing this after what we just passed… ” I started.

”Don’t say it. I know… ” Sylpha said, her face clouding over.

”No… sorry. I didn’t mean to blame you. I know the only reason it’s that bad out there is because of the food shortage,” I said.

”You don’t have to be kind. We have other resources, so that’s no excuse… ” Sylpha said, looking down.

”No, it is. If the food was plenty and people were working and there were no riots, but you still ignored them, then I’d think you were pathetic. But in this situation, it’s just plain hard. Even with my knowledge from another world, I’d be struggling if I didn’t have my skills,” I said.

With enough power, you could probably fix it, but it would take a massive amount of time. The location itself was just that bad for food. To even start getting enough, you’d need to train an army first.

”I get that you feel responsible, but you have to look at the facts clearly. Otherwise, you won’t get results,” I said, giving her a comforting pat.

She seemed to settle down a bit. “Fine, then! I’m going to face reality and rely on you! ” she said, hugging me.

”Eh… that’s fine, but in what way are you relying on me? ” I asked with a laugh.

”Can’t I do both? ” she asked, blushing as she looked up at me. “I’m not letting go… I can’t let go anymore! Please… just let me stay by your side… “

Sylpha clung to me, her voice full of entreaty. She was usually so cheerful, but she wasn’t joking this time. She was dead serious.

Wow, the elves don’t hold back…

She was as beautiful as everyone said. The mix of s*x appeal and loveliness was incredible. If my wives didn’t keep me satisfied every day, I probably would have caved instantly. Not that it would be a problem if I did, since she’d likely get along with them fine.

”… I want to show Meena this. Now that is how you act spoiled,” Yui whispered to Shirley.

”Anyway, it looks like we’re here,” I said.

Sylpha jumped, suddenly realizing where we were, and straightened herself up.

 Summary:

Ibuki and his core companions travel to the Elven capital for a diplomatic party. Upon arrival, they witness the extreme poverty and hunger in the elven slums, contrasting sharply with the noble district. Sylpha, overwhelmed by her nation’s failure, pledges her loyalty and affection to Ibuki in a desperate emotional plea.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Ibuki is recreating his Japanese hometown using his skills.

 - The Elven slums consist almost entirely of women begging for food.

 - Ibuki’s new formal outfit is white and gold, resembling anime-style regalia.

 - The Hero Senpai is staying with the Cat-kin and has become a celebrated hunter.

 - Dwarves have been successfully recruited to start a manufacturing division in Ibuki’s town

 —

 Character Insight:

Ibuki demonstrates a pragmatic and cold geopolitical perspective regarding ‘sovereignty,’ refusing to provide aid that would cause political conflict despite the suffering he sees. Sylpha transitions from a diplomatic liaison to a woman desperately seeking personal and national salvation through Ibuki.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The chapter highlights the classic isekai ‘cultural gap’ through Ibuki’s modern clothing being perceived as incredibly high-status and seductive to fantasy denizens.
