Volume 2 Chapter 10 Teleportation Trap

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I got back to the grind the day after New Year’s. Reaching the eleventh floor bumped me up to C-Rank, and now that I’m officially an “intermediate” adventurer, I can feel the people around me finally starting to show some respect. Still, Dietlinde-san is as cold as ever-not a single spark of romance on the horizon. I wonder if the other guys are having any better luck? I’ll have to grill them about it later.

Until now, my gear was mostly steel, but as my rank climbs, I want to upgrade to higher-grade materials. I’d been borrowing equipment from the Knights, but from here on out, I need to provide my own.

The next step up is Magic Iron¹-iron that’s been saturated with mana. It’s a somewhat rare find, harvested from iron veins in high-mana zones. Up through steel, it was all about pure physical stats, but materials from here on out have magical properties. Well, thinking of it as “extra-hard iron” isn’t exactly wrong, either.

Magic Iron looks just like the regular stuff, but it gives off a faint glow when you channel mana into it. Because it has such a high affinity for magic, it’s perfect for skills like Magic Coating, which wraps a blade in spells, or Mana Shroud², which coats the user in raw energy. Mana Shroud is an essential skill for front-liners once you hit B-Rank.

With materials like Magic Iron, you can start adding enchantments. For swords, Slashing Mastery or Strength Up are the meta. For armor, you can even generate barrier magic. Apparently, a set of bikini armor with the right enchantments actually has higher defense than a full set of non-magical steel plate. It’s too cold for that right now, but once summer rolls around, I’m looking forward to seeing the older sisters rocking the bikini armor look again. (Definitely something to look forward to…)

I cut my exploration a bit short today to head over to the workshop of the dwarf blacksmith, Ralph-san. He’s the one Makoto is supposed to apprentice under. Makoto tried to swing by on his day off to do some grunt work for experience, but Ralph-san kicked him out, telling him, “Take a damn day off when it’s your day off!” I always pictured master craftsmen as the “no sleep for the newbie” types, but I guess Ralph-san is different. Maybe some Hero came through and did a workplace reform at some point.

 ”Hello!” I called out.

”Welcome! Oh, are you a friend of Makoto-san?”

A little girl greeted me when I walked into the storefront. Maybe she’s the shopkeeper? She was adorable, maybe about four feet tall.

”Milliam-san, hello desu-zo. Is the boss in?” asked Makoto.

 ”Yes! Just a moment, please!”

Makoto told me that Milliam-san, who went running into the back, is actually Ralph-san’s daughter. She looks like a kid, but she’s technically a legal loli-a full-grown adult. I guess dwarf women are just built that way in this world. Come to think of it, Makoto is a total lolicon who likes girls like Sylvie-san… I wonder if Milliam-san is in his strike zone?

 ”Is Milliam-san your type, Makoto?”

”Of course desu-zo. Cuteness is justice na.”

He got rejected for the apprenticeship work, but Ralph-san let him watch, so they got to know each other over a few visits. He’s used to her now, but apparently, he got way too excited the first time and caught a corrective fist from Ralph-san.

Makoto figures if he works there for a few years, he’ll prove his worth, and that’s when he’ll ask her out. It sounds like a long game, but since parents’ opinions carry so much weight here, it might actually be the fastest route. (Well, good luck to him.)

”Long time no see, Ralph-san,” I said.

”Oh, it’s you lot. I’ve heard the deal from Makoto.”

Makoto had already briefed Ralph-san on the weapon types and my budget. I came by today to swing my current weapons in the backyard so Ralph-san could watch my form and adjust the center of gravity on the new gear. Armor usually has an auto-adjust feature, so I didn’t need to worry about that as much. I can eventually master any weapon if I put the time in, but there’s no reason to change my style now. I stuck with a one-handed sword and a buckler.

Once we finished up, we headed out. The library and the temple are on the way back to the inn, and there’s an orphanage right behind the temple. In this world, where life is cheap, adventurers’ kids end up as orphans all the time. Monster hunting is a lethal business; one wrong move and you’re dead. Sometimes I see Mizuki at the temple on my days off. It’s not the same god he followed back home, but maybe he finds something familiar in it.

A few days later, I headed into the dungeon with my shiny new gear. Floor eleven starts today. This floor is crawling with Orcs and Lizards, so it’s hard to stick to a single strategy. You could try to avoid the ones you’re weak against, but that’s a huge waste of time. We can’t let our guard down, but neither of them is so strong that we need to run away.

Orcs carry clubs and spears and have high Strength and Vitality. The club-wielders are more dangerous because of the Impact attribute on their swings. They occasionally use Earth Magic, but their Intelligence is trash, so the damage is negligible.

Still, they’re the first magic-using monsters we’ve seen, so I’m staying alert. Since our party is all guys, we’re safe, but apparently, Orcs get real “simple-minded” when they see a woman. It makes them easier to kill, but the penalty for losing to them is so horrific that female adventurers absolutely despise them.

Lizards have lower Strength than Orcs, but their high Intelligence makes their Water Magic a real threat. Plus, their bite can paralyze you, so you need resistance. Their scales are tough, giving them high Vitality, which makes them a chore to put down. Basically, they look like giant, bipedal lizards.

I spent a few fights getting the feel for the new gear, and it’s solid. Ralph-san knows his stuff; the balance is perfect, and it’s way easier to handle than my old gear. When I use Mana Shroud, I can slice right through those tough Lizard scales. Orcs aren’t even a challenge. The magic I was worried about turned out to be weak-maybe Skill Level 4 at best. It might suck if your MND is low, but I was fine.

From what I’ve heard, this is where the traps start getting nasty. My Trap Detection pings constantly, and Danger Sense gives me a steady buzz of “watch your step.” (Not that I’m planning on stepping on any…) On the bright side, the loot is supposedly much better, so this is a popular floor for grinding.

In this world, stats go up with levels and skills get better with use, so older adventurers are generally stronger. Most people can hit C-Rank if they survive a few years. That said, stat growth and skill affinity are tied to your Class, so not everyone can make it to B or A-Rank. Unlike my old world, everything is quantified here, but the talent gap is still very real.

Even though there are plenty of adventurers on this floor, you don’t run into them often. The place is massive, and the chests spawn randomly. Fluctuations-where the actual map changes-are rare, but the traps and chests move all the time. There might be a “shortest path,” but there’s no “safe path.” Still, some spots are notorious for traps, so maps are still worth having.

Deeper in, we found a small room. It looked like the kind of place that might have a chest, or at least be a good spot for a breather. My Intuition³ skill was screaming at me to go in. It was an unusually strong urge, which felt suspicious, but I figured I’d find out soon enough.

”Let’s take a break in that room. Takuya, you’re on watch?”

 ”Understood-degozaru,” Takuya replied.

The room was about the size of a classroom. From the doorway, I couldn’t tell, but in the back, there was an empty chest and three magic circles. Forget the chest-why the hell were there magic circles here?

”What do you think these are?” asked Kenta-kun.

”They look like teleportation pads,” I said.

 ”You’re right.”

There are teleportation pads near the stairs that take you back to the entrance. When I used Mental Memory, I realized these were slightly different, but the core was the same. That means… a teleportation trap!? The room was the bait. The chest lures you in, and the moment you touch it-zap. Since there are three circles, the party probably gets split up. That’s one of the most lethal traps in existence. If they’re alone, they’re dead meat. But maybe I can still make it.

”This is a teleportation trap,” I explained.

 ”What!?” shouted Kenta-kun.

”And it probably split up the party that was here before us.”

 ”That’s bad ssu…” Kenta-kun muttered.

My Intuition was ringing like a fire alarm now. (Go save them. Go now or you’ll regret it.) It was the loudest warning I’ve ever had.

”I’m going in. You guys stay here. One of them might find their way back. If I’m not back in an hour, get out of the dungeon.”

 ”Wait, that’s suicide!” Kenta-kun cried.

”I’ll be fine. I’m not dying here. Besides, I’ve got a trump card I haven’t shown you guys yet.”

”…Fine. But watch your back,” Kenta-kun said.

Ideally, we’d all go, but if things are truly dire, we’d just all wipe. Plus, I didn’t want to show off my real power in front of them. Kenta-kun and the others seemed to realize I was holding back, so they eventually backed down. My Intuition said the circle on the right was the most dangerous. No time to waste.

 ”I’m off!”

 ”Good luck!”

”We’ll hold the fort-degozaru,” Takuya said.

The moment I stepped on the circle, the world flickered. Teleportation, definitely.

A high-pitched porcine screech echoed through the chamber.

”No… not like this…! Someone, please help me!”

I heard an Orc’s grunt and a woman’s scream. Thank god, she’s still alive. A pack of about twenty Orcs had their backs to me. One was already pinning the woman down while the others circled around. There were four dead Orcs on the ground-she’d put up a hell of a fight. No time for a head-count. Time to move.

 ”Fire Pillar x5!” I roared.

The Orcs screeched in confusion and pain.

”Did… did someone come!?” the woman cried out.

I fired off a pillar of fire using Parallel Casting, a technique I’d mastered back on the tenth floor. It was one of my trump cards, something I’d never revealed in a party fight. I wasn’t actually chanting, of course; that was just the name of the Skill.

If I’d picked this up a bit sooner, I might have ended this in one go. Fire Pillar was the evolved form of Javelin, unlocked at Skill Level 7. There was a certain raw power in watching a massive column of flame roar toward an enemy-another secret I kept from my teammates.

I’d dropped five Orcs in the initial ambush, but the remaining fifteen turned to face me, snapping into combat stances. From where she was huddled, the woman couldn’t see me, so she probably had no idea what was happening. Her voice sounded familiar, though. I’d know for sure once I got her out of there.

”Bring it on, you pig! ‘Air Hammer’!”

 ”Squeee!?”

 ”GROOOOAR!”

The Air Hammer blast scattered the Orcs near the woman, giving me the opening to use Ground Shrink and dive into the thick of the pack. I’d only learned the skill three days ago. Unlike Instant Move, this was silent-so fast it practically looked like teleportation. Another trump card. My skill level was still low, so the range was short, but it was more than enough for these Orcs. I lopped the heads off the five closest monsters and pulled the woman to safety.

”Thank you… wait, isn’t that Daisuke!?”

 ”Is that Juliet?”

Not exactly the reunion I’d imagined for a dungeon. Her gear was shredded, and she was desperately trying to cover her chest with her hands. Maybe because I was the one who rescued her, she just glared at me, her face turning a deep crimson. It’s a bit depressing to be looked at like a creep after saving someone’s life, but she’s always had a hang-up about anything s*xual.

I decided to be the bigger person and let it slide. Besides, it was quite a view. The way her skin peeked through the tatters of her clothes looked like one of those ‘Mizutama Collage’ censor jobs-it was actually pretty hot. (I know this isn’t the time, but maybe it’s just a side effect of the ‘Onanist’ job characteristics. Put a beautiful woman in front of me and I can’t help but notice. It’s basically an act of God.)

 *That’s incorrect.

 ”Wear this.”

 ”Ah…”

As expected, it would be bad to leave her naked, so I took a cloak out of my Item Box and handed it to Juliet. We were still in a combat zone; no time for small talk. Juliet was safe for now, but I still had to get to Ines-san and Sylvie-san. I couldn’t go full throttle with Juliet watching, but I needed to wrap this up fast.

I pushed Juliet behind me and hammered the remaining ten Orcs with magic, while simultaneously cutting down anyone left standing. It wasn’t even a contest. The whole thing was over in a minute. Total count: twenty-one Orcs here, twenty-five if you counted Juliet’s kills. For a solo diver at this level, those are lethal numbers. As the last Orc fell, a magic circle shimmered into existence-the exit back to the safe room.

”You have met the required experience points. You have acquired the “Provoke” skill.”

Nice. A natural skill gain for once. I don’t usually play the tank, so I guess I never had a reason to taunt anything before.

 ”…Thank you for saving me.”

”No need for thanks. Ines-san and Sylvie-san are still in there.”

”I understand. My equipment got destroyed, so I can’t go help. I’d like you to save Ines and the others too, but…”

 ”Leave it to me.”

 ”…Please.”

She was being unusually quiet-probably because of how close she’d come to the end. I gave her a firm nod to settle her nerves. I escorted her back through the magic circle, handed her off to the Leemans members in the safe room, and dove into the next portal. I let my Intuition Skill pick the path.

”Hah, hah… Damn, is this it…?”

 ”Close.”

My true feelings slipped out, but Ines-san was still safe. She was in better shape than Juliet, standing tall with her sword ready. Ten Orcs were already dead at her feet, but her MP and stamina were clearly bottoming out. Fifteen left. She’d outkilled Juliet, but the compatibility was better. Still, she was in deep.

”‘Ice Javelin’! Ines-san, I’m here to help!”

 ”That voice is Daisuke!?”

It felt good to be recognized, but I didn’t have time to chat. Sylvie-san was still missing. I cleaned up the remaining Orcs with more efficiency than flair, trying to conserve MP.

 ”Sorry, I’m saved.”

”No. I rescued Juliet, but Sylvie-san is still missing, so let’s hurry back.”

 ”Understood.”

I dropped Ines-san back at the safe room. She was too exhausted to keep going, and I couldn’t pull my own party members off guard duty-we didn’t know if more monsters would spawn in the hub. Besides, I could handle a few Orcs.

”Sorry, but please take care of Sylvie.”

”Leave it to me. Orcs are easy.”

”Looking at your previous fight, Daisuke could probably handle them easily. But still, be careful.”

 ”Thank you.”

Having a woman like Ines-san cheer me on was better than a stamina potion. I felt like I could take on the whole dungeon.

”Spirit-san, please! Damn, my MP is running out…!”

 ”BHHUUUU”

A pack of Orcs was closing in on Sylvie-san, their ugly faces twisted into disgusting grins. It looked like a scene straight out of a crime report. Policeman, there are s*x offenders right here! Sylvie-san was high-level; she’d already managed to take down twenty of them. She must have been using her spirit magic to kite them, but Elves are fragile once their MP runs dry. Her physical attacks were doing nothing.

”‘Ice Javelin’! I’m here to help!”

 ”Daisuke-san!”

 ”Bhi!!?? Boohh!!”

The Orcs were furious that I’d interrupted their ‘prize’, but I didn’t give a damn. If they wanted Elf-on-Orc action, they could find a different story. The fight was over in seconds. If Sylvie-san had been just a few levels higher, she might have cleared it solo, but then she probably would have gotten herself killed trying to save the other two.

I still had plenty of MP left, unlike her. That was thanks to the ‘MP Recovery Speed Increase’ skill I’d dumped points into early on. It’s the ultimate skill for endurance.

”Phew, I’m saved. I got separated from Ines-san and Juliet-san…”

”I’m glad I made it in time. I’ve already rescued Ines-san and Juliet-san. Let’s head back.”

 ”Oh, thank goodness. Thank you.”

Back in the safe room, the three of them were busy hugging and crying over being alive. Watching beautiful women and girls embrace… yeah, that’s the kind of soul-healing nutrition I live for.

”…You look like you’re thinking something weird, but I’ll let it slide this time.”

”Hey Juliet, that’s no way to talk to your rescuer.”

 ”No, it’s fine. I know Juliet’s personality.”

 ”Hmph.”

”Sigh. But thank you, Daisuke. That was a close call.”

 ”Me too. Thank you, Daisuke-san.”

”No, it was just luck. You three are heading back to town today, right? I’ll walk you back.”

We called it a day and headed back to town. We agreed to settle the reward later. They were my teachers and friends, so I was fine with doing it for free, but Ines-san wouldn’t hear of it. Even Juliet insisted on paying. The rest of the Leemans party wouldn’t take a cut since they didn’t participate, planning to make up the lost time tomorrow.

The going rate for a rescue like that is usually ten gold coins a head. I bet I could have asked Ines-san or Sylvie-san for a ‘lewd request’, but taking advantage of their weakness to force them isn’t my style.

Hmm, let’s keep it on hold!

 —

 Summary:

The protagonist reaches the 11th floor and achieves C-Rank, prompting an equipment upgrade to ‘Magic Iron.’ While visiting Ralph-san’s workshop, the party interacts with the blacksmith’s daughter, Milliam-san. Upon returning to the dungeon, they encounter a deadly teleportation trap that separates an unknown party, leading the protagonist to mount a solo rescue mission against a pack of Orcs.

Daisuke encounters the Leemans party in distress within the dungeon and systematically rescues Juliet, Ines, and Sylvie from Orc mobs. Despite his perverse ‘Onanist’ job class and internal commentary, he behaves gallantly, refusing to extort them for lewd favors. The group safely returns to town to discuss rewards later.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Magic Iron glows faintly when mana is channeled into it.

 - Bikini armor is canonically higher defense than steel plate if enchanted.

 - Orcs and Goblins share a ‘simple-minded’ biological reaction to human women.

 - Dwarf women in this world are ‘legal lolis’ who stop growing at a young height.

 - The protagonist’s ‘Intuition’ skill has a strong precognitive/moral component.

 - Daisuke is hiding his ‘trump card’ skills from his regular party members.

 - Parallel Casting allows skill activation without vocal chanting.

 - Ground Shrink is a silent, near-instantaneous movement skill, distinct from ‘Instant Move’.

 - The ‘Onanist’ class has specific job characteristics that influence Daisuke’s perceptions of women.

 - Sylvie is higher level than Daisuke but lacks MP recovery passives

 —

 Character Insight:

The protagonist shows a willingness to reveal his ‘trump cards’ and risk his life for strangers, spurred by a sense of guilt/responsibility from his ‘Intuition’ skill. Makoto’s patient approach to romance via winning over the father-in-law contrasts with his perverted reputation.

Daisuke shows a mix of self-awareness regarding his perverse class traits and a genuine code of honor. Juliet shows vulnerability despite her aggressive front. Ines recognizes Daisuke’s rapid growth.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The chapter highlights the classic ‘Isekai’ trope of RPG-style gear scaling (Iron -> Steel -> Magic Iron).

The ‘Mizutama Collage’ reference highlights the web novel’s origins in Japanese imageboard culture (2channel/Nanami style editing).

 —

 TL Notes:

1 Maitetsu (魔鉄): Magic Iron. A rare ore infused with mana, essential for mid-tier gear.

2 Maten (魔纏): Mana Shroud. A skill that coats the body or weapon in magical energy, vital for B-Rank adventurers.

3 Chokkan (直感): Intuition. A passive skill that provides instinctual warnings or guidance to the user.

4 Parallel Casting (並列詠唱): A high-level technique allowing the user to cast spells or skills simultaneously or without chanting.

5 Ground Shrink (縮地/Shukuchi): A classic martial arts trope involving ‘shrinking’ the distance between the user and the target instantly.

6 Mizutama Collage (水玉コラ): A Japanese internet meme where polka dots are placed over clothes to trick the brain into perceiving nudity.

7 MP Recovery Speed Increase: A passive skill crucial for solo endurance in prolonged dungeon crawling.
