Chapter 269 Goddess Aurelia ⑰
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The Legion Commander’s face contorted in a mask of pure terror as he surveyed the literal hellscape unfolding before him. “Wh-what is this… what am I even looking at?” he stammered, his voice breaking. “How can something this horrific be allowed to exist? Was it a mistake to fight? Did we bring this upon ourselves!?”
No one could blame the soldiers for breaking ranks and scattering in a blind panic. It was impossible to expect anything else after witnessing such a nightmare. The front lines had utterly disintegrated in less than half an hour, all at the hands of a single woman.
(Time skipped back just a moment…)
East of the city of Verity, on the highway leading toward Envyos, the merchant traffic had long since vanished. Now, the armies of Greedia and Envyos stood in a tense standoff, separated by a distance that neither bow nor sorcery¹ could bridge. Then, a lone woman began to walk toward the Envyos line. It was the former Chancellor Carmilla.
”Let’s see… I think I recognize a few of these faces,” Carmilla mused, her tone casual.
”The traitorous witch?” a Knight scoffed, looking down on her from his mount. “What business do you have here alone? Don’t tell me you’ve come to surrender?”
”Actually, it’s quite the opposite,” Carmilla replied. “I came to suggest that you surrender… but I take it that’s off the table?”
Suddenly, a soldier charged forward, his face twisted with a personal vendetta. “Uwaaaaah! Because of you, I lost everything! I… I…! Die! Die, die, DIE!” He ignored the Knight’s orders, hacking at Carmilla until her head was severed. He hoisted it high by the hair, laughing like a madman. “Serves you right!² You had me dismissed, and now look at you! Hahahaha!”
”Kufufu. Well then, shall we begin the lecture?” The voice came from the severed head. “Our topic for today: Forbidden Arts³.”
The soldier shrieked, dropping the head in a blind panic. The Knight sat frozen, his eyes wide behind his visor.
”Ouch. Seriously? Tossing a girl’s head like a discarded toy? That’s cold,” the headless corpse said as it stood up and calmly retrieved its head. “And look at this mess. It’s been a while since I’ve died, so this is going to take a moment to fix. These were my favorite clothes, too.”
Carmilla held her head in both hands, facing the petrified Knight. “Why are forbidden arts ‘forbidden’? Because they consume the caster, too. The range is so absurdly wide and the power so ridiculous that if you use it… well, you can do the math, can’t you?”
”I suppose it’s already too late,” she whispered.
’Nuk-Ria Blast’⁴
A flash of light erupted, followed by a roar of ultra-high heat and a shockwave that turned the air to fire. Those near Carmilla were the lucky ones; they vaporized in an instant. Those further away felt their armor turn into iron ovens, roasting them alive while their skin sloughed off in ribbons.
(It looks just like the records of the mushroom clouds back on Earth…) I thought, watching from a distance as the blast leveled everything within a 200-meter radius. The Mana in the area vanished instantly, ensuring the land would remain a barren tomb for years.
In the center of the devastation, Carmilla stood alone-stark naked and perfectly intact. “I knew it,” she sighed, looking at the charred remains of the world around her. “But I really just can’t die, can I?”
* * *
”Captain Carlos, what are your orders?” I asked, looking toward the man nominally in charge of our unit.
”A-Ah, right…” Carlos said, his hands trembling as he put down his telescope. “Issue a demand for surrender. Get the medical units out there. Even if they are the enemy… that sight is too pitiful for words.”
The battle with Envyos ended that day, though it was hardly a battle at all.

Summary:
Carmilla confronts the Envyos army alone and is seemingly killed by a vengeful former official. She reveals her immortality by reattaching her severed head before unleashing a devastating forbidden art, ‘Nuk-Ria Blast.’ The sheer horror of the magical explosion, reminiscent of a nuclear blast, forces an immediate end to the conflict.
—
Trivia:
- Carmilla was the one who dismissed the soldier who ‘killed’ her, showing her past political influence.
- Forbidden arts are forbidden primarily because they usually kill the caster; Carmilla only uses them because she is immortal.
- The blast range is 200 meters, but the environmental damage (mana depletion) lasts for years.
- Bolgano is Amanda’s father and was recently physically violent toward Orcus out of fatherly protectiveness.
- The church in this world does not define Heaven or Hell; these concepts are introduced by ‘Heroes’ from Earth
—
Character Insight:
Carmilla demonstrates a chilling detachment from her own life and the lives of others, treating a mass-casualty event as a ‘lecture.’ Hina and Mihiro’s reactions highlight the psychological gap between the denizens of this world and those who remember Earth’s history.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The author notes that ‘Nuk-Ria Blast’ was chosen specifically for its visual terror to serve as a warning to Envyos. Carmilla’s real name is revealed as Oribe Mira.
