Dungeon-Succubus-Tester 230

Chapter 230 Sayaka’s True Strength

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

…Tester Life Day 99, Evening. 14th Stratum¹, Gacha Temple. Sanada Yakumo…

”The 2nd Gacha Tournament is now in session! Hell yeah!”

”Yay! Since it’s Sayaka’s turn today, I bet we’ll hit the jackpot.”

As we finished our day of exploration and returned to the Gacha Temple, Karen was already in the zone, blasting ‘Get Lucky’ and dancing around with her usual high-energy flair.

”I’m going to be pulling too, you know,” Sanae chimed in, sounding far too confident.

”Don’t start. Don’t go putting that kind of pressure on me,” I muttered, effectively silencing her. I reached into my Magic Pouch² and produced the day’s haul. Today’s grind had yielded thirteen coins from 275 Orcs and another ten from eight treasure chests. Totaling it up with yesterday’s leftovers, we had 22 Copper G-Coins and two Silver ones.

Because we spent more time exploring today, we managed to find a decent number of chests. Roughly one in three buildings on the outer perimeter were accessible, and those usually had a high chance of containing a chest. I’d pegged the Silver G-Coin³ drop rate at about 10%, though I might have just been riding a lucky streak. Our Orc kill count was down, but that was expected; we’d pushed deep into the city yesterday where the encounter rate was through the roof. Today was more about the search, taking our time with breaks and a long lunch.

There was no sense in overdoing it. Grinding coins is a waste of effort if you don’t pull a winner, so I planned to take it slow, just like I did back on the town streets. At least it wasn’t raining in this Stratum.

 ”Alright, I’ll kick things off.”

 ”Good luck, Darling!”

 ”I’m expecting big things.”

”Yeah, yeah,” I replied to their half-hearted cheers. I started feeding Copper coins into the machine. I gripped the handle and gave it a firm twist. Inside the transparent sphere, the massive heap of capsules began to churn.

Thwump-clink-clack!

 ”Ah, it’s copper-colored!”

”Just like Karen’s… Wait, is it gonna drop two? Even for Sanada Yakumo?”

”Hey!” I barked. Even if two dropped, that was only a 20% rate-exactly what the law of averages predicted. Though, with Leticia’s low roll yesterday, I was hoping for a bit of a bounce-back. I was thirty pulls in now. It wouldn’t be crazy for a 3% Silver to pop; it’s a classic trope where the copper animation bait-and-switches you into a rarity.

Clank-clunk, clang-clunk, clang-clunk!

 ”Huh? Only one?”

 ”Now we’re matching,” Karen said.

”…I guess so,” I replied. Luck wasn’t with me. It was just a single, lonely copper capsule. (What the hell? That’s below the expected value. If the machine is gonna screw me, it could at least skip the ‘hopeful’ animation!)

”Master! There was carrot jelly and juice! It’s a total jackpot!” Sheena had dashed out the moment the capsule hit the tray. She held a white capsule with an expression of pure, unadulterated bliss.

”Ah, that’s great,” I said. To her, it was a jackpot. Sayaka had told her she could keep the contents as long as it was a vegetable.

”Oh, and there are five cabbages in here! We just ran out,” Sheena added.

”Meat too. And rice. This is actually a decent haul,” I noted. Apparently, we’d hit the jackpot on food items instead of gear. Feli trot over then, wagging her tail with a copper capsule in her teeth. I patted her head and checked the contents: two Grade 4 Mana Capacity recovery potions. I materialized them instantly.

”Grade 4s? In this Stratum, that’s a massive win,” I said. Having extras made me feel a lot better about our upcoming push into the inner city. A Copper capsule seemed to hold about 20,000 DP worth of value-technically less than a Copper Chest, but that’s the Gacha life for you.

 ”Okay, Sayaka, you’re up!”

 ”I’m so excited!”

”Stop it, you two. You’re making me nervous,” Sayaka said.

”Don’t sweat it. I know you’ll come through for us,” I said.

”Geez! Don’t you start too, Master!”

”Hahaha, my bad. Look, it’s only the 40th pull. A Gold isn’t just going to pop out, so just relax and turn the handle.” The real terror starts after 100 pulls. When the air gets thick with the feeling that ‘it’s due,’ and then you pull a dud… the disappointment is soul-crushing. I didn’t want that on my head, so I’d let Karen and Leticia handle the high-stakes rounds.

”I’m still shaking. I should have just gone first.”

”Sayaka-sama, please get some carrots. You can never have too many,” Sheena added, displaying a total inability to read the room that rivaled Sanae. Sayaka just gave her a look of pure exasperation. (How are you supposed to respond to someone putting that much pressure on a white capsule?) When carrots are involved, Sheena really does turn into a disappointing rabbit just like Sanae.

Sayaka fed her coins into the slot. “Deep breath… in… out… Here goes!” She twisted the handle with everything she had. The capsules swirled violently, and then a brilliant Silver light flashed.

 ”Whoa!”

 ”Yes! It’s Silver!”

”Man, the Goddess of Luck really is on another level,” I muttered. Sayaka never failed to deliver.

Clank-clunk, clang-clunk, clang-clunk!

”Whoa! A Silver really dropped! And three Coppers too!”

 ”Sayaka, you’re amazing. The GOAT.”

 ”Mumu… not bad, Sayaka.”

”As expected of Sayaka-sama,” Sheena said.

”Yeah, you never let us down,” I added. Sayaka just looked like she’d finally been allowed to breathe again. I’d definitely put too much pressure on her; I’d have to make it up to her tonight.

Karen and Leticia peeked into the Silver capsule and practically screamed. “Wait! Is this a Magic Tent?”

 ”Ooh, the expensive one!”

”Ho. It’s a brown cube, so it’s a Grade 5. Perfect for the familiars’ house,” I said. It was the same 200,000 DP model I’d bought for Kurokawa. It’d be perfect for Rock and the others on the isolated island.

”We did it, Rock-chan! You’ve got a house! I’ll set up a shack for Feli-chan too. And Lucy-chan, Saizou-san, and Hanako-chan can take baths every day now!” Sayaka looked happier talking to the animals than she did about the pull itself.

 ”Wafun!”

 ”Woof woof! ♪”

 ”Ahn! Ahn!”

”By your leave,” Saizou said, kneeling. Hanako just clapped her hands.

”As expected of my best friend. We got two Scrolls and two Grade 4 Mana Potions over here too,” Sanae said, handing me the Copper capsules. I flowed Mana into the scrolls. One was ‘Clean,’ and the other was ‘Fire Arrow.’

”Sheena, is this for you?” I asked.

”It is,” she replied. It gave her another long-range magic option, which was exactly what we needed. She handed her white capsule to Sayaka and tucked the scroll into her belt. (I really need to buy her a Magic Pouch, though I’m worried she’d just fill it with carrots.)

 ”Alright, let’s head back.”

”Yeah! Today was a total win!”

”I’m so happy Feli got a home.”

”Now Hanako can live in a real room instead of a shed.”

Sayaka smiled, clearly pleased that everyone was taken care of. Watching them, I couldn’t help but hope every day could end like this.

* * *

Once we got back to ‘My Room,’ Moe and Kyoko were there to greet us. It’s nice having people waiting for you; everyone’s been smiling more lately. I stripped off my gear, hit the baths, and finished the day’s accounting. I stopped by the Shop to pick up grooming supplies and bedding for the familiars, then headed to the isolated island to set up the Magic Tent.

I picked a spot near the cliffs out back-easier for Saizou to slip in and out. I had Rock and Hanako help lug in the carpets and futons. The space was a massive 20-tatami studio, so I set up a partition in the middle for the males and females. I gave Feli a big, fluffy cushion in the corner.

After stocking the bathroom, I put Saizou in charge. Lucy is a slob, and while Hanako is obsessed with her own hygiene, she doesn’t care about the room. Saizou, taciturn as he is, would keep things in order.

With the familiars settled, I headed back for dinner. Karen and Leticia gushed about the Gacha results, and even Moe and Kyoko made sure to praise Sayaka. She just ate her dinner bashfully, insisting it was all luck.

When it finally came time for bed, I invited Sayaka, Moe, and Kyoko to the room. It was Sayaka’s first time joining in with the others, and she was acting incredibly shy. Moe also seemed a bit embarrassed about performing in front of her student, but Kyoko was completely unfazed, urging us to just get started. Sayaka was actually a bit creeped out by Kyoko’s legendary stamina, asking if she was “really just G-Rank.”

”She’s just a high-spec version of Sanae,” I told her, which seemed to satisfy her.

We enjoyed a long session together, and after that, I moved on to some private, Wall-Butt time with our little Queen.
