Volume 3 Chapter 2 Differences in Common Sense
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
If all I wanted was to gather allies, I could do that with my Phantom Summoning¹ skill. It’s beyond my reach at this exact moment, but give me two months and I could even pull off “her”-the one Kazuya summoned. But in my head, those are just “2.5D” beings. A partner envisioned by the summoner via Phantom Summoning is essentially just a partner who acts exactly as the summoner desires. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, I suppose, but I just wasn’t in the mood for it.
===
After we stepped out of the Gruenewald Merchant Guild, we headed off to get Liese some equipment. I could just give her the spear I bought a while back, but I figured my old armor wouldn’t cut it. We’re about the same height, but our builds are totally different. Plus, I’m severely lacking in the tail department.
”Let’s try this again: nice to meet you, Liese,” I said as we walked. “I’m Daisuke. As you heard earlier, I’m an adventurer.”
”I look forward to working with you, Master. I will serve you with all my heart and soul. One day, I hope to master the spear well enough to protect you.”
She replied with a serious greeting. She’s a bit stiff, but I figure we’ll get closer eventually. Not that it’ll happen overnight, thanks to that Ordeal² effect.
”Don’t push yourself too hard, but I’m counting on you. You’re Level 7, so you’ve hunted monsters before, right?”
”Yes. Though I could only just barely manage to take down Goblins.”
Well, at least we can skip hunting Horn Rabbits. We’ll save camping for another time; for now, prioritizing level-ups in the dungeon is the move.
”You’ll get stronger with practice. We’ll hit the dungeon starting tomorrow, but first, let’s get you geared up. I’ll explain the nitty-gritty later, but I want you to start as a porter so you can get a feel for the adventurer life.”
”Understood,” Liese replied.
When we arrived at the workshop of Captain Ralph, Miryam-san was minding the shop.
”Welcome, Daisuke-san,” she said.
”Hey there, Miryam-san.”
She gave me a bright smile, but no matter how I looked at her, it just felt like an elementary schooler was running the place. These loli Dwarfs are something else. (If I actually said that out loud, Ralph would probably deck me.)
”A lot’s happened, and this girl, Liese, is going to be adventuring with me. We’re here for some armor.”
”I am Master’s slave, Liese. It is a pleasure to meet you.”
”I see,” Miryam-san said. “Step this way and I’ll take your measurements.”
Miryam-san didn’t even blink at the fact that I had a slave. I guess it’s nothing out of the ordinary in this world. Nobody on the street gave us a second look, either.
Speaking of which, Liese has a collar, but it’s not a magical restraint. It’s just a decorative piece to show her status. She didn’t have to wear it, but she insisted on it so strongly I gave in. The actual magical binding is handled via Contract Magic, which is invisible to anyone not using Appraisal.
Marcel-san had explained that making her slave status clear acts as a sign that she’s under someone’s protection. Apparently, Dragonewts with gray hair and scales like hers are known to lack certain magical aptitudes, making them targets for discrimination. Because of that, the collar is actually a safety measure. Messing with a slave is the same as picking a fight with their master-and I have zero intention of going easy on anyone who touches Liese.
Once the measurements were done, we picked out the materials. I figured bronze was fine for a start. If her gear is too high-spec before she has the skills to back it up, it might just cause trouble-like someone trying to kill her just to loot the gear.
”Um… I fear new armor is far too extravagant for a slave,” Liese whispered.
”It’s fine, don’t sweat it,” I said.
”But…”
”If it really bothers you, just work hard and pay me back with your service.”
”…Yes. Thank you, Master.”
Man, she really is a straight-laced one. I’ll have to keep an eye on her so she doesn’t overdo it.
”Makoto started his formal apprenticeship here today, right? How’s he doing?”
”He’s doing well,” Miryam-san replied. “His Growth Rate is quite high. Since his level is sufficient, I think he’ll be a pro after a few years of training.”
Dwarfs are a long-lived race, so their levels usually end up higher than humans. The same goes for their Skills. Even with a 10x Experience Cheat, it still takes years of training to earn a Dwarf’s respect. (Good luck, Makoto-do it for the chance to marry Miryam-san.) I wanted to tell him about the slave situation, but he looked busy. I’ll just leave him a note later.

I had most of the adventuring essentials, but I obviously didn’t have any feminine hygiene products on hand, so we hit up an item shop. I bought towels, underwear, and some casual clothes within my budget. Liese tried the “But new items are…” routine again, but I shut it down with a “Too late, I already paid.”
After that, we headed back to the inn to talk. Since I’d originally intended to get a male slave, I hadn’t booked a separate room. Actually, even with a guy, sharing one bed would be a nightmare. I’m not interested in pitching or catching. Sharing a room with Liese felt like a bad idea, so I tried to get her a separate one.
”Master, you mustn’t! Giving a slave a private room on par with your own will invite contempt from everyone around us!”
”Wait, really?” I asked.
Liese shut me down hard. Apparently, in this world’s common sense, a slave staying at an inn is fine, but a private room of the same grade is unheard of. But there wasn’t a lower grade available, and I wasn’t about to send her to the stables.
”If it is acceptable to you, Master, please allow me to stay in your room.”
”I mean, I’m fine with it, but are you sure?”
”Yes. It is more convenient for me to attend to your needs that way.”
(Well, it’s going to make my nightly “Private Power Generation” a lot trickier, but I guess I can make it work.)
”Fine. But tell me the second you want your own space, okay?”
”Thank you. I understand.”

We upgraded to a twin room and sat down. At first, Liese insisted on sleeping on the floor of my old single room, but I don’t have the kind of heart that lets me sleep soundly while a girl is on the floor. I finally talked her into the twin room as a compromise. Even now, she insisted on standing until I literally ordered her to sit. If this is how “common sense” works here, this is going to be exhausting. In that sense, Ilse-who isn’t my slave-is way easier to deal with since she has zero filter.
Anyway, since we’re heading into combat, I need to see what I’m working with.
”Liese, I have Appraisal. Is it okay if I check your Status?”
”I already belong to you, Master. Do as you wish.”
The cultural gap is real. Anyway, time for a peek.
Appraisal
Race: Dragonewt
Gender: Female
Name: Liese (16)
Lv: 7
HP: 130
MP: 70
Status: Slave (Master: Daisuke)
Class: Spearman
Titles: The Two Conflicting Dragons (Fire Dragon, Ice Dragon)
Blessings: None
Ability: STR 130 / VIT 100 / AGI 100 / DEX 130 / INT 70 / MND 70
Skills: Spear Aptitude, Spear Technique (4), (Seal) Fire Magic (1), (Seal) Water Magic (1), Cleaning (3), Laundry (3), Cooking (1)
EXP: 72/686
Skill Points: 70
Her Ability scores are fine, but those Titles and Skills are a mess. The Two Conflicting Dragons title is likely what’s keeping her Fire and Water magic under lock and key. Normally that’d be a permanent handicap, but with my Level 9 Healing Magic, I might be able to break it. I doubt many humans have ever used this level of white magic before.
”Hold still, I want to try something.”
”Yes, Master.”
(Seal: Release!³)
I targeted her Fire Magic and focused on the Release spell. It had a bit of a wind-up time. I don’t chant out loud, so I guess you’d call it “activation time,” though the game calls them things like Parallel Casting or High-speed Incantation. (Honestly, the name of this spell reminds me of a certain magical girl. There’s a girl among the Transferees with the same name, but their personalities couldn’t be further apart. I kind of feel bad for the other one.)
Liese was enveloped in a faint light. It should have worked… but Liese’s Sealed status hadn’t changed.
”Liese, did you hear a system announcement?”
”Yes,” Liese replied. “It said: ‘Due to the effect of the Title: Two Conflicting Dragons, Fire Magic has been Sealed.’”
Damn, that’s rough. If it were a normal status ailment, my magic would have scrubbed it, but a Title-based effect is on a whole different level. I’m going to need a different approach. It’s not the end of the world if she can’t use magic, but I’d like to fix it if I can. I’ll do some digging at the library next Yellow Day⁴.
”I see. Also, don’t mention what I just tried to anyone.”
”Understood.”
She didn’t seem to realize that momentarily breaking a Title Seal with Healing Magic was a huge deal, but I made sure to swear her to secrecy anyway.
* * *
We ate dinner at the inn. Liese tried to stand and watch me eat again, but I made her sit and join me. She needs to get used to this lifestyle pronto. I’d actually spent an extra day last week hunting Orcs to supply the inn, and I’d thrown in some Minotaur stock too. Tonight was a meat-heavy welcome party for Liese. Meat is a luxury in this world, so I hoped she’d appreciate it.
”M-Master, this is…!”
”Eat up, Liese. Don’t hold back. You’re the guest of honor tonight.”
Liese’s eyes were ping-ponging between the steak and my face at high speed. Her eyes were sparkling, her mouth was hanging half-open, and her tail was thumping the floor-thump, thump, thump-in pure excitement. The moment I gave the go-ahead, she dived in.
”Oh! It’s been so long since I’ve had meat! This is Orc! Wait, is this Minotaur too?! This texture! The juices won’t stop! It’s incredible!”
”Hey, slow down. Chew your food,” I said.
Her tail continued to drum against the floor in pure bliss. She looked so happy with her cheeks stuffed full. (I’ll have to make sure she eats some veggies, too.) It was a cute contrast to her usual knightly persona. Even at a place like the Merchant Guild, it seems meat is a rarity. There are ranches, but monsters make logistics a nightmare, so it’s nothing like the meat industry back home. Orc meat is basically the Wagyu of this world, and Minotaur is even higher tier.
”Master, thank you. I, Liese, swear to become strong and be of use to you!”
”A-Ah. I’m counting on you.”
She made that vow with a sharp face right after wiping the grease off her chin. (Did her loyalty just skyrocket? Man, she really loves meat. If I can buy her loyalty with a steak, that’s easy enough, but I wonder if I can afford to feed her like this every day. I’ll have to play it by ear.)
* * *
My usual routine involves a cold wash after dinner. Liese didn’t object, so we headed to the inn’s well. It’s summer, so cold water is fine, but I really need to break that Seal soon. Otherwise, I’ll have to use my magic to make a hot shower, which means I’d have to see her naked. Liese probably wouldn’t mind, but to my modern sensibilities, seeing an employee’s naked body is a no-go. (I mean, it’s not that I don’t want to see it-I’d love to, honestly-but you’ve gotta draw a line somewhere.)
After the wash, it was straight to bed. (Well, I still had my private business to attend to, but I’d handle that in the toilet like a civilized person. Doing that in front of Liese would be the ultimate harassment.)
”Alright, let’s get some sleep,” I said.
”Yes. Excuse me.”
The moment I spoke, Liese started peeling her clothes off.
Wait, what?! Why?! Does she sleep in the buff? I panicked and looked away, shouting for her to stop.
”Liese! What are you doing?! Put your clothes back on!”
”Huh? Oh, I see. That is your preference then. My apologies… Is this acceptable?”
She put her clothes back on, but then she started climbing into my bed. Wait, is she… night-waiting? Is that why she wanted the same room? I didn’t order this!
”Liese… are you trying to offer yourself for the night?”
”Yes. Was I mistaken to do so?”
(If you’re asking if I want to, then yeah, obviously. But that’s not the point.)
”Liese, you’re doing this because you think it’s part of your duty as a slave, right?”
”Yes,” she replied.
She looked at me like I was the crazy one. I figured as much.
”Then I don’t need it. I told you at the Guild-I’m not going to force you into that.”
”But Master isn’t forcing me.”
”If you’re doing it just because you’re a slave, then for me, it’s the same as forcing you. You might not get it, but that’s just how I operate.”
”I… understand.”
She listened, at least. I figured I should toss her a bone, though.
”It’s not that I don’t find you attractive. Get that through your head, at least.”
”…I understand,” Liese said.
She nodded with a complicated look, probably wondering why the hell I wasn’t grabbing her if I liked what I saw. Regardless, we’re finally going to sleep. Liese probably didn’t mean anything by it, but man, I’m exhausted from all this emotional whiplash.

TL Notes:
Notes:
• Kazuya – Scrawny, low‑key Leeman summoner and lazy‑talking geek with vanished freckles, clutching a 2‑D little brother. He grades his 20+ summoning magic alone, treats summons as emotional anchors, and obsessively pulls a specific past‑life character. A Transferee and Phantom Summoner, former gacha whale who spent a year in the new world solely to summon his favorite fictional character, planning to depart soon.
• Liese – 16-year-old Dragonewt. Class: Lancer (L7). Grey long hair, thick horns, grey scales on neck/limbs, 170cm, thin chest. No fire/water magic aptitude. A 16-year-old Dragonewt slave with gray hair and scales. Spear user (Spearman). Has the Titles ‘The Two Conflicting Dragons’. Loyal, serious, and enjoys meat. A slave and novice adventurer under Daisuke. Formerly educated by the Grunewald merchant guild. Uses a steel spear. Has a tail.
• Miryam – A Dwarf who works at Ralph’s blacksmith shop. Described as having a child-like appearance (loli dwarf).
• Ralph – Ralph-san, a dwarf blacksmith and shop owner, runs his workshop with pride, values rest days, and holds the rank of Captain. He is Milliam’s father and Miryam’s employer/associate.
• Marcel – Middle-aged man with polite service but intimidating eyes. A professional slave trader at the Gruenewald Merchant Guild.
• Makoto – Leeman, a former Earth‑summoned blacksmith turned slimmer, clear‑skinned goblin‑tank, wields a massive shield and heavy armor. He speaks stiff samurai‑style “sogashi,” apprentices under Ralph, and is called Makoto‑san by Milliam, an open lolicon who declares “cuteness is justice.” He admires an elegant elven girl, balances his loli obsession with reverence for grace, and as a transferee with growth rate works to impress Miryam.
• Ilse – 16‑year‑old demi‑human bandit, level 5 Archer (Archery Lv3), petite with beast‑ears, large‑breasted yet youthful, soft sensitive skin, cheeky‑stubborn but serious‑hearted. Slave of Elmer, earns sexual “rewards” from Daisuke and faints at climax; meets the protagonist monthly, sharp‑tongued yet diligent, now his lover. In the brothel she’s called a ‘lightweight’ or ‘small fry’ for basic practice.
• Sakura – Reincarnated high‑school girl, Destroyer class, 160 cm slender with twin‑tails, perpetual scowl, thin chest armor and a short‑hair yankee style. Former JK Party member, once double‑dated Hero Shouta and Holy Knight Takumi, openly disliked by the protagonist and at odds with Daisuke. Now Otto’s supportive girlfriend, part of the Hero Party’s entourage, aiming to climb nobility by marrying into the party; their “stupid couple” dynamic is affectionate yet antagonistic.
