Volume 3 Chapter 5 Vindication
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I had to explain to the Transferee¹ girls’ party why I’d bought Liese before rumors started flying. I knew the locals would misunderstand, but I wanted to avoid being branded with the reputation of someone who treats people like “s*x slaves.”
I finished my work—or rather, my labor—in the dungeon a bit early and waited for them to return at the Guild. Liese was with me. I needed a few days to get our new life on track and, more importantly, to show that I wasn’t going to lay a finger on her. I just hoped the rumors hadn’t already reached them in the meantime.
”Oh, it’s Daisuke,” Nanami greeted as she walked in. “How are you?”
”Is that you, Nanami?” I replied. “Good work today. I’m doing well.”
”I have something I want to explain to everyone,” I continued, “and a girl I’d like to introduce. You guys got a second?”
”Oh, you mean the slave girl?” Hina chimed in. “Yeah, we know~”
”Buying a (sei) slave… you’re the lowest of the low!” Misaki-san exclaimed.
”Daisuke-san, you really shouldn’t have…!” Rin added.
”Now, now, let’s not jump to conclusions,” Mai interjected. “It might be another misunderstanding. Let’s hear him out!”
”……”
”(What?! No, no, no—this is a disaster!)” I thought as I saw their reactions. Nanami looked like she was just enjoying the show, but Hina and Misaki-san were definitely getting the wrong idea. Mai was the only one willing to actually listen. I couldn’t tell what Rin was thinking, but the way she silently drifted toward Liese and stepped between us… yeah, she definitely thinks I’m a creep.
”Daisuke-kun,” Yumiko-san said, “can we have a little chat?”
”Yes…” I replied.
”We’ll let the girl tell us her side of the story over here,” she added.
”Um, Master…?” Liese asked, looking at me.
”It’s okay, Liese,” I assured her. “Go ahead and talk to them.”
Yumiko-san, who was smiling but radiating pure, unadulterated fury, grabbed me and dragged me off to the corner. Liese looked at me, asking if it was okay to follow Nanami and the others; I figured they weren’t the type to actually hurt her.
”Daisuke-kun,” Yumiko-san began, “I heard you bought a slave. Care to explain yourself?”
”Yes,” I started. “As you probably know, our party disbanded.”
I gave Yumiko-san the full rundown: our party falling apart, how much a lone man stands out as an adventurer, how depressing it is to be in a cave by yourself, how hard it is to join a regular party, and the fact that the girls’ parties were full—not that a lone guy would fit in anyway. I told her I’d initially looked into buying a male slave, but they were too expensive, and I didn’t want people thinking I had… certain proclivities.
I made sure to emphasize that I hadn’t touched Liese and had no intention of forcing a relationship on her.
”Sigh… fine, I get it,” Yumiko-san said. “You’ve already bought Liese-chan anyway, and I can understand the circumstances. I’ll explain it to the rest of the girls for you.”
”Thank you so much,” I replied, relieved.
”But next time, talk to us first,” she added. “I’m sure there’s something we could have done to help.”
”Yes,” I acknowledged. “I’m sorry.”
”Daisuke-dono was a gentleman after all!” Nanami exclaimed as the girls returned. “Hahaha!”
”I’m impressed you haven’t laid a hand on her yet,” Mai added.
”I’m sorry for the misunderstanding,” Hina apologized.
”…I apologize,” Rin mumbled.
”We’re so sorry~” Misaki-san chimed in.
”No, it’s my fault for not being clear,” I said. “You don’t need to apologize. I’m the one who’s sorry for making things look so suspicious.”
Liese, meanwhile, looked at me as I bowed with a puzzled expression, seemingly not quite grasping why this had been such a big deal. I’ll have to explain it to her later.

As we were walking back to the inn from the Guild, I ran into someone I knew. “Good work today, Edgar,” I greeted.
”Big Bro!” Edgar exclaimed. “Help me!”
”Slow down,” I said. “I don’t know what’s going on. Explain.”
”Right,” Edgar began. “You know Hans, from my party?”
”The Priest-type human?” I asked. “I only remembered him as the guy who was always completely gapped for stamina.”
”Yeah,” Edgar continued. “What happened to Hans?”
”Me and Hans took a ‘miscellaneous tasks’ request,” Edgar explained, “but Hans had some business at the temple and can’t make it…”
”Okay, and?” I prompted.
”I know it’s rude to ask a B-Rank adventurer for something like this,” Edgar said, “but please! Help me! If I ditch this, I’m gonna get slapped with a massive fine!”
”So, you just need me to stand in for Hans?” I clarified.
”Exactly!” Edgar pleaded. “Please, Big Bro!”
”Fine, I’ll do it,” I agreed. “Let me drop this girl off at the inn first, then we can meet up. Where to?”
”Thank you!” Edgar exclaimed. “You’re a lifesaver! The place is…”
We agreed to meet at the entrance of the entertainment district and went our separate ways for a moment. “Alright, I’m heading out,” I told Liese. “I’ve talked to the people at the inn, so you can eat dinner on your own. You can head to bed whenever you want.”
”Understood,” Liese replied. “Please be careful, Master.”
It was the first time I was leaving Liese alone. But since I can’t exactly take her with me when I go to “Daydream (BSS)²,” she’s going to have to get used to it.

I met up with Edgar and we headed toward the job location. “By the way,” I asked, “what exactly is this job?”
”Oh, did I not mention it?” Edgar replied. “It’s a Host Bar.”
”A Host Bar?” I repeated. “Like the male version of a girls’ bar?”
”What kind of shop is it?” I asked.
”Just your standard Host Bar,” Edgar explained. “You stand behind the counter, serve drinks, talk to the customers, and every now and then they’ll buy you a round. If a customer really likes you and you’re both down, you might even get ‘taken out’ for the night.”
”(Wait, isn’t that just a Go-Go Bar?)” I thought. Apparently, that’s what they call a Host Bar in this world. I haven’t looked for them, but I assume “Girls’ Bars” (which are definitely Go-Go Bars) exist here too.
”Does your party leader, Franziska, know about this?” I asked.
”Yeah,” Edgar replied. “Why?”
”No, if she knows, it’s fine,” I said.
I wasn’t sure if they were dating, but Franziska was the responsible one; if there was a problem, she would have stopped him.

When we arrived at the shop, I got the same rundown Edgar had given me. “There’s a uniform,” the manager explained, “so change and head out to the floor.”
The shop was already open, and there was already a decent crowd. “(Heh heh heh… I’ll show them the hospitality skills I honed in my previous life!)” I thought, just kidding myself. That was a total lie. Even in my part-time jobs, I barely ever left the kitchen. My actual career wasn’t in customer service either, so honestly, I wasn’t feeling confident. But hey, in this world, plenty of shop staff have shitty attitudes anyway, so I’d probably be fine.
I served a few groups, but thanks to the effect of my “Ordeal³,” it was hard to get my favorability up. Forget getting “taken out,” nobody was even buying me drinks. It was a little frustrating, but it couldn’t be helped.
While I was working, the bell chimed—clink-clink—and two women walked in. “Welcome!” I greeted.
”Oh? Is that Daisuke?” one of them asked. “Long time no see!”
”Huh?” I replied. “Vanessa? Hey, long time.”
”Oh, right,” I continued. “Welcome. What can I get for you ladies?”
”Cut it out,” Vanessa said. “Just act normal. This isn’t exactly a high-end joint, is it?”
”Got it,” I replied. “Is she a friend of yours, Vanessa?”
”Yeah,” Vanessa introduced. “This is Nicola, one of my juniors.”
”I-I’m Nicola!” Nicola stammered. “I-it’s a pleasure to m-meet you!”

”I’m Daisuke,” I said. “Nice to meet you, Nicola.”
”P-please… you can just talk to me normally too!” Nicola requested.
I glanced at Vanessa as if to ask, “(Is that okay?)” and she gave me a nod. If that’s what the customer wants, then that’s what she gets.
”Alright,” I agreed. “Good to meet you, Nicola.”
”Yes!” Nicola exclaimed, relieved.
I mixed some fairly strong drinks for Vanessa and Nicola right in front of them. This was technically a bar, after all. “Cheers!” I said.
”Y-yes!” Nicola replied. “Cheers!”
Vanessa and Nicola toasted, but I was worried about Nicola. She was barely managing not to spill her drink…
”Daisuke is already a B-Rank, right?” Vanessa asked. “Don’t tell me you’re actually working here?”
”No,” I replied, “I was just asked to fill in for today.”
”I see,” Vanessa said. “You’re in luck, Nicola. Daisuke is a man you can trust. (And he’s damn good at what he does.)”
”Eep!” Nicola squeaked, completely flustered by Vanessa’s teasing. It was sweet, but I wished she’d relax a little. I didn’t catch exactly what Vanessa whispered in her ear at the end, but I assumed it wasn’t an insult. Sense Malice didn’t trigger, anyway.
After a few rounds, Nicola’s tension finally started to melt away. I wanted her to actually have a good time, so I was glad. Vanessa even bought me a drink.
”Hey, Daisuke,” Vanessa said, “you free after this? I’d like to ‘take you out’.”
”Sure,” I replied, “I don’t mind.”
The wild sister had turned into a s*xy siren as the alcohol took hold. Her flushed face and sultry gaze were incredibly alluring.
”Thanks,” Vanessa said. “I want you to show Nicola the ropes when it comes to men.”
”Wait… are you sure?” I asked, looking at Nicola.
”Y-yes…!” Nicola replied, beet-red and nervous all over again, but she didn’t seem to be saying no.
”Giving Nicola her first ‘experience’ was the whole reason I brought her here tonight, anyway,” Vanessa explained.
”I see,” I said, understanding the situation. That explained why Nicola had been so wound up. I hadn’t been with a virgin since Ilse. I’ll give it my all to make sure it’s a night she’ll never forget.
