Volume 3 Chapter 7 Wanted

When I returned to the inn late that night, Liese was still awake.

”Liese, why are you still up? I told you it was okay to go to bed, didn’t I?” I asked.

”Yes. However, regardless of whether we have separate rooms, it is unthinkable for a slave who shares quarters to sleep before her master returns,” Liese replied.

(Dammit. Just saying it was ‘okay’ wasn’t enough to make her actually do it. I’m still being too naive about how things work here.)

”I don’t know how other people handle it, but I don’t care about stuff like that. In fact, it actually bothers me more that you’re staying up. From now on, you’re to go to bed, okay?” I said.

 ”…I understand,” Liese answered.

She looked flustered, likely caught between her own common sense and my demands. She gave her word, but her face was still a mask of confusion.

”Sorry, Liese. It seems I’m a pretty strange master compared to what you’re used to,” I said.

”No, Master treats me very well. I simply haven’t adjusted to such… undeserved kindness as a slave,” Liese replied.

Her attitude was still stiff, but I was relieved to see she didn’t seem to resent the situation.

The next day was Orange Day¹. Normally, I’d treat it like a Saturday and wrap up my dungeon exploration early. Even though it was just the two of us now, I wanted to stick to that routine.

Since Liese had reached Level 11, we moved on to the second floor where the Kobolds prowl. She’s finally reached a point where she can manage three Goblins at once, but Kobolds are speed-types; positioning is everything with them. After drills on the first floor, she was gradually improving. Taking on three Kobolds at once is still a stretch for her, but she’ll get there as her level rises. As planned, we cut the exploration short and headed back to the inn.

Since there’s no reward for Ilse this week, today was my day to visit “Daydream”². I’d promised Rita and Nora I’d request them two weeks ago; since it was Rita’s turn last week, today was Nora’s.

”I’m heading out. I’ll be late again, so make sure you’re asleep,” I told her.

”…I understand. Have a safe journey,” Liese replied.

She still had that sour expression, clearly not fully convinced. Since I really needed her to rest, I decided to take a harder line.

”If you aren’t asleep when I get back, no meat for a week,” I warned.

”!!! Understood! I shall not do anything to cause Master any further worry!” Liese shouted.

The threat was super effective on a meat-lover like Liese. She snapped to attention with a sharp salute. (That should do the trick. Though now she’s in a different kind of ‘Mind’ state…)

My [Sense Malice]³ barely pings around Rita or Nora. Naturally, it doesn’t react to Regina-san, either. Nora might seem like she’s just playing the flirty, “sweetheart” role—much like Henriette, the new receptionist at the guild—but on the inside, she’s completely different.

During today’s session with Nora, I let her take the lead for the first half so I could savor her technique. In the second half, I pushed her right to the limit, making sure to stop just before it would interfere with her work tomorrow. Nora is an expert at the advanced technique known as “Deep Throat,” providing a sensation entirely different from a v**ina. Her breasts aren’t massive, but they’re incredibly soft; when I thrust in the missionary position, they sway provocatively, fueling the fire. Most importantly, her proactive attitude is amazing. I have a blast, and it feels incredible. When I returned the favor and sent her through back-to-back climaxes, she turned into a puddle of mush.

”Every time I’m with Daisuke-san, you make me lose it so good… but from a professional standpoint, it’s actually kind of frustrating! ♡” Nora teased.

When I finished up with Nora and returned to the inn, Liese was fast asleep. For me, Liese getting her rest is what matters most. I’ll count this as a win—she prioritized her master’s direct order over her own principles.

The following day, Yellow Day, was a day of rest. My schedule was lunch with Mercedes, the library in the afternoon, and a date with the Gale Party in the evening. Liese was probably exhausted from the unfamiliar dungeon work, so I wanted her to rest if she wished, but if she was up for it, I wanted to introduce her to Mercedes and the Gale Party.

”Liese, there’s a place I want you to come with me today, but generally, Yellow Day is for resting. Are you okay to come along? If you’re too tired, you can stay here, but it’s still worrying for you to walk the streets alone. Until your level is a bit higher, I want you to stay in the inn if I’m not with you,” I said.

”I understand. I am perfectly fine, so I shall accompany you. Master, if you go out from next week onwards, what should I be doing with my time?” Liese asked.

It felt weird giving her instructions on how to relax, but Liese truly had no concept of “time off.”

”If you’re tired, sleep. If you have energy, you can practice with your spear in the courtyard. Or maybe maintain your gear. Honestly, just sitting around and zoning out is fine, too,” I suggested.

 ”Understood,” Liese replied.

(I have a feeling she’ll end up training with that spear. As long as she isn’t pushing herself too hard, I won’t stop her.)

Lunch with Mercedes was at our usual spot, a slightly upscale cafe-restaurant. Slaves were permitted, so Liese and I sat and waited for her. Mercedes was late. Yellow Day isn’t a holiday for her, but she’s rarely behind schedule. She might be a “Disappointing Beauty,” but she’s usually a stickler for time.

”So sorry! I kept you waiting!” Mercedes panted.

”I don’t mind, but what happened?” I asked.

When Mercedes finally arrived, she was clad in her full Knight Order armor. Since it was clumsy to eat in, she began shedding pieces of it as we waited for our order.

”There’s been an incident. Everything is in an uproar,” Mercedes explained.

”Is that something you can talk about?” I asked.

”It’s somewhat related to you, Daisuke-san, so it’s fine. But it’s bad if others overhear,” Mercedes whispered.

”Really? Hold on, I’ll soundproof the area. [Silent Field],” I said.

(An incident involving me that has the Knights this busy? I can’t think of a thing.)

”Alright, so what’s the story?” I asked.

”The Hero Party that set out from the Royal Capital… one week after their departure—meaning one week ago today—Otto was expelled from the group,” Mercedes said.

 ”Wait, what!?” I blurted out.

The sudden news caught me off guard, but on second thought, it wasn’t that shocking. It was Otto, after all.

 ”The reason?” I asked.

”Primarily a lack of ability, but there were various other factors. For instance…” Mercedes started.

As I listened, it turned out Otto was indeed incompetent, but his behavior was even worse. If it had just been a lack of power, they might have parted ways amicably, but with that personality of his… By the way, Sakura—who had been hoping to ride Otto’s coattails into high society—was also kicked out.

Apparently, she’s become a solo adventurer in that town. She’s strong enough to feed herself without overexerting, so she’ll probably save up enough for retirement. (Just don’t come over here, okay?)

”That’s definitely an incident, but is it enough to make the Knights this busy?” I asked.

”No, that was just the catalyst. The real problem started after that. Immediately after being expelled, Otto rushed back to the Capital and met with Commander Günther. He deceived the Commander and made off with items from the Sealed Vault,” Mercedes explained.

(Otto, you absolute moron… But what’s a ‘Sealed Vault’?)

”What exactly is the ‘Sealed Vault’? And what did he steal?” I asked.

”The Sealed Vault is where we keep items of extreme danger. Only a handful of people in the kingdom have access. He stole the [Wishing Device] and the [Mental Slave Manufacturer]. The former grants the user’s wish in exchange for a specific price, and the latter is a magic tool for brainwashing,” Mercedes said.

He stole some seriously nasty stuff. I don’t remember doing anything to make Otto hold a grudge, but I’d better stay alert. I have resistance to mental magic, but that might not work on brainwashing that isn’t classified as “magic.” Since magic tools usually produce effects identical to magic, I’m probably fine, but I should probably pick up some [Brainwashing Resistance] skills just in case.

”The Knight Order is in shambles over whether Commander Günther should resign for being tricked into letting such dangerous items be taken. We can’t just leave Otto and those artifacts out there. A capture order has been issued, but it seems he’s already fled the country. A bounty has been placed on his head, so the Adventurer’s Guilds worldwide will be notified soon. I’ve been busy coordinating all of that,” Mercedes said.

”I see. Sorry that a total idiot from my hometown is causing so much trouble,” I apologized.

”No, it’s not your fault, Daisuke-san,” Mercedes replied.

Despite her words, Mercedes looked drained. It was rare to see her this way, since her energy is usually her best feature.

”I can’t help with the Knights’ paperwork, but if you need anything, just say the word. Here, at least let me do this much. [Great Heal]. [Refresh],” I said.

I felt so bad for her that I cast magic to soothe her physical and mental exhaustion.

”Oh? Ohhh! The fatigue is gone! I feel great! Thank you!” Mercedes exclaimed.

”Good. Keep that a secret, alright?” I warned.

I’d used [Refresh] without thinking, but it would be bad if the higher-ups found out I had that kind of utility. I don’t know exactly how potent it’s considered in this world, so I told her to keep it quiet.

”I understand! Now I can head to that matchmaking party tonight in top form!” Mercedes laughed.

”Ah… in that case, maybe I shouldn’t have healed you,” I joked.

 ”Huh? Why?” Mercedes asked.

”Because when you’re full of energy, you go right back to being ‘disappointing’,” I teased.

”How rude! I am a graceful and lovely girl knight! Wait, should I upgrade to ‘Beautiful Knight’ now…?” Mercedes pondered.

”The Disappointing Beautiful Knight,” I said.

”Hey! Don’t you dare start spreading that around!” Mercedes yelled.

”I’ll give it some thought,” I replied.

”That means you are going to spread it, isn’t it!?” Mercedes cried.

Teasing the revitalized Mercedes was fun, as always. Her energy is definitely infectious. I decided to leave it at that.

”By the way, Mercedes, I should probably introduce her properly. Liese, say hello,” I said.

”Yes. I am Liese, a slave. It is an honor to meet you,” Liese bowed.

”The pleasure is mine,” Mercedes replied.

I figured Mercedes wouldn’t care, but to keep up appearances with the world’s common sense, I’d had Liese stand while we ate. Generally, a slave doesn’t speak unless the master prompts them.

”Mercedes, you don’t have any prejudices against slaves, right? Is it okay if she eats with us?” I asked.

”Of course, I don’t mind at all,” Mercedes replied.

”Thanks. Alright, Liese, sit down and eat,” I said.

”Yes. Thank you very much,” Liese replied.

As usual, we enjoyed our meal while listening to more stories about the Hero Party. Liese’s tail was swaying gently behind her, though she didn’t seem too worked up. It looked like she was mostly just focused on the meat dish.
