Chapter 292 Leki and Mashiro

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”This is unbelievable…”

I muttered the words under my breath as I watched the struggle unfolding between Leki-chan and the female Apostle. I only knew the Apostle was a woman because her armor was clearly feminine. Leki-chan was swinging her Grand Basher¹—its power boosted by my own Enchantment Weapon²—yet the woman was stopping those heavy blows with just her left hand. She wasn’t even grabbing the weapon; she was parrying it with her bare palm.

In any normal world, that would be impossible. Leki-chan is the Master’s daughter and his second Kin, a Barghest³ of the highest order. Beyond her, you’re looking at wolves of literal legend; she’s effectively the apex of her species. Her potential even dwarfs that of Lil-san, the Master’s wife.

In our entire group, the only ones stronger than Leki-chan are the Master himself and Orcus—and even Orcus can’t win against her unless he triggers his Warmonger state. In our mock battles, Leki-chan usually dominates him. (Speaking of Warmonger, it’s a passive-trigger skill. It probably didn’t kick in during the practice rounds because, well, they were mock battles.)

And yet, this woman was stopping her cold. It was unnatural. This Apostle had some kind of trick up her sleeve, likely a Skill, but with that helmet on, I couldn’t see who—or what—she really was. The Apostle shoved Leki-chan back and made a beeline for me.

”Not on my watch!” Leki-chan shouted.

Leki-chan lunged between us, cutting her off. I’m not going to sit here and say it felt pathetic to be protected by a child. Leki-chan is just objectively stronger than me. Besides, my sorcery was barely leaving a scratch. Everything I threw at her was either Resisted or mitigated to the point where it barely dealt any damage. Since I was useless on offense, I decided to dedicate myself fully to support, but…

”Gah, seriously! Why won’t you budge?! I’m giving this everything I’ve got!” Leki-chan cried.

According to the Master, Leki-chan’s full power can leave craters in the earth. She’s toppled giants and even cracked the skull of a King Basilisk, a Sub-dragon. (Granted, Leki-chan ended up Petrified in the process, so that was more of a mutual takedown.)

”If I could just figure out who she is…” I hissed through gritted teeth.

”Allow me to reveal the lady’s identity, then,” a masculine voice rang out.

A black shadow blurred across the battlefield. In a heartbeat, it moved inside the Apostle’s guard and delivered a lightning-fast palm strike that sent her helmet spinning into the dirt. The shadow resolved into Alpha, the Master’s personal butler and a member of the War-Ogre race. With the helmet gone, the Apostle’s face was laid bare. It was Nigotori Maki.

”Tch…” Nigotori scowled, clicking her tongue.

To me, Nigotori was nothing more than one of Tenkouin’s lackeys. However, it seemed she and Tatei-kun had some deep history. I hadn’t heard the details, so I didn’t know the exact nature of what had passed between them. Her Unique Skill was called Protection of Raguel. Raguel—the ‘Friend of God’—is the angel tasked with executing those who rebel against the heavens. In other words, an anti-angel specialist. For those of us serving as the Master’s apostles, she was our natural counter.

But that didn’t explain how she was overpowering Leki-chan so easily. Nor did it explain why she was so wide open against Alpha, or why his strike had actually managed to land with enough force to blow her helmet off.

”Your physical attributes and swordplay are top-notch, young lady. But your defense is full of holes,” Alpha remarked, light on his feet as he took a stance. He intended to face her completely unarmed.

”Full of holes? You’ve got a big mouth,” Nigotori spat. “Do you truly believe a lower lifeform like you can match me? I am the strongest of Lady Aurelia’s Apostles!”

”Quite easily, yes. Your technique is several leagues below the Apostle of the Katana we faced earlier,” Alpha replied.

”You’re going to regret that!” Nigotori shouted, a vein throbbing on her forehead. “Then prove it!”

”With pleasure. I shall not hold back,” Alpha said.

Alpha settled into a boxing stance. I wondered if he’d arrived at that posture naturally since he was fighting bare-handed, or if someone had coached him. If it was the latter, I had a pretty good guess who. It had the Master’s touch written all over it. (Still, a handsome, dark-skinned boxer in a butler suit? I wonder if he’s playing to a specific trope on purpose?)

Alpha began to rhythmically bounce on the balls of his feet, probing for a gap. Nigotori held a traditional mid-level guard. They closed the distance inch by inch, but Alpha was the one to pull the trigger.

Whip!

Alpha’s left jab flashed out. I remember hearing that the jab is the fastest punch in a fighter’s arsenal. It was incredibly quick. Nigotori barely managed to slip it by tilting her head, but she wasn’t fast enough. A thin red line opened on her right cheek. What a terrifyingly sharp strike.

”You’d dare aim for a woman’s face?!” Nigotori screamed.

”My apologies. I’m a firm believer in equal opportunity,” Alpha said.

Alpha danced away from Nigotori’s retaliatory strike with effortless grace. He moved with a terrifying fluidity. He floated like a butterfly, and the moment she slipped…

Crack!

”Ow! You hit my face again!” Nigotori cried.

He stung like a bee. It was a beautiful, lethal cadence. Snap! Snap! A rapid-fire succession of jabs. Every single one caught her flush in the face. Driven to a frenzy, Nigotori lunged with a massive, wide swing—but Alpha was already gone, having circled back out of range. Hit and run. The classic heavyweight technique. He was executing it with surgical precision. However, Alpha himself looked puzzled.

”How strange. After taking that many hits, your face should be a swollen mess. Yet you’re virtually unmarred…” Alpha noted.

Now that he mentioned it, he was right. Nigotori had taken enough punishment to guarantee a concussion or two, yet she looked perfectly fine. This was beyond toughness—it was something else.

”Hmph… then I suppose I must change my approach,” Alpha said.

He stopped his dancing steps and shifted his weight. He dropped his guard entirely, standing with his arms at his sides in a leisurely posture.

”Giving up? Then stay right there and die,” Nigotori sneered.

”Far from it. This is your best chance, is it not? Why aren’t you attacking?” Alpha asked.

”You… you’re mocking me!” Nigotori shouted.

Falling for the taunt, Nigotori charged. Alpha slipped through her reckless lunge like smoke and pressed a light palm against her solar plexus.

 ”Break!” Alpha shouted.

”Ghu—?! What… was that…!” Nigotori gasped.

”It is Penetrating Force. The Madam taught it to me… are you not familiar?” Alpha asked.

I thought Penetrating Force was just some fictional trope from martial arts manga, but I guess it’s the real deal. Then again, the whole concept of Fa Jin seemed like a myth until I saw it bypass her armor. Still, Alpha looked unsatisfied.

”The shock should have bypassed your armor and hit the organs… but the effect is underwhelming. This is a problem. I don’t feel like I can win this way,” Alpha admitted.

”Heh… finally figured it out? That’s right! There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell of you people beating me!” Nigotori laughed.

”I didn’t say I could win, but I don’t plan on losing, either,” Alpha replied.

”You are so incredibly irritating! If you can’t win, you’ve already lost!” Nigotori screamed.

I knew exactly what Alpha meant. He’d completely read her movements, so she couldn’t touch him, but his attacks weren’t doing enough damage to end it. It was a total stalemate. But there was also the issue of Leki-chan’s attacks being useless. Leki-chan wasn’t off today. For Nigotori to stop a Barghest’s strike with one hand was fundamentally broken. There had to be a reason—something involving Leki-chan, Nigotori, or both.

”Leki-chan, sorry to bother you, but can I see your Status Window?” I asked.

”Status Window? Sure, but why?” Leki-chan asked.

 ”I’ve got a hunch. Something’s not clicking,” I replied.

”If you say so,” Leki-chan said.

Leki-chan never really cared much for her own stats, so she gave me the green light without a second thought. I scanned the list. There it was. It had to be this Skill.

 ”Leki-chan, this Unique Skill…” I began.

”Oh, Papa gave me that one,” Leki-chan explained.

Papa being the Master. He’d given it to her out of love, no doubt, but I don’t think he realized it would backfire like this. Wait… if that’s the case, we have a way out.

”Quick question, Leki. Have you ever actually used this?” I asked.

”Nope. I never needed to before, and besides, sorcery stuff is way too complicated,” Leki-chan replied.

What a waste. Though, to be fair, she usually doesn’t need it. Her other Unique Skill fits her perfectly—it’s the same one the Master uses.

 ”Okay… Leki-chan, I need you to activate this Skill. If you do, I guarantee—no, I promise—you’ll win,” I said.

”Got it! It’s my first time, though, so I might need a second to charge it up,” Leki-chan said.

”That’s fine. Alpha, buy us some time!” I shouted.

”I assume you have a certain-victory plan. Understood,” Alpha replied.

”A master plan? Don’t make me laugh!” Nigotori barked. “You think you can beat me? I am invincible right now!”

Nigotori was riding high on her own ego. That’s usually when things go south. Even if we were classmates once, she’s the enemy now—and honestly, she’s barely the same person.

”How much time do you need?” Alpha asked.

”Give me thirty seconds!” I shouted.

”As you wish, Lady Leki,” Alpha said.

”Ugh, I’m never getting used to being called that…” Leki-chan muttered.

Leki-chan blushed. I guess being the Master’s young lady was still a bit embarrassing for her. Anyway, time to join the fray. First, I enchanted Alpha’s white gloves. Just a basic power boost, but it would add some sting. The butler suit… nah, he didn’t need a defense buff. Nigotori wasn’t even coming close to hitting him. It was mesmerizing to watch him dodge everything by a hair’s breadth.

”Now then, allow me to show off a little trick of my own. Master, I’m borrowing this one… Finger Flare Burst!” I shouted.

Five intense orbs of flame erupted from my fingertips. I’d spent every spare moment practicing this spell because I wanted to master it so badly. When the Master found out I’d finally pulled it off, he was so thrilled he gave me a special reward. (What kind of reward? Sex, obviously.) Alpha sensed the mana and leaped back instantly. Nigotori, tunnel-visioned on Alpha, noticed the attack too late.

 ”Wait, what—? AHHH!” Nigotori screamed.

She took all five fireballs point-blank. The flash and impact were perfect, but man, it drained my MP fast. I made sure not to say, ‘Is it over?’ because I knew better than to trip that flag. Even so…

”Kagaya… you little bitch! You actually burned me!” Nigotori screamed.

Her face was scorched. As I thought, even at full power, I could only do so much. I’m an Apostle too, even if the God I serve is different. Still, I successfully drew her attention.

”Oh? Ignoring me now?” Alpha taunted.

”SHUT UP! God, you’re like a persistent gnat!” Nigotori shouted.

Alpha intercepted her, driving another palm strike—Penetrating Force—right into her gut. It didn’t do massive damage, but those internal shocks were going to catch up to her legs soon.

”Just die already! Stop buzzing around and die!” Nigotori yelled.

She was losing her cool, swinging wildly. She was playing right into our hands. And then… thirty seconds were up.

”Ready or not! Here it comes… God Bless!” Leki-chan shouted.

Thump!

Leki-chan’s mana pressure spiked through the roof. A visible aura of fighting spirit erupted from her, shaking the very air. When I checked her Status Window, she had two Unique Skills. One was Wrath Impact, and the other was Subjugated Raguel… which had been reforged from Protection of Raguel. It started as a blessing of the Seven Archangels, the same kind Honoka-san and Hina-san have, but now it had been made subservient to Leki-chan.

It grants specialized ‘Angel-Slaying’ Water and Holy magic, plus a miracle called God Bless. In short, it’s a buff. But the scale of it is insane. It adds 30% of the parameters of the God she serves—and 30% of every other Apostle on the field—directly to her own stats. The Master’s parameters are already broken beyond recognition. Leki-chan, as his Kin, already gets 10% of his stats as a base. But now? Adding 30% from the Master plus 30% from all of us…

”Pffft!” I actually choked. The numbers on her Status Window were just stupid.

 ”Whoa! I feel… incredible!” Leki-chan shouted.

”W-What is this…? Why does a brat like you have that power?!” Nigotori screamed.

Nigotori clearly had a similar Skill, but Leki-chan’s version was on a completely different level.

”Here I go! Direct from Papa… Wrath Impact!” Leki-chan shouted.

”Like hell you will!” Nigotori screamed.

Just like before, Nigotori tried to catch the strike with her left palm. This time, Leki-chan’s fist pulverized Nigotori’s arm instantly, and the force didn’t stop until it shattered her entire body. Bits of Nigotori’s flesh scattered everywhere.

 Wow… graphic.

But more importantly… “Leki-chan, for your victory line, say this: (Whisper whisper)…”

”Huh? Okay! Leki’s STR is 530,000!” Leki-chan shouted.

 Seriously, what a perfect coincidence.

 Summary:

Alpha and Leki engage the Apostle Nigotori Maki in a brutal confrontation. Alpha uses his superior technique and boxing skills to humiliate Nigotori, revealing her face and identity. Mashiro discovers a loophole in Leki’s skills, enabling her to activate ‘God Bless’ and exponentially increase her power to an unstoppable level.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Alpha mentions being taught by ‘The Madam,’ hinting at a powerful female figure in the Master’s inner circle with martial arts expertise.

 - The failure of ‘Penetrating Force’ to significantly damage Nigotori suggests she possesses a passive defensive skill or unique physiological trait.

 - Leki’s new skill, ‘Subjugated Raguel,’ mirrors the Archangel protections of other characters but highlights her dominance over the divine power source

 —

 Character Insight:

Alpha’s role as a protective and highly capable butler is reinforced through his cool-headed combat. Leki’s relationship with the Master is shown through her immense trust in the skills he gave her, while Mashiro acts as the tactical brains of the duo.
