Volume 5 Chapter 12 Recruitment
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
It had been a long day, but I finally made it back.
The night before had been spent with Dietlinde-san. Recalling the soft expression she finally showed me, I couldn’t help but look forward to seeing how she might melt in bed. I really wanted to try stroking that fluffy hair of hers, too.
Today, I put my heart into earning out in the dungeon again. The morning was dedicated to training Liese and Camilla on the third floor. We mostly faced Sheep, which posed no real problem. In fact, because Goblins and Crawlers were mixed in, it felt easier than when I was dealing with Kobolds on the third floor. (It’ll probably be better experience to have them face Crows and Sheep on the fourth floor.)
”Training here isn’t doing much for you anymore,” I said. “We should move to the fourth floor and start hunting Crows.”
”Understood,” Liese replied.
”Yes, sir!” Camilla chirped.
Once we moved to the fourth floor, they struggled. It wasn’t just a matter of Ability scores; it was their first time dealing with flying types. Crows have low VIT, so they go down in one hit if you connect, but their AGI is high and they are incredibly difficult to pin down. If Liese were fighting solo, I might have let her struggle through it, but with Camilla there, they needed to learn to fight as a party.
”Camilla, can you time your Illusion Magic to hit just as the Crow dives?” I asked.
”I’ll try!” Camilla said.
”Liese, the moment she succeeds, the Crow is going to freeze. That’s your window. Take it,” I directed.
”Understood,” said Liese.
The success rate wasn’t perfect, but they started to get the hang of it. I gave them both a pat on the head to praise them. Camilla looked overjoyed while Liese looked quietly proud; they were both adorable. We kept at it through the morning before heading back to the rented house for lunch.
Since we had moved, we decided to handle our own meals. I probably could have just bought something quick, but I wanted to grill some meat as a reward for Liese. I pulled from our stock-Minotaur and Orc General, just as I’d promised-and paired it with some fresh vegetables.
”Nom, nom, nom…”
After the “thanks for the food,” Liese began wolfing it down in total silence. Her tail was thwacking against the floor with such violence I worried the chair might actually break. Based on her reaction, the flavor profile seemed to go Boar, then Orc, with Orc General being the absolute peak. Since we were alone, Camilla climbed onto my lap and ate with a blissful smile. It made it a bit awkward for me to reach my own plate, but I had to keep her in a good mood.
”There’s a good girl, Camilla! Who’s a good girl?” I teased, fussing over her like one of those eccentric animal show hosts. She was absolutely thrilled. (Well, if she’s happy, I’m happy.)

The afternoon was spent back on the sixteenth floor, grinding for gold and meat just like yesterday. It was a methodical process. I’d been cut short yesterday by the house viewing, but today I could really put in the hours. The recommended level here is 44, and at level 68, I could win on Ability scores alone. Combined with skills like Concealment and Surprise Attack for guaranteed preemptive criticals, the hunting was risk-free. I mixed it up with Golems, Skeleton Generals, and Guard Ants to keep from getting bored-they all fetch a decent price, anyway. I skipped the Vampire Bats; they’re a nuisance with no payoff. They’ll probably be the first to get cut in the next Dungeon Upheaval¹.
My priority is saving for the house, but eventually, I want to hit the thirteenth floor. The Killer Bee nests have honey, and sweets are a rare, expensive luxury here. I bet the other Transferee girls are starving for some sugar. I’ll bring some back for the Gale Party, Liese, Camilla, Clarissa-san, and Dietlinde-san. Maybe Mercedes and Ilse, too. (Heh… they’ll be powerless before the magic of sweets!)
I ended up over-hunting. In a party, we used to bag twenty a day; today, I took down fifty. Going solo meant I didn’t have to hold back, and combat took less than a second per monster. Most of my time was just spent walking. (Actually, yesterday’s thirty was pushing it, too. Well, what’s done is done. I’ll just claim I got lucky. But if I keep this up, I’ll be exposed. I need to dial it back and spend the extra time training Liese and Camilla.)
I stopped by the Guild to drop off the loot and had Dietlinde-san process the request at her counter.
”There is a letter for you, Daisuke-san,” she said.
”Thanks,” I replied.
Without phones, letters were the only way to coordinate with Ines or the other girls. I realized I still needed to tell everyone I’d moved. I checked the sender: Boris. (Who? Never heard of him.) The name sounded Imperial. He was probably the guy Rei-san had been so livid about. The letter was written in overly polite language, essentially requesting a meeting in a private Guild room because he “had something to discuss.” He’d specified tomorrow afternoon without even asking if I was free. (Polite on the surface, but a total prick underneath. This is going to be a waste of time.)

The next morning, I focused on power-leveling Liese and Camilla on the eleventh floor. It went smoothly, and by the afternoon, I did a quick hunt on the sixteenth floor before heading to the Guild for the meeting. I made sure Liese and the girls weren’t with me.
I waited in the reserved room until an elderly Beastman with a mustache walked in. He was about five-foot-three-quite small, though not in a cute way.
”Good day. You are Daisuke-dono, quite so? I am Boris, representing the Souveraineté Empire.” he said.
”Hello. I’m Daisuke,” I replied.
He was all smiles and polite phrasing, but his eyes were cold. My Sense Malice was screaming at me. (Verdict: Villain. I want to go home.) Since he didn’t use a title for himself, he likely wasn’t a noble.
”Thank you for your time. I want Daisuke-dono to understand the sheer magnificence of our Empire. It is my hope that you will become a glorious member of our nation and help us flourish, quite so,” he continued.
”Is that right?” I said. I figured he was just a fanatic. Even if I had no intention of going, there was no need to start a fight with the Empire.
”I have looked into your record. A B-Rank adventurer in just one year-truly impressive. And I heard of your victory in the duel. Even if you aren’t quite on the level of the Hero, it is only natural for one who holds the blessings of the Green God. Quite so,” Boris said.
”I’m grateful for the luck I’ve had,” I replied.
”If you come to the Empire, I can promise you a suitable position. Indeed,” he said.
”And what exactly is a ‘suitable position’?” I asked. It felt like he was baiting a trap.
”Well, that depends on your Class, Skills, and level. If you join the military, I can promise a platoon command. If you have a production Class, you’d lead a development team. Of course, with hard work, even noble status isn’t out of the question. Quite so,” Boris explained.
”I see,” I said. He was basically fishing for my stats. I had zero intention of disclosing them.
”The Empire is a meritocracy. A B-Rank talent like yourself would receive preferential treatment-housing in the noble district, tax exemptions, even low-interest loans for business. Quite so,” he pitched.
”Hah,” I muttered. It sounded okay on paper, but I wasn’t buying it.
”Others claim the Empire is too cold, but the summers are delightful. And as for the ‘food shortages’ people criticize… well, those with power never have to worry about such things. Indeed,” Boris said.
(In other words, if you’re weak, you starve.)
”Being an adventurer is so unstable, is it not? No support, constant risk. In the Imperial Army, you would have the full backing of the state,” Boris said. He was already talking as if I’d enlisted. I decided to ignore it rather than argue.
”So, what do you think? I assume you’re ready to join us. Any concerns? Quite so,” he asked.
”Just one,” I said. “Why wait a year to recruit me?”
”Summoned people don’t always adapt. Blessings are useless if the holder doesn’t level up. We waited a year to see if you could actually survive and thrive in this world. Indeed,” Boris answered.

(That makes sense. If you can’t hack it as an adventurer, you’re useless to the military.)
”I appreciate the offer,” I said. “But I have no intention of leaving this place.”
”Is that because of your frequent visits to the brothel?” Boris asked.
I wasn’t exactly hiding it, so I wasn’t surprised he knew. “That’s not it,” I said.
”The Empire has no shortage of women. You have slaves, but our slave traders can provide you with Succubus types that would put any human to shame. Indeed,” Boris countered. “I assume you only bought that Gray Dragonewt because she was cheap, but buying junk is just a waste of coin. Quite so.”
”Excuse me?” I said.
Boris shook his head dismissively. He didn’t know a thing about Liese. My anger flared, and I felt my magic power begin to leak into the room.
(Requirements met. Acquired Skill: Intimidation.)
”Boris-san, you can think whatever you want, but I will not tolerate you insulting that girl.”
”She is a Gray Dragonewt-a creature forsaken by the gods. In the Empire, we are permitted to discard such useless things. Indeed,” Boris sneered.
(Requirements met. Intimidation level has risen to 2.)
”…We’re done here. Get lost,” I said.
”Wha- You! You bastard! Don’t you dare walk away! My talk is not finished!” Boris barked. His polite mask shattered instantly.
”I’ve given you my answer. Anything more is a waste of my time. Please leave,” I said, standing up.
”You’ll never get an offer this good again! Don’t come crawling back to me when you finally realize how stupid you’ve been!” Boris screamed.
”If you say so,” I replied. I didn’t care anymore.
”Useless! Just like the Hero-you people from the other world are all worthless! You can’t even grasp the glory of the Empire!” Boris kicked his chair aside and stomped out of the room.
(To him, ‘useful’ just means being a mindless yes-man. As if any modern person would sign up for that.)
I wondered if he’d get in trouble for failing to recruit me twice in a row. Not that I gave a damn.

Summary:
Daisuke balances domestic life and dungeon grinding before facing an unwelcome recruitment attempt from the Souveraineté Empire. The encounter turns hostile when the Imperial representative, Boris, insults Daisuke’s dragonewt subordinate, Liese. This confrontation triggers the acquisition and leveling of a new ‘Intimidation’ skill, signaling Daisuke’s growing power and protective nature.
—
Trivia:
- The mention of ‘Dungeon Upheaval’ suggests a looming global or local event that reshapes the dungeon’s inhabitants.
- Boris mentions the ‘current Hero’ being useless, hinting at friction between the Empire and the summoned Hero.
- The honey from Killer Bee nests is noted as a strategic item for future social maneuvering with the transferee girls.
- Daisuke’s magic ‘leaking’ due to anger indicates that his emotional state now has tangible physical effects on his surroundings
—
Character Insight:
Daisuke’s bond with his slaves, Liese and Camilla, has shifted from mere ownership to genuine care and protection. He is willing to forfeit a potentially lucrative Imperial position to defend Liese’s dignity. Boris, meanwhile, serves as a foil to the local Guild staff, showing the cold, transactional, and discriminatory nature of the Empire.
—
Lore And Worldbuilding Context:
The Souveraineté Empire is depicted as a harsh meritocracy that openly practices discrimination against ‘forsaken’ races like Gray Dragonewts. It also follows a strategy of observing transferees for a year to gauge their adaptability before attempting recruitment.
—
TL Notes:
The repetition of ‘ハイ’ (Hai) by Boris is retained alongside English fillers to emphasize his patronizing verbal tic. The transition from ‘Indeed’ to ‘キサマ’ shows the breakdown of his diplomatic facade.

Glossary:
Notes:
• Dietlinde – Dietlinde, a slender sheep-beastwoman with long, fluffy white curls, tiny spiraling horns, and subtle beast ears, serves as the weary yet composed receptionist at the Maultasche Royal Capital Adventurer’s Guild. A former orphan with no social backing, she battles deep self-disparagement despite her quiet elegance and clerical competence. Her low-heel clicks echo through the halls as she endures the Dungeon Upheaval’s strain, masking exhaustion with professional grace. Only with Daisuke does her reserved expression soften—his quiet care, recovery magic, and thoughtful gifts offer her rare solace, deepening her unspoken affection. She soothes herself with calming scents and longs for unattainable cosmetics, her fragile beauty hidden beneath duty’s weight.
• Camilla – 14‑year‑old fox‑type beastkin, ~140 cm, thin, fluffy tail, twitching ears, wearing accessories. Formerly Gerta’s slave, rescued after a wolf attack and dungeon upheaval, revived and now a porter‑illusionist (Illusion & Fire, high INT/MND). Deeply attached to Daisuke, calls him “Master,” seeks his scent, fears abandonment, and clings to his affection. Delicate, socially anxious, easily pleased, she cleans their new home and follows him everywhere.
• Liese – Dragonewt girl, 170 cm, grey-blue hair, thick horns, grey scales on neck and limbs, thin chest, tail that thumps when excited. Slave and loyal vanguard of Daisuke, former Grünewald guild trainee (Level 15), spear-user, disciplined, strict etiquette, discriminated by Imperials. Greets him formally, cleans house with Camilla, tail reflects her emotions.
• Clarissa – Early‑20s librarian with soft, graceful features, blonde shoulder‑length hair, sparkling eyes and warm natural charm; she radiates a gentle older‑sister aura, curvy figure and large breasts, and offers a slightly pressuring smile when discussing makeup. A glamorous merchant’s daughter, long‑haired and rose‑scented, knows geography well, casually helps Daisuke, survived many failed engagements, and is now his associate after their recent date.
• Mercedes – Brown semi-long hair, white frilled one-piece, Elegant and Fair Knight—high-ranking noble, Home Secretary of Maultasche Kingdom, mother of Patrizia, and spirited Royal Knight who meditates, teaches shield techniques, leads parties, and views dungeons as divine trials; wields elite combat and destruction magic, despises goblins/orcs, and is a beautiful but disappointing castle acquaintance who feeds Daisuke Hero Party intel while desperately seeking a boyfriend among Reincarnators—often rejected. Friend of Daisuke, energetic yet currently stressed by the Hero Party incident.
• Ilse – Sixteen-year-old tiger-type Beastman archer with pointed ears, a thick tail, and a petite, youthful frame—large-breasted yet soft-skinned, with a cute face prone to pouting. Former bandit, now transitioning from Elmer’s ownership to Daisuke’s, she treats their slave dynamic as a source of “rewards,” fainting at climax. Blunt, unreserved, and cheeky-stubborn, she’s sharp-tongued but diligent, secretly the protagonist’s lover. In the brothel, she’s mocked as a “lightweight” or “small fry” for basic training, yet her archery skill (Lv3) and serious heart belie her teasing exterior.
• Daisuke – Mid‑40s Japanese reincarnated adventurer, B‑Rank, high AGI/DEX, wearing a ten‑year‑old watch and Radiant Iron gear. Level 68 transferee blessed by the Green God, uses Earth and Wind magic, Insight skill and Silent Field. Lives in a Beunemünde rental house, manages slaves, owns Ilse, mentors Liese, Camilla, Rin, dates Ines, pursues Regina at Daydream, and seeks Dietlinde.
• Boris – Representative of the Souveraineté Empire. Elderly Beastman with a mustache. Approximately 160cm tall. Arrogant and views adventurers as inferior.
• Ines – 170 cm tall with long green hair, a voluptuous build featuring a large bust, and blue eyes, she exudes a goddess-like smile that masks deep shyness and low self-esteem. As the middle child of five and leader of the Gale Party, she wears a feminine blend of heavy armor and a college-girl aesthetic—often a white short-sleeved blouse with a black long skirt on dates with Daisuke, her first girlfriend and fellow member, to whom she’s deeply affectionate and owes a professional debt. A D-Rank Level 21+ wind-enhanced swordsman, she speaks formally with “sumanai,” drinks lightly for safety, and overheats at praise, blushing and pouting easily. Innocent, naive, fiercely loyal, her tender vulnerability contrasts her warrior gravitas, and her figure carries notable “destructive power”—both in combat and in affection.
• Rei – 155 cm tall, standard‑built member of the Working Women Party with twin‑tails, thick chest armor and a bright, high‑energy aura. She wields Rainbow Raiment to brighten allies, is a former corporate employee and hobbyist cosplayer known for teasing comedy routines and dreaming of a maid café. Now a Japanese transferee and leader of ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’, she runs a maid café, received a cosmetics set from Daisuke, and is a close friend and sought‑after advisor for the protagonist.
• Aya – Standing 165 cm tall, slender with long hair and a flat chest, she wears simple, armor‑free attire — clean, prudent, serious. An apprentice alchemist and former pharmacist, she serves the Working Women Party and the Leemans Party, handling store‑location data. A Yamato Nadeshiko transferee, she appears in the protagonist’s delusions as his lover.
• Rin – Tall, large‑breasted B‑rank adventurer with long shaggy hair and thick chest armor, exuding a cool‑beauty façade. Quiet and blunt, she uses ice magic for first aid, shields Camilla, feels indebted to a rescued beast‑man child, dominates Daisuke’s group, belongs to “Yamato Nadeshiko”, and is sensitive to slave mistreatment.
