Volume 5 Chapter 21 Grand Opening Celebration (Cat)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The following day was Orange Day¹. I had been sitting on the promise to get Ines and Dietlinde-san some makeup tips, so I finally checked in with Rei yesterday. Unfortunately, she’s completely swamped having just launched the Maid Cafe, so she had to take a rain check. “I really wanted to give them a total makeover myself!~☆” she said, looking a bit miffed, but it just goes to show how busy she actually is.
Because of that, I decided to go with my plan B and ask Misaki-san. I sent off a letter to book an appointment and headed over to make the request. My routine until evening was the usual: dungeon diving to grind levels for the three girls and get some combat training in.
Afterward, I hit the sixteenth floor solo for some hunting before heading home to pick the three of them up. Camilla and Ilse were eager to come along from the start, but I decided to bring Liese today too. (She can’t exactly clear her head if she’s stuck house-sitting all the time.)
”Good evening. Thanks for making time for us,” I said.
”Good evening, Daisuke-san,” Misaki-san replied.
Misaki-san and I aren’t exactly close yet. We can chat casually without an issue, but a real relationship is still way off the table. Still, she’s naturally laid-back, so she greeted us with a beaming smile. She wasn’t quite in pajamas, but her outfit was relaxed enough that her ample chest swayed noticeably. I had to fight the urge to let my eyes get sucked right in.
”So this must be Ilse-chan. And Liese-chan, Camilla-chan, good evening to you too,” Misaki-san said.
”C’mon girls, say hello,” I urged.
”I am Ilse. I look forward to working with you,” Ilse said.
”Good evening, Misaki-sama,” said Liese.
”Good evening…” Camilla muttered.
Since it was Ilse’s first time, she used her formal public voice, while Liese and Camilla were more casual since they’d met before. Camilla, however, was still acting stiff. She let go of my hand to bow, but the second she was done, she slid her hand right back into mine. Misaki-san must have heard about Ilse from Yumiko-san, but she didn’t seem to mind the girl’s background at all. (Is she just s*xually liberated? No, she doesn’t really give off that vibe. She’s probably just big-hearted.)
”All three of you are so adorable. Liese-chan is already taller than me, so that’s a no-go, but I just want to squeeze Camilla-chan and Ilse-chan to death!” Misaki-san squealed.
”Ilse, why don’t you let her give you a hug? It’ll be relaxing, I bet. Camilla, you’re up next,” I suggested.
”Oh! …Yes, Master,” Ilse replied.
”Thanks so much. Ilse-chan, you can just act like you normally do,” Misaki-san said.
Ilse let out a typical “Master” out of habit before correcting herself. Misaki-san didn’t seem to care, so I let it slide this time, but I really need to make her practice her public persona more.
”Master… me too?” Camilla asked.
”Yeah. As you can see, Misaki-san is a kind big sister type. She won’t pick on you, so just relax,” I said.
”Okay… I understand,” Camilla whispered.
”Alright, Ilse-chan, come here,” Misaki-san called.
I watched as Ilse went first. Seeing her get pulled into Misaki-san’s massive chest… man, I’m jealous.
”Ilse-chan is just so precious,” Misaki-san cooed.
”Whoa… this is…” Ilse gasped.
”How is it?” I asked.
”…It’s soft. It’s a soothing softness, just like Daisuke said,” Ilse murmured.
Apparently taking a liking to Misaki-san’s breasts, Ilse actually started hugging back. She buried her face right in that cleavage. (Seriously, that’s scandalous. Swap with me…)
”Thank you, Misaki-sama!” Ilse cried.
”Oh, don’t mention it. And really, you don’t need to use ‘Sama’ with me,” Misaki-san laughed.
”Got it, Misaki-san!” Ilse shouted.
”Hehe, Ilse-chan is so full of energy. I love it,” Misaki-san said.
”Alright, Camilla, your turn. Go on,” I prompted.
”Yes,” Camilla said.
A clearly nervous Camilla approached, and Misaki-san pulled her into a soft embrace.
”Camilla? How does it feel?” I asked.
”…Even though you’re different, you remind me of my mother,” Camilla admitted.
”Hehe, let’s stick to ‘Big Sister Misaki,’ okay?” Misaki-san teased.
Misaki-san is practically radiating maternal energy, but it seems being treated like an actual mom is a bit of a buzzkill for her.
”Yes, Big Sister Misaki. Thank you,” Camilla said.
”You’re very welcome,” Misaki-san replied.
Liese was the only one left out of the loop, so I figured I’d step in. I decided a headpat would do the trick—simple, but effective.
”Liese, come here,” I said.
”Yes. …Ah,” Liese exhaled.
The other two are cute in a more traditional sense, but Liese is a hard worker with a certain dignified air. Just calling her “cute” doesn’t feel like enough.
”You’re always giving it your all, Liese. I’m always watching, you know,” I told her.
”…Thank you,” Liese whispered.
Liese’s face flushed slightly as she looked up at me with pride. Her tail wasn’t wagging uncontrollably, but it was swaying rhythmically, showing she was in a great mood.
”Master…” Camilla started.
”Daisuke, me too!” Ilse chimed in.
”Yeah, yeah, I haven’t forgotten you,” I said.
As I petted Liese, Camilla gave me those puppy dog eyes and Ilse just demanded it outright. I gave them both a good head-rub to keep everyone happy.
”Ufufu, you all get along so well,” Misaki-san observed.
”Yeah, fortunately…” I replied.
After that, I brought up the makeup lessons, and she happily agreed to help.
”I’m sorry for basically forcing you into this as a repayment for the shop help,” I said.
”No, not at all. I was actually worried about how to pay you back, so your proposal really saved me,” Misaki-san smiled.
After saying goodbye to the ever-smiling Misaki-san, we headed home. I’ll have to check the schedules with the Gale Party and Dietlinde-san to finalize the dates later.

Tonight was my scheduled time with Regina-san at Daydream (BSS)², so I dropped the girls off and headed back out.
Lately, our sessions had been nothing but lovey-dovey missionary, so we decided to mix it up with some standing-back and a bit of the “carried” position³.
Regina-san seemed to love all of it, though she did mention that being carried was almost too intense for her.
(If I still had my original-sized equipment, it probably wouldn’t be such a struggle for her…)

The next day: Yellow Day. The grand opening of Manami-san’s Cat Cafe. Since she has to close earlier than Rei’s place to make sure the cats don’t get stressed out, she’d mentioned that an earlier visit would be best. That meant I only had the morning free, so I aimed to get there by 10:00 AM. I had lunch with Mercedes at noon, the library in the afternoon, and a date with the Gale Party in the evening.
Camilla, Ilse, and Liese were staying home. I’m taking Camilla to the library later, but for the morning, I had her focusing on leveling up her Illusion and Fire Magic skills. She’s still as clingy as ever, but lately, she’s been able to handle being away from me for half a day without a meltdown. Ilse was probably going to sleep in before training, and Liese… well, Liese is probably training all day. I wonder if I should make her take a break? But she’s so motivated I’d hate to throw cold water on her. I’ll just have to keep a close eye on her to make sure she doesn’t overdo it.
Just like I did for Rei, I sent a grand opening flower wreath to Manami-san’s cafe. The Yamato Nadeshiko girls did the same. Between the two, the place was really standing out. I could see plenty of customers inside from the street, so the advertising definitely worked. Behind the shop, there was a fenced-off area that looked like a small paddock where the combat familiars Manami-san used in the dungeon were lounging in the shade. They’re way too big to have inside a cat cafe—and honestly, they look a bit too intimidating—so this was probably the only option. Once you get used to them they’re actually pretty cute; maybe a “beast cafe” is a viable niche? Or maybe that just makes people too relaxed around monsters.
By the way, familiars have to be registered with the Guild and clearly marked with collars. I wonder how that works for slimes or amorphous monsters? Normal slimes are weak enough to be a non-issue, but higher-tier ones like Acid or Venom Slimes could cause a real disaster if they wandered into the city. I’ll have to look into that. I’ve been getting interested in taming lately—it’d be fun to try and breed the ultimate slime or something. It might even be good for Camilla’s development.
The shop itself had a classic cafe vibe. The sign out front said “Cat & Smile” alongside a drawing of a cat. I wonder if Manami-san drew that herself?
”Welcome—oh, Daisuke-san?” Manami-san asked.
”Hey. Is now a bad time?” I asked.
”No, things have finally settled down a bit. Come this way,” Manami-san said.
”Thanks,” I replied.
The interior was split between the cafe area and a play area. She led me to a table. In the play area, cats were everywhere, and people of all ages were busy doting on them. It looked like she’d managed to hire a few staff members too. The menu was straightforward—no gimmicks, just solid, orthodox cafe food. The drink list was the same. It was very Manami-san—practical and sincere.
”Decided on something?” Manami-san asked.
”Yeah, I’ll go with the omurice and a grapefruit juice,” I said.
”Coming right up. Just a moment,” Manami-san said.
Manami-san has this calm, mature aura that just makes it easy to talk to her. She used to be a corporate drone in her past life, but her gentle smile is genuinely charming. She’s actually surprisingly well-suited for the service industry. After a bit, she brought out my food. Thinking about it, Rei’s cafe didn’t have omurice on the menu. (I bet she left it off on purpose because she knew people would expect her to do that whole “make it delicious” routine. I’ll have to ask her later.)
”Thanks for coming by. And really, you didn’t have to go all out with the flowers,” Manami-san said.
”Don’t worry about it. We’re from the same world—it’s the least I could do for a friend,” I replied.
Once I finished my meal, Manami-san came over and sat across from me to chat. It was our first time talking one-on-one, which usually would’ve made me nervous, but her vibe just doesn’t allow for that.
”This is the first time we’ve really just talked, isn’t it?” Manami-san asked.
”It is. …Actually, I’ve been meaning to say this, but you were older than me back home, weren’t you, Daisuke-san? You can just call me Manami. You don’t need to be so formal with your speech, either,” Manami-san suggested.
”Uh, thanks, Manami. Honestly, we’re basically the same age in this world, so let’s just not worry about who’s the senior here,” I said.
”Hehe, I suppose you’re right,” Manami laughed.
Manami looked absolutely radiant when she laughed. It was obvious she was happy with her life here. I figured I’d try to bridge the gap and get to know her better.
”What was your life like back in the old world?” I asked.
”I think I mentioned I did general office work. I was always buried in my daily tasks. I could never keep a boyfriend—even if I found one, it never lasted. I’m a bit clumsy that way; once I focus on work, I tend to neglect everything else,” Manami admitted.
I had a feeling that was the case. Her slightly melancholic expression was attractive in its own way, but I didn’t want to bring the mood down. Time to pivot.
”I get that. I was pushing forty⁴ and single, so I’d pretty much given up on the idea of marriage entirely,” I said.
”Oh? For someone who gave up, I heard you managed to find a girlfriend here,” Manami teased.
Hina must have leaked the info about Ines. (I doubt Hina told her directly; Nanami probably pried it out of Hina and then blabbed.)
”Yeah, her name’s Ines,” I said.
”Wait, which one was Ines-san again?” Manami asked.
”She was from the party that first mentored us—the one about my height. We started dating as a reward for me saving her from a teleport trap, and we officially became a couple a while back. You must have met her once before you retired,” I explained.
”Ah, right, I remember now. She’s a very sharp, beautiful woman. Regardless of how things were back home, it sounds like you’re having a very fulfilling time here. I’m jealous. I spent my first year just trying to survive, and now I’m too busy for a relationship,” Manami said.
Damn, I made her look sad again. Better lighten the mood with some banter.
”Hey, you can have multiple wives in this world. If you’re up for it, Manami, you could always join us,” I joked.
”Oh, thank you. Well, if it looks like I’m going to be an old maid forever, I’ll keep that in mind,” Manami laughed.
She was clearly taking it as a joke, but I was at least fifty percent serious. (Even if it’s an impossible ask right now.)
”Oh, you said it! I’ll be coming to sweep you off your feet, so just you wait,” I said.
”Hehe. Well, if I find a boyfriend on my own, the deal’s off,” Manami teased.
”I’ll be disappointed, but I’ll still congratulate you,” I said.
Manami probably thinks she has another ten years to figure things out, but unfortunately, this world only has about two years left in it. I don’t plan on letting this drag on—I need to start coming here more often.
”You really love cats, don’t you? How are you with other animals?” I asked.
”I like most of them, though I can’t stand snakes. On that note, if we’re talking about cats in a fantasy world, there are Cait Siths, right? I wonder if they can be tamed?” Manami asked.
”I don’t see why not. If I find one, I’ll catch it and give it to you as a gift,” I promised.
”I’ll be looking forward to that! I’m counting on you,” Manami said.
She gave me a much better smile for that than she did for my marriage proposal. I guess I’ve still got a long way to go, but man… that’s frustrating.
