Chapter 42 Contract
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Compared to Akeno Himejima, who looked as if she wanted to vanish into the floorboards, Aki looked exactly like a scumbag basking in a post-coital glow. Not only did he lack a shred of embarrassment at being caught red-handed, he looked as if he were ready to invite Rias and Koneko to join in.
Unfortunately, that was just wishful thinking. Aki knew his current strength; if he actually voiced that thought, he’d likely be strung up and beaten within an inch of his life. Since he refused to be flustered, the burden of the awkward silence fell entirely on Rias and her companions.
Akeno finally managed to compose her breathing, though she remained hunched over in a state of self-imposed isolation. Clad in nothing but ultra-thin black stockings, her silky ponytail draped down to her waist, partially veiling the elegant curve of her ivory back.
”Aki-kun… turn around,” Akeno commanded softly. She looked up, her face flushed with a crimson hue that softened her usual dominant edge.
Aki quirked an eyebrow and began to protest, “I mean, I’ve already seen everyth—”
”Aki-kun… good boys listen to what they’re told, okay?” Akeno interrupted with a tiny, needle-sharp smile. Her tone was gentle, but to Aki’s ears, it sounded exactly like a devil’s whisper.
Aki gave a sheepish laugh and took several steps back, decisively folding. “Alright, alright. I’m turning.” He knew better than to push; if he kept it up, he doubted he’d be able to walk out of the clubroom on his own two feet.
Once she was certain Aki was facing the wall, Akeno slowly stood up. She lifted a slender foot and peeled off her inside-out panties. Catching sight of the damp spot at the center, she bit her lip in a wave of frustrated embarrassment.
”Buchou, I’m going to the shower first,” Akeno called out, her voice taut. “Could you bring me some fresh underwear?” Feeling the lingering, sticky slickness on her thighs, she hurried toward the bathroom.
Rias watched her go, then turned her attention back to the “crime scene.” She let out a small, amused sigh. The speed of their progress had been unexpected, but she could tell Akeno had been a willing participant. If her friend hadn’t felt anything for Aki, she would have objected the moment the plan was first proposed.
Choosing to exercise a bit of selective amnesia¹
Aki turned around, his clothes a mess and his eyes holding a trace of melancholy. Stripped of his usual well-behaved persona, he had a bit of a “bad boy” charm about him. He sat down obediently, but “Little Aki” was another story. Even now, it was still throwing a tantrum, forcing his black Academy trousers into a distinct, rigid tent shape.
Rias kept her eyes fixed on his face, opting for selective blindness. Koneko, however, had produced a pink popsicle from somewhere. She licked it slowly, her eyes darting curiously toward the bulge in his lap. As a Nekomata, her feline instincts were naturally drawn to anything that smelled of salt and musk.
”Aki-kun, Akeno said you agreed to the deal. Is it true?” Rias asked, her voice turning professional.
”Yeah,” Aki nodded with a frown. He just wanted to get this over with so he could go home and let the Takamine sisters soothe his frustrations.
”Aki-kun, are you in pain?” Rias asked, noticing his strained expression.
Aki stared intensely at the “two big rabbits”²
Rias gave an apologetic smile. “Would you like to go to the shower and find Akeno? You could continue what you were doing… or maybe find another way to resolve it?”
Aki rolled his eyes. “Buchou, if you want me to leave here in a body bag, just say so. If you’d come back a few seconds later, or just watched quietly, we wouldn’t have any problems.”
”I didn’t do it on purpose!” Rias protested, her face reddening. She was a seventeen-year-old High-Class Devil; she’d never seen a live performance like that before. It had been a pure reflex to speak up.
Aki let out a sharp breath. “Are we doing the reincarnation now? If not, I’m going home.”
”We’ll do it now,” Rias declared, wanting to settle the matter before things got any more chaotic. She pulled out a pitch-black Evil Piece—a Rook.
Her crimson wings unfurled, and Mana began to boil in the air. As a glowing pentagram manifested beneath Aki’s feet, she pressed the piece against his chest. “Accept this, Aki-kun.”
The piece began to sink into his body, vanishing inch by inch. As the final edge disappeared, Rias broke into a joyful smile. “Aki-kun, from now on, we—”
Suddenly, the red light of the magic circle flickered and died. A speck of black light coalesced in front of Aki’s chest, rapidly solidifying.
Clang.
The Rook piece fell onto the coffee table with a hollow, metallic ring. Rias froze, her smile turning into a mask of shock as she stared at the rejected piece.

Summary:
Following the interruption of his intimate moment with Akeno, Aki undergoes a Reincarnation ritual to become Rias’s servant. However, despite Rias’s efforts, the Evil Piece is physically rejected by Aki’s body.
—
Trivia:
- The rejection of the Rook piece suggests Aki’s soul is either already occupied, too powerful, or fundamentally incompatible with the Devil system.
- Koneko’s attraction to the ‘scent’ hints at her feline Nekomata nature overriding her stoic Devil persona.
- Rias’s willingness to let Aki ‘finish’ with Akeno shows her pragmatic, almost cold focus on securing him as a tool/member of her peerage
—
Character Insight:
Rias shifts from a shocked observer to a professional recruiter, showing her leadership. Aki’s interaction with Akeno reveals a power dynamic where Akeno uses ‘soft power’ (gentle threats) to control him despite her own vulnerability.

Glossary:
Notes:
• Koneko – White‑haired, cat‑eared loli with a petite, flat‑chested frame, stoic and vigilant. A Nekomata devil and Rook of Rias’s peerage, first‑year in the Occult Research Club. Kuudere‑like, she trains Aki in brutal combat, serving as his instructor and bodyguard, wielding immense strength. Often seen eating a pink popsicle, she’s quiet, observant, secretly curious, and blushes when noticed.
• Akeno – Himejima Akeno, Rias Gremory’s Queen and vice-president of the Occult Research Club, is a stunning A-rank devil with long silky raven hair tied in a hip-length ponytail, purple eyes, and a voluptuous figure often clad in her school uniform—red pleated skirt, sheer black stockings, and elegant “purple armor” attire. Though dominant and teasingly maternal toward Aki, she hides a bashful, maidenly side, still possessing her first kiss and easily overwhelmed by lust or embarrassment. A member of the prestigious Himejima clan, she wields lightning magic, mentors Aki with a kind smile concealing a sadistic streak, and balances regal poise with vulnerable, endearing moments of innocence.
• Rias – Rias Gremory, the 17-year-old pure-blood High-Class Devil and President of Kuoh Academy’s Occult Research Club, is the authoritative Crimson Ruin Princess of Kuoh Town—long crimson hair, crystal-like crimson eyes, and an explosive, elegant figure always clad in her school uniform. Determined and observant, she fiercely protects her peerage, mentors Aki as a big-sister figure, oversees his training, and is currently frustrated by her inability to reincarnate him, driving her to meticulously facilitate the ritual as both leader and guardian.
• Aki – Reincarnated with a System interface and evolving Devil bloodline, he calls himself a ‘considerate scumbag’ and copies talents. Known as Uesugi, he bears the enchanting ‘Little Aki’ trait, wields Dual Cultivation and Mana‑Lightning Flash, leads the Occult Research Club, and once slept with Rias and the Takamine sisters, now dating both while resisting full Devil rebirth.
