Volume 7 Chapter 28 Mortal Enemy

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

There are two people Cassandra can absolutely never forgive.

 One is Otto.

He stole precious magic items from the Sealed Vault¹, causing damage to the country.

In the process, he deceived Knight Order Commander Günther and tarnished the honor of the Knights’ Order and the Krieger family.

Because Günther rose to the position of Commander from the commoner ranks, he has overwhelming support from the Ability Faction but is hated by the Bloodline Faction.

They attacked his failure, and for a time, voices claiming he was ‘unqualified’ were the majority.

Ultimately, he remained due to the Prime Minister’s mediation, but as a condition, he was ordered to subjugate monsters, which the Ability Faction Captains accepted.

Cassandra wants to abandon her work and search for Otto, but that would further stain the Krieger family honor.

She suppresses her frustration and gives her all to her daily work.

The other person she cannot forgive is her father’s killer.

 Cassandra’s father was a knight.

He was Günther’s younger brother by two years.

He was the type to endure and seize small chances, the defensive core to the aggressive Günther.

Cassandra’s patriotism is the result of his education.

’As a knight, one must protect the people with indomitable pride and patriotism.’

’Do not trust the Empire; they are always targeting our country.’

’The joint struggle with the Dukedom is not eternal.’ Young Cassandra didn’t understand everything, but her kind, strong father was her pride.

Since he was of the Knight Class, he gave her combat instruction.

 ’Father, it’s difficult and I don’t understand.’

’It’s fine for now. You are also of the Knight Class, so you’ll be an excellent knight eventually.’

 ’Yes!’

Her mother was of the Housekeeper Class, the third wife.

Relations with the other two wives were bad.

The first wife was a career-minded Civil Servant.

The second wife was a merchant’s daughter.

Cassandra got along with her half-sister.

’Sister, can’t our mothers get along? We’re family…’

’Well, they don’t have the will for it. Let’s be patient.’

Nineteen years ago, her father went on an expedition against bandits.

She went to see him off.

 ’Father, please be careful.’

 ’Yeah, I’ll definitely return.’

’Adventurers, please take care of my father.’

’Yeah, we’ll never abandon the Captain.’

That scout was a man in his mid-twenties.

The bandits had a clever leader named Joachim.

He hired ‘collaborators’ outside the range of Divine Punishment².

When the scouts were caught, Joachim offered the adventurer a deal.

’Give a false report and lure them out. I’ll let you live and give you a reward.’

 ’Wait, I’ll do it!’

’Then make a (Covenant) with me.’

 ’Yes! To the bandits—’

’You bastard, have you no pride!’

The knight scout was slaughtered. The adventurer was terrified.

 ’Make the (Covenant).’

’To Joachim’s request, I swear to the gods.’

The Knights’ Order was lured and wiped out. Cassandra’s father died holding the line so others could escape.

The adventurer fled and became a wanted criminal.

Cassandra learned the truth from the records. After his death, the family split.

She lived a hard life with her mother for two years before Günther protected them.

She entered the Knights’ Order at twelve and became a knight at fifteen.

Her mother died of illness two years ago.

Most adventurers she met were trash, but Daisuke was different.

He saved her in a desperate situation. But she still thinks: if that adventurer hadn’t betrayed them, her father would be alive.

She will find him and kill him.

 His name is—

Notes:

• Cassandra – Standing 175 cm tall with short brown hair and a muscular, sturdy frame, she is a stoic, dignified knight of the Krieger family—daughter of a Knight Class father and Housekeeper Class mother—bearing deep trauma from his legacy and a hatred for Otto and traitorous adventurers. Once dubbed ‘The Ogress’ and former Royal Knights Vice-Captain, she now leads the Third Unit as a neutral Guild witness to Daisuke, bound by a sacred oath to serve him as a slave, her cold exterior masking fractured loyalty and unresolved shame over her age. A B-Rank equivalent defense specialist of the Knights’ Order, she is highly skilled yet recently overwhelmed, her unyielding aura and rigid discipline concealing a soul scarred by duty, betrayal, and divine obligation.

• Otto – Heavy Warrior, once the 52‑level tank of the Hero Party and a doctor‑degree holder, now a creepy 50‑year‑old mind trapped in a youthful body. He dons bulky armor and a stern face, is narcissistic, status‑obsessed and manipulative, obedient to Shouta and Takumi but tyrannical toward Ren and staff, pretends to mentor yet is a nuisance. Expelled from the Hero’s Party, he is delusional, sociopathic, and cares only for his own advancement.

• Günther – Commander of the Maultasche Kingdom’s Knight Order, rose from commoner status to lead with stern authority, wearing polished silver armor emblazoned with the royal crest, a scar across his left cheek, and blonde hair worn weary from recent Hero-party scandals. A Krieger by blood, he is Cassandra’s uncle, mentors the Hero’s Party, wields healing magic, and alone can open the Sealed Vault—loyally serving King and Martina, trusted yet burdened by duty.

• Joachim – Leader of a bandit group who uses clever tactics to avoid Divine Punishment.

• Daisuke – Mid-40s Japanese transferee and B-Rank adventurer, blessed by the Green God with a youthful face, tenfold experience gain, and the Ordeal skill—widely regarded as the world’s strongest yet avoids the spotlight. Wields a one-handed sword and buckler, masters Earth/Wind magic, regeneration, stealth, speed, transformation, Item Box, healing, and “Massage,” plus unique fire magic and uncanny intuition. Manages slaves Ilse, Liese, and Camilla; mentors Rin and Cassandra; dates Ines; pursues Regina and Dietlinde; leads lake investigations and Royal Knight missions. Expert chef, harem leader, and the knight-saver who promised to protect them—all while quietly dominating the adventuring world.
