Volume 7 Chapter 31 Transferee Girls’ Night Out
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Anyway, ya-hoo! Today, Nanami-chan is going to give you the play-by-play on our Girls’ Night Out in this other world!
It’s been a little over a year since I-Taira Nanami (stealth-type adventurer, swimmer girl / narrator)-reincarnated into this place. Apparently, it really is a fantasy world. I’m not exactly sure how my previous life ended, but I found out later that I was caught up in some kind of terrorist attack on a train. I was on my way back from hanging out with my classmates, Mizuki and Hina (swordswoman, athletic basketball girl), and I was so fast asleep that I didn’t even notice what was happening.
It wasn’t even summer break yet, but the three of us were at karaoke blowing off steam. My club advisor was such a pain, and the stress was really getting to me. You know the type-a total “win-at-all-costs” fanatic. Since I usually got decent results, he didn’t jump down my throat too often, but if anyone else slumped for even a second, he was brutal.
He’d say things like, “People without ambition have no value as humans,” or “I have no use for losers.” It was pretty messed up, and a lot of kids quit because of it. I just wanted to swim and have a good time, so our values were light-years apart. I was honestly already thinking about turning in my resignation.
Hina was in the basketball club, and they were actually doing pretty well. She seemed to get along great with her teammates. Their coach was someone they brought in from the outside, not some old-school teacher, which probably helped.
I didn’t care about basketball, but I was definitely a little jealous of her situation. She was close with her family too, especially her younger brother. He was the kind of kid who was guaranteed to be a heartbreaker later on. He played baseball, and I used to wonder if he’d have to shave his head if he made it into a top-tier school. That would’ve been such a crime!
Mizuki, on the other hand, was a Saint. Enough said! Oh, you need more? Fine, fine. Her parents were super intense about their religion, and she had to spend every weekend at a church or a chapel or something. I can’t remember the specifics of the sect; I met her parents once, but when the talk turned to religion, their eyes got so intense it was actually terrifying. Mizuki was a sweetheart, though, so we stayed close. Apparently, she used to see “Heaven” in her dreams sometimes. Pretty wild, right?
So, things were going okay-ish for us, but then we just up and died. I wonder if Mom and Dad are grieving. I’m sure they are. I’d love to see them one more time, but that seems like a lost cause at this point.
The real shock was finding out that Rin (B-rank adventurer, ice-magic user / genius artist) and Sakura (The cheating girl, delinquent-type girl)-girls from my school I barely knew-and four other guys were on the same train and reincarnated with us. I didn’t have much to do with the guys back then, but they were all local celebrities in their own way: Sota-kun (Hero) the student council president, Shota-kun (Sword Saint) the kendo captain, and Takumi-kun (Holy Knight) the delinquent.
The only one who wasn’t famous was Ren-kun (The male saint healer), but he was in my class, so I recognized him. Barely. He hated standing out, so he never really talked to anyone.
Rin and Sakura were famous too, but for different reasons. Rin won prizes at school art shows, and her work in class was just… on another level. I couldn’t even pretend to compete with that kind of talent.
The art club was constantly trying to recruit her, but she always shot them down. We’ve started talking more since coming here, but back then, she had this aura that made her really hard to approach. As for Sakura… well, how should I put it? Actually, let’s just skip her. I can’t think of a nice way to say anything.
By the way, everyone calls this “reincarnation,” but since we didn’t really change from our previous lives, it’s more like “teleportation,” isn’t it? How do I know that? It’s basic nerd knowledge, mister!
I think Hina (swordswoman, athletic basketball girl) had it the hardest out of all of us. She had a great family and her club was going strong, so losing all of that left her completely hollow. She started shutting herself away in the beginning, so I had to practically drag her out of the house to get her mind off things.
Mizuki was worried too, and back when we were in the same party, we went out together all the time. If only there was a karaoke bar here, I could’ve treated them to Nanami-chan’s beautiful singing voice. What a waste!
* * *
Anyway, that brings us to today-Girls’ Night! We’ve been doing this about once a month. Yumiko-san (The widow, bow saint) is the one who organizes it. She was apparently older than my mom back in Japan, but here, we’re basically the same age.
All the older ladies were confused at first, but we’ve all settled in. The former “big brothers” seemed to adjust almost instantly, though. I guess they really do have the hearts of boys.
The “Otaku Trio” are a hoot. It’s actually nice to see people enjoying their reincarnation so much. It was even kind of cute how they’d get all twitchy and nervous whenever I talked to them. But aside from Makoto-san the blacksmith, they’ve all scattered. We don’t see them in the dungeons or the guild anymore, which is a bit of a bummer. I wish I’d had the chance to talk to them more.
Then there’s Kenta-san, the “refreshing” handsome guy. He got a girlfriend here and joined her party, then disappeared to who-knows-where. To be honest, he wasn’t that interesting, so I didn’t really care. Sure, he was hot, but that’s a dime a dozen. There are plenty of handsome guys in this world.
Daisuke-san, on the other hand, had a Class that really left an impression. Between that and his “Minus Skills,” I wasn’t exactly attracted to him, but he’s always bringing us treats and striking up a conversation. Out of all the transferee guys, I’m probably closest with him. Just as friends, obviously!
Oh, and I have to mention Yumiko-san. She’s such a caring “big sister” type, and she’s a total pro at housework. Truly a reliable former housewife. She taught me how to wash clothes with a washboard-my very first time doing that. Man, it makes your hands ache! That was the day I truly understood the glory of the washing machine.
I’m getting sidetracked again. I was talking about the monthly Girls’ Night. Right now, it’s the six of us from the Yamato Nadeshiko party, plus Rei-san (Magic-Clad support, shop owner / energetic), Manami-san (Tamer, café owner), Aya-san (Alchemist, serious type), and Mizuki (Saint, healer). Since the Yamato Nadeshiko girls live together, every day is basically a girls’ night for them, but the other four of us live on our own. Yumiko-san says we should stay close and swap info since we’re from the same world. Personally, I’m just here for the food.
Sakura hasn’t shown up since the month before last. She ran off with her “hubby” and we haven’t heard a peep since. Given the way they split, I guess it’s hard for her to show her face around here.
The other transferee-I think her name was Yuko-san (Civil Servant / technician-type, toxic attitude)?-doesn’t come either. To be fair, we don’t invite her. We “accidentally” forgot her the first time, and the second time we actually did invite her, she made everyone miserable. She even managed to make the gentle Yumiko-san blow her top, so we’ve been strictly no-contact ever since. I definitely don’t want to see her.
At first, we were all bonding over transferee girl problems, like how expensive cosmetics are here. She seemed stressed out about her job and was in a foul mood even before the drinks started flowing, but once she got a buzz on, she turned into a nightmare.
You want to know what she said? Well…
”Yumiko-san, you were a stay-at-home mom, right?”
”That’s right,” said Yumiko. “I wanted to focus all my energy on raising the kids.”
”Hmph. I can’t believe you’d actually want to have kids with that Yoshikawa guy. I could never do it.”
”Oh… I see…” Yumiko replied.
That was already beyond rude, but she wasn’t finished.
”I worked my tail off as a technician, so I really went back and forth on whether to quit. My company even had a leave of absence policy. I wanted to focus on the kids, sure, but I felt like I’d just be miserable if that was all I did.”
”Miserable…?” asked Yumiko.
”Yeah. I mean, if your only hobbies and work are just raising kids, wouldn’t you feel totally empty once they move out?”
”…I see. I think I understand your perspective perfectly, Yuko-san,” Yumiko said.
When I saw Yumiko-san’s face go completely blank, I thought, (This is bad…). It was the scariest moment I’ve had since I got to this world. I scrambled to cut in and change the subject, but Yumiko-san’s eyes didn’t smile for the rest of the night. And Yuko-san didn’t stop with just Yumiko-san.
”Must be nice for you guys, making so much money with such easy jobs. My boss is the absolute worst, and I never get to use any of my knowledge or experience from my old life. Still, I guess it’s better than being a bunch of savage adventurers.”
”Misaki-san, you were in elder care, right? That’s great because you don’t really have to use your brain for that, so it’s easy~”
”Mai-san, you were a sports instructor? That’s nice since you don’t even need a degree.”
”Manami-san and Rei-san, you were just office clerks? The pay is low, but you don’t have any real responsibility. I’m so jealous of how easy you had it.”
”Being a pharmacist is such a sweet gig. Once you have the license, you can work anywhere, and the work itself is a breeze, right?”
”You high schoolers have it so lucky just being young. And the schoolwork was a total joke.”
She was just throwing shade in every single direction. Honestly, I was almost impressed by how much of a bridge-burner she was. The final straw was when the bill came.
”Wait, we’re splitting it? Sorry, I just assumed the older ladies would cover it, so I don’t have enough on me…”
She sent a letter later saying, “I said things I didn’t mean because I was drunk. I’m sorry. Please invite me next time.” But nobody was buying it. Like my Dad always said, “A drunk person’s words are a sober person’s thoughts.” I sent a polite reply, but the fact that we haven’t invited her back is the real answer.
* * *
Anyway, sidetracked again! Today is the third Girls’ Night since I’ve been away from Mizuki (Saint, healer) and the others. We send letters back and forth, so I know the basics, but there’s so much you just can’t fit on a page.
”Ya-hoo, Mizuki! Have you been doing okay?”
”I’m doing great, thank you,” Mizuki said. “I’m just glad to see you two are healthy.”
”Thanks, Mizuki. Though Nanami is a little too healthy, if you ask me,” Hina added.
We exchanged greetings with some light hugs. Mizuki always has that peaceful smile on her face-she really is the perfect image of a Saint.
”Rei-san, Manami-san, Aya-san! It’s been forever!”
”Way too long! ☆” replied Manami.
”It really has,” said Rei. “Has it been since the shop’s grand opening?”
”It’s been a while, everyone,” Aya said.
”Fufu, you don’t have to be so stiff with us, Aya-chan,” Rei said.
”She’s right! Let’s just have a great meal today~♪” Manami chirped.
”I suppose so,” said Yumiko. “After all, we’re all comrades from the same hometown.”
The older group seemed nice and relaxed. I think the three who retired from adventuring have finally found their rhythm in their new lives.
”I know adventuring is dangerous work,” said Mizuki. “Is everything going smoothly?”
”Pretty much,” I said. “There are some attacks that’d be terrifying if they landed, but it’s no big deal if it doesn’t hit, right?”
”What’s that supposed to mean?” Mizuki asked.
”Serious Mizuki would never get an old anime reference like that…” Hina sighed.
Even though we’d been apart for a bit, we fell right back into our old groove. We really do just click.
”It’s been a while for you too, Rin-san,” Mizuki said. “How have you been?”
”…I’m okay,” Rin replied.
”Rin made a promise to meet with Camilla-chan every week, so she’s been super motivated on those days,” someone added.
”Oh, with that girl? Is she doing well?” Mizuki asked.
”…Yeah. She’s starting to get a little attached,” Rin said.
”That’s good to hear,” said Mizuki. “She has a purity that I feel like I lack. Just looking at her is healing.”
”In that case, should I mention it to Daisuke-san? I think it would be fine if Mizuki went too,” Nanami asked.
”No, I have the children at the temple to look after. I can’t start giving that child special treatment,” Mizuki replied.
”But I want to go! I want to give Camilla-chan a big hug!” Hina cried out.
Hina (swordswoman, athletic basketball girl) jumped at the chance to volunteer, being the Camilla-lover she is. I already knew that, though, since I’ve seen her looking at Rin (B-rank adventurer, ice-magic user / genius artist) with pure envy. That’s all well and good, but I wonder if Hina actually understands the situation?
”I think it’s fine for you to go, Hina, but… are you going to be okay?” I asked.
”About what?”
”A young woman going to a man’s house? A guy and a girl alone under one roof… there’s no way nothing is going to happen…”
”Eeeh!? W-well, when you put it that way… Oh god, what should I do!?” Hina stammered.
”You’ll just have to go wearing your absolute cutest underwear, then,” I teased.
”R-really? But I don’t have anything like that! Where do I even buy them!? I—I… wha—!?”
Hina is such a novice¹ that her reactions are just too much fun to play with. Her head was spinning as she spiraled into a very serious internal debate about lingerie.
”Nanami, you shouldn’t tease her so much,” Mizuki said.
”Guess I couldn’t hide it from Mizuki after all,” I laughed.
”Wait, you were teasing me? Nanami, that’s so mean!”
”Ahaha, my bad, okay?”
(Yeah, her angry face is definitely cute too.)
”Hina-chan is a beginner. Daisuke-kun actually knows his way around the bedroom, so I’d recommend him even for a first-timer ☆” Rei-san added.
”Huh?”
”Oops.”
Rei, who had been eavesdropping nearby, offered some… advice(?), but it sounds like she’s already entered into an adult relationship with Daisuke-san. Oho.
”Rei-san, what was that just now…?” Hina asked, her voice trembling.
”You don’t mean… with Daisuke-san?” Aya-san whispered.
”Ahaha! Hina-chan, Aya-chan, forget you heard that! Just forget it! ☆” Rei shouted.
”Oh, Rei…” Manami sighed.
”Ufufu, it sounds like you’re having a very fulfilling time. I’m jealous~” Misaki said.
”Hmm, I see how it is,” Mai noted.
Hina didn’t quite catch the drift, but it looks like Aya-san figured it out. Manami (Tamer, café owner) just looked exasperated. Misaki’s (Priest, healer / calm older-sister) take was a little off the mark, but she didn’t seem to care either way. Even Mai (War Saint vanguard, athletic fighter) seemed to understand.
By the way, as far as I know, Sakura (The cheating girl, delinquent-type girl) is the only girl among the Transferees² who has actually landed a boyfriend. The culture shock and the gap in values are usually the dealbreakers; it’s surprisingly hard to find someone you’d actually want to date. Though, just looking is plenty of fun since this world is crawling with handsome guys.
”Rei-chan, come over here for a second,” Yumiko-san commanded.
”Eh, Yumiko-san? Uh, I think I’ll pass on that! ☆”
”I’m not asking. Now, come.”
”Nooo! I’ll apologize for the slip of the tongue! Just no lectures, please!” Rei yelled.
Rei (Magic-Clad support, shop owner / energetic) was dragged off to the corner. She’s been away from adventuring³ for about two months, so Yumiko-san (the widow, bow saint) is way stronger than her now. If I strain my ears, I can hear them: “I won’t meddle in your private affairs, but that is hardly something you should be saying in front of the kids, right?” “Y-yes…”
I appreciate Yumiko-san’s consideration, but honestly, I think Hina (swordswoman, athletic basketball girl) is the only one who’s actually that green. I’m not sure about Rin, but Mizuki (Saint, healer) definitely knows a thing or two. Setting that aside, I turned the conversation to Rin, who actually visits Daisuke-san’s house alone.
”So, how is Daisuke-san, really? Has he tried anything with you, Rin?”
”…No problems,” Rin said quietly.
”Figures.”
”Phew…”
Daisuke-san’s eyes get a little lewd sometimes, but you don’t get the feeling he’s actually going to pull anything. That’s exactly why we let Rin go by herself. In the beginning, he seemed a bit nervous whenever we talked, so he probably wasn’t very popular back in our old world.
Over here, women outnumber the men, Adventurers make bank, and being strong is the ultimate turn-on. Since things are so different from back there, he somehow ended up with three girlfriends. Even with his ‘Minus Skills⁴,’ it’s pretty impressive. It’s turned him into a relaxed, mature man, so I doubt he’d go around attacking people at this point.
Oh right, I heard Daisuke-san is out on a request somewhere right now. Rin (B-rank adventurer, ice-magic user / genius artist) looked pretty bummed out that she couldn’t see Camilla-chan this week. We were actually approached for a specific request too, but we turned it down. We were summoned by some unknown Knight Captain we didn’t even know, but they wouldn’t tell us where we were going or what we’d be fighting. Since they were hiding vital info and we couldn’t manage the risks, Yumiko-san prioritized our safety and declined.
It might seem a bit overprotective, but I’m grateful for the sentiment. She’s basically our Mom now. When I told her that, she blushed and said, “That makes me happy, but I’d feel bad for your real parents.” Honestly, I could fall for her.
”Since Rin says it’s fine, I’m sure Hina will be okay. I’ll go with you if you want?” I offered.
”I’d feel safer if Nanami came, but don’t you have stuff to do?” Hina asked.
”Hmm, not really, and your thing sounds way more interesting ♪”
”Nanami!”
”Ahaha, kidding, kidding. But seriously, Hina, you better buy some cute underwear.”
”Geez!”
(By the way, Hina did end up sneaking off to a stylish shop to buy some cute lingerie later. God, she really is the cutest.)
Summer is almost over, but I haven’t been able to go swimming once since I got here. Apparently, there’s a sea in this country, but it’s way too far, and the rivers are so packed with boats that you can’t really relax. Life right now isn’t bad, but man, I really want to go for a swim soon.
* * *
Yuko’s claim that she “didn’t want to quit her job because she worked so hard to become a technician” was just her being vain; she wasn’t actually conflicted about the work itself. She mostly worried that “being a stay-at-home housewife looks bad these days… but I really don’t want to work.” In the end, she quit, feeling safe because of her husband’s high earnings.

Summary:
Nanami reflects on her previous life and the train incident that brought her classmates to this new world. The chapter focuses on a ‘Girls’ Night Out’ gathering where the group discusses social dynamics and the drama surrounding a toxic transferee named Yuko. The session ends with the group reuniting and discussing their current individual goals and relationships.
Nanami teases Hina about visiting Daisuke-san, leading to a comedic panic about ‘cute underwear.’ During the chat, Rei-san accidentally reveals she has an intimate relationship with Daisuke, causing a stir among the girls before Yumiko-san hauls her off for a lecture. The chapter ends with Nanami reflecting on the group’s safety and the differences between their old world and this new one.
—

—
Character Insight:
Nanami shows high emotional intelligence by acting as a ‘safety’ for Hina during her depression. Yumiko’s ‘blank face’ moment highlights that even the gentlest characters have strict boundaries regarding respect for their past lives.
Nanami shows a protective but playful side, while Yumiko’s role as the group’s ‘Mom’ is solidified through her risk management and discipline. Rei’s slip of the tongue reveals a more experienced, albeit reckless, personality.
—
Lore And Worldbuilding Context:
The author uses Yuko as a foil to represent the ‘wrong’ way to adapt to an isekai—clinging to old-world hierarchy and looking down on ‘savage’ fantasy professions.
The ‘Minus Skills’ is a meta-pun on the character Mai and the common Isekai trope of ‘Minus/Negative Skills’ that are secretly powerful.
