Chapter 87 Club Activities (Part ③)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
After Rias finished arranging things, she tore open a spatial rift¹ and returned directly to Kuoh Academy.
Forty minutes later, the students and faculty of Aisu Academy gathered in the indoor gymnasium for the second time that day.
Except this time, they were all lying down… Under the hypnotic command, nearly everyone had gathered in the gym, which made it easy for the white-haired loli to knock them out and even easier for Aki to haul them into groups.
Standing in the center of the stage, Aki looked down.
The boys were on the left, the girls on the right.
Judging by the numbers, the gender ratio at Aisu Academy was actually quite balanced.
(I wonder if…) Aki’s idle thoughts were cut short as the space in front of him tore open.
Rias leaned halfway out of the shimmering gap.
”Is everything ready?” Rias asked.
”Yeah,” Aki said.
”Then I’m bringing them through,” Rias replied.
She was the first to step out of the teleportation channel formed by her spatial magic, followed by a petite girl Aki didn’t recognize.
The girl gave Aki a shy, timid nod and hid behind Rias’s back.
”Stop acting, Abiki-senpai. Besides, you’re in my way,” said Sona.
Her voice was cold as she stepped through the channel.
The petite girl pouted, moving aside with a look of mild annoyance.
Once the black-haired girl with glasses appeared before Aki, the spatial rift gradually sealed itself, the jagged opening vanishing in an instant.
Aki stared at the spot where the magic had been, envious of the spatial technique for a moment, before turning his attention back to the group.
”President Sona, long time no see.”
”Didn’t we just see each other at the morning assembly?” Sona said.
She adjusted the glasses on her elegant nose and gave a thin smile.
”That was different,” Aki said with a chuckle.
”I was planning to pay a formal visit after the assembly, but then this happened.”
”Alright, if you want to swap pleasantries, we’ll have plenty of time for that later,” Rias interrupted, stepping between them with a flicker of complicated emotion.
”Let’s handle this first. The longer we wait, the more complicated it becomes.”
Aki and Sona exchanged a glance and nodded in unison.
”Let’s get one thing straight,” the petite girl-the one Sona called Abiki-senpai-suddenly spoke up.
”I can lift the hypnosis, no problem. But don’t expect me to rewrite the memories of this many people all at once. I have my limits.”
Rias hadn’t just gone back to Kuoh Academy to fetch reinforcements; she had gone to brief them.
By the time they arrived, both Sona and Abiki Mika were fully aware of the situation.
”Abiki-senpai, you don’t need to delete their memories,” Aki explained.
”Just make them believe that everything that happened was nothing more than a dream.”
”Well, that I can do…” Mika muttered.
She began to weave her spell.

Mental magic was formless and invisible; Aki only felt a faint ripple of Mana in the air.
Soon, the students and teachers began to scowl and groan, as if trapped in a collective nightmare.
While Mika worked to undo the hypnosis, Aki spoke in hushed tones with Rias and Sona.
”President Rias, President Sona… who is she? She seems incredibly skilled.”
”That is Abiki Mika, a third-year senior,” Sona said. “She specializes in mental magic. She just promoted to the rank of mid-level magician a few days ago. You should have some impression of her. She was one of the suspects during that rumor scandal.”
”Oh, so it’s her! I thought the name sounded familiar,” Aki said.
He hadn’t really focused on her back then.
With two other major suspects-especially that yellow-haired punk yokai-he had dismissed Abiki Mika the moment he saw her file.
”We found that she was a natural at mental manipulation,” Rias said, tucking a stray lock of red hair behind her ear. “Particularly hypnosis and suggestion. Even after she was cleared, I kept in touch. I figured she’d be perfect for a favor like this.”
Aki glanced at the “shy” girl again.
”What did President Sona mean by ‘stop acting’?”
”Do you really think a magician who specializes in playing with the human heart could be as innocent and timid as she looks?” Sona asked.
(Fair point. Probably not,) Aki thought, nodding.
By the time they finished talking, Abiki Mika had successfully lifted the hypnosis from the crowd, blurring their memories into a hazy, dream-like state.
”Now, only this girl is left…” Mika panted, her face pale with exhaustion. “Rias, that was brutal. I’m wiped out. Don’t forget the reward you promised.”
”Don’t worry, Abiki-senpai. No one in the Gremory family breaks their word,” Rias said.
Mika nodded, trusting the Gremory reputation.
She braced herself and walked over to the only real victim.
Concentrating her remaining strength, she began the delicate process of memory suppression.
The girl had already been cleansed by Himejima Akeno’s magic-a thorough, magical sterilization.
Now dressed back in her uniform, the girl’s face twisted in pain as two opposing mental forces clashed in her mind.
Because she had been at the center of the incident, the mental strain was immense.
Memory modification was a surgical art; one slip-up, and the subject could be left as a mindless shell.
Five minutes later, Abiki Mika rubbed her temples and returned to Rias’s side.
”That’s as far as I can take it. As long as she isn’t triggered by something specific, she shouldn’t remember any of this for the rest of her life,” Mika said.
”Thank you, Abiki-senpai,” Rias said.
Her red hair flared as she released her true power, revealing her nature as a Devil.
”Now… it’s time to find that disgusting Sacred Gear². If this happens again, I won’t have the heart to bother Abiki-senpai a second time.”
Sona released her own Devil aura, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Rias.
”I’ll handle the detection magic. The capture is on you,” Sona said.
She hadn’t come to play spectator; as Rias’s friend, she was here to help bring the culprit to justice.
”Leave it to me,” Rias said.
Her Mana surged, the air growing heavy with the terrifying pressure of her Power of Destruction.
Just feeling it was enough to make a person’s skin crawl.
Destroying a Sacred Gear was normally impossible for anyone below the Demon King class, but Rias was an exception.
Her Mana was inherently destructive.
Against a masterless Gear, she had a real shot at obliterating it.
Sona’s talent was equal to Rias’s.
Under her full-power detection magic, the glasses had nowhere to hide.
”Rias! It’s in the courtyard, left side, third cherry blossom tree-in the canopy!”
Rias didn’t hesitate.
She took flight, her crimson Mana condensing into a physical force.
Sensing the threat, the Sacred Gear teleported again.
”It moved! Science lab, third row of desks, middle drawer!” Sona shouted.
”Got it!” Rias replied.
The chase repeated three more times until the culprit finally went still.
Its teleportation wasn’t infinite; the energy it had drained from its previous host was finally spent.
Rias reached out with a hand cloaked in Mana and snatched the vile Sacred Gear.
She stared at the glasses, debating for a moment whether to put them on to discern their function.
But the memory of that creepy fat guy wearing them made her stomach turn.
(Forget it. I’ll just seal it away,) Rias thought.
She decided not to risk the contamination.
She would toss it into the family vault as a strategic resource.
The Gremory vaults were full of such “unclaimed” Sacred Gears-some useful for trade, others for temporary power boosts.
But just as Rias prepared to open her storage dimension, the glasses suddenly pulsed with a jagged red light and leaped from her hand.
Snap!
The red light slammed into a pale yellow barrier, vibrating the air but failing to break through.
”Oh?” Himejima Akeno let out a soft, amused hum as she felt her barrier shudder. “It still has some fight left in it.”
