Volume 9 Chapter 1 Spirit Magic and a Dungeon Date

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

My partner last night was Clarissa-san. She was a vision of soft curves and pillowy breasts, her lips plump and inviting, all wrapped in a delicate rose scent. The “gap” was the best part-one moment she was the poised, mature librarian, and the next, she was a total wanton, her rounded hips swaying as I drove into her from behind.

(Yeah, okay… that was a total daydream.)

In reality, I’d promised to just sleep beside Camilla on the night of our date, so I didn’t actually get busy with anyone. My nights have been so slammed lately that it’s been a long time since I’ve had a dry spell.

It hasn’t happened since that group-cuddle session before the Designated Request. My body handles the daily action just fine, and I’m happy to be in demand, but man… sometimes a guy just wants to actually get some sleep.

Since my levels have been climbing steadily and I’ve been racking up Skill Points, I finally picked up Spirit Magic¹. The goal is to ink a contract with the “Lady of the Lake,” that Great Water Spirit I happened to save during the (real) boss subjugation of the Designated Request.

There’s no huge rush, but if I put it off, I’ll probably forget-and knowing her, she’d probably just manifest and hunt me down anyway.

Spirit Magic is a different beast than the standard stuff. First, you need a contract of servitude. Even if they aren’t visible, your spirits are always lingering nearby, ready to manifest the moment you call.

The power of the effect scales with the MP you feed them, and generally speaking, the efficiency is way better than normal magic. However, the results aren’t always consistent.

You’re at the mercy of the “field”-the ambient spirits in the area-and your own chemistry with your contracted partner. Apparently, you can even use MP to nurture them and help them grow.

If your compatibility sucks, learning and leveling the skills is a nightmare, and even if you max them out, the spirits might still give you the cold shoulder. Luckily, my aptitudes are perfectly balanced, so I don’t have any “dead” elements.

As with standard magic, the skills are divided by element. I’ve currently picked up Water, Fire, and Wind, in that order. Earth is next on the list. Trying to hunt down beings at the Great Spirit rank or higher when I have no clue where they are is a total drag… I mean, a “significant challenge,” so I’m holding off on the other elements for now. I’ll settle for the four basics if the timing works out.

I tried a test run by contracting a Micro-spirit²-the bottom of the barrel-just to grind some XP, but the best it could do was a water ball about the size of a marble. You couldn’t even tickle a monster with that. It just reminded me that at Skill Level 1, you’re basically useless.

I’m currently at Skill Level 5, which lets me contract with a [Spirit]. In this context, “[Spirit]” isn’t just a label; it’s a specific rank of power. They’re relatively easy to find up to this point.

They can communicate, too-mostly in broken, one-word barks. I used to think they weren’t very bright, but I was wrong. I just never realized it because Sylvie never keeps hers manifested. She says keeping a spirit out constantly is a massive MP drain, so she only brings hers out for a scrap.

Sylvie is actually at Skill Level 6. When she showed me the Intermediate Spirit³ she’s contracted with, the thing was talking quite fluently, if a bit hesitantly.

I met up with Receptionist Dietlinde near the gate for our Dungeon Date. I’d spent the morning doing the usual floor-crawling and training Liese and the others, and she arrived exactly on time.

”I hope I didn’t keep you waiting,” Dietlinde said.

”Not at all,” Daisuke replied. “Shall we head out?”

”Yes. I look forward to it.”

Per my instructions, she was dressed in a sensible pair of pants-unfussy and practical. Aside from the weirdos who wear “bikini armor” or “dress armor,” most adventurers wear their gear over clothes like these.

Since Dietlinde is low-level and I wasn’t planning on letting her go toe-to-toe with anything dangerous anyway, she didn’t need heavy plating. However, since she’s a well-known face at the Guild, I had her look the part of a generic adventurer.

She was rocking the “mysterious sorceress” vibe with a hooded robe pulled low. I even made her carry a staff. I have no clue if she can actually use it, but it completed the look.

First, I needed a status check.

”Dietlinde-san, what’s your current level? I need it to decide which floor we’re hitting, if you don’t mind sharing,” Daisuke said.

 ”It’s fine. I’m Level 3,” Dietlinde replied.

 ”Got it. Any combat-ready skills?”

”I have Water Magic. No melee skills to speak of.”

 ”And the Skill Level?”

 ”It’s at 4.”

 ”Right, okay.”

As I figured-low level. But the fact that she’d leveled up at all meant she’d seen some combat before. For a civilian in the Royal Capital, this was about average. The Water Magic was a surprise, but she probably learned it for chores or daily life, which would explain why the skill level was higher than her character level. She likely skipped melee training because she had no knack for it and even less use for it in the city.

”Um… I know it’s a bit late to say this, but I really don’t want to be a burden,” Dietlinde said. “We don’t have to force the leveling if it’s too much trouble.”

”Don’t worry about it. Your level is exactly what I expected, and I’m taking you somewhere safe,” Daisuke said.

Dietlinde is usually a stone wall, but I could see a flicker of nerves. She clearly felt a bit guilty about getting a free ride.

”Let’s start with a warm-up on the first floor. What spawns here again?”

 ”Crawlers,” Dietlinde answered instantly.

 ”Right, those.”

I dive almost every day, but I blitz through the first floor so fast I’d completely forgotten. Dietlinde, being the professional receptionist she is, had the bestiary memorized from her daily chats with adventurers. Talk about a pro.

Crawlers are basically giant caterpillars. They’re Level 5 mobs, but as long as she only had to land a hit, she’d be fine.

”You don’t need to kill it. Just tag it with some Water Magic,” Daisuke said.

 ”Understood… ‘Mini Water’!”

The spell splashed against a sluggishly moving Crawler. “Mini” tier spells are Skill Level 2; they won’t one-shot anything, but they get the job done for tagging. Before the now-aggroed Crawler could wiggle toward her, I finished it off with a sharp crunch of Earth Magic.

”Magic is great and all, but I think you’re going to run dry on MP,” Daisuke said.

 ”…Yes,” Dietlinde admitted.

At her level, she could only manage seven or eight “Mini” shots before bottoming out. My goal for today was twenty kills, so she was definitely going to hit zero halfway through. I decided to ditch the magic and gave her a spear so she could keep some distance.

”I’ll pin them down with Earth Magic. You just have to shish-kebab them with this,” Daisuke said.

 ”Okay… Hah!”

With a surprisingly gallant little shout, Dietlinde lunged at a pinned Crawler. The spear was forged from Radiant Iron, so it punched through a weakling like a Crawler like it was wet paper. The fact that she wasn’t trembling or tripping over her own feet proved she was a true product of this world.

”Nice work. Let’s do two more reps like that, then we’ll head for the big leagues,” Daisuke said.

 ”Understood.”

We dropped down to the second floor to bully some Goblins. They were a lot rowdier than the caterpillars, but they couldn’t break my restraints. Thwip, stab, dead.

”I remember struggling so much against these before… this almost feels like a joke,” Dietlinde whispered.

”Well, you’re using a B-Rank’s weapon,” Daisuke said.

So she had hunted Goblins before. Since her gear was totally over-specced, she was insta-killing things that should have been “boss fights” for her current level. It was terrible for building actual combat sense, but she’s not an adventurer-she’s just here for the stats.

”Dietlinde-san, we’re moving. Mind grabbing onto me?” Daisuke asked.

 ”Okay.”

We aren’t quite on “Princess Carry” terms yet, so I opted for a piggyback ride.

”I’m going to run now. I’ll try to keep it smooth, but it’s probably best if you don’t talk so you don’t bite your tongue,” Daisuke said.

 ”Understood.”

I started slow and cranked it up. Even the ever-composed Dietlinde stiffened as her body was subjected to high-speed travel without a vehicle.

”You can close your eyes if it’s too much,” Daisuke said.

 ”Y-yes!”

She squeezed her eyes shut and her grip on my shoulders tightened. I could feel the subtle, soft pressure of her weight against my back. I figured it was safe to kick it up one more notch.

”You can open them now,” Daisuke said.

 ”……Oh.”

We arrived at the eleventh floor-my usual stomping grounds. She looked a bit drained from the sheer tension of the run, so we took a breather.

”…Thank you for waiting. Where… where exactly are we?” Dietlinde asked.

 ”Floor eleven.”

 ”……I’m sorry?”

”Floor eleven. Home of the Orcs and Rock Lizards.”

”…I thought I’d misheard you. We really are on the eleventh floor, aren’t we?”

Since we were in a Safe Zone, the monsters wouldn’t aggro, but she could see an Orc lumbering along in the distance. Dietlinde just stared off into the void, looking either completely exhausted or just totally over my nonsense.

”Don’t worry, I can handle a mountain of Orcs. Shall we get to work?” Daisuke asked.

 ”…Yes.”

There was a trace of worry in her eyes, but she wasn’t panicking. She’d heard the stories from Liese, Camilla, and Ilse. This was a “Daisuke-Certified Power-Leveling Experience”- (As if a proposal with such a tacky name would ever fly!)

”Let’s call it a day here. Great job,” Daisuke said.

 ”Thank you. Truly.”

We hit the twenty-kill mark right on schedule. For Dietlinde, it was the simplest job in the world-just “poke, poke, poke.” Since Orcs are high-tier mobs, her level had skyrocketed.

”Did you level up?” Daisuke asked.

”Yes. I’m Level 8 now. I even picked up the Spear skill,” Dietlinde replied.

She’d jumped five levels in a single day. Her base stats probably quadrupled, jumping from an average of 30 to 120. Of course, that crazy growth only happens at the start; next time, this much work would probably only net her a single level.

”Time to head home?” Daisuke asked.

 ”Yes, please.”

We had to run here, but for the trip back, we could use the dungeon’s teleportation circle. We popped out of the dungeon and made our way back into the heart of the Capital.

”Daisuke-san, thank you so much for today. I know you’re busy,” Dietlinde said.

”Not at all, it was a fun ‘date.’ I feel like I saw a whole new side of you. Since we’re already here, want to grab some dinner?” Daisuke asked.

”I… I’ve already imposed on you so much today. I’d feel terrible…”

”Think of it as my ‘payment’ for the level-up session. You tagged along for my benefit, right? So you have to let me buy you dinner. Deal?” Daisuke said.

”If you’re going to put it that way… I suppose I have no reason to refuse. I’ll gratefully accept,” Dietlinde replied.

Dietlinde is a tough nut to crack, but I think I saw a hint of a smile. She still won’t just “lean” on me without a reason, but we’re getting there.

• Clarissa – Clarissa, a curvy, gentle librarian in the Royal Capital, has soft features, shoulder-length blonde hair, plump lips, and a sweet rose scent, standing ten centimeters shorter than Daisuke. Once a merchant’s daughter, she now offers quiet emotional comfort with bashful, girl-like smiles and “anytime hugs,” masking deep insecurities about her faded glamour and past drunken missteps. Her pillowy build and graceful presence make her a cherished, tender presence in Daisuke’s life—a candidate for his affection, skilled in geography, and yearning to be seen as more than just a relic of beauty.

• Camilla – Fourteen‑year‑old fox‑beastkin, ~140 cm, thin, brown short hair, fluffy tail that thumps when excited, ears twitch when nervous, slave‑marked ear, simple accessories. Illusionist/fire mage, formerly abused slave porter for Gerta. Deeply attached to Daisuke as slave‑lover, craving his scent, headpats and approval; clingy, attaches to his arm, obeys, melts at his touch, helps chores, stands up to Yumiko, favored by Rin, rescued from Gerta’s duel.

• Great Water Spirit – Also known as the Lady of the Lake. An intellectual entity made of water who was imprisoned by an Elemental. Has long hair and a body that shimmered with soft ripples—especially her chest—but was made of water.

• Lady of the Lake – A Great Water Spirit who lacks gender and reproduces by elevating its existence over eons. She seeks to follow Daisuke.

• Sylvie – Petite 140cm elven Spirit Mage with long wavy blonde hair, blue eyes, and pointed ears that twitch with mood—formerly known for her blue bob-cut, now radiating a pure, trusting charm. She wears a white blouse and embroidered yellow forest-scented skirt daily, switching to a gothic-lolita dress with lace-up boots for dates. Top-ranked Gale adventurer and Daisuke’s spirit-magic teacher, she masters Water and Wind magic, contracting Intermediate Spirits only in combat while conserving MP. Playful, observant, and motherly, she’s Daisuke’s devoted lover and confidante, seeking his guidance with new people, deeply affectionate yet quietly lonely. Older sister to Camilla, she left her village seeking intense, slow-burning intimacy—her fairy-like smile concealing a heart yearning for tender, melting connection.

• Dietlinde – Slender sheep-beastwoman with fluffy white curls, tiny spiraling horns, and subtle ears, wears crisp Adventurer’s Guild receptionist uniform and low heels in Maultasche Royal Capital. Cool-headed and professionally competent, she wields Water Magic and hides a surprising sweet tooth—recently charmed by Daisuke’s Fatigue Recovery Set and sweets, her stoic demeanor softens into quiet care, drawn to his recovery magic, calming scents, and gentle gestures, nurturing secret affection and dreams of cosmetics.

• Liese – Standing 170 cm, she is a Grey Dragonewt spearman with grey-blue hair, thick horns, and grey scales along her neck and limbs—daughter of a Red Dragonewt father and Blue Dragonewt mother. As Daisuke’s disciplined vanguard and first slave, she is earnest, hardworking, and Level 19, relentlessly training to gain experience. Polite and composed, she guides the other girls with quiet authority, her tail thumping subtly to betray emotion, yet always maintaining decorum—even during meals. She is happiest when Daisuke returns, loyal, dutiful, and unwavering in her service.

• Daisuke – Mid‑40s Japanese reincarnate with a youthful, green‑god‑blessed face, short hair, lean build under 170 cm, in modest armor, one‑handed sword and buckler. Gale Party leader who hides dragon‑slaying feats, mentors his polyamorous harem (Ines, Regina, Dietlinde, Cassandra, Rin, Meta, Camilla) with strategic empathy. Endless stamina, alchemy, healing magic, “Sense Malice,” and the unique Onanist class; balances dungeon quests, power‑leveling, and tender post‑mission care while keeping multiple romances.

Former bandit turned loyal party member at level 18, she was taken in by Daisuke and now works for the Beunemünde Merchant Guild. Energetic, cheeky, and stubborn, she teases Daisuke like a close guy-friend, flirts for sweets, and mixes sharp common sense with perverted humor—hates fighting Sheep, loves candy, and possesses Faint Resistance and Mind skill. Unwaveringly devoted, her antics mask deep loyalty and a heart that beats for her found family.
