Aki glanced at the corpse of the Mountain Demon and let out a helpless sigh.
(Trying to trigger a Breaching¹ with just one battle… as expected, it is still not quite possible. But then again, it has to do with this Mountain Demon being such a weakling.)
Even using Berserk² had not made Aki feel a sense of crisis; the pressure had only increased a bit. Aki tidied his tattered uniform and looked up into the air.
”Amano-san, don’t you plan on showing yourself yet?”
Amano Yuuma (Raynare) stared at Aki, her black feathered wings beating slowly as she descended.
”Uesugi-kun, you really are a freak. You do not seem surprised at all to see me, do you?”
Aki sized up the fallen angel beauty before him. She was wearing a leather outfit that was more suggestive than being naked; setting aside her nasty personality, she would indeed make an excellent girlfriend.
”Nothing to be surprised about. I knew you were a fallen angel the first time I laid eyes on you.”
”Oh? Was my Disguise really that pathetic?”
Raynare tilted her head with a cute expression. “By the way, my name is Raynare. Now that you’ve seen the real me, stop calling me by that other name.”
Aki refused decisively. “No.”
”Why?”
”Because I think Amano Yuuma (Raynare) sounds better than Raynare.”
”Huh?”
Seeing Aki’s sheer audacity, the fallen angel was momentarily stunned. She explained seriously, “My real name is Raynare. Amano Yuuma (Raynare) is just a fake name I threw together.”
”I know, but I still want to call you Amano-san… Oh, since it is a fake name, it should be fine to call you Yuuma-chan too, right?”
Looking at the blood-stained Aki, the fallen angel’s gaze gradually turned dangerous.
”I see. You are doing this on purpose…”
Her long black hair whipped in the wind, her leather attire barely covering her vital spots shimmering under the moonlight.
Raynare let out a seductive laugh as a spear of reddish light appeared in her hand.
It was very similar to Aki’s Thunder Spear—pure Mana³ condensed into a weapon, with no distinction between the shaft and the head, save for a slight curve at the tip that barely resembled a spearpoint.
”Yuuma-chan, are we really going to fight now?” Aki continued to needle her. “This does not fit that sweet persona you were acting out the other day at all.”
Raynare scoffed. “Typical. Do all you men fall for that useless, weak-willed act?”
Aki stretched his limbs. He still had more than half of his Mana left; this was doable.
”Not necessarily. But I have to say, I really like how you look right now, too.”
”Is that so? Then why don’t you stay still and let me give you a thrust?” Raynare curled her lips into a tempting smirk. “If you let me poke you with this spear now, maybe I will let you poke me back later~”
”I’ll have to pass on that.”
Aki’s grin widened. When it came to being a brat, he did not fear anyone.
”I’d rather just thrust you directly—until I poke you back into being Yuuma-chan!”
”Yuuma-chan, Yuuma-chan… Shut up!”
Raynare finally snapped. Her black leather boots slammed into the ground, kicking up a violent gust of wind as she lunged at Aki. Aki’s eyes sparked. As expected, Amano Yuuma (Raynare)’s power was immense, easily his equal. She was a solid, peak B-rank.
”Now we’re talking!”
Aki exploded with full power, clashing with Amano Yuuma (Raynare). The Thunder Spear and the Spear of Light collided, trailing brilliant streaks of radiance through the pitch-black forest. After only a few exchanges, Aki felt his Bottleneck finally begin to loosen.
He grew more exhilarated with every strike. At this point, even if Raynare wanted to leave, he would not let her. Conversely, Raynare was growing more frantic; she realized she was actually being suppressed. Even though Aki was slightly drained from his previous battle, his technical skill completely filled that gap. Relying on Mirror Reflection and his Insight Eye, he was slowly gaining the upper hand.
Mana was burning and his stamina was flagging, but Aki’s eyes only grew more manic.
(Almost. Almost there. Just one more… one more hit and I’ll break through that barrier.)
The Thunder Spear struck down with crushing force. Raynare raised her light spear horizontally with both hands to block.
CLANG!
The collision of the two Mana weapons rang out like grinding steel. A flush of heat rose to Raynare’s pale face. Her long, slender legs braced against the earth, her sexy black leather shoes carving deep furrows into the ground as she struggled to hold her position.
The Thunder Spear suddenly dissipated. Aki looked at Raynare and gave her an incredibly sincere smile.
”Thanks for the help, Yuuma-chan.”
Raynare gasped for air, sweat beads rolling down her beautiful face. “Did you… did you just achieve a Breaching?”
”Yep. Thanks to you, Yuuma-chan, it went smoother than I expected.”
FWOOSH—
With a sudden burst of energy, a pair of massive, coal-black bat wings unfurled from Aki’s back. Simultaneously, a thick, powerful black tail whipped out from behind his waist. Following the Breaching, the intense, swelling itch he had felt in his spine finally vanished, replaced by a wave of relief.
Looking at Aki’s Stray Devil⁴ true form, Raynare was filled with shock. Aki’s wings were not the thin, spindly things she was used to; they were broad, heavy, and radiated raw power. His tail was twice as thick as a normal devil’s, tipped with a barb that glinted coldly.
As she watched him, fragmented memories surfaced in Raynare’s mind.

There was a resemblance, but aside from the wings and tail, the rest of him did not fit the descriptions.
”Are you really just a Peerage⁵ member of the Gremory family?”
Aki was busy flapping his wings with childlike curiosity, wondering if he needed to practice before trying to fly. He looked up and instinctively showed the Crest on the back of his left hand.
”What do you think?”
The fallen angel lady was left speechless once again. She had lost track of how many times he had stunned her tonight.
”Were you… were you holding back before?”
”Nope.”
Aki continued to experiment with his new limbs, retracting his wings and snapping them back out like a new toy. Reaching A-rank had shattered the internal locks on his power. His Stray Devil Lineage⁶ was now fully active. His black pupils were now flecked with pinpricks of crimson.
Raynare watched him play with his wings, unable to comprehend why he had not used them during the fight.
”If you weren’t holding back, why didn’t you use your Stray Devil form from the start?” Raynare asked. “Why only show it now?”
Even without a full transformation, having the wings and tail out would have boosted his power. Wings capable of carrying a person possessed incredible strength—usually enough to carry two or three people easily.
Aki’s expression froze. He coughed awkwardly. “Uh… I didn’t know how to transform before now.”
”You didn’t know?” Raynare looked at him as if he were insane. “Wait… are you saying you don’t even know how to fly?”
Aki gave a sheepish nod. “To be honest, I still don’t. I was just standing here worrying about how I’m supposed to get off the ground.”
