Volume 2 Chapter 3 The Getys House
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Larry, wake up.”
I was shaken awake by my Sister-in-law.
”Isn’t it… still early?”
”It is, but, look.”
I could hear the wind howling, and the occasional dry rattling of snow hitting the outer wall with force.
”It started falling.”
Since I had just fallen asleep after finishing the second round, I turned my back to my Sister-in-law and pulled the blanket over my head.
”Geez, don’t hog it all for yourself.”
Maybe the blanket was twisted; when Sister-in-law pulled at it, my feet poked out and the cold air rushed in as the covers flipped up, so I yanked them back.
”Wait, I’m going to straighten it out.”
”Fine.”
The two of us sat up and fixed the blankets. Even though there were three layers stacked, one had shifted toward the feet, the second was under my pillow, and we were fighting over the last one.
”Larry, you have such terrible sleeping habits.”
As I crawled back into bed and lay on my back, she spoke while laughing and grabbed my hand.
”Isn’t Sister-in-law’s just as bad?”
I muttered the words and turned toward her.
”Stop that. No more ‘Sister-in-law.’”
She spoke with a voice that was half-angry, yet also sulky.
(She’s right, but still…)
”Then… Teressa-san?”
”Don’t be silly, I don’t need the ‘-san’ either.”
”Teressa?”
”Yeah.”
She entangled her cold legs with mine.
”You’re freezing! But, man, it’s hard to say. Didn’t you have a nickname or something?”
I moved the soles of my feet to sandwich her toes, trying to warm them up.
”My tutor used to call me ‘Therese,’ I suppose.”
”Was that the magic tutor?”
”That’s right. My mother gave the orders, so instead of magic, I was taught mostly etiquette and social graces.”
I couldn’t quite get a good grip on her feet, so I pulled my whole body closer.
”I wonder if she’s still at the school.”
”Who knows? It’s been nearly ten years since we first met.”
Finally, I managed to sandwich her feet between mine.
”Larry’s feet are so warm.”
”It’s just that Sister-in-law is so cold.”
(I said it again. Teressa is hard to get used to.)
”You said Sister-in-law again. You’re such a dummy, Larry.”
She seemed exasperated, yet she was the type to wrap you in affection anyway.
That feeling made me restless; when I pulled her close, she wrapped her arms around my waist in return.
”So warm…”
I heard her happy voice right by my ear.
I pressed my lips to her nearby nape and flowed Mana¹, as if returning it from the soles of her feet back to her mouth.
”Mnh… you can’t…”
She made a sultry sound, and once I let the Mana flow, she pressed her hips firmly against me.
”I told you… you can’t.”
Sister-in-law was cute when she acted sulky.
”Can I ask you something?”
”I won’t answer a boy who plays pranks.”
Her mouth was saying no, but inside the blanket, she was rubbing her body against mine.
”Using Mana like this… didn’t you learn that from that tutor?”
Her reaction was delayed. She asked “Why?” with a hint of suspicion.
I flowed it again, from her soles to her nape, stronger this time.
”Ah!”
It was a bit of a theatrical reaction.
”Wait… could it be that Sister-in-law’s ‘first’ was that tutor?”
”What are you even talking about? Henrietta is a woman.”
I said “Is that so?” while nipping her earlobe, and from there, I flowed Mana all the way to her toes.
Her neck muscles stiffened as she tilted her head, her body trembled, and then she hugged me with all her might.
(I didn’t say it to her, but watching the Commander of the Golem Battalion and Lieutenant Louise, I have my doubts. It seems like Mages are full of ‘eccentric’ women. Maybe that’s why she wasn’t taught actual magic?)
* * *
When I finally woke up, we were both naked, and my arm was being used as Sister-in-law’s body pillow.
The wind had died down.
I had to get up. Today was the day we had to say goodbye to this room.
I shook her awake and shared a light kiss.
Because it was freezing, we both dressed in a massive hurry.
(Will we never step into this room again? Thinking that makes me a little lonely.)
Teressa seemed to feel the same; instead of looking for forgotten items, she walked a slow circle around the room, looking deeply moved.
It had been a little over four years since she first came to this house, to this room.
She must have been flooded with memories.
Finally, we packed the last of our things into the boxes.
* * *
While we were eating breakfast after finishing our preparations, my brother and his wife walked in, snow still clinging to their heads.
”You’ve got the face of someone who’s been making a mess of things.”
(Doesn’t he have a more tactful line than that?)
”Leaving as soon as you’ve eaten?”
As Brother took the head seat, his wife-to-be, Ursula-san, sat in the seat to his front-right.
”Yeah. But really, I’m happy you’re becoming the Village Head.”
I meant it sincerely, but my brother just leaned across the table and struck my head with his fist.
A sharp, acrid sting flared in the back of my nose.
”Stop pushing all the trouble onto me.”
”What are you talking about? Hans-niisan, you were always the one who should have inherited the title. You’re the one who acted like a brat and tried to run away from it!”
”What was that? You want to be killed, you shitty brat?”
At that moment, the back door opened and a gust of cold air rushed in.
I turned to see Niko, the eldest man-servant, and Yutia, the maid. They gave me a small bow before turning to Brother.
”Hans-sama, thank you for everything you’ve done for us.”
Niko gave a polite greeting, and Yutia also lowered her head with her characteristic tilt.
”O-Oh. Yeah. Take care of yourselves.”
Brother, his momentum against me blunted, shot me a glare before responding to the two of them.
Following the traditions of the Village Head’s family, I had decided to take these two with us to the Getys house.
The two could have refused, but they didn’t.
”Did you say your goodbyes to the other servants?”
”To Carpaccio and Chiyo, too.”
When Yutia—the maid with a disability—named the horse she had been caring for, Niko gave a wry smile.
Knowing her, she’d probably been crying. The snow on her head was likely the result of standing outside the stables for a long time.
”Yutia, you can come back to see him whenever you want. Carpaccio would like that too.”
Brother said something surprisingly smooth.
(I guess this is why, despite being crude and selfish, he actually has some personal popularity.)
”Larry. Everyone knows you’re a total blockhead, but you’re not an idiot. Hurry up and make Yutia into a woman.”
He just had to add that one extra comment.
And right in front of Sister-in-law, too.
Ever since she had that fever, Yutia’s muscles would twitch and pull, causing her face to look a bit distorted. She usually hid it behind her hair, but she couldn’t hide the deep crimson flush that spread from her cheeks down to her neck.
”Well then, we’ll go say our goodbyes to the women as well.”
Niko led the way to the kitchen, with Yutia following behind with her distinctive, hobbling gait.
The bag slung over her shoulder was the same one she’d brought when she first arrived at the Fee household. It was faded and frayed in several spots.
(I’ll have to buy her a new one eventually.)
”Ursula, let’s eat.”
(Now that I think about it, didn’t Hans-niisan accept the Village Head position because he wanted to marry Ursula, not because of me? He’s selfish to the core.)
”Larry, when are you heading to the capital, Besanburg?”
”Depends on the weather, but probably the 20th.”
”Earlier than I thought.”
”The letter said to come as soon as possible.”
”You’re too damn serious. You’re a newlywed—you should stay and hold your women until you’re satisfied before you go. Here.”
He tossed over a small drawstring pouch. It felt heavy with coin.
I opened it to find several gold pieces.
”Consider it an enrollment gift. A guy like you probably won’t get much attention from the ladies anyway, so go blow some of this in the Willow District. The girls there are a much higher grade than the ones down by the river in Obernbach.”
The Willow District was clearly a red-light district.
Teressa gave a pointed, dry cough next to me, but I knew this was just Brother’s awkward way of giving me a parting gift. He wasn’t actually telling me to go buy a woman.
”I’ll take it. Thanks. Oh, and about—”
”Carpaccio? I’ll tell Egil to handle the coaching when you leave. I’ve heard there are more monsters than usual on the road this year.”
”It didn’t seem that bad the other day.”
”No, I’ve heard reports of Goblins and Orcs popping up. I’d love to go hunt ’em myself, but I’m stuck here.”
For Brother, monster hunting was a hobby and a way to make extra cash. He usually spent every spare moment from late autumn to spring out with Alberto-san and the others. It looked like he was actually trying to be responsible for once.
”Are things that busy?”
According to him, when Kiridal attacked, Mauer Village had asked for refuge in our village and Heberich Village.
Heberich had refused. Naturally, the people of Mauer held a grudge. Since Heberich has to pass through Mauer to get to town, and Mauer usually charges them a toll, the resentment had boiled over into a NIMBY Grudge² retaliation during the chaos. Now, the two villages were at each other’s throats, and people were actually getting hurt.
”So the governor from Obernbach is coming to mediate. He claimed it would be ‘good practice for a rookie Village Head’ and dragged me into it as a witness. It’s a total pain in the ass.”
”Sounds like you’re actually working.”
”Shut up. Keep talking and I’m taking that money back.”
Heberich… that was the village where Rudy was.
He was with me when we fled Kiridal territory. I wondered if he was okay.
(Knowing him, he’s probably right in the middle of whatever trouble is brewing. Well, not my problem for now.)
* * *
After breakfast, we grabbed our bags and headed to the entrance.
The blizzard had passed, and fine powder snow danced in the morning sun like diamonds.
Looking back, my brother, his wife, and all the servants were there to see us off.
Even though we were just moving nearby, it felt strangely momentous.
”Larry! I’m gonna be clearing the snow off the main road this morning. Make sure your house sends someone out to help!”
Leave it to my brother to ruin a sentimental moment.
We left the old house, heading north along the stone-cut path and then west along the irrigation canal our ancestors had dug.
Eventually, the land sloped upward toward the “Hillside-Bottom” settlement.
Unlike the Honjo area where the Village Head lived, the houses here were spaced far apart.
We trudged through the fresh, knee-deep snow.
As we approached our new home, I saw three women out front with shovels. One of them noticed us and started waving frantically.
It was the household of the Getys house.
”Teressa-san! Yutia-chan! Niko-san! Glad you’re here!”
Monica called out her greetings, but I couldn’t help but think…
(Did she forget someone important?)
We brushed the snow off our clothes and stepped into the entryway.
I hung my coat on a wall hook and went inside.
The layout was similar to the Fee house—through the kitchen, past the utility table and the stairs, I could see the dining area and the fireplace.
But for now, the welcomes began right there at the door.
Waiting inside the house was Alisa Getys.
She had just turned two years old four days ago and was set to become my Primary Wife.
”I look forward to our life together, starting today.”
I leaned over to offer a formal greeting. She looked like she was on the verge of tears and scrambled to hide behind Monica’s legs. I’ve visited this house plenty of times, but she still hasn’t warmed up to me. Then again, if a total stranger of a teenager was suddenly presented as your husband, you’d be on guard too.
”I think you already know everyone, but this is your husband’s Concubine and your sister-in-law, Teressa-san. Then we have Niko-san, who was the head servant for the Fee family, and Yutia-chan, who often came by to help out.”
Just as Monica was finishing the introductions, everything went sideways.
”Hmph. A green brat, some little lady, and a geezer. He’s just a virgin who can’t even walk straight. This is the end for the Getys family.”
The speaker was the younger of the two Getys maids who had been shoveling snow-Sandra, if I recalled. She was the tallest woman in the house. She didn’t just look strong-willed; she looked like she could hold her own in a scrap. Her bronze hair, which really should have been kept short for a maid, reached down to her shoulders. She was wearing a wool sweater that did a lot to emphasize her massive breasts.
”Sandra, that’s enough,” Monica snapped. Sandra just snorted and turned her head away.
”I’m sorry. Denis spoiled her,” Monica added. Mentioning the previous husband’s name clearly struck a nerve.
”Oh, really? Acting like my former husband was the one who spoiled me!” Sandra lashed out, shoving Monica with one hand. I didn’t think; I just grabbed her wrist and told her to stop.
”Let go of me!” She shifted her rage onto me. She was just an arm, but could I actually pull this off? I decided to channel Lieutenant Louise and the Commander. I reached out and drained the Mana³ from Sandra’s arm in one sharp pull. It worked. She started to stagger.
”You brat… what did you do?”
”Knock it off.” I let go of her and stepped between her and Monica.
”What’s your problem? You think you can just barge into the Getys house and take over?” She lunged at me, but she was sluggish. The Mana Drain⁴ had done its job.
(When a big opponent comes at you, go for the throat-shove.)
I remembered my brother’s advice. I grabbed Sandra by the throat. Normally she would have recoiled, but her weight just slumped forward onto me. I might have drained too much Mana-her legs were completely giving out. I had no choice but to use my body to brace her against the wall. Under my shoulder, I could feel a soft, heavy weight being squeezed and deformed.
”You shitty little brat…”
Sandra might be one of those dangerous types, just like my brother. I wondered what my brother would say in a situation like this.
”Shut up, you bitch. I’ll r**ape you.”
(I’m sure that shouldn’t be wrong.)
”Go ahead and try it, if you’ve actually got the balls!”
Wait, she isn’t backing down? I see. If she has a personality like my brother’s, then threats are actually counter-productive. If she’s calling my bluff, I have to act.
I took my free left hand and pressed it hard against her crotch. I hooked my index finger against the opening and my thumb against the mound, gripping her through her thick tights. I’m going to be a little rough with this.
I watched Sandra’s face contort in shock as I channeled a massive surge of Mana from my index finger into my thumb. It was intense enough that a sharp sting ran through my own fingertips. Sandra’s body buckled. She arched like a bow, every muscle spasming.
Maybe I went overboard. The murderous look in her eyes was gone, replaced by a blank stare. Her legs were useless now. She started sliding down the wall, and I couldn’t support her weight anymore.
As she slumped to the floor, her hips continued to twitch. Then, a steaming liquid began to pool out from under her. Great. I actually made her piss herself.
I glanced nervously at Monica. She was gaping, her eyes darting between me and Sandra. Yutia was frozen solid. Teressa, Niko, and Alisa were staring at Sandra in total silence. The other maid-who looked like a younger version of the Fee family’s head maid, Herta-was staring directly at me. I definitely went too far. What now?
”Uh… Monica,” I said.
Monica snapped out of it. “We… we need to talk about what we’re doing from here on out.” I just said the first thing that popped into my head.
”Right. Yes. Let’s… let’s go to the table in the back.”
I’m technically the head of this house now. I can’t look rattled. I had to keep telling myself that, even though I was shaking inside.
”Lili, get Sandra some clean clothes,” Monica said.
”Understood,” Lili replied.
The woman named Lili-the one with the large chest who looked like Herta-took Sandra by the arm. Sandra managed to get to her feet, albeit slowly.
She seemed fine… mostly. Well, what’s done is done. Monica led me to the head of the table. The women went off to make tea, leaving me alone with Niko.
”Young Master Larry, that was impressive,” Niko said.
I don’t think I’m ‘Young Master’ anymore, but I didn’t correct him.
”So the rumors about you shoving Hans-sama were true after all.”
He called my brother Hans-sama. I felt a little sulky about that. Still, I was worried Sandra might pack her bags.
Labor is hard to find these days, and if a kid like me is the landlord, keeping staff is going to be a nightmare.
* * *
In this world, menservants and maids are legally classified as “Bondservant” (下人)⁵. They have no last names, and their Poll Tax⁶ is five gold coins-half that of a freeman.
The household they work for is their legal residence, and the master of the house pays their tax for them. Bondservants can marry each other, but they don’t get a surname.
They can leave a house of their own will, but there are strings attached. Namely, you have to have a destination settled beforehand.
If Sandra decided she hated the Getys house and wanted out, she’d need another family to hire her or the Village Head to find her a slot. Walking out just because you’re unhappy without a plan is against the law.
There is a way out of bondservant status, though. The most common way is if a child is born with the ability to handle Mana.
They can borrow money from the Village Head to buy their freedom and strike out as a Mage. Once they’re independent, paying back the debt is easy. Most people with a spark of Mana take that deal immediately.
The law also protects them from being killed or maimed. The judiciary will step in and punish the offender, even if it’s the master of the house. They aren’t slaves; they are protected by the law as household assets.
However, unlike freemen, these women have no legal right to chastity. This is because there are businesses that use maids as prostitutes. If the master orders it, a maid has to sleep with whoever they’re told, even if she’s married.
By that logic, my exchange with Sandra was technically “standard procedure.” Me: “Shut up, bitch. I’ll r**ape you” -> “Let me have you.” Sandra: “Go ahead and try” -> “I accept.” That’s how the system is supposed to work.
That said, unless it’s an actual brothel, most masters don’t just force themselves on the maids. Most of them are married, and the wives tend to keep a very close eye on things.
At least, that’s what I heard from Tim, who’s my age. Hard to say how much of that is actually true.
* * *
After a while, the women came back with the tea. The two Getys maids weren’t with them.
”Sandra is twenty-four. Her parents went into debt when she was fourteen, and she was forced into service to pay it off. She wasn’t raised as a maid, which is why she’s so aggressive. But she’s a hard worker,” Monica explained.
I figured she had a rough history. Still, she’s ten years older than me and five years older than my sister-in-law. She’s going to be a handful.
”The other one, the slightly plump one, is Lili. She’s thirty-five. She came from another house, but since her parents were bondservants, she’s much more reserved. I handle most of the house through her.”
”My late father-in-law and my ex-husband, Denis, both had a thing for big breasts. You probably noticed their chests are… significant. Sandra has never been pregnant, but Lili has had two. One died at two years old, and the other was sent away at seven.”
Is this really one of those houses? Children born to maids stay bondservants, even if the master is the father. To keep the inheritance clean, the kids are usually sent to other houses between seven and ten years old. That’s the only time money actually changes hands.
”Just to be clear… were your ex-husband and father-in-law sleeping with Lili and Sandra?” Teressa asked.
”Is that strange? Those girls have needs too, and we don’t have any menservants around,” Monica replied.
”I mean, maybe it isn’t, but…” Niko just looked at me and shook his head.
Teressa was looking at me too, like she was trying to tell me something, but I decided to block it out. Sometimes you just have to put the difficult stuff on the back burner.
”Is everything ready for the ceremony today?” I asked.
”Yes. I finished Alisa’s outfit, and I have my old one,” Monica said. Teressa had hers too, and I’d brought my brother’s best clothes.
”Alright. Let’s go clear the snow off the main road.”
”Wait, that’s it?”
”Yeah. I’m tired of thinking,” I said. Niko was the only one who smiled and nodded.

• Teressa – Blonde short‑haired, big‑chested village head with golden lashes and piercing blue eyes, she wears a wool jacket over a blouse with a split button. Widow of former head Iffens, mother of Lyrica & Maria, pregnant with Larry’s child, sister‑in‑law of Monica and close to Hans. Once a Corporal with immense mana reserves, she rose through diligent service as a silent, hardworking squad leader. Though now replaced as commander after an arrow wound, she retains deep, one-sided affection for Larry, offering him her quarters upon his return, her obsession with procreation rooted in genuine, if unreciprocated, devotion.
• Ursula – Ursula Ullman, 28, tall and dark‑haired, is the virgin former maid of Aunt Camilla and now Hans’s fiancée. Daughter of a northern‑coast man, she was a gifted child, joins him at breakfast, and prepares to become the new Village Head’s wife, a union strained by family intrigue.

Filthy and traumatized, he mocks Larry’s condition but fiercely protects him amid captivity, visits daily, and devised a hidden-trail escape. Holds elitist views of Strock Village, understands northern trade and Al-miraJ biology, and despite his immaturity and war anxiety, remains Larry’s most loyal, if flawed, guardian.
• Monica – Sun-tanned, tomboyish fifteen-year-old widow and member of the Getys household, one of Larry’s wives, missing a front tooth; she lost her husband Denis in the Battle of Vod Fortress, now raises her twin children and cares for infant niece Maria as wet nurse, while managing the household’s domestic atmosphere with weary authority, bitter over Larry’s neglect and haunted by anxiety over her family’s survival—so much so she gave up her son, embodying war’s quiet devastation on non-combatants.
• Alisa – A two-year-old girl who has been designated as Larry’s Primary Wife. She is shy, fearful of strangers, and hides behind her mother’s legs when greeted. A two-year-old girl who is designated as Larry’s Primary Wife. She is the niece of a rock salt merchant.

• Tim – Jarek Dvorak, 14, the village’s eldest son and recent graduate, has short dark hair, a lean build and thoughtful eyes. He arrived in Obernbach with his father, watches the Golem’s arrival with trepidation, and, as a sugar‑beet cultivator from a family that refines sugar, boasts of pleasures in the district. A carefree, slightly reckless friend of Larry’s.
• Edmond – Ed, tall and lanky with a wiry frame, is the second son of a farm family from Mauer Village and Mary’s brother. Living in Strock Village, he teases Martin and Larry, scorns manual labor, plots celebrations, and aims for the Officer’s Academy. An scout, he rescued a wounded near a broken carriage, relays grim enemy intel, and burns with ambition. His household sits across the Rhodes River.
• Bours – Tall, scarred, in a faded Royal Army uniform, Sullen Bours is a 46‑year‑old human yeoman who manages orchards and vineyards. A retired Western Front captain and Royal Military Academy alumnus who served under Duke Gerhard, he heads the 303rd Militia on the Elders’ Council, is married to Sheeta‑san, father of a conscripted son, and once saved Larry and Rudy.
• Mary – Edmond’s younger sister, now radiant and confident in her transformed look, serves as Albert’s fiancée and Al’s bride, daughter of Jason.
• Mar – A battle‑hardened veteran, clad in worn armor, uses door panels as shields and captures enemy crossbows; Larry’s comrade who teases him about his sister‑in‑law’s pampering, known as Martin to his companion Edmond.
• Ed – A lanky refugee youth in simple farmer’s garb, Larry’s close friend and soon-to-be conscript, now a militia member training spear-walls; he witnessed the initial skirmish at Mauer Village as part of the group seeking safety in Strock Village, was an associate of Captain Bours, and participated in the ambush of the mercenaries—fiercely protective of Larry, remembered for his quiet resolve to survive the battlefield.
• Celt – In his twenties, he now works as a yeoman and leads the Second Squad, overseeing Strock Village’s fortifications. Dressed in simple work clothes, he’s a calm, kind sandal‑maker and translator of Bours’s jargon, quietly admiring Teressa‑san’s skill. Once a militia squad leader in the 303rd Unit, he earned his land with reward money and remains the village’s trusted gossip source.
• Ferris – Granny Ferris, an ageless elf over two hundred years old with the youthful appearance of a woman in her early thirties, runs an inn and formerly served as the first Commander of the Golem Battalion in the Kingdom of Schuberitz Army. She often wears provocative black one-piece dresses and plays the transverse flute, speaks bluntly, claims to know Larry’s grandfather, and is the elderly woman Martin hopes to marry—once a close associate of the Second Sage.
• Martin – Mar, a boisterous recruit from Mauer Village, wears Shinto‑inspired armor and fights in a Shinto‑linked style. Loud, erotically obsessed yet politely eager, he flirts with Ferris‑san, proposes to Felice, pursues the elf Granny Ferris, and trains with Larry. He helped evacuate to Strock Village, rescued wounded near a broken carriage, calms soldiers despite antics, and once proposed to Ferris unaware of her age. Also observed interrogation preparations as a refugee linked to Edmond.
• Getz – Rugged militiaman of Mauer Village, short unkempt hair, scar across left cheek, wears a worn leather jacket over a faded uniform; keeps distance but shares a quiet bond with Larry and respects Bours’ authority. Observant and tactical, he accompanies Roberto in tracking enemy forces, providing critical intelligence on mercenary movements. Scouts and gossips, he questions the army’s looting and rules—his confusion masks stubborn integrity. Though frustrated as a spearman, he stands firm, his quiet resolve rooted in loyalty to his village and its people.
• Clemens – A pale, terrified man recently returned from the front lines, he brings news of mercenary violence to the village. Recruited from Mauer Village, he appears nervous and trembles before authority such as Bours, speaks little, constantly worries about the Charlemagne Empire, and as the lone survivor bursts into tears when reuniting with his companions after battle.
• Roberto – A scar‑lined recruit, face marked by last night’s turmoil, sits beside Larry — a fellow trainee and spearman — in the grove, trembling yet celebrating their survival; as a nervous militia member wary of snipers, he bravely tracks mercenaries despite a crossbow wound.
