Chapter 117 The Stripping Ritual

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Aki pushed the thought to the back of his mind after a fleeting moment of surprise.

He had seen similar anomalies before.

For instance, Koneko should have been a grade below Hyoudou Issei, yet here they were as classmates.

This world clearly wasn’t the carbon-copy High School DxD universe; if it were, characters from other series wouldn’t be popping up.

At this point, even if someone told him Kiba Yuuto was actually a blonde, busty girl, he’d probably just shrug and accept it.

Aki gave Amano Yuuma-san’s creamy, porcelain curves a firm pat.

”I’m not trying to pry into your mission,” Aki said. “It’s just that I’ve got my eye on a certain Sacred Gear¹, and I wanted to know if you have a way of sniffing them out.”

 ”Nnh…”

Amano Yuuma let out a soft, shaky whimper as she slowly guided the Great Dragon out of her body, her dainty face flushed a deep crimson.

Once she had steadied her racing heart and trembling limbs, she took a moment to think.

There was no real harm in telling Aki the truth.

In fact, if they were going to keep up this intimate cooperation, it was better to be transparent.

”I suppose it doesn’t matter if you know,” Yuuma said. “We received orders from the higher-ups. Apparently, a very dangerous Boosted Gear² has surfaced here, and our job is to eliminate the host.”

She sighed, her chest still heaving.

”The problem is, we still have no idea who the host is, let alone how to take them out.”

 Aki rubbed his chin.

That Sacred Gear was almost certainly the Boosted Gear.

Of course, he wasn’t about to let that slip.

”From the sounds of it, you don’t actually have a way to track them down either,” Aki replied.

”Of course not. Sacred Gears aren’t that easy to find. If it were that simple, they wouldn’t ‘choose’ their hosts-they’d just be snatched up by whoever was strong enough to take them.”

 Aki rolled his eyes.

He knew they were rare, but even a common, mid-tier gear like the Twice Critical³ could double a host’s power.

In the hands of someone already elite, that kind of multiplier was terrifying.

”My bad. I guess I overestimated you,” Aki said, his voice tinged with disappointment. “Then again, it makes sense. Even President Rias can’t actively track them, and since you’re below her in both status and raw power, I shouldn’t have expected you to have a secret method.”

While Aki was only stating facts, it didn’t make the pill any easier for Amano Yuuma to swallow.

She reached out and gave the soft flesh at his waist a vicious twist, only letting go once Aki flashed a performative, pleading grin.

Having reached A-rank, a little pinch didn’t actually hurt him, but they were still locked in a naked embrace; it wouldn’t do to bruise the Fallen Angel’s ego too much.

Once she’d vented her frustration, Yuuma puffed out her cheeks.

”I can’t track them, fine. But… I do know how to strip a Sacred Gear out of a host’s body.”

Before she’d met Aki, her strength had hit a plateau.

She’d spent her time researching ways to bypass her limits, specifically focusing on how to steal Sacred Gears.

After all, finding an unowned Gear was nearly impossible, and there was no guarantee it would even be compatible.

(Stripping it from a living host is much more reliable… and it saves me the headache of searching.)

Looking at her delicate, pretty face, Aki’s mind drifted to a certain airheaded nun.

”Yuuma-chan, that method kills the host, doesn’t it?”

Aki sighed, his voice turning cautionary.

”You’d better not try that while you’re within the borders of Kuoh Town.”

Yuuma shifted her weight, squirming in his arms until she found a more comfortable spot to nestle against his chest.

”Why? It’s just one human life. I doubt your precious President would risk a total war with us over a single casualty.”

Rias Gremory wouldn’t-at least, not normally.

In the original story, she hadn’t planned on lifting a finger for the blonde nun until that idiot Hyoudou Issei made it personal.

”She might not, but if you do it, our partnership is over,” Aki said.

Aki wanted to throw the little nun a lifeline, but he had no idea where she was yet.

She might still be tucked away in some church, not yet exiled.

He wasn’t going to get all self-righteous and scream at Yuuma over a girl he’d never even met.

Besides, she had given him her first time…

”Tch… fine. See if I care,” Yuuma muttered.

Despite her words, Yuuma had already mentally crossed the Stripping Ritual plan off her list.

Compared to the steady growth she was seeing through her connection with Aki, a single tool wasn’t worth losing him.

She ignored the sharp, brief pang of anxiety that hit her when he mentioned ending their deal.

Aki stroked her smooth, warm back, letting the topic drop.

 He’d done what he could.

The little nun’s fate was in the hands of time now.

At worst, he’d just have Rias use a mutation piece to reincarnate her as a Bishop.

(Honestly, the fact that these Evil Pieces can literally bring people back from the dead is insane…)

”So, tell me about this ritual,” Aki said, shaking off his stray thoughts.

”Oh? So I’m not allowed to use it, but you are?”

 Yuuma smirked mockingly.

”You really are a Stray Devil. You’re way more wicked than this Fallen Angel.”

”There’s a term for that,” Aki replied, completely unfazed. “It’s called a ‘Double Standard.’”

 He didn’t bother denying it.

If Hyoudou Issei weren’t a semi-acquaintance-and a guy he actually kind of liked from watching the show-Aki would have kidnapped him and started the ritual days ago.

Even now, he was dead-set on taking the Boosted Gear for himself.

If there was no other way, he’d eventually resort to the forced stripping.

He’d just make sure to have a resurrection spell ready beforehand.

The scene from the anime was etched in his mind: the nun had been resurrected and then put the Twilight Healing back on.

It wasn’t that she needed the Gear to live; the Gear had become a separate object.

As he recalled, after the stripping, the Gear essentially became a standalone item that anyone could use.

A resurrected host would no longer be a ‘host’ in the biological sense, just a ‘user.’

No more worrying about dying if it got snatched again.

Yuuma rolled her eyes at him.

”Double Standard… heh. That’s actually a perfect way to put it.”

 Aki shrugged.

”And like I said, I’m just telling you not to do it in Kuoh. Anywhere else, you can go wild for all I care.”

If the host was some stranger he didn’t know, he wasn’t going to play the hero.

In fact, if Yuuma wanted to strip a Gear off one of his enemies, he’d probably hold the host down for her.

”Fine, fine. I won’t cause any trouble for your ‘dear President’ in her precious little town,” Yuuma snapped.

Her voice was dripping with enough jealousy to make Mittelt and Kalawarner exchange awkward glances in the corner.

Aki heard the bitterness, but since this was purely a partnership, he didn’t bother with the usual sweet-talking.

”Tell me the specifics of the ritual,” Aki said. “In exchange, I’ll do one favor for you-within reason.”

 Yuuma’s eyes lit up.

 ”Deal.”

”To strip a Sacred Gear, you need a specific ceremony. It can only be performed under a full moon, and you need to prepare a ritual idol carved from Purple Ink Stone…”

As Aki listened to the details, his brow furrowed.

This was a much bigger pain in the ass than he’d hoped.

It wasn’t just the full moon; the material list was long, and the Purple Ink statue was just the start.

The ritual itself took four to five hours of uninterrupted chanting and mana-channeling.

If the flow was broken, the stripping would fail.

It made sense now why Raynare hadn’t just gutted the nun immediately in the anime.

She wasn’t being merciful; she was waiting for the right conditions.

Still, even if it was a hassle, Aki needed this as his ultimate backup plan.

He needed those ritual components ready.

”Yuuma-chan, can you source a set of those ritual items for me?” Aki asked.

 Aki thought for a moment.

It was better to commission the Fallen Angels to do the legwork.

The materials weren’t necessarily ‘rare,’ just tedious to find, and he didn’t want Rias catching wind of his side projects.

”I’ll pay a premium over the market price. Consider it a formal contract.”

Two pairs of midnight-black wings unfurled from Yuuma’s back as she stretched luxuriously.

”I actually have a set ready to go,” Yuuma said. “I was going to use it myself, but I guess I can lend it to you.”

”Oh? That’s perfect,” Aki replied, genuinely impressed. “Thanks, Yuuma-chan. You really are the best.”

 ”Don’t get too excited.”

Yuuma wagged a slender white finger at him, her expression turning playful but firm.

”I’m not giving this away for free. You owe me a condition.”

”What kind of condition?” Aki asked.

”I haven’t decided yet. I’ll let you know when the time comes.”

Aki looked at the gorgeous, dangerous Fallen Angel in front of him and felt a flicker of hesitation.

 He knew this trope.

This was exactly how protagonists got trapped into life-altering debts.

 He shook his head.

”Actually, let’s stick to cash,” Aki said. “I’ll pay whatever it cost you to collect, plus thirty percent. And I’ll return the gear to you once I’m finished with it.”
