Volume 9 Chapter 21 A Certain Day of the Future Prime Minister (Part ①)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Speaking of milestones, there is Martina-sama.
This takes place shortly after Chapter 198, following Vera’s visit to Daisuke.
Martina: The Future Prime Minister.
Possesses a model-like physique.
Vera: A maid.
An “interesting” type.

”Ignoring a scout’s report simply because they were commoners… Ordering a reckless charge out of a desperate thirst for glory… And to top it all off, failing to take down the boss and retreating in a pathetic rout. You are utterly disgraceful.”
”Ngh… I… I am deeply sorry…”
This was my office within the Royal Castle.
The young man prostrating himself before me was Dominic, the second son of the House of Viscount Kessler.
As the fourth child with two older sisters, his chances of inheriting the estate were slim to none.
That was likely why he was so hungry for a ‘win,’ but a failure of this magnitude would cast a dark shadow over his future prospects.
He didn’t seem to grasp the simple truth: in this world, the bare minimum requirement is to succeed, no matter how unglamorous the task.
”Do you have anything to say for yourself? Any excuse at all?” Martina asked.
”I-I did it for the sake of the kingdom…!” Dominic cried.
”Hmph. So, you’re suggesting that ignoring a scout’s report was an act of patriotism?”
”No, that’s… it was just bad luck this time-“
”Attributing that disaster to luck is the height of stupidity.
Since you clearly have no real justification, any further talk is a waste of my breath.
A fool who cannot even reflect on his own failures requires ‘correction’.”
”Please, have mer-gaff!”
I drew the whip concealed along my thigh and lashed out at the idiot.
I reigned in my strength just enough to ensure his clothes wouldn’t shred.
Even a fool has his noble pride to consider, and I couldn’t very well have him stripped bare in my office.
”M-Martina-sama! I’m sorry! Next time, I’ll definitely succeed! I’ll-guha!”
”Hmph. You’re certainly vocal. But your blunder isn’t something that can be wiped away so easily. You will reflect on this properly!”
”Guh! AHH-!”
I continued to strike him with my discipline whip.
My combat-grade whips meant for slaying monsters are far too powerful for ‘correction,’ so I don’t use them here.
I suppose that counts as a mercy, though I saw no reason to coddle him.
I had to maintain a balance with my other subordinates, and I couldn’t let him off the hook easily.
His failure had cost the Knights’ Order dearly and dampened public morale.
It was a small miracle no one had died.
(In hindsight, I shouldn’t have left everything to this fool; I should have forced him to cooperate with an adventurer.)
”Martina-sama, for my sake, could you find it in your heart to stop there?”
The person calling out to me was Emilia, the eldest daughter of the House of Count Lutz and its future head.
The Lutz family acts as the patron for the Kessler house, which was why she had accompanied the idiot Dominic to his report.
Emilia always wore the pleasant, sunny smile of a storybook lady, but her personality was anything but sweet.
”Are you suggesting you’ll be the one to make up for this fool’s incompetence?”
”Indeed. I shall take responsibility for this matter. I will find a way to fix Dominic’s mistake,” said Emilia.
”Emilia, wait, I can still-“
”No, Dominic. You only truly shine when you’re under my protection. You don’t have to carry the world on your shoulders alone.”
Emilia gave him a radiant smile as she spoke.
They were childhood friends, but the rumor was that her ‘love’ for him was entirely one-sided-and that she actively sabotaged his attempts at independence.
My investigation suggested the monster subjugation failed purely due to Dominic’s lack of talent, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Emilia had a hand in it.
(Personally, I couldn’t fathom what she saw in the man.)
”If you’re going that far, then show me results. I’ll consider that his atonement. You are both dismissed,” Martina said.
”Thank you, Martina-sama.”
”Haah… haah… Thank you… very much…”
Emilia was all smiles, while the idiot looked utterly dejected.
They were a study in contrasts, but given the political weight of her house, it was difficult to deny her request.
Now that she’d put her reputation on the line, she’d likely see the task through by any means necessary.
Normally, I would have ‘corrected’ a failure like him until he was physically incapable of speech, but pushing Emilia’s obsession to that point would only invite her resentment.
I’d heard she was intensely possessive of anything she set her sights on.
There was no need to create a spiteful enemy over a simple disciplinary session.
This was a fair compromise.
As Emilia practically dragged the idiot out of the room, I noticed a distinct tent in his trousers.
How utterly revolting.
Apparently, the whip had actually excited him.
While he clearly had the makings of a submissive dog, I had no desire to fight Emilia for the leash.
”Oh my… heehee… Now then, Dominic, let’s find somewhere quiet to rest…”
”……Yeah.”
There was no way Emilia hadn’t noticed.
She draped an arm around him, her gaze thick with a predatory sweetness.
It reminded me of a snake coiling around its prey.
No doubt they’d find an empty room to finish what my whip started.
There were rumors of an engagement, though nothing official.
(If they wanted to play these games, it was none of my concern-unless it turned into a scandal.)
I’d have to keep a record of the facts just in case it became useful leverage later.
Emilia and Dominic were part of the Aristocratic Faction led by the Duke.
Usually, I find the Merit Faction far more useful, but the blue-bloods have their place.
Even if the Merit Faction has the actual talent, the high nobility still holds the keys to the kingdom.
You can’t navigate high-level politics without grease for their wheels.
To use them when it counts, I need them in my debt.
This whole ordeal was a stinging failure for the idiot, but for me?
I’d put Emilia in my debt and likely secured some scandalous leverage.
The damage to the Knights was recoverable.
All in all, a productive day.
* * *
Back at my estate, the silence of my room was broken by a soft knock just as I was finishing my evening reports.
”…Who is it?”
”It’s Vera. I’ve returned.”
”Come in,” Martina said.
Vera entered, her brown hair-the exact same shade as mine-swaying as she moved.
She was technically a maid from the House of Marquis Gilman, but she functioned as my personal shadow.
While some of our staff came from lower noble families, Vera was a commoner.
Not that any of the noble maids were foolish enough to bully her; Vera didn’t seem like the type to let that sort of thing bother her anyway.
She wasn’t bad at housework, but most of her duties were… unconventional.
She was more of an aide than a maid, but she insisted on the title, so I let her have her way.
”And where have you been?”
”Investigating the monster subjugation mission led by Captain Emily of the Knights’ Order.”
”I don’t recall assigning you that task.”
”The details regarding the adventurer who accepted the designated request, a man named Daisuke-san, were unclear. I went to fill in the blanks,” Vera replied.
Vera replied with a blank face.
It wasn’t that she lacked emotion; she just chose not to show it.
She certainly had nerves of steel.
I had felt a nagging sense of doubt regarding Daisuke’s performance during that mission, but I hadn’t dwelled on it.
Adventurers who can power-level quickly often grow in ways that defy our standard projections.
”I’ll hear your report, but you have something on your face. Is that… a cookie crumb?”
”Oh. My apologies.”
Vera wiped her mouth.
Despite her stoic exterior, she was a hopeless glutton for sweets.
Rumors said she’d mapped out every bakery in the Capital.
(Well, her wages are hers to spend.)
”So? Did you actually learn anything?”
”No. I was told, ‘I can’t say anything beyond what’s in the official report’.”
”As expected.”
I wouldn’t trust anyone stupid enough to blab their secrets to a stranger anyway.
It was her first time meeting him, and even if she’d tried to charm him, a loose tongue is a bad sign.
Sadly, the three idiots in the Hero’s Party fit that description perfectly.
I could force the truth out using the authority of my future office, but that would sour the relationship.
I need active cooperation, not begrudging compliance.
If he were some low-level nobody, I wouldn’t care, but high-rank adventurers are a rare resource.
With the recent surge in monster activity, the real battle is only just beginning.
”I took the liberty of trying to scout him using your name, Milady. He turned us down,” Vera said.
”…I didn’t give you permission to go that far.”
”I am prepared for the consequences.”
Vera spoke with her usual flat cadence.
This wasn’t the first time she’d overstepped, but it wasn’t a habit.
If she were truly a loose cannon, I would have cut her loose years ago.
She seems to know exactly where the line is before I actually get angry.
(It’s a sign of her competence, which only makes it more annoying…)
”I’m sure you have your reasons.
I’ll hear them before I decide on your punishment. Why scout him?”
”Multiple reasons, but to put it simply: I evaluated his ‘ability’ and found it exceptional.”
”…Go on,” said Martina.
”First, his combat prowess.
It was proven during the subjugation.”
”I thought the details were unknown?”
”Technically. However, based on the reports and interviews with the Knights, it is almost certain that he either soloed the boss or dealt the finishing blow. Furthermore, based on the volume of materials he’s been turning in to the Guild, he’s been stably soloing the Sixteenth Floor.”
According to Vera, the two Knights on the scene were purely on the defensive, unable to land a solid hit.
The moment Daisuke arrived, the tide turned instantly.
The boss was wiped out.
The Knights were B-Rank equivalent, but as melee classes, they were a bad match for the elemental nature of the foe.
Since the materials were handed over to the Knights in perfect condition, it’s clear Daisuke used magic.
Physical attacks would have ruined the drops.
But Daisuke isn’t a Sorcerer.
In fact, he isn’t even a combat class.
He’s an “Onanist”-a class I’ve never even heard of.
It seems he’s some sort of bizarre all-rounder.
”He refused to give me details, but that only proves he has secrets he can’t afford to share. Most likely, a Class-specific Skill.”
”The effects of the skills we saw during his initial assessment don’t match that level of power. It must be something that unlocked at a higher level.”
”I agree.”
During his initial Appraisal Ceremony, I’d secretly positioned someone with Insight Skills to monitor him.
I know for a fact he wasn’t lying then.
The skills he declared were real-he just hadn’t shown us the whole picture yet.
