Hearing the commotion, the Takamine Sisters dropped what they were doing and ran to the entrance.
”Ayame, Sayuri, long time no see!” Kasumi said.
”Welcome back, Mother,” Takamine Sayuri said properly.
Ayame skipped forward and tackled Kasumi in a hug. “Mom! You were gone so long! Did you bring presents?!”
”Alright, let go. You’re too old to be this clingy,” Kasumi teased.
She looked around, puzzled. “Where’s Aki-kun? Is he not home?”
The sisters looked at the smiling Aki and then at their mother, unsure how to explain.
Just as Kasumi was about to press them, Aki finally spoke.
”Kasumi-mama, it’s been a long time.”
”Oh!” Kasumi blinked, then broke into a grin. “Quick on the draw, aren’t you? I just said I’d let you marry Sayuri, and you’re already calling me ‘Mom’?”
She gave him a mischievous wink-a mature woman acting cute is a force no young girl can match.
”Actually, I’d rather you call me ‘Mother-in-law’!”
Aki was momentarily dazed by her playful, seductive charm.
”By the way, I still don’t know your name. I can’t just call you ‘Sayuri’s Boyfriend’ forever!”
Her voice brought Aki back to his senses. He suppressed a laugh. “Mother-in-law, my name is Uesugi Aki. I’m sixteen, and I’m a first-year at Kuoh Academy.”
Kasumi’s eyes went wide, and her mouth hung open in total shock.
”A-A… Aki-kun?” she stammered. “Is it… is it really you?”
