Chapter 538 Leading One Guest ①

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The business negotiations with Nada-san, a guest from the Southern Continent, were decided for now to be “considered positively.” This was not just a convenient excuse for refusal like in my previous world, but meant literally.

However, the meeting was adjourned for the day, with detailed adjustments to be made at a later date. There are many things that must be decided, and it will take time. Also, she will need to “verify” the products I handed over.

For that reason, Nada-san intends to stay in this country for one to two months, that is, during the height of winter. During that time, I would like to not only conduct business negotiations but also deepen our relationship little by little so that it leads to a future connection.

”However, this royal palace has become quite something…. There is the ‘Holy Eminence’¹, there is the Ancient Elf called Carley—the mother of Wielope, there is Nada-san, and there is the delegation from Sylvaol…. Ah, is the young lady Unia, Duke of Greter from Ferguson, also here?”

”Indeed, my subordinates are extremely busy every day,” the Queen replied, her expression weary. “Muse and Merluza will have no free time for a while, so you should be prepared for that too, you.”

In the deepest part of the royal palace, in the office of Cecile, the Queen, she looked tired for the first time in a while. It seemed that not only her maid, Muse, and the Captain of the Imperial Guard, Merluza, but she herself was also feeling the strain.

After all, until a little while ago, she was responding to the envoys of various countries who visited following the agreement between our country and the Wielope Empire, and this time, there was the acceptance of Nada-san.

Besides that, due to the revival of trade with Wielope, the East-West Trade Route had become active. As the number of people increased, various problems were occurring, and it seemed to be the time when they would finally come to the surface.

”Well, there are rooms and people to spare, so I do not mind,” the Queen muttered.

That mutter was probably not unrelated to the fact that there are currently only two people from the royal family. Originally, in this royal palace, there is a detached palace that can support about two families separately from the King and Queen.

Perhaps it would be used as a room for underage royals, or if the King took a concubine, it would be used as her room. And it could be expected that it would also be used when the Queen eventually abdicated.

For some reason, I felt a strong urge to stroke her head, but she really looked busy, so that would be for another time. I swore to myself that when winter was over, I would love her with all my might along with Muse and Merluza, and I continued the conversation.

”So, what is your business today? I believe I just spoke to you the other day about the negotiations with Nada-san….”

”Indeed. It is not exactly a separate matter…. Regarding that Nada-dono, she says she wants to see the town of Canarias.”

 ”Ah, I see….”

Unlike the “Holy Eminence” or Carley, Nada-san does not need to be cooped up in the royal palace. Of course, it would be troublesome if she moved on her own or shook off surveillance, but walking through the town would probably not be a problem. However….

”That… because of her appearance,” I noted. “I think she would stand out quite a bit in our country.”

”Ah. It is possible to make her somewhat less noticeable by applying concealment magic, but… the effect will be weakened if we converse directly. Besides, I cannot possibly take guards along in a crowd. That would defeat the purpose of the concealment magic itself.”

 ”And so, you mean me?”

”Indeed. You are good at guiding through the town, are you not? Especially since you were the one who brilliantly led my younger brother… Roland’s ‘Social Studies Field Trip’.”

In other words, I had been ordered to serve as her guard, surveillance, and guide. It was a fairly important mission, but compared to the “Social Studies Field Trip” under Roland-dono, it was nothing.

I, too, wanted to know a little more about Nada-san’s character and get closer to her, so in that respect, it was exactly what I wished for. And so, with that said—.

”Oh, Lord Harvest, I can see very well!” Nada-san exclaimed.

I ended up going on a date to the town of Canarias with Nada-san. Although, Lady Schueri, a diplomat who also doubled as an interpreter, General Mamache, who was a guard, and Muse, from within the shadows, were also accompanying us.

”Yes, that is right,” I replied. “I had never climbed up here myself, but it seems it was a hit.”

The first place we headed was the top of the city wall that surrounds the town of Canarias. I thought it was boring to always go to the Northwest Park. This place connected directly from the royal palace, and it was also significant that we could visit it safely without going out into the town.

”That mountain in the north was once inhabited by an evil dragon. This town, and this country, were born when it was subjugated.”

 ”Ho….”

”If you go around and head north, after passing several territories, there is the Coalmine Kingdom. It is the country where the Ierse Crown Prince’s consort, the initiator of the ‘D**do-Buddy Trade Zone’ I spoke to you about the other day, resides. It must be covered in a snowy landscape right now.”

”Speaking of a landscape of snow… does that mean it becomes completely white like that mountain?”

”Yes. Is this Nada-san’s first time seeing snow?”

”…! Yes. I was hit by quite a bit on the way here, and I was very surprised.”

”Fufu, is that so. Since it piles up when it piles up around here, you might be able to play in the snow during your stay.”

”Playing in the snow! What a fun-sounding phrase. I will have more stories to tell to ‘that person’ as a souvenir.”

Another point for which I was glad to choose the city wall was that I could look out at the outside of the town like this. I thought that everything she saw would be a novelty to her as a person from the Southern Continent, but it seemed to be a huge hit.

”The forest you can see over there is the forest of Canarias. Well, the locals just call it ‘the forest’. It is also a place of life for the people, but since there are monsters, they do not go deep inside. The ones who go in are adventurers… and, what can I say, I was also an adventurer who earned my living in that forest in the past.”

”My, so Lord Harvest was an adventurer. …However.”

”Fufu, you mean I don’t look strong enough for that?”

”No, I, that is not what I meant….”

”You are exactly right,” I laughed. “Thanks to that, I retired, and now I am living as a merchant like this.”

”I, I see…. But if that resulted in you being appointed as, uh, a noble? Then it is good that you were able to make the most of your talent, is it not?”

”Yes, I think so myself. Come to think of it, are there adventurers in the Southern Continent as well?”

”Yes. Though, it is not as common as on this continent. Those with skill are usually hired by some merchant guild to become guards for caravans. Or, they are hired by the Governor to become soldiers.”

While walking, inserting translations by Schueri-san, we talked about such things. It was also to deepen my relationship with her, but simply hearing about the Southern Continent was educational and fun.

”How about the town? Compared to the towns of the Southern Continent, are there any differences….”

”Hmm, let me see…. In the Southern Continent, houses are often built of brick rather than stone. Of course, there are stone houses, but if anything, those are the houses of the rich or public facilities.”

 ”Public facilities, you say?”

”Yes. A Governor’s mansion or a large public bathhouse is also made of stone. Does this town not have a bathhouse?”

”No, it does not. Instead, each house has a bath attached. The water supply is well-maintained, and hot water also comes out through magic circuits.”

”I see…. I understand, the Southern Continent is hot, after all. Bathing in water serves most purposes. A large public bathhouse has a strong aspect of entertainment, and—”

Even when compared with the knowledge from my previous world, the story did not feel out of place. However, when I heard it directly like this, I get a real feeling of it and I am grateful. For example… if there are no baths, washing the “D**do-Buddy” might be difficult. Washing with water is fine, but when lotion is used, hot water is definitely better.

”That tallest building is the Canarias Great Cathedral. Beyond that is the area where the nobles live.”

”I see, then is Lord Harvest’s house around there too?”

”Ah, no. As I said before, I am a merchant who started as an adventurer… I live in the same place as when I was poor. Only the house was made a little more luxurious. Look, that strangely conspicuous building. The small house next to it is the shop….”

From here, my “D**do-Buddy Palace” stood out quite badly. No, even looking at it from below, it stood out. Hmm, I wondered why the Queen gave permission so easily…. While I was thinking that, Nada-san said this brightly:

”It is a good house. If you don’t mind, would you let me disturb you after this?”

Notes:

• Nada – A tall, slender Southern Continent envoy, adjutant, and guest visiting the kingdom with a royal delegation. She has dark skin, glossy black hair, sharp almond eyes, and a powerful perspective. Deeply devoted to her master, she balances a blank diplomatic façade with a curious, expressive nature, vulgar northern slang, and a penchant for fist-bumping. She is highly knowledgeable about trade, administration, monsters, and sand-based geography, and is currently exploring Canarias.

• Carley – Ancient Elf Haha-sama, called Mother, is a youthful elven beauty with long autumn-leaf green hair and a soft, flat-chested form—Captain of the Wielope Empire, one of Kento’s wives, and now a rare elven mother who has successfully conceived. A blunt, pragmatic matriarch to assassins and royalty like Emperor Dee-bou and Gustav, she grants Forest Blessings, steers church-state talks, remains unshaken by magic or tentacle restraints, and possesses extraordinary physical and sexual stamina in service of lineage and empire.

• Unia – Third daughter of the Duke of Greter, head of the Ferguson delegation. She has blonde hair styled intricately, a dol‑like beauty, an expressionless face, and is noted for her sharp, perceptive demeanor.

• Merluza – The Captain of the Royal Guard is a veteran Lion Beast-person soldier with dull yellow hair, large feline ears, armor, and a large scar over her right eye. Currently occupied with palace security and administration, she vouches for the effectiveness of the ‘Tremble Ddo-Buddy’ (‘Bob’), which ensures female beast-person soldiers’ job performance isn’t compromised by their ‘heat’.

• Muse – Cecile’s trusted chief maid, Muse is an expressionless, sharp-eyed attendant in a maid uniform who handles discreet tasks like espionage and product acquisition. Serving in the royal palace, she is known for being extremely busy during the arrival of foreign delegations.

• Cecile – The Queen of Canaria is a regal ruler with long golden hair and an elegant presence, wearing luxurious formal gowns. Tasked with managing the royal palace, she oversees complex diplomacy with neighboring empires and enforces moral order in commerce. She is currently investigating Kento’s shop, ‘Harvest,’ wielding her wisdom and sovereign grace to command authority with quiet precision.

• Roland – The younger brother and prince to Queen Cecile and the King of Ferguson, this heir to the Canaria throne sports clean golden-blonde hair and an innocent, delicate face often mistaken for a girl, despite his formal boy’s attire. Close to Unia, he also once participated in a Social Studies Field Trip led by Harvest.

• Harvest – Kento Harvest, a gaunt, titled Viscount and former Canarias forest adventurer, is a calculating merchant who runs an adult magic-circuit shop and serves as a kingdom informant/guide for guests. Wearing a tattered academic coat, he wields low-mana circuits to command Academy systems. He maintains a reputation for brand trust and has a complex personal life with multiple lovers, slaves, and children.

• Mamache – A large-framed, bronze-skinned general from the Kingdom of Sylvaol, he accompanies a guest from the Southern Continent. A stern tactician and Nada-dono’s guard, his formal military uniform is laden with medals. Though capable, he is easily bewildered by modern trends. Currently, he is desperately seeking a solution to his marital issues, deeply troubled by his wife’s relationship with a succubus.

• Schueri – An elegant, slender Sylvaol diplomat with white skin and shoulder-length hair, she serves as Nada’s lead retainer. Formerly a royal instructor with deep knowledge of the palace and Coalmine Kingdom, she brings an intelligent demeanor to her role as a mediator, interpreter, and logistics manager. Fluent in continental and Southern languages, she hides a secret curiosity for adult merchandise.

• Ierse – Lively, brilliant, and heavily pregnant, this mastermind is the Crown Princess and high-ranking Lord of the Coalmine Kingdom, formerly of Sylvaol. Radiating unique charm with her long hair, she maintains a healthy, powerhouse presence while tirelessly working to support and cheer up her husband, Gilliam, as they await the birth of their heir.
