Volume 3 Chapter 31
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Our assault team for the Kichijoji Dungeon had made short work of the two thugs guarding the entrance. Once inside, we kept our pace steady, moving toward the rock-fortress within the dungeon.1
We weren’t rushing. We needed to keep our movements inconspicuous so we wouldn’t alert the thugs at the fortress, and we needed to give Haruka-san and Maria-san enough time to reach their designated infiltration spots. Since we weren’t using [Wraith Potions], making a scene would definitely tip off the enemy scouts.
We aren’t using the potions because they’re effectively rare items with a hard-capped drop limit. I can force them to drop using (Adversarial Pressure Point), but once I hit that threshold, they stop spawning entirely. I have a hunch that items like the [Black Ball] follow the same rule—farm them too much, and they vanish from the loot tables. The dungeon still has plenty of hidden mechanics under the hood.
Supposedly, once you complete a ‘Phase Six’ Dungeon, you don’t just unlock its secrets—you gain the ability to tweak the system settings yourself.
”We’ve got visual. Which means they can see us, too… though, knowing them, they’ve probably already picked us up with a detection ability.”
Following the Guild Master’s lead, I looked toward the rock-fortress. Sure enough, the thugs were already pouring out, forming ranks for a defensive line.
”So they’re not hunkering down in the fortress; they’re coming out to meet us?” I asked.
”Likely because they can’t deploy that Black Dragon inside the walls,” the Guild Master replied. “It’s possible the skill requires line-of-sight or proximity to control.”
”Ah, makes sense. Being a [Unique Job] doesn’t automatically mean you’re omnipotent, after all.”
My own (Pressure Point) skills were incredibly versatile, but they came with strict limitations. I’ve performed (Pressure Point) and (Rod-Type Pressure Point) on countless girls now, but if you look at the conditions required to trigger them, it wouldn’t have been strange if I’d gone my whole life without ever finding a single girl to use them on. If I hadn’t stumbled into that lucky moment back at the Dungeon Academy, where I happened to use (Pressure Point) on Mana as if guided by fate… I wouldn’t be standing here as a transcendent-level adventurer today.
Anyway, back to the point. The enemy’s ability to manipulate ‘Phase Six’ monsters is almost certainly tied to a [Unique Job]. Given what we saw with the Black Dragon, that much is confirmed. But, obviously, it’s not an infinite, effortless cheat.
”Well, frankly, a head-on collision is easier than a surprise attack anyway. I’ll step up if the ‘Phase Six’ monsters show their faces. Let’s stick to the plan and hit them head-on, Guild Master.”
”Agreed, Kanade.”
Since we’d been spotted, there was no point in hiding. We marched straight toward their lines, forming up with the Resonant Melody members and the Guild Master in the vanguard. Just as things were about to escalate into a brawl, the Guild Master stepped forward to issue a formal surrender ultimatum.
”This is the Dungeon City ‘New Tokyo’! We know you ‘KSK Three’ cowards have kidnapped our women and are holding them here! Surrender now, lay down your arms, and we promise you’ll be tried by the laws of ‘New Tokyo’! The maximum penalty is dungeon labor, and it’s not exactly a death sentence! Refuse, and we will annihilate you with force!”
Under ‘New Tokyo’ law, they’d be sentenced to supervised dungeon labor. It wouldn’t be a life of freedom, and they’d be forced to clear dungeon floors daily, but considering what they’d done, it was a lenient sentence.
They clearly didn’t see it that way.
The leader of the group—a handsome guy with short, light-brown hair—stepped forward. His face felt oddly familiar. (Where have I seen that smug look before?)
”Hah? You think we’re gonna listen to that? You! You’re going to keep sending us women, food, and booze, just like we demand! If you promise that, we might just let you walk away. Otherwise, every man here dies, and the women? Well, they’re all becoming s*x slaves!”
A chorus of mindless catcalls erupted from the thugs behind him. (Give us the women!) (Let us have at ’em!)
The Guild Master just shrugged, looking genuinely bored.
”Negotiations have broken down. As promised, we’re wiping you off the map. Say your prayers.”
”Hey! You really wanna do this? Don’t you forget, we’ve got hostages! Someone, get one of ’em out here!”
Following the leader’s shout, a few men scrambled into a tunnel at the base of the rock-fortress. A short time passed. They returned, but instead of bringing a hostage, they looked utterly bewildered.
”Boss… there’s nobody there! The women! They’ve all vanished!”
”What did you say!?”
(So, Minami-chan managed to save all seven of them in the confusion.)
We had arranged for them to be picked up away from the fortress, and we’d already split off a team to secure them. We didn’t need to worry about the seven women anymore.
”I don’t know how you did it, but it looks like you scored a point. Doesn’t matter! We’ve still got one left. Good thing we kept her in a separate location! Hey! Tell my brother to bring her out!”
”Yes, sir!”
The men scurried into a different cave. When they finally emerged… they were dragging Aina-chan, tied up in ropes.
And beside her… stood someone I never, ever expected to see.
