Volume 11 Chapter 28 Level Caps and Cafe Visits
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Previous Summary: I contracted with a Great Spirit. There was some suspicion that the “Spirit” (Seirei) in the name actually referred to “semen” (seieki)1.
Rei: A bright, cheerful older-sister type. Daisuke’s fuck-buddy. Transistor-glamour build, 153 cm tall.
Manami: A quiet older-sister type. Just a normal friend. Slender build, 170 cm tall.
Around the same time I went to pick up the Great Spirit, a small incident occurred. Calling it an incident might be an exaggeration, but it felt incredibly important to me personally.
In this world, your Level rises once you’ve accumulated a certain amount of experience. The requirements and acquisition rates do not vary by Class; they’re the same for everyone. The standard way to gain EXP is by defeating monsters. Acting in accordance with your Class does not grant EXP or raise your Level, though it can earn Skill EXP and increase Skill Levels.
Technically, you can also gain EXP by killing humans, but because of the issues surrounding “Evil” Titles, most people avoid doing so.
We Transferees have an obvious cheat: we gain ten times the normal amount of EXP. The official justification is that it’s necessary to defeat the Demon King, but from the perspective of ordinary people—especially veteran adventurers—it must look like we’re completely ignoring the hardships they’ve endured.
That said, since the Demon King is both a figure from fairy tales and a symbol of absolute terror, most people want nothing to do with the task of subjugating him. Perhaps the more experience someone has fighting powerful monsters, the more realistically they can imagine the terror a Demon King represents.
In my case, I also gain EXP through “Private Power Generation” (masturbation). Once per day, I receive an amount equal to one-tenth of the EXP required for my next Level. Normally, it would only be one-hundredth, but thanks to the Transferee cheat, that amount is multiplied tenfold.
At lower Levels, the gain is negligible. However, the higher your Level becomes, the more significant the benefit grows.
My daily EXP income on the 20th Floor, my current primary hunting ground, is roughly 110,000. The amount gained through Private Power Generation is about 170,000.
At this point, Private Power Generation has surpassed ordinary monster hunting as my primary source of EXP.
Everything had been progressing smoothly until my Level suddenly stopped increasing.
I should have reached Level 95, but I remained stuck at 94.
Even my Status display looked strange:
(94: 1,758,437 / 1,661,168)
In other words, my accumulated EXP had already exceeded the required amount, yet my Level refused to increase.
The most likely explanation was a Level cap.
As I had suspected when I acquired the Limit Break skill, it seemed impossible to exceed Level 90 without it. Since my current Limit Break Skill Level was four, Level 94 appeared to be the maximum.
This was only speculation, of course. There were no records and no one capable of teaching me.
Fortunately, Limit Break’s Skill Level could be raised through Private Power Generation, so the actual impact was minimal.
According to my estimates, the difference amounts to no more than about three Levels. I expect the cap will disappear once the Skill reaches Level 10, so there is no reason to be pessimistic. Fortunately, EXP continues to accumulate even after hitting the cap, so none of it goes to waste. The amount gained through Private Power Generation does decrease slightly, though.
As for why I believe the cap will eventually be removed, that conclusion comes from information about previous Demon Kings and my Intuition skill. Since Demon Kings in the past have exceeded Level 100, it seems unlikely that the limit simply stops there. As for Intuition’s reasoning… it’s that kind of skill. Trying to explain it would be pointless.
The following day, Limit Break reached Skill Level 5, and my Level immediately rose to 95.
That confirmed my hypothesis regarding Limit Break.
Whether the cap eventually disappears entirely, however, remains unverified.
I happened to have spare Skill Points available when I acquired Limit Break, but I wonder if there are people who simply cannot obtain it at all. The Skill Point requirement was suspiciously high. Without Intuition’s recommendation, I probably would not have taken it.
Even if someone acquires it, leveling the skill itself becomes a bottleneck. For ordinary people, the practical Level cap is probably around 97 or 98.
By the way, the higher your Level becomes, the harder it is to raise.
Stronger monsters naturally provide more EXP, but the increase in required EXP outpaces the increase in acquisition. If you consistently hunt monsters appropriate for your Level, doubling your Level effectively means hunting twice as many monsters.
Between the Transferee cheat and operating solo, I progress at roughly fifty times the pace of a normal adventurer.
The number is not a perfect fifty due to safety considerations, but it is still absurdly fast. Sometimes I cannot help feeling a little guilty about it.
Every week, when I drop off Camilla, Ilse, Nicola, and Grete, I also visit the six Transferee women who are still working as adventurers.
The arrangement originally existed to help Liese, whose race matures slowly, gain experience.
Now that Franziska has joined, there is less need for the arrangement, but Rin—who has become particularly fond of Camilla—and Yumiko, who enjoys looking after Ilse, wanted to continue.
Receiving guidance from the Yamato Nadeshiko party, a group of Transferee women with exceptionally high Levels and Skill Levels, is hardly a bad deal for the First Blood party.
The other five Transferee women remain in the Royal Capital.
Yuko still milks me dry under the pretense of a monthly tea party, though our relationship has not reached the point where we would cut ties entirely.
Getting a boyfriend would give her a reason to stop attending those tea parties, but there is no sign of that happening. I also cannot introduce her to any acquaintances. That would only increase the number of victims.
Aya, the stubborn one, retired from adventuring and became an apprentice alchemist.
Her master, Clemens, is apparently a famous alchemist, though she constantly complains about his terrible sexual harassment.
Still, she says her Alchemy Skill is progressing smoothly.
Mizuki, the former JK Saint, spends her days caring for the temple’s orphans.
She is probably healing the earnest believers as well.
Since she is no longer a child—though she is only around eighteen—she understands that her Healing Magic is only available to those who provide offerings.
From what Nanami told me, she seems to have accepted that the expensive offerings are necessary due to various practical constraints.
Then there are the two women who opened businesses using the money they earned as adventurers.
I visit their shops roughly once a week.
Rei’s Maid Cafe. And Manami’s Cat Cafe.
”Yoo-hoo, Manami! Doing good?” Rei chirped.
”Oh, Rei,” Manami replied. “I envy how you’re always so energetic.”
”That’s because Rei never catches a cold, y’know!”
”I certainly haven’t seen you look ill, now that you mention it…”
”Who’s an idiot?” Rei snapped. “Watch it, or I’ll smack you! ☆”
Today, I visited Manami’s shop with Rei.
The two of them had never known each other in their previous lives, but they apparently became close during the year they spent living together. At first glance, they’re an odd combination: the short, energetic Rei and the tall, composed Manami. Yet they get along surprisingly well.
According to them, it’s because they were both corporate slaves2 in their previous lives, so they have a lot in common.
Rei, however, was not exactly the quiet office-worker type.
From what I’ve heard, she occasionally went on a rampage at work.
She never gave me all the details, but the “mildest” story she shared was:
”I pretended to be drunk at a company party and smacked my shitty boss on the head! His toupee flew off, and everyone burst out laughing! ☆”
In most companies, that alone would be a major incident.
And that was supposedly the mildest example.
I shudder to imagine the rest.
Still, one thing is certain: working with Rei sounds fun.
She’s so bright and full of humor that she’d probably keep everyone’s spirits up even during the rough times.
For the sake of my sanity, I chose not to think about what her boss went through.
In contrast, Manami had been extremely serious.
Even when drinking, she never caused trouble, and she often looked after her juniors.
She was patient and competent, yet despite earning her results through her own efforts, people accused her of being a “nepotism hire.”
Eventually, that constant resentment left her wondering:
”What am I even working for?”
She never found an answer.
Even so, she kept going, drifting through each day without ever quitting.
It’s the sort of story that reminds you how bleak modern society can be—especially for working women.
The two grew close while adventuring together, and they’ve remained friends even after retiring and becoming business owners.
Rei rarely gets time off, but she does occasionally have a free day.
When I learned she was available, I conveniently arranged to be free as well and invited her out.
Since I also wanted to check on Manami’s situation, we decided to visit the Cat Cafe.
Both businesses are doing quite well.
They’re somewhat upscale establishments that place considerable emphasis on their food, and the dishes are genuinely good.
Even with Cooking Skills in existence, knowledge still matters. Having a variety of recipes and understanding the value of seasonings and spices makes a significant difference.
Perhaps because spices remain expensive in this world, many restaurants seem to operate on a philosophy of “Just eat whatever.”
In some places, salt is practically the only seasoning available.
To be fair, fried potatoes are delicious with nothing but salt, which is why they’ve become an incredibly popular menu item at izakayas3.
”Haa~, winter’s really setting in. What a pain,” Rei sighed.
”Not good with the cold?” I asked.
”That’s part of it. I’m used to Tokyo winters, but it’s about as cold here as Hokkaido, y’know~. More importantly, though, winter is a woman’s natural enemy! ☆”
”Because of the dryness?”
”Exactly. Once the humidity drops, your skin dries out. Dry skin is public enemy number one.”
She wasn’t wrong.
The southern Kanto region gets very little rain or snow during winter, and the dryness can be brutal.
This world is colder, but the climate is relatively mild and there’s no snow, so the situation is surprisingly similar.
In other words, it’s incredibly dry.
Without electric humidifiers, people are stuck relying on old-fashioned methods such as boiling water, expensive magic items, or manually casting magic.
Every option is a hassle.
My household uses a magic item, but it’s far too expensive to hand out casually to people who aren’t my lovers.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do.
”I have one of those paper humidifiers in my room, but it still isn’t enough~,” Manami said.
”Still,” Rei added, “thanks to the lotion and milky lotion Daisuke-san gave me, I’ve been managing pretty well. I’m grateful.”
”Thanks! ☆”
”It’s the least I can do.”
For now, that’s about all I can offer.
As I continue exploring deeper floors of the dungeon, there may eventually be more ways I can help.
Until then, I’ll keep checking in on them from time to time.
”The shops seem to be doing well,” I said. “But is there anything you’re struggling with?”
”Not really,” Manami replied. “Even if there were, I’d rather avoid relying on Daisuke-san just because we’re from the same hometown.”
”Really?” Rei cut in. “I think it’s better to borrow help when you need it. You can always pay it back later! ☆”
”That may work for you, Rei, but I worry about creating debts in the first place.”
”Well, that’s just a difference in perspective,” I said. “You don’t have to force yourself to rely on me.”
”That’s true too. ☆”
The serious Manami seems to dislike the idea of debt. She apparently funded the opening of the Cat Cafe with money she had saved up bit by bit. Rei, on the other hand, apparently borrowed money from part of the Guild. It’s hard to say which is better, but you can see the difference in their personalities even there.
”I’m enjoying spending time with the cats now,” Manami said. “Of course, it’s not all fun and games, but the hard work doesn’t bother me.”
”Manami really loves cats,” Rei said. “In her previous life, she was apparently shunned by every cat she met! Hilarious! ☆”
”Hey, Rei?” Manami protested. “That was a traumatic experience for me.”
”Don’t tease her,” I said. “I know how you feel, too.”
”Now that you mention it, you also had a cat allergy, right? Sorry about that! ☆”
”Haa… it can’t be helped, I suppose.”
I know she has no malicious intent, so Manami easily forgave Rei. They’re both kind in their own ways. With that, we continued the conversation, and eventually left the shop with Rei at an appropriate time.
”Daisuke-kun, want to go get a drink after this?” Rei asked.
”Sure, let’s go,” I said. “That was the plan, anyway.”
”As expected of Daisuke-kun, that’s what I like to hear! ☆”
Of course, it didn’t end with just one drink, and we stayed until Rei was properly drunk. She said that while being a staff member and operator of a Maid Cafe is fun, it comes with its own stress. It’s work, after all, so it can’t just be fun.
Listening to those stories next to her, we got into the mood and headed to a short-stay inn.
”Daisuke-kun, you were planning on coming here from the start, weren’t you?” Rei smirked.
”That’s not true.”
”You don’t have to play dumb. I wanted to do it today too! ☆”
”Seriously? I couldn’t tell at all.”
”Seriously. Now, make me forget my stress, okay? ♡”
”Leave it to me.”
Rei, after such a long time, was very proactive, and I thoroughly enjoyed her transistor-glamour body. Even though she’s short, everything is right where it should be, so she’s very erotic and feels good to hold. She’s got a fair amount of technique, too. During pillow talk after finishing a round, we sometimes do a review, but mostly it’s just idle chatter. You can hear the true feelings that you can’t say when sober. Some would call it losing your inhibitions.
”When Daisuke-kun is in the mood, your eyes go straight to my chest, so it’s easy to tell! ☆”
”…Uh, I’ll be careful in the future.”
”Ahaha, I don’t mind! If you look at me when you’re ‘in the mood,’ it just gets me excited! ♡”
”By the way, how about now?”
”We’re still in the middle of it, so you know, right?”
”Then I won’t hold back.”
”An… You’re such a pervert! ♡”
When I responded to her invitation and kneaded her, it seemed the fire was lit again. She kissed me passionately, so I met her lead and went into the second round. We had time before I had to go home, so I made sure to let her enjoy it to the fullest. We enjoyed our meeting at the inn out of consideration for my lovers at home, but I wonder if Rei will come to my house someday?

Meta Tsedes: “I’ve never had a ‘good feeling’ with a man before, so how do I go about it?”
Narrator: “Since it involves another person, there isn’t just one way, but fundamentally, it starts with both parties thinking the other is ‘good.’”
Meta Tsedes: “If that were the case, it shouldn’t be strange for it to happen to me, but even Daisuke-san, who lives by his s*x drive, doesn’t invite me.”
Narrator: “Regarding your perception of Daisuke-sama, let’s assume you need re-education. Simply put, isn’t it because you lack charm?”
Meta Tsedes: “That’s horrible! That’s defamation! Also, I refuse re-education!”
Narrator: “That was a joke. Isn’t it because you are unconsciously rejecting Daisuke-sama?”
Meta Tsedes: “I can’t say that’s not true…”

Summary:
Daisuke realizes his leveling has been artificially halted by a level cap at 94, which he successfully overcomes through his skill progression. Following his successful leveling, he spends time visiting the shops run by his Transferee acquaintances, Rei and Manami. He concludes his day with an intimate encounter with Rei at a short-stay inn.
—
Trivia:
The EXP gain from “Private Power Generation” is a significant factor in Daisuke’s rapid level progression.
There is a specific Level cap mechanics system tied to the Limit Break skill.
Rei was a corporate slave in her previous life and had a habit of acting out against her superiors.
Manami funded her Cat Cafe through hard-earned savings, unlike Rei who utilized Guild loans.
