Volume 11 Chapter 29 Receptionists and the A-Rank Monster

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

It has been over two years since I last cracked the top 100 in the daily rankings. It feels good. I am planning to release a little something special as a thank-you soon.

But first, a quick recap: I hit a level cap, visited Rei and Manami at their Cat Café, and afterward, we spent some intimate time together.1

One of my lovers, Diet, is my assigned receptionist, but among the Adventurer’s Guild clerks, there are also the handsome twins and the Black Gyaru Trio.

Before the false accusation incident, there was also Pascal—a dapper, bearded older gentleman—but he was promoted to department head and no longer handles guild clerk duties.

His calm demeanor, gentle smile, and, quite frankly, smooth voice had quite the impact on some of the female adventurers; for a while, you could hear their laments echoing through the guild.

Diet is a bit too cool to be considered “popular,” but she does have her regulars.

She does not waste words, calmly and efficiently doing exactly what needs to be done.

 And she is accurate, too.

Her regulars tend to be seasoned veterans who appreciate that kind of reliability.

Well, you need to be a pretty hardened veteran to find that level of composure relaxing, and since there are not many adventurers who stay active until they are old and gray, her pool of regulars is small.

It is public knowledge that she is seeing me, but since her vibe has not changed, she does not seem to have gained any new popularity.

Not that she has lost her regulars, either.

As for the other clerks, the handsome twins and the Black Gyaru Trio are both popular, and lines form in front of them every morning and evening.

Of course, I could talk to them if I stood in line, but I have always ignored them unless Diet was not around.

Ever since Diet became my assigned receptionist, I have not even had the chance to talk to them; usually, I just watch from the sidelines.

It is worth noting that the three otaku, aside from Kenta-kun, say they are not good with gyaru, and in my previous life, I was not particularly fond of them either.

Makoto, the loli-con blacksmith, had an especially hard time; whenever one of them spoke to him, he would freeze up, sweat pouring down his face.

I assume he has gotten over it through his customer service experience…

I hope so. I have given up on him.

Only Kenta-kun seemed fine with it, which just goes to show how much of a “real-life winner” he was in his previous life.

The Black Gyaru Trio is always noisy.

Gabriela, the cheerful mood-maker, started it off.

”Like, doesn’t it look way cooler that way? Seriously, being the only pale one is impossible. That’s, like, so not it!”

”OMG, literally! You’re so right, babe!” Ottilie chimed in, tossing her hair with a confident smirk.

Maaya, the slightly sharper one of the bunch, adjusted her stance.

”Well, technically, it’s not impossible, but I guess the aesthetic argument holds up.”

”Ugh, shut up, Maaya! You’re totally killing the vibe!” Gabriela laughed, punching her arm playfully.

I thought their tan skin was natural, but it turns out Gabriela, who is human, is tanning on purpose because she thinks it is trendier.

Ugh, that is such a “turn-of-the-millennium gyaru” sentiment.

She is going to have a rough time with skin damage when she gets older if she does not take care of herself.

They basically operate as a three-woman cell, and they even share a room.

Apparently, if one of them gets a boyfriend, she brings him home without worrying about the other two.

I wondered if the other two were really okay with that, but they have individual rooms, so there is at least some semblance of privacy.

How do I know? Because Gabriela invited me over.

I laughed at how blunt her invitation was—flashing a brilliant smile and saying, “Daisuke-chi, you’re rich, right? Support me, too!”—so I admitted defeat and took her up on it.

My “Sense Malice” reacted a little, but she was not hiding anything and was being honest, so I figured, why not? I will talk about that another time.

The handsome twins are naturally popular with female parties.

Sleek hair, refined features, and a friendly attitude—even toward crude female adventurers—all accompanied by a smile.

That slight “little brat” vibe hits just right for those who are into it.

I can see why they are popular.

If I were to compare them to Japan in my previous life, it is like having a talent from one of those male-sexual-offender-ridden agencies working as a guild clerk.

They are not high-level, but because they are handsome, you could say they are blessed.

In my previous life in Japan, they probably could have made a living on their looks alone, and that is likely true in this world as well.

However, their true nature is not as refreshing as their appearance suggests.

I want to be clear: this is not some delusion born of jealousy.

I have heard rumors more than once about them eating their way through innocent girls, and I have even seen them enter a short-stay inn with young female adventurers.

If that were just their personal business, I would not say anything, but they tried to lay a hand on Nicola.

Naturally, I could not let that slide, so I punished them with some heavy intimidation.

I laughed when I saw them jump and twitch as if they had been shocked, their “refreshing” smiles twisting into grimaces, but it seemed to be quite a shock to them.

Even if it was only for a split second, I intimidated them at a level rarely experienced even by adventurers, so they should be glad they did not die of shock.

By the way, if they had actually touched Nicola, I would have physically burned their hands off.

The male adventurers who saw them just sneered, and the female adventurers—their fans—were shocked by the sudden, bizarre display.

The fact that none of the male adventurers tried to mind them is the answer, is it not? Besides, the fact that a handsome man who does not need to work is working as a guild clerk is already suspicious.

Since then, they have done their best to avoid looking at me or my lovers.

It seems they have at least a minimum level of learning ability, which is a relief.

If they have learned their lesson, they had better stay quiet.

If they try anything, I will just add two more seedbeds for an Orc General.

I already have the gender-swap potion, after all.

Since they are popular with female adventurers, unfortunately, they might get rescued quickly.

 No, wait.

If they are gender-swapped, do they get rescued by men instead? I do not know.

By the way, the Hotwind party, the First Blood party, the transferee girls’ Yamato Nadeshiko party, the Mirage party that Meta was in, and the Wyvern Slayers party that Grete and Franziska were in did not particularly care where they lined up.

The party Vanessa was in and the party Nicola were in apparently lined up at the male guild clerk’s desk.

Vanessa said, “Daisuke has started satisfying me, so I haven’t been lining up since then.” As for Nicola, the other girls in her former party were gunning for the monk guild clerk.

Apparently, Nicola also said, “I don’t need that anymore♡.” That makes me quite happy.

Although my leveling had slowed down a bit, reaching level 95 was the catalyst for me to move on to the 11th floor.

This is the domain of A-Rank monsters.

The monsters here are bigger, faster, and stronger than ever before.

My status is fine, but I want to remain vigilant.

Now, as for the monsters that appear on the 11th floor, they are wyverns and cyclopes.

The wyvern is a well-known monster, I am sure.

It is the namesake of the party I have had a lot to do with lately, the Wyvern Slayers.

Their forelimbs are wings, and they can fly.

This alone makes them a tough opponent for close-range fighters.

Their tails are spiked, and just swinging them around is painful enough, not to mention the potent poison.

They breathe fire from their mouths, their bite attacks are strong, and their roars can paralyze you.

Their charges, taking advantage of their massive bodies, are also a threat; if a rearguard takes one, they could easily be left in critical condition from a single hit.

Of course, they are sub-dragons, much weaker than true dragons, but for the average person, they are plenty strong enough.

If a village is attacked, it is doomed, and even a large town or street cannot avoid damage.

Fortunately, their magic resistance is not that high, so the popular strategy is to attack their wings with long-range magic to keep them from flying.

Of course, bows and arrows are a viable substitute.

You can blind them with flashbangs, but it is not effective enough to trap them.

From the second time onward, they will just close their eyes and evade.

You can actually turn this against them by forcing them to close their eyes and then attacking while they are vulnerable.

Other than that, maybe they get dazed if you hit them in the head enough? Still, you need a blunt weapon for that, and it is somewhat difficult to aim at a target flying around.

Their materials—fangs, claws, skin, and bones—are all useful for weapons and armor, and the tail poison is expensive.

They are excellent monsters for making money.

However, despite their high rank, the meat tastes terrible, so it is only fit for monster feed or fertilizer.

Liese was disappointed by this, but as expected, she did not like the idea of eating awful meat, so she did not object.

It seems to be a feast for Slajiro and the others, so they were happy, which is good.

The cyclops is a monster that clearly embodies the concept of “big is strong.” They are not fast, but the strike of their club, delivered with sheer, magically enhanced strength, is a threat, possessing both impact and shock properties.

Even a tank will not be able to avoid taking massive damage unless they defend properly.

For a rearguard, it is an instant-death-level threat.

Because of their massive size, their attack range is also wide.

They also have the “Diamond Body” skill, which increases their defense and makes them physically tough, so you will have a hard time dealing damage once they go on the defensive.

They are incredibly strong against close-range physical attacks, but their weaknesses are also clear.

Since they only have one eye, their field of vision is somewhat narrow, and they are bad at judging distance, so they cannot really dodge long-range attacks.

Their eye is also an obvious weak point.

Also, they are not very smart.

If you have a solid tank, you can hunt them easily.

They do not use magic attacks either, so they are a good match for the muscle-brained Otto.

In terms of materials, they are mediocre—skin, fangs, horns, and bones have their uses, but the meat is unpopular.

 They are humanoid, after all.

Orcs and Minotaurs are also humanoid, but they are recognized as edible meat.

Cyclopes are not, and we do not eat them either.

Liese ate it once, but apparently, it was blander than she expected—or rather, it had almost no taste at all.

She was debating whether to eat it again, but when I told her other meats were more delicious, she gave up on it.

This is also food for Slajiro and the others.

So, while the 11th floor is not exactly a place for gourmet dining, Liese, the experience points are decent, and I decided to move my hunting ground here in anticipation of future battles.

Achieving A-Rank, which requires reaching the 11th floor, grants you quasi-nobility status, so I want to get there as soon as I can.

It is convenient for protecting the three slave girls, Liese, and the others.

Normally, it takes about twenty years to reach A-Rank.

For us, with our “transferee cheats,” it will take less than two years.

It has been a year and five months since I was reincarnated, and if I want to match the other female transferees, I will be about six months ahead.

However, they are progressing steadily and are apparently on the 18th floor now.

That is the floor where Karkinos—crabs—and Puppy Rock Dragons—rock sub-dragons—appear.

I changed the materials I sell to the guild to match that, too.

I am really just releasing them from my Item Box stock.

The Hero party should also be finding it harder to level up by now.

From here on out, the more time passes, the more the advantage shifts to me.

The Hero seems like a serious guy, so I do not think we will be enemies, but this is the phase where I need to build up my strength just in case I end up in a conflict with the Three Idiots.

Meta Tsedes asked, “Gabriela really came out of nowhere, didn’t she?”

”She was just a mob character until the last chapter,” the Narrator replied, “but apparently, she was promoted for the simple reason that ‘it seemed like I could write about her’.”

”That really is sudden,” Meta Tsedes noted. “Well, gyaru are a standard popular genre, I suppose.”

”The author apparently also likes hypnosis,” the Narrator added, “but it doesn’t fit his style, so he’s thinking about a different project.”

”That’s a pretty meta afterword,” Meta Tsedes remarked.

”It’s always been that way,” the Narrator concluded.
