Chapter 217 Saving Others Part One
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The alleyway was dim, shadows swallowing the small group of thugs as they dragged the girl deeper into the darkness. She struggled, her feet scuffing against the grime.
”No… please, just let me go! I’ll give you money!” the girl pleaded.1
She was dressed in a pristine school uniform and had only taken this shortcut to save a few minutes. She never imagined it would lead to this.
”Heh, don’t be scared, little sister,” the gang leader said, his eyes glinting with predatory hunger as he greedily scanned her body. “You’ll find out just how much fun this is in a second.”
He had not expected to stumble upon such high-quality prey today—not just cute, but clearly from a well-to-do household. Taking the risk in broad daylight? It was worth it.
”Boss, let’s do it here,” one of the thugs said impatiently. “I can’t wait.”
”Fine,” the leader replied. “Make it quick. Get your phones ready. Let’s get some nice shots of our little friend here.”
No sooner had the words left the leader’s mouth than the others lunged forward. The girl fought back, but it was futile. Two of them pinned her limbs against the wall, ripping apart the blue-and-white fabric of her uniform until buttons popped loose and scattered across the pavement.
They forced her legs apart with practiced ease. Her skirt was hiked up as she desperately struggled against them.
”Dammit,” one of the thugs spat. “I can’t take it anymore. I’m going first.”
The thug in the prime position fumbled with his belt, his eyes fixed on his target.
Before he could make another move, however, his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed.
The others did not even have time to react before they, too, dropped to the street one by one, silenced in the blink of an eye.
The girl, who had squeezed her eyes shut in sheer desperation, waited for the pain that never came.
She slowly opened them, stunned to see the men sprawled on the ground, their limbs twisted and motionless.
She took a tentative step toward the alley’s exit, then another.
They did not move.
She did not know what had happened—only that this was her chance.
Clutching her torn uniform to her chest, she scrambled away from the dark alley as fast as her trembling legs could carry her.
Aki, Maria, and Naruse Mio watched from the shadows, their forms slowly materializing as Aki dispelled the illusion.
”Aki… what are you going to do with those pieces of garbage?” Mio asked, her voice tight with revulsion as she instinctively stepped behind him.
They had only just teleported to this location, scouting routes and finalizing their rescue plan, when they stumbled upon the scene.
Aki had used a simple illusion to conceal them while they waited for the area to clear, but then the thugs had begun their little performance.
Seeing the girl’s expression—that pure, helpless terror—Mio had wanted to intervene.
Someone else had been faster.
She watched as the magic circle beside Aki slowly dissolved.
”Aki, that was… quite something,” Maria said.
”They were just local trash,” Aki replied in a detached tone. “Consider the street cleaned up.”
Aki flicked his wrist, sending clusters of pale blue flame toward the bodies.
Under his precise control, the thugs did not even have time to burn. They simply dissolved, vanishing into gas before Mio’s eyes.
”Aki… did you just kill them?” Mio whispered, her voice trembling slightly.
”Yeah,” Aki replied. “Let’s get back to the plan. We’ll mask our presence and fly in from a higher altitude to Maple Town.”
Mio nodded, trying to focus, but her mind was still spinning.
Aki and Maria unfurled their bat wings, ready to proceed according to plan, but Mio remained motionless.
”Naruse-classmate,” Aki asked, “can you fly on your own?”
As expected, she had not yet mastered the ability.
After a moment of thought, Aki said, “Naruse-classmate, if you do not mind, I can carry you.”
”Don’t… don’t get the wrong idea,” Mio huffed, turning her head away. “I just want to save my mom and dad quickly…”
Once they took to the sky, Aki shifted his hold into a princess carry, allowing Mio to wrap her arms around his neck for extra security.
…
Lost in her tangled thoughts, Mio barely noticed when the trio arrived above Maple Town.
”Aki, right there,” she said, pointing. “That house with the red roof to the southwest—that’s my home.”
Aki followed her gaze, locked onto the location, and descended.
”Wait here for a second. I’ll be right back.”
”Aki, please…” Mio looked at him, her eyes misting over. “You have to save my parents…”
Aki nodded.
”Don’t worry. You’ll be a family again soon.”
After reassuring her, he blinked out of sight and vanished toward the end of the street.
Three minutes later, concealed beneath an illusion spell, Aki approached the Naruse residence.
The enemies themselves were nothing to him.
The problem was the three demonic beasts positioned far too close to Mio’s parents.
If he acted now, he could only guarantee the safety of one of them.
He did not want to gamble.
But he no longer had time to wait.
The energy signatures of Mio’s parents were already fading.
