Chapter 218 Saving Them, Part Two
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Hesitating for only a moment, Aki suddenly hit upon an idea.
It was not guaranteed to work, but it was worth trying—and even if it failed, there was no real downside.
He quietly slipped away from the Naruse residence and hurried back to where he had parted ways with Mio and Maria.
”Aki! Did it work?” Mio asked, her voice tight with anxiety.
Seeing him return so quickly, hope surged within her. But as she looked around and failed to spot her parents, her heart immediately sank.
”Mom and Dad… where are they?”
”I haven’t made my move yet,” Aki replied, shaking his head.
He quickly explained the situation.
”The moment they let their guard down, I can get your parents out safely. But for that, I need you and Maria to cooperate.”
Mio did not hesitate.
”No problem. What do I need to do?”
”Simple. You and Maria just need to stir up some trouble and leak a little Mana.”
”Understood. When do we start?”
”In five minutes,” Aki said after calculating the timing. “Keep yourselves safe. One or two minutes will be enough. Any longer and they might start getting suspicious.”
After exchanging contact information and finalizing the plan, he rushed back to the Naruse residence to wait for his opportunity.
It would have been much easier if the kidnappers had answered their phones, allowing Mio to create a distraction by demanding proof of life or making up another excuse. Unfortunately, he would have to work with what he had.
The appointed time arrived.
BOOM!
Along with the explosion, two familiar bursts of Mana flared into existence.
The people inside the house did not recognize the sisters’ specific Mana signatures, but they were experienced enough to recognize power when they felt it.
One of the male Devils frowned, muttered something to his companion, and headed upstairs.
As expected, the one on the second floor appeared to be the leader.
Although they were all low-class Devils, his presence was noticeably sharper than the others’.
A moment later, he came back downstairs, spoke briefly with his subordinate, and whistled to the wolf-like demonic beast stationed beside Mio’s father.
The beast lazily padded toward him.
Aki, who had suppressed his presence to the point of becoming almost ghost-like, had been waiting for precisely this moment.
Before the remaining beast could move to fill the gap, his Mana erupted.
He burst through the window like a bolt of black lightning.
In a single fluid motion, he crushed the beast guarding Mio’s mother, seized her without hesitation, and reached her father, placing both of them behind him.
Everything happened in less than a second.
By the time he stopped moving, the nearest wolf-like beast had only just begun to comprehend what was happening.
It lashed out with its claws.
The air whistled from the force of the strike.
Then it stopped.
Ten centimeters from Aki’s chest, the claws slammed into a shimmering translucent barrier and could advance no farther.
”Whew…”
Seeing that both of Mio’s parents were still alive, Aki finally released a long breath.
(I overestimated these guys.)
A wry smile appeared on his face.
(Even without the distraction, they wouldn’t have reacted in time.)
Still, he did not regret his caution.
It was always better to be overly careful than to regret a mistake later.
”Who are you?!” one of the Devils barked.
The Devils immediately formed a defensive formation, repeatedly glancing toward the shattered corpse of the wolf-beast nearby.
Those creatures had been brought specifically to track Mio.
They were not elite, but they certainly were not weak.
If that punch had landed on them instead, they would have died just as quickly.
Ignoring the encirclement, Aki pulled out his phone and sent a LINE message.
[Plan successful. Your parents are safe.]
He put the phone away just as the Devil from upstairs and the remaining demonic beasts joined the formation.
Aki scanned the room and smiled.
”Is everyone here? That saves me the trouble.”
From the moment he agreed to help Mio, he had already considered the aftermath.
The Phoenix clan situation remained unresolved, and with the Three Factions Talk approaching, attracting unnecessary attention would only create problems.
The cleanest solution was to erase everything in flames.
Conveniently enough, it also aligned with the original world line of The Testament of Sister New Devil.
Since he needed to protect Mio’s parents, close-quarters combat was not ideal.
Fortunately, thanks to his Dual Cultivation talent, he possessed exceptional magical talent.
Against opponents of this level, there was no need for chanting.
A brilliant golden Magic Circle expanded across the living room.
Arcs of electricity crackled through the air.
To ensure none of his prey escaped, Aki chose his strongest option: lightning magic.
It was the first time he had used it since obtaining the complete Lightning Strike talent.
The results exceeded expectations.
Bolts as thick as a man’s arm tore through the room, each one claiming the life of a demonic beast.
Sensing imminent death, the three Devils desperately erected magical barriers.
Even the strongest shield lasted only three seconds.
With the complete Lightning Strike talent, Aki’s lightning carried the power of light, much like Akeno Himejima’s.
For Devils, it was a deadly weakness.
As their defenses shattered, each Devil released a final scream before their life force vanished.
When Mio and Maria arrived, they found nothing but scorched corpses and blackened ruins.
Aki was in the middle of casting a healing spell, struggling to stabilize the Naruse couple.
He excelled at destruction and combat.
Healing was another matter entirely.
He was practically an amateur.
Unfortunately, he still had not acquired a proper healing talent.
Asia probably possessed one, but since he had not yet tasted the blonde nun, that talent remained out of reach.
”Naruse-san, pack your essentials,” Aki said. “We’re leaving immediately.”
He did not want to remain here any longer than necessary.
”Before we go, I need you to use your magic to burn this house down.”
He was not trying to force events to follow the original plot.
It was simply the most efficient way to erase evidence.
Additionally, since Mio had only recently begun mastering fire magic, her Mana signature would help obscure his own, making it harder for Zogil to detect outside interference.
A perfect cover-up was impossible.
Buying time was enough.
There was no need to find extra corpses to stage as her parents.
Mio hesitated.
She had lived in this home for more than a decade.
But she also understood that now that the location had been exposed, she could never return.
Half an hour later, Mio and Maria returned to the living room, each dragging a suitcase.
”I’m ready,” Mio said softly.
”Fast work.”
”I only packed what really matters.”
She glanced at her unconscious parents, concern evident on her face.
”When do we leave?”
”Now.”
Aki ended the healing spell.
”I’m contacting Akeno-senpai. Once we get back, Asia can heal them properly.”
The operation had gone far more smoothly than expected.
Only half of their original three-hour window had passed.
Akeno was still in class, but five minutes later, a glowing red portal tore through the air.
Maria carried the Naruse couple through first.
Then Mio, channeling her Mana, reduced her home to an inferno before stepping through with her suitcase.
Aki waited a few moments, ensuring the fire had become unstoppable.
Then he stepped toward the portal.
(Huh?)
A prickling sensation suddenly crawled across his skin.
It felt as though thousands of tiny needles were pressing against him.
He stopped and immediately scanned his surroundings.
Nothing.
Aki trusted his instincts.
He erected a barrier and cast a sensory spell into the burning surroundings.
Invisible ripples spread outward.
One kilometer.
Five kilometers.
Ten kilometers.
Then they faded.
(Illusion?)
Ten kilometers was the limit of his current range.
He detected traces of supernatural activity, but that strange feeling never returned.
”Aki-chan?” Akeno called from the other side of the portal.
Akeno poked her head through, concern evident in her voice.
She immediately recoiled as the intense heat struck her.
The fire had already consumed most of the structure, and distant sirens were rapidly approaching.
”I’m fine. Let’s go.”
Although Aki did not believe it had been his imagination, he could not identify the source.
For now, he could only set the matter aside.
The absence of any obvious hostility was the only reason he chose not to investigate further.

Summary:
Aki successfully rescues Mio Naruse’s parents from a group of low-class Devils and demon beasts by utilizing a high-speed strike and precise lightning magic. Following the rescue, he orchestrates the destruction of the Naruse residence to cover their tracks before escaping through a portal opened by Akeno. Despite a fleeting feeling of being watched, Aki decides to prioritize their immediate safety and departs for home.

Trivia:
Aki relies on his Dual Cultivation talent to bypass chanting for his magic.
The rescue operation happens within half of the three-hour timeframe initially allotted.
Aki’s lightning magic is imbued with the power of light, causing it to be particularly effective against Devils.
Aki currently lacks a healing talent, which hinders his ability to treat the injuries sustained by the Naruse couple.
The feeling of being watched persists despite Aki’s sensory spell reaching its ten-kilometer limit.
