Volume 5 Chapter 26 The Sea of Flesh, or the Approaching Stench
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The thick, sweet musk of female bodies mixed with the lingering scent of s**men hung heavy in the bedroom air and filled my nose.
The pressure was heavy. As I tried to sit up, I realized why: the weight of the bodies pressing down on my abdomen was significant. Serafina’s silver hair tangled around my left arm, while Sylvia had buried her face deep into my right thigh. On the floor beneath the bed, Rene and Mina—who had taken part in last night’s “processing”—lay piled up like discarded mud, sleeping in complete exhaustion.
A sea of flesh.
The most beautiful and rarest elves in the world now lay slack and spent, their bodies smeared with the desires I had discarded.
”…Haa,” I exhaled.
I gently moved Sylvia’s head aside and rolled off the bed. I stood by the window, completely naked. From this room at the base of the World Tree, I could survey the entire Village of the Silver Moon, currently shrouded in morning mist. Golden light spilled in and illuminated the scene below.
It was no longer the marginalized, dying hamlet it had once been. It was now a rational, clean, well-managed city that I had built.
Translucent tubes ran through the center of the village like veins—Glass Ducts. They formed a seamless water infrastructure, created by adjusting the soil with my Earth Magic and then melting it into a unified form using the heat of Fire Magic. The days of unsanitary well-drawing and raw sewage discharge were over. Fresh water flowed constantly through the mains, and the sewage system swiftly carried filth away. This circulation system had given the residents both physical cleanliness and mental peace.
”Efficient,” I muttered to myself.
Smoke rose from the chimneys of the stone houses as breakfast was prepared, and the rejuvenated elves moved through the streets with energetic steps. It was a hygienic, functional paradise where everyone worshipped me and opened themselves to me. The level of completion was high. Yet as I watched, my heart held only a cold, detached sense of achievement, much like staring at a perfectly assembled plastic model on a shelf.
I descended to the Square for my morning inspection—or, as I liked to call it, equipment maintenance. As the residents caught sight of me, they fell to their knees one after another. It was not out of fear. They looked up at me with moist eyes and flushed cheeks, showing arousal and blind devotion.
”Spirit King-sama! Good morning!”
A man in work clothes approached, wiping his dirt-stained hands on his tunic. It was Gael, the stonemason. Behind him stood his wife, Elara, clutching a basket. Once she had been as withered as a dead tree, but now her skin carried a healthy glow from within. This was the result of the forced cellular activation brought on by my seed—rejuvenation. Her silver hair shone like moonlight, and her breasts and buttocks looked firm and ripe as perfect fruit, visible even through her clothes.
”How are things, Gael?” I asked.
”Yes! Everything is perfect!” Gael beamed as he pulled Elara forward. “Thanks to the water channels the King built, the work is so much faster!”
He let out a hearty laugh. “And… just look at her. Her skin is so radiant, and she’s just as amazing at night. I finish too quickly, but Elara says she just can’t forget your heat, King, and she cries with joy every single night.”
”…I see,” I replied.
”Hehe, I’m truly blessed,” Gael continued. “I’m just a lowly stone-cutter, and you’ve given me such an incredible woman. I have nothing but gratitude. Right, Elara?”
”Yes, my love…” Elara blushed, looking up at me with wet, longing eyes.
Even while standing next to her husband, her gaze was feverishly drawn to my groin. Adultery, sanctioned by the husband. No, to them, this was a divine blessing. I poured in my mana and received the highest quality of labor and loyalty in return. A win-win relationship.
…Ah, the logic held. Nothing was wrong here.
I praised Gael for his work and headed toward the forge. There, Kulum, the blacksmith, was fine-tuning a prototype of the new crossbow based on my blueprints.
”Boss, look at this,” Kulum said, clearly excited as he showed me the spring mechanism made of layered metal plates. “This ‘leaf spring’ structure… it’s incredible.”
”The trigger engagement is still loose,” I noted. “Increase the polishing precision. If you don’t reduce the friction coefficient, the firing lag will get you killed.”
”Yeah, yeah, you’re always so strict,” Kulum grumbled, though he grinned. “…But that strictness really gets me going.”
His wife, Melis, threw me a fawning, seductive glance. She, too, was one of those who had inherited my “Mana Heat Source Detection” and waited eagerly for our nightly “adjustments.” Everything was on track. The technical level was rising, and our armaments were being prepared. My possessions were functioning exactly as I intended.
Lunchtime.
On a bench in the Square, an elf couple was eating. The wife was feeding warm soup to her husband from a wooden bowl. A harmonious sight. Steam rose, caught the breeze, and brushed past my nose.
—Miso soup?1
In that instant, the scent of dried sardine dashi and fermented soybeans pierced my nasal passages. It was impossible. There was no miso in this world. But the phantom scent was violent and vivid, hacking into my memory centers.
”Papa, welcome home!”
”Dear, dinner is ready.”
My vision warped. The elf couple in front of me blurred like distorted video and overlapped with the figures of Yuki and Sachiko. Japan. Our cramped dining room. Our home. The sound of the TV. The hum of the fluorescent lights. The smell of daily life. The place I belonged.
…Sachiko’s gentle voice. Yuki’s radiant, bursting smile.
”……ッ!”
Crackle. Crunch.
A hard, metallic sound echoed in my hand. When I came back to my senses, I realized the glass wine goblet I had been holding was shattered into dust.
There was no pain. My subconsciously deployed Mana Shell had completely protected my skin. All that remained in my palm were red wine and shards of pulverized glass, dripping down like blood.
”…King?”
A worried voice called out from behind me. It was Sylvia. She had sensed the shift in my state and pressed herself against me without a sound. She took my hand and brought her lips to my palm, which was still wet with wine.
The rough sensation of her tongue followed. She meticulously licked away the red liquid, glass dust and all.
”…What is it?” she asked, her green eyes trembling with anxiety. “Were you looking at something far away again?”
She instinctively understood that the scenery I was looking at existed nowhere in this village. As if to fill the void of my agitation, Sylvia pressed her ample bosom against my arm and clung to me.
”I am here. Spirit King-sama… your Sylvia is here.”
”…Ah. Yeah. I know, Sylvia.”
I reached for her platinum-blonde hair and pulled her close. I painted over the loneliness with physical sensation. I dragged her into a secluded alley and pushed her against the wall. I did not even care to undress her properly. I hiked up her skirt, shifted her underwear aside, and plunged my stiffness into her already moist core in one thrust.
”Ngh, guhh…!” Sylvia let out a sound mixed with agony and pleasure.
Her v**inal walls constricted intensely, as if trying to hold me fast. It was warm. Soft. The sensation of living, breathing flesh. I began to thrust my hips, hammering into her deepest point over and over like driving in a wedge.
Slap, slap, slap!
The wet sound of flesh colliding echoed through the alley. Sylvia wrapped her arms around my neck and whispered words of love into my ear.
Even so.
At the moment of climax, the face of my Japanese wife crossed my mind.
It was hollow. This was a perfect paradise. Wine, women, status, power—everything was here. Sylvia… she was my lovely girl. But this was not my home. Sachiko and Yuki, waiting for my return, were not here.
With a cold, post-climax head, I looked up at the sky. Down at my feet, Sylvia was scooping up the overflow with her fingers and looking at it with lingering affection.
Suddenly, Sylvia’s hand stopped. Her fingertips, which had been dotingly playing with my member, twitched. She jerked her head up, flared her nostrils, and glared at the northern sky. Her long ears trembled minutely.
”…King,” she whispered. “The wind. It has changed.”
”The wind? What are you talking about?” I asked.
I could not feel it. The breeze brushing my cheeks was the same, filled with the scent of dirt and greenery and the damp air of the forest. But Sylvia’s beautiful face was twisted in a look of visceral, physiological disgust, as if she were looking at waste.
”I can smell it,” she said. “…The scent of rotting meat and burnt iron.”
I tried sniffing, but as expected, my human sense of smell could detect nothing. There was no change in the scenery before me. I thought about casting “Mana Detection,” but I stopped. My search radius was only a few dozen meters. It was far too short to catch a threat approaching from a distance.
But Sylvia’s animal instinct was absolute. If she said she could smell it, there was definitely a foreign object out there. Outside the “Wall of Rejection” that surrounded the village. The presence of uninvited guests trying to soil my garden.
”…Heh. The smell of garbage?” I grinned. “It’s time for a cleanup.”
Perfect. It seemed a punching bag to vent this misplaced irritation and nihilism had come looking for me.
