Chapter 250 A Vampire?
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Aki raised an eyebrow. It was just as he had calculated—a perfect, self-sustaining loop.
He glanced up at the clock. Considering the time, he could afford to bestow a bit more Life Essence this time around. There was only enough time left for one more round anyway, so the girls could just take their time absorbing the excess over the next few days.
If they couldn’t fully process it tomorrow, they could finish it the day after. It wasn’t like they had anything pressing to do, and who knew when their next scheduled treatment session would even be.
As a result, when the twin lolis, Marion and Brünte, finally headed back to the Underworld, both of them were sporting prominently distended bellies.
For a moment, Xue and the others were completely blindsided, genuinely wondering if the four of them had somehow gotten pregnant. But on second thought, it was physically impossible for someone’s belly to balloon up that much in a single night.
Once the truth finally came to light, the schoolgirls stood there staring at one another in stunned silence for a long time. Deep down, however, they found themselves anticipating their own treatment days even more.
After all, while they were constantly digesting that massive reserve of life energy in their bellies, the four who had received Aki’s treatment were recovering their strength and vitality at an absolutely terrifying pace.
By the time the energy was completely synthesized and absorbed, even if they weren’t back to one hundred percent, they would be damn near close to it.
Strike while the iron is hot.
Originally, Aki and Ravel had planned to power through the treatment sessions back-to-back. At an efficient rate of three to four girls per night, they could have treated all fourteen schoolgirls in just four days.
The plan was to get them through the initial treatment so they could regain a baseline level of strength, and then take the remaining sessions slow.
However, when Aki walked into the classroom the next morning yawning, a sudden piece of news forced him to put the treatments on pause.
”Basara, where exactly did you hear this rumor about a vampire?”
”Everyone’s talking about it. It’s been going around for a few days now. I thought you already knew.”
Sitting in Class 2-A, Aki fell into deep thought, his yawns completely forgotten.
Though he hadn’t slept a wink all night, he wasn’t actually tired. It was just a subconscious habit—feeling like he ought to yawn because he hadn’t slept.
The status of vampires in this world was incredibly bizarre. They clearly existed as a species, yet they lacked any real concept of a unified race or a so-called “Blood Faction.”
Instead, they felt more like anomalous entities born from individual mutations.
In the original timelines of both High School DxD and The Testament of Sister New Devil, a vampire had appeared in each. Yet, neither series offered any real lore regarding a broader vampire race.
Back then, Aki hadn’t found it strange at all. If Devils existed, then naturally, vampires weren’t anything to write home about.
But looking back on it now, he realized just how anomalous it really was.
Raking his brain for memories of his past life, Aki vaguely recalled that the vampire from DxD wasn’t even a traditional vampire. His true identity was actually the reincarnated consciousness fragment of Balor, the Evil Eye Demon God from Celtic mythology.
On the other hand, the one from Sister New Devil was an actual vampire whose mother happened to be an incredibly powerful True Ancestor.
If it was the latter, this wouldn’t be much of an issue. That particular gender-fluid vampire was actually very gentle.
In fact, with a little bit of effort, if he could coax them into permanently locking their gender as female, it would be even better.
But if it was the former…
Aki couldn’t recall all the exact details, but he was absolutely certain about one thing: that kid was a supreme crossdressing femboy. A blonde one, at that.
This was different from Yuuto. Yuuto’s gender presentation was already ambiguous to begin with, and she even had official gender-bent art.
So, while Aki had been shocked at first, it wasn’t outside the realm of acceptability.
But this other one was a textbook case of a shut-in femboy who looked entirely like a girl but was biologically male. He was incredibly timid, painfully shy, despised crowded places, hated talking to people, and had a bizarre obsession with cute things and his cardboard box.
More crucially, in the original light novels, this adorable boy would grow up thirty years later into a tall, rugged, hyper-masculine hunk, completely erasing any trace of his youthful femboy traits.
The moment he remembered that, Aki lost every shred of interest. He could only pray it wasn’t him this time…
And even if it was, he had to absolutely prevent him from becoming Rias’s Bishop (Evil Piece Servant)!
—
After giving Ravel a quick heads-up about postponing the treatments, Aki decided to spend the night getting to the bottom of this vampire incident.
The Three Factions Summit was just around the corner. If he didn’t resolve this now, the whole matter would likely drag on for a month or two, and by then, the ship would have long sailed.
Especially if it turned out to be the latter option. If they locked their gender to male during the delay, or if the convergence of the world timeline caused them to be charmed and conquered by Basara Toujou first, Aki wouldn’t even have a shoulder to cry on.
Aki actually knew a lot more about the latter candidate.
He quite liked her, and if possible, he wanted to form a Soul Contract with her.
Her name was Nanao Tachibana, a platinum-blonde, shoulder-length-haired dhampir—a half-vampire.
Because of the unique traits of dhampirs, her body constantly fluctuated between male and female forms. It wouldn’t be until reaching adulthood that her subconscious would finally settle on a permanent gender.
Her father was unknown, but her mother was a powerful True Ancestor known as the Crimson Lotus True Ancestor.
Of course, Aki couldn’t be one hundred percent certain if this world still adhered strictly to those rules, but the probability was high.
Up until now, while this world was a bit chaotic and mashed together, the core cast hadn’t changed drastically.
The biggest deviation so far was Yuuto, but even that was based on an existing alternative timeline possibility.
Aki immediately swung into action.
The first person he thought of was Rias. However, considering he was a member of the Occult Research Club (ORC) himself and had only just learned about the vampire from Basara Toujou, it was highly likely that Rias and the others were equally in the dark.
And the reality matched his expectations. After asking around in the Soul Network, the only piece of information he gathered was that the rumors had originated from the ordinary human student body.
The ORC had been overwhelmed with a cascade of events recently—from Mio Naruse seeking asylum to the intense Rating Game—so it was completely understandable that this had slipped under their radar.
Rias had been planning to launch an investigation herself, but seeing that Aki was already on the move, she happily delegated the entire task to him.
Aside from the Occult Research Club, the only other organization in Kuoh Academy with a more sensitive ear for information was the Student Council.
However, because of the pending Contract matter, Aki had been actively dodging Sona Sitri ever since the Rating Game ended. It looked like he couldn’t run from her today.
At 3:00 PM, the moment the final bell rang, he walked straight down the hall to the Student Council Room.
Knock, knock…
”Come in.”
Aki slowly pushed the door open. The clubroom currently held only Sona Sitri and Tsubaki Shinra; the rest of the council members hadn’t arrived yet.
”Oh, if it isn’t Lord Uesugi. To what do we owe the honor of your presence in a humble place like this? Surely you must have some pressing business.”
Sona Sitri barely lifted her gaze, the lenses of her glasses catching a sharp glint of white light before she returned her eyes to the documents in front of her. Her tone was completely flat and laced with sarcasm.
”Madam President, sarcasm really doesn’t suit your style.”
Aki held it in, but ultimately couldn’t resist throwing a retort right back.
The already stifling atmosphere instantly plummeted below freezing. Just as a visibly annoyed Sona was about to throw him out, Aki cut her off.
”Sona, I came here today to properly explain the situation regarding our Contract…”
Sona Sitri took a deep, steadying breath, suppressing the rising irritation in her chest.
She wanted to see exactly what kind of justification Aki could possibly come up with.
Clearly, she had approached him first. Yet, Aki had constantly been lingering around Rias, providing her with endless assistance, and now he had even gone ahead and signed a Contract with her.
In truth, Sona didn’t intend to force Aki into a Contract against his will. She could accept not signing one, but it was Aki’s evasive, ghosting attitude that truly infuriated her.
Now that the dust had settled on the Rating Game, he hadn’t intervened in the end anyway.
Following their duel, Riser Phoenix was effectively ruined, and Ravel had joined their camp. The need to keep the exact nature of the Soul Contract a secret was no longer as critical as it once was.
Thus, Aki laid out everything that had transpired recently, starting all the way back from the aftermath of the succubus loli incident.
Since the Student Council was already aware of the succubus loli infiltrating Kuoh Academy, his explanation bridged the gaps perfectly.
”So, that’s the long and short of it.”
Aki accepted a glass of water handed to him by Tsubaki Shinra, cleared his throat, and concluded, “It’s not that I’m unwilling to sign a Contract with you, Sona. It’s just that it is physically impossible for me to do so.”
Once the true nature of the Soul Contract was brought to light, Sona Sitri found herself unable to stay angry.
By nature, she was a deeply logical and analytical person. Now that the misunderstanding was thoroughly cleared up, her mind immediately pivoted to weighing the pros and cons of the situation.
