Chapter 258 The Goddess of Luck Returns

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Day 119, Night – 14th Stratum, Gacha Temple

”W-We finally made it…” Karen groaned as she collapsed onto the carpeted floor.

”I’m completely wiped out…” Leticia murmured, sinking down beside her.

The moment we stepped into the Gacha Temple, half the party folded where they stood. Even Sheena wiped a hand across her brow.

”That was brutal, even for us.”

”I am… entirely unfazed,” Lunaria replied, standing ramrod straight.

Only Lunaria looked fresh, which would have been impressive if she had not been the main reason the rest of us were exhausted.

Her equipment was in terrible shape. The breastplate of her armor had been torn open, her sword looked like it had been chewing on rocks all day, and I was already mentally calculating the cost of replacing both.

The magic armor’s barrier was decent, but I knew its limits. Two direct hits from an Orc would break it. One clean Fireball could strip it away entirely.

 Lunaria knew that too.

That did not stop her from charging alone into a pack of twenty Orcs after triggering a Monster Magnet trap.

Nor did it stop her from ignoring Sheena’s orders and diving into another swarm later.

Sure, our clear speed had been fantastic.

On the other hand, she had probably shaved several years off both my life expectancy and Sheena’s.

The only reason she escaped with minor injuries was because Leticia spent the entire day covering her with Light Ring and Heal.

Now she lounged against a pillar with a smug expression, looking entirely too pleased with herself.

I groaned and dropped down beside the others.

Sayaka-sama immediately handed me a chilled canteen from her Magic Bag.

 ”Thanks.”

One sip of iced coffee later, I felt vaguely human again.

Earlier that morning, Sayaka-sama, Leticia, and I had each taken a Tier 3 Mana Recovery Potion before entering the dungeon.

Tier 4 potions multiplied recovery fivefold. Tier 3s doubled that effect, letting a completely depleted mana pool recover in roughly two and a half hours.

 They were also absurdly expensive.

 A Tier 4 cost 10,000 DP.

 A Tier 3 cost 50,000.

In the Deep Zone of the Inner Perimeter1, though, running out of mana was the same thing as dying, so there was not much room for debate.

Even with those buffs, two Monster Magnet traps and the endless horde battles around the castle walls nearly pushed us over the edge.

The treasure chest trap had been the worst.

From the second-floor balcony, Sayaka-sama and I rained magic into the swarm while Sanae and Karen fired nonstop. It was the perfect setup.

Then Lunaria decided it looked fun and jumped over the railing.

I nearly had a heart attack.

By the end, Sheena, the tames, and I had to dive down after her.

Some days I genuinely wondered whether she had a survival instinct at all.

* * *

”Alright! It’s finally time!” Karen declared, springing back to life. “Gacha time, everyone!”

”A twenty-pull on the Silver Gacha…” Leticia murmured. “This is what I live for.”

Sheena nodded. “Including yesterday’s leftovers, we can also perform at least fifty consecutive Bronze Gacha pulls, Master.”

The exhaustion vanished from the room almost instantly.

Truly, the power of gambling was terrifying.

”A twenty-pull on the Silver Gacha puts us at fifty total rolls,” I said. “Statistically, we should be due for a gold.”

”We are absolutely sticking to the turn order we agreed on yesterday,” Karen declared.

”Hah! I secured the honor of the final roll,” Sheena said proudly.

”I heard you specifically ask for that position,” Sanae replied.

 ”You must be mistaken.”

 ”I am not.”

”If you would like my place, I am willing to yield it.”

 ”Actually, never mind.”

As usual, Sheena somehow managed to bully Sanae while sounding perfectly polite.

And so our Gacha Festival began.

Leticia took the first turn while the machine played its cheerful chiptune fanfare. The transparent chamber flashed through its usual flashy sequence before the light finally settled on a disappointing bronze glow.

As Leticia’s shoulders drooped, two bronze capsules and a single white dud rolled into the tray.

”Don’t even sweat it, Leti!” Karen declared, slapping her on the shoulder. “I’ll avenge you right now.”

With that, she stepped up to the machine and confidently fed in her G-Coins.

A silver capsule and three bronze capsules dropped out.

 Not terrible.

 Unfortunately, it was not gold.

Karen’s triumphant grin immediately softened into a conflicted frown.

Since they had agreed to save all silver capsules until the end, Karen stepped aside and Leticia took another turn. This time she managed to pull a silver capsule of her own.

By the fortieth roll, however, Karen’s next attempt produced nothing but three bronze capsules.

”Ugh… I really thought that was going to be gold.”

”The desire sensor is particularly cruel today,” Leticia replied.

Then Sheena stepped forward as though the true protagonist had finally arrived.3

Clutching her G-Coins, she marched toward the Bronze Gacha machine with all the dignity of a conquering hero.

Sayaka-sama and I exchanged a glance and quietly held back our laughter.

 Sheena gripped the dial.

 Twisted.

 The machine spun.

 The chamber lit up.

 Bronze.

 ”Wh-What?!”

For the first time all evening, her composure visibly cracked.

Apparently, she had completely convinced herself that a gold capsule was guaranteed.

 (Gakon! Gakon! Gakon!)

The machine rattled loudly before producing a single bronze capsule surrounded by white duds.

”Bwahaha! So close, Sheena! One more push and you could’ve pulled the legendary all-white trash roll again!” Sanae crowed.

 ”……”

 Sheena slowly turned around.

Only then did I notice the activated spell scroll in her hand.

 Sanae noticed it too.

She immediately dove behind my back.

”W-Wait! Calm down! You can go first on the Silver Gacha! I surrender!”

”Using a high-tier spell scroll over a gacha roll is excessive,” Lunaria observed.

Karen hurried over to restrain Sheena while Leticia carefully removed the scroll from her trembling fingers.

”Sanae, you never learn,” Sayaka-sama sighed.

”She’s always the one bullying me!” Sanae protested. “Why shouldn’t I get one shot back? Right, Lunaria?”

”…Mm. The foul-mouthed, violent rabbit is entirely at fault.”

”Tch…” Sheena clicked her tongue. “Forgive my lapse, Karen. Leticia. I shall demonstrate my true abilities on the Silver Gacha.”

A vein pulsed visibly on her forehead.

Even so, she managed to preserve enough dignity to avoid committing murder in front of the group.

I silently accepted that this was simply a normal day for my harem.

Meanwhile, Karen and Leticia began opening their hard-earned silver capsules.

 ”Oh! It’s a halberd!”

Karen immediately summoned a massive Black Steel weapon.

”My turn…” Leticia examined her reward. “A blue necklace? Wait. Look at this description. It’s a Talisman of Life.”

 My stomach dropped.

 (…Are you serious?)

I stared at the blue diamond-shaped medallion hanging from the necklace.

 Last night.

 Last night.

After getting injured and being thoroughly lectured by Sayaka-sama, I had spent 200,000 DP on that exact item.

Now it casually dropped from a gacha pull.

”Did… did I get something bad?” Leticia asked quietly.

Her expression immediately made me feel guilty.

 ”No! Not at all!”

I quickly scooped her up into my arms and patted her head.

”It’s incredible. A complete jackpot. You did great, Leticia.”

”Mm.” Leticia relaxed instantly. “I am a highly useful woman.”

”Absolutely. You’re an irreplaceable sensual maiden4 of this party.”

”Yes, I am a sacred maiden… Wait. Yakumo, was your pronunciation strange just now?”

 ”Must’ve been your imagination.”

 Sayaka-sama giggled.

”Hehe. Why don’t we give the Talisman of Life to Lunaria?”

”I agree,” Sheena said immediately. “The Princess is a complete muscle-brain in combat, making her the member most likely to require an emergency safeguard.”

 ”Good point.”

 Nobody argued.

If anyone needed an extra life, it was Lunaria.

I stepped behind her and fastened the necklace around her neck.

As soon as I finished, she turned around, wrapped her arms around me, and pulled me into a deep kiss.

”My, my…” Sheena smiled. “The Princess’s awakening seems to be progressing nicely.”

I returned the kiss while Lunaria pressed herself against me without the slightest hesitation.

After storing the Black Steel halberd in Sayaka-sama’s Magic Bag, the entire group gathered around the Silver Gacha machine.

”Alright, everyone!” Karen announced. “Time for the grand finale! Twenty Silver Gacha pulls!”

”Ohhh!” Leticia raised a fist. “This is where legends are born!”

Sheena lifted her chin proudly, already recovered from her earlier defeat.

”Master, please watch closely as I bring this stratum’s suffering to an end.”

 ”Haha. I’m counting on you.”

I handed over the Silver G-Coins.

(Seriously. Nobody raises death flags faster than this girl.)5

With everyone’s hopes resting on her shoulders, Sheena vigorously turned the dial.

The room immediately plunged into darkness.

 Stars appeared across the ceiling.

They spiraled upward before gathering into a single shooting star.

 The star completed one circuit.

 No change.

 ”O-One more time!”

The shooting star looped around again while everyone stared upward.

Karen and Leticia clasped their hands together.

Even Sanae had gone completely silent.

 ”Upgrade already!” she finally shouted.

 The star ignored her.

Moments later, it crashed into the machine.

 The chamber flashed.

 Bronze.

 ”No way…”

 The color never upgraded.

One by one, the capsules rolled out.

 Bronze.

 Bronze.

 Bronze.

 All ten were bronze.

 Sheena dropped to her knees.

Ten bronze capsules rolled across the floor in front of her.

 Even Sanae looked uncomfortable.

(Collecting two flags in a row… In a weird way, she’s impressively consistent.)6

 ”Ahhh…” Karen groaned.

 ”What a tragedy,” Leticia whispered.

”Well, it happens,” I said. “There’s always tomorrow.”

”True…” Karen rubbed her chin. “The flow’s terrible right now. Maybe Sayaka should take the last pull.”

When I smiled at her, Sayaka-san returned it with one of her own before walking toward the Gacha machine.

(She really is adorable. It’s hard to believe a face that pure and innocent can melt into such a different expression when we’re alone together. She truly is an amazing woman.)

Unfortunately, remembering last night was not doing my concentration any favors.

Meanwhile, Sayaka-san calmly fed the coins into the Silver Gacha machine.

A short distance behind her, Sheena-san—who had only recently stopped being comforted by Feli licking her face—stood with her arms crossed and a confident smile.

”Sayaka-sama will definitely do it,” she declared proudly.

A bad feeling immediately crept up my spine.

Still smiling wryly, Sayaka-san grasped the dial and turned it without the slightest sign of nervousness.

 The room darkened.

Countless stars appeared across the ceiling, gathering into a single silver shooting star that began circling overhead.

”Wow! As expected of Sayaka!” Karen-san squealed.

”Excited,” Leticia-san agreed, her eyes shining.

The guaranteed silver animation had already sent the two of them into a frenzy.

Behind Sayaka-san, Sheena-san nodded with her arms still folded, wearing the expression of a veteran master overseeing a promising disciple.

(Why is the rabbit acting like she’s responsible for this?)

The silver shooting star completed its first circuit.

 Then, midway through the second—

”I-It’s gold!” Sayaka-san cried, pointing at the ceiling.

 The silver light flashed.

 Gold.

 ”Whoaaaaa!”

Karen-san and Leticia-san shouted in unison.

”You did it, Sayaka!” I yelled, pumping my fist.

The golden shooting star streaked downward and slammed into the machine.

The transparent casing lit up with a brilliant golden glow as the imitation capsules spun wildly inside.

Then the machine released its reward with a heavy clunk.

A gold capsule rolled into the tray.

”Yes! Yes, yes, yes! We did it!” Karen-san shouted, throwing both arms into the air.

”It’s huge!” Leticia-san exclaimed as she leaned closer.

”Hah…” Sayaka-san let out a long breath. “Thank goodness.”

Karen-san and Leticia-san immediately wrapped her in a celebratory hug.

At that moment, golden confetti drifted down from above.

 Looking up, I spotted Saizou.

Apparently, he had prepared this in advance.

(When did he even set that up? He’s ridiculously thorough.)

 Clunk.

 Clunk.

 The machine was not finished.

To everyone’s surprise, a silver capsule rolled out after the gold.

”We got a silver too!” Karen-san cheered. “As expected of a goddess!”

”This is the power of the secret weapon,” Leticia-san whispered in awe.

”As expected of Sayaka-sama!” Sheena-san declared triumphantly.

”Amazing, Sayaka! As expected of my best friend!” Sanae-san laughed, smacking her on the back.

”Please stop already…” Sayaka-san pleaded, burying her face in her hands.

She looked ready to disappear from embarrassment.

I stepped beside her and rested a hand on her shoulder.

”Don’t be embarrassed. Thanks to you, we can finally move on to the next step. You really are my goddess.”

 ”A goddess…” Sayaka-san repeated softly.

 Her cheeks turned bright red.

”But if Goshujinsama is happy… then yes.”

She gave a small nod, unable to hide her smile.

(Damn. She’s so cute it’s dangerous.)

Still, there was something more important to check first.

 The prizes.

If I remembered correctly, the gold reward was supposed to include something besides the Entry Permit.

 And honestly—

I could not wait to see what was inside.

 —

 Summary:

Collapsing onto the carpeted temple floor, the heavily exhausted party unloads their gear and laments the depletion of their arrows and mana supplies following consecutive boss and mob encounters near the castle walls. Turning their focus toward rolling their accumulated hoard of Silver and Bronze coins, the girls banter, play tricks with turn orders, and suffer disappointing drops from the low-tier prize pools. The tense dynamic reaches a peak when a high-value duplicate accessory reveals a sudden financial setback for Yakumo, leaving the party exposed to the volatile, uncalculated outcomes of Sheena’s impending premium gacha pull.

Swirling stars light up the dark room as Sheena rolls a disappointing all-bronze batch from the Silver Gacha machine. Stepping up to relieve the mounting tension, Sayaka triggers a breathtaking rarity upgrade sequence that converts a silver light directly into a golden shooting star. The party erupts into rowdy celebration while Saizou showers them with handmade golden confetti from above. The protagonist struggles to keep his explicit physical desires in check while preparing to inspect their long-awaited drops.

 —

 Trivia:

Tier 3 Mana Recovery Potions increase passive regeneration by a factor of ten, allowing full recovery within 2.4 hours.

Yakumo spent exactly 200,000 DP out of pocket to purchase a single Talisman of Life right before Leticia dropped one via a bronze coin reward pool.

The Talisman of Life breaks upon a single activation and offers completely zero protection against localized environment hazards, freezing elements, or high-tier continuous dragon damage.

Sheena holds onto video evidence of Lunaria’s window disciplinary training session using a smartphone lent to her by Leticia.

Black Steel armaments possess immense weight profiles that require both hands to wield effectively, making them unusable for defensive shield-bearing vanguard configurations like Rock’s.

The base drop rate for a silver capsule in this specific gacha setup is exactly 5%.

Silver G-Coins drop at a much higher efficiency around the castle architectures of the Inner Perimeter Deep Zone.

Buildings in the castle perimeter can drop up to four Silver G-Coins simultaneously.

Saizou sneaks ahead into high rafters ahead of time to manually store and drop surprise confetti for favorable milestones.

Hanako routinely spectates explosive celebratory group milestones without displaying any outward enthusiasm.

The primary target item for the party’s current progression hurdle is labeled an Entry Permit.
