Chapter 77 The Demon Princess and the Final Boss’s Throne

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

According to the game script I played in my past life, the true final boss of this story is the demon lord Orcus. I’d always assumed he was the current king of the Demon Realm or something along those lines. But apparently, that wasn’t quite right.

Ashraf’s lips curled into a smirk.

That unsettling smile made me wary.

”By the way, Ashraf. Is the Demon Realm ruled by a princess? Not a queen, but—”

I held Lilia in my arms as I questioned the demon behind me.

”To have noticed that… as expected of Xenos-sama.”

No, it wasn’t exactly a profound observation. Still, as always, his flattery felt hollow. I appreciated the praise, but there was something undeniably shady about the way he delivered it.

”The Demon Realm currently finds itself without a sovereign following the passing of His Majesty the former Demon King. His daughter, Luficiel-sama, has provisionally assumed the throne. I have taken the liberty of broaching the subject of placing that esteemed lady under your dominion, Xenos-sama.”

 ”Hm. That does sound interesting.”

I put on a show of interest, keeping my expression composed. But internally— Wait, hold on. Cold sweat ran down my spine.

The next Demon King would almost certainly be that Orcus fellow. Reaching for the throne now, when the current ruler was only a temporary placeholder until a new Demon King was installed… wasn’t that an incredibly risky move? Besides, how exactly was I supposed to get to this princess’s domain in the first place? Even if I managed to make this princess my dedicated slave, controlling her wouldn’t mean controlling the entire Demon Realm.

(What’s the point of making a princess my subordinate? Seems like I’d just be stirring up unnecessary trouble by meddling… But then again, playing along with this might give me a lead on what that bastard is really scheming.)

While I racked my brains behind a stoic mask—

Ashraf apparently took my silence as agreement and began moving the conversation forward on his own.

”Then, I shall slip ahead and infiltrate near Luficiel-sama’s quarters. Xenos-sama, pray take your time and follow at your leisure.”

With that, he vanished without waiting for my response.

…Hey. That phrasing made it sound like I was about to go creeping into some woman’s bedchamber. I wanted to protest, but he was already gone. He’d teleported to the Demon Realm.

Well, fine. I could track my servant Ashraf’s destination precisely using his mana signature as a marker. Teleporting to his location wouldn’t be difficult.

”…Xenos-sama. Is that demon’s proposal not far too dangerous?”

Lilia’s worried voice came from within my embrace. Her faint trembling and obvious caution stirred something in my chest.

”Don’t worry,” I said, my voice a soothing murmur as I gently stroked her soft cheek. “I’ve no intention of doing anything truly reckless. Besides, it wouldn’t hurt to pay this so-called Demon Realm princess a visit and say hello.”

I didn’t need to follow Ashraf’s plan to the letter. I could just greet her and come back without doing anything else. And if things looked bad… I could always teleport out immediately. Besides, once I teleported to a place, I could always return there afterward. Even just establishing a teleportation point in the Demon Realm—a gateway—would make this trip worthwhile.

All things considered, Ashraf’s idea wasn’t terrible. This was an unexpected opportunity. I couldn’t afford to miss the chance to gather intelligence on the Demon Realm’s geography and political situation.

”I’ll be away for a while,” I said, brushing Lilia’s cheek. “I’m counting on you to handle things here.”

Her large eyes wavered with unease. To wipe that worry away, I kissed her—deep and lingering. The softness of her lips, the faint sweetness of her scent… it all calmed my heart.

”…Take care, Xenos-sama. May fortune favor you.”

Her worried voice at my back, I focused my mind and teleported to the Demon Realm. Light enveloped my body, and my vision went white in an instant.

The place I’d teleported to was dim. The air was heavy and cold. A faint scent, like burning incense, drifted in the air.

 (This is… a bedroom, isn’t it?)

There was almost no lighting. Not pitch black, but visibility was hazy, and I couldn’t make out the full extent of the room. It was spacious, the furnishings luxurious. But a chill permeated the space. For all its ornate decoration, there was no warmth to be found. The floor beneath me was black marble. That light-absorbing surface made the entire atmosphere of the room feel even heavier, more oppressive.

I sensed Ashraf’s presence some distance away. He was crouched in the shadows of a far corner, bowing his head deeply and elegantly in my direction. That bastard could infiltrate even the Demon Realm princess’s bedchamber without anyone noticing. He was that preternaturally skilled at stealth. His ability was undoubtedly… top-class, even among the demon hosts.

I’d already copied his technique, of course. If I’d used it, I could’ve appeared here without anyone detecting me. But this time—I chose not to. I’d come to offer a greeting, after all. Sneaking around stealthily seemed discourteous. So I’d teleported without hiding my presence, straight into the heart of the princess’s bedchamber.

Naturally, the room’s occupant—still in bed—immediately sensed my arrival. Her gaze fixed on me through the darkness, quiet and sharp.

 ”—Who are you?” she demanded.

Her voice was as lovely as wind chimes, yet laced with ice. It carried the clear, composed resonance of a ruler, and I felt my heart tremble slightly.

”I’ve come to pay my respects, Luficiel-sama.”

I delivered those words with full courtesy, perfect posture, and a smile I thought was quite fetching. Toward the Demon Realm’s princess, emerging from the shadows.

She sat up in bed, unable to hide her surprise. Her silver hair caught the moonlight, its pale reflection setting off her porcelain skin. Her eyes, carrying both wariness and… a faint spark of curiosity, held me fixed in her gaze.

 Summary:

Xenos teleports to the Demon Realm after Ashraf’s proposal to approach the provisional ruler, Princess Lucifiel, despite internal doubts about the risks of meddling with the succession. He reassures Lilia with a kiss before departing, then arrives in Lucifiel’s bedchamber where she confronts him with wary curiosity. The chapter ends with Xenos facing the Demon Realm’s princess, his intentions still unclear and her reaction hanging in the balance.

 —

 Trivia:

Xenos knows Orcus is the true final boss from the game script he played in his past life.

Ashraf’s flattery is deliberately hollow and manipulative, not genuine praise.

The Demon Realm is currently without a sovereign and being ruled provisionally by Lucifiel.

Xenos has already copied Ashraf’s stealth technique but chose not to use it when visiting Lucifiel.

Teleporting to a location allows Xenos to return there anytime afterward.

Ashraf can infiltrate even the princess’s bedchamber undetected, demonstrating top-class stealth abilities.

Lilia’s trembling and caution contrast with her composed words, showing her genuine worry.

The kiss scene reveals Xenos’s genuine warmth breaking through his calculating exterior.

Lucifiel’s voice is described as lovely yet cold, with a ruler’s composed resonance.

The marble floor in Lucifiel’s chamber absorbs light, contributing to the room’s oppressive atmosphere.
