Chapter 95 In Search of the Kidnapped Princess, and a Student’s Place

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Hawks, the hawk beast-kin operative, brought back some highly useful intel.

Based on that, I decided to set out in search of the “Explosion-Killing Angel,” Princess Liliana.

But then, a single worry came up—trivial, yet impossible to ignore.

What was I going to do about school?

In this world, the academy for nobles wasn’t the kind of place where you had to show up every single day without fail. I’d already skipped a few times myself, after all. At the end of the day, it was just a low-priority facility—a game-world backdrop reflected in reality. It wasn’t the kind of strict institution that would expel you for too many absences.

If anything, money, power, and connections could solve just about anything.

That was my opinion, and it probably wasn’t wrong.

Still, the social interactions between nobles and the actual studying that took place there did have their benefits. The socializing, especially, was more useful than I’d ever imagined.

Thanks to this “school” stage, I’d been able to build connections with key figures. The students who attended were surprisingly hard to ignore.

The “public opinion” formed within their aristocratic circles was nothing to scoff at. If I skipped school now, I’d be inviting unwanted suspicion upon myself. Looking at it from that angle, attending classes suddenly felt quite important.

After all, the kingdom’s princess had been kidnapped by some unknown party—an emergency like no other. Prince Liam and his retainers would probably skip today as well.

But they’d be absent for the search efforts.

My reason for skipping, on the other hand—”I had a long night and I’m sleep-deprived”—felt a bit too weak to justify.

Besides, the fact that the prince had conducted a search of my theater was bound to spread quickly among the academy’s students.

If I were to be absent today, rumors would inevitably draw the easy, convenient conclusion: “He must be the true mastermind behind Princess Liliana’s kidnapping.”

At breakfast, I shared my concerns with Cecilia and Lizel and discussed our plans for the day.

Cecilia set down her teacup with a quiet clink. “Xenos, you absolutely must show your face at school today. Even if you’re late.”

Lizel nodded firmly, her brow furrowed. “I agree entirely. If you’re absent now, people will talk. You know how they are.”

They strongly insisted that I should at least show my face at school, even if late. Apparently, they’d been harboring the exact same worries.

 ”Yeah. You’re right.”

Just making an appearance would make a world of difference in how others perceived me.

After breakfast, I moved to a separate room and summoned the Teleportation demon, Ashraf. I ordered him to head on ahead to the abandoned church that served as the kidnappers’ hideout.

The group behind the abduction had probably raised their guard fully by now. But with Ashraf’s uncanny abilities, he should be able to infiltrate without issue.

And if he scouted the location first, I could teleport there at any time using my Teleportation Magic.

”Listen, Ashraf. If Liliana’s in any danger, inform me immediately. If there’s no time to waste, you’re authorized to act on your own. Rescue the princess.”

Ashraf bowed deeply, his form seeming to ripple with shadow. “As you command, Xenos-sama. I shall not fail you.”

Ashraf bowed reverently—and melted into the shadows like he was being absorbed by the darkness, creepy as always.

After that, I headed to school with Cecilia and Lizel.

We always had spare academy uniforms stocked at Grimlock Manor. I used my Teleportation Magic to retrieve them from our respective rooms.

Once changed, the three of us—all together now—climbed into the same carriage. At some point, neither Cecilia nor Lizel seemed to mind riding together with me anymore.

The fact that our relationship was far more than a mere political engagement—that we were genuinely close—was already well known among most students at the academy.

There was no point in hiding it now.

We arrived at school slightly late, and the atmosphere was distinctly different from usual.

No one was rude enough to make a scene, of course. But the air was tense—painfully so.

The kingdom’s princess had been kidnapped. That shocking news had probably spread like wildfire by this morning, and the entire student body was already aware of the situation.

And I’d been a suspect for a time. The rumor that my theater had been forcibly searched by Prince Liam and his people had snowballed, carrying extra embellishments until it sounded like I was the true mastermind behind the whole affair.

My name had been cleared after the search came up empty… but even so, I still caught appraising looks here and there.

(Well, that’s to be expected, I suppose.)

As I’d predicted, Prince Liam, his retainers, and even Elenor were absent from school today.

I went through my lessons as usual, staying calm in that surreal atmosphere—until, eventually, the school day ended without incident.

By then, the tense mood among the students had finally settled back into its usual calm.

And throughout that entire time, I hadn’t received a single emergency contact from Ashraf.

”…Which means that, for now, that ‘Angel-sama’ isn’t in any immediate danger.”

I muttered quietly to myself, alone in the carriage on the way home.

Maybe the kidnappers were treating her with the respect owed to a VIP.

Or maybe—this was all unfolding exactly according to her own script.

Either way, I’d have my answer tonight. I was quietly certain of it.
