Three days passed. The chill of early winter arrived—and with it came another invitation from the young Devil woman.
As expected, those old fossils in the Cardinal Council couldn’t pass up such a golden opportunity. Faced with Aki’s firm stand, they gave in—but barely.
Naruse Mio was only allowed to bring two people to the Demon King’s Castle—and neither of those spots could be Aki or Rias.
Not happy with just limiting the numbers, they also cut out the two most dangerous elements: the Red Dragon Emperor and the Gremory household’s heir.
Setting aside Aki and Rias’s raw strength, even their identities alone would be enough to draw attention. If they set foot in Leohart’s domain, the young Demon King would have no choice but to take notice—and countless external factions would turn their gaze there as well.
That kind of attention was the last thing the Cardinals wanted.
Even if their scheme went smoothly, if anyone found out they’d been working with the Old Devil faction, they’d have to flee to the Abyss and live a miserable life in a sunless hell.
With their age and weak strength, they’d soon become fuel for the Abyss itself.
This time, Naruse Mio agreed when Aki gave the signal.
This was probably the absolute limit of what the Cardinal Council’s undying old bastards could accept—and it took three days of talks to get there.
Aki worried if he pushed any further, the old men might swallow their pride and scrap the plan entirely.
If the Cardinals really dropped their plot to harm Naruse Mio, he’d lose his excuse to pursue his own interests—investigating Sephie, the younger sister of the former Demon King, and that lewd little Devil schoolgirl with atavistic traits hidden away somewhere.
As for them not letting him go…

Beyond Zolgear’s infamous “Paradise,” there existed another Devil within the Cardinal Council—one who delighted in breaking and tormenting women for his own pleasure.
His name was Bellgus.
An hour later, after considerable discussion, the final decision was made: the two spots accompanying Naruse Mio would go to Shela and Lucia.

Aki had carefully weighed the selection of Shela and Lucia.
Shela excelled at Transportation Magic Circles, knew the Demon King’s Castle intimately, and was no slouch in combat. Bringing her along meant he wouldn’t have to worry about her—and more importantly, she could discreetly gather information about Sephie and Liala on his behalf.
Lucia, meanwhile, was calm and steady, with experience as head maid and secretary of the Ramses estate—making her the perfect choice to handle diplomacy alongside Naruse Mio.
With the personnel decided, Naruse Mio—cradling Aki, who had transformed into a black cat—made her way to the drawing room alongside Shela and Lucia.
”Mio-sama… is that cat…?”
”My familiar.”
Naruse Mio hugged Aki tighter to her chest, letting out a little huff. “What’s the matter? Can’t even bring a pet cat along?”
”Of course not, Mio-sama.”
The young Devil woman assigned to escort them gave an awkward laugh before speaking with careful deference. “However, would you permit me to conduct a brief inspection?”
Though she didn’t fully understand why the Cardinal Council had forbidden Naruse Mio from bringing too much protection, she was determined to follow her orders to the letter—her own life depended on it.
If that cat turned out to be some kind of powerful magical beast—or worse, someone in disguise—then once they arrived in the Underworld, Naruse Mio might or might not survive, but she, the courier, would most certainly die.
”Mio, let her check.”
Naruse Mio put on an exaggerated show of displeasure, then, at Shela’s amused urging, handed the black cat over.
Aki, ever the drama queen, let out a few convincing meows, pretending he didn’t want to leave the comfort of Naruse Mio’s soft chest.
After his breakthrough to God-tier, his Talent bloodline ability had been upgraded and integrated—and the Nekomata transformation was no exception.
Not only had the transformation’s power and physical limits been removed, but its stealth and speed had also gotten a big boost.
Thanks to the bloodline fusion, the blue-gray leopard-cat appearance from before had changed into something more mysterious and elegant—a sleek black cat.

The young Devil woman sighed resignedly. After all, she’d been the one who’d initiated the petting; it wouldn’t be proper to complain now.
A Magic Circle connecting to the Demon King’s Castle spatial coordinates materialized at her feet, then extended beneath Naruse Mio, Shela, and Lucia.
”Mio-sama, Shela-sama—we shall depart now.”
Meanwhile, in a dimly lit chamber thick with purple mist, Bellgus—who had inherited Zolgear’s legacy and was currently amusing himself with a female Devil—received word that Naruse Mio was about to arrive at the Demon King’s Castle.
”Aaah! Mmmph—”
In his momentary excitement, Bellgus lost control of his grip. The voluptuous Devil woman in his arms—her cheeks flushed, her massive breasts distorted in his grasp—let out a sharp cry before her eyes went vacant. She slumped bonelessly onto the bed.

Bellgus ran his tongue over his purple-black, inhuman lips, then turned to the attendant standing beside him. “Alright, bring in the next batch.”
As he spoke, the busty Devil sprawled across the bed exhaled her final breath.
A closer look revealed five or six other beautiful female Devils lying in disarray around her—some slender, some voluptuous, all disheveled, all lifeless.
Compared to Bellgus’s monstrous appearance, the dead female Devils looked almost indistinguishable from human women, save for the small horns atop their heads and their medieval-style attire.
Times had changed. The Devil bloodline, once made solely for war, had faded over time. The new generation of devils—and angels too—grew closer to humans: the most common and bloodline-compatible species.
This change didn’t represent a degeneration of their bloodlines.
On the contrary, it was the natural result of survival of the fittest.
The Cardinals were already relics. Even their own descendants—except for horns and wings—looked almost human.
Yet they clung to fading power, ready to sacrifice countless lives and let the Demon King’s Castle fall rather than face that they were outdated.
”Understood, sir.”
The masked Devil who handled the Cardinals’ dirty work gave a curt acknowledgment, then used magic to reduce the now-useless female Devils to their constituent Mana photons—destroying all evidence in a single stroke.
Before the next batch could be brought in, Bellgus’s low, guttural voice echoed through the chamber.
”I wonder… just how delicious the former Demon King’s daughter’s emotions and memories might taste…”
A weapon of war by design, Bellgus had desires—but not many. Inheriting Zolgear’s estate and breaking women for the Cardinal Council was only part of the reason.

The outermost ring was a wall over ten meters high, with gates at the four cardinal directions.
Beyond that, buildings were arranged in neat, concentric circles, each ring further in than the last—like the rings of a target, all converging at the center.
Leohart’s Demon King’s Castle naturally stood at the very middle—the most conspicuous structure in the city.
Beyond that came the estates of his Peerage members. The higher the rank, and the stronger the family’s power, the closer they were to the Demon King’s Castle.
Outside the Peerage district was the wealthy quarter, populated by affluent merchants and promising young talents with exceptional potential.
After all, in a supernatural world, the simplest and most effective way to rise through the ranks was to increase one’s personal power.
If the Demon King’s Castle was the first ring, the Peerage district was the second, and the wealthy quarter was the third.
Beyond the fourth ring, distinctions largely vanished.
