Chapter 425 This Demon King Can Go Screw Themselves

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Aki was getting petted by Shela, and it felt so ridiculously good that he instinctively flopped onto his back, belly-up, right there in her warm lap.

Then he caught the weird looks from Naruse Mio and Lucia, and immediately wanted to sink into the floor.

Good thing he was in cat form right now—nothing showed on that pitch-black face.

Not that he could really help it. The transformation was perfect, which meant some cat instincts came with the package. Aki could override them, no problem—they weren’t a weakness. They just made him look like an idiot sometimes.

Ramsus watched Aki’s total “useless cat” performance and dropped his suspicions.

As for Naruse Mio keeping a pet… She’d lived in the human world her whole life. Aside from being overpowered as hell, she was just a Japanese high school girl. Having a pet was totally normal. She hadn’t had one before—maybe her family didn’t allow it. Now? With her level of power, nobody was gonna say jack about her keeping a cat. She could keep a tiger and people would mind their own business.

After spending a while on Shela’s lap, Naruse Mio called Aki over. He padded across with elegant cat steps and settled onto a new spot—soft, warm, and with just the right amount of bounce.

Lying on that generously cushioned chest, Aki was getting grilled by two women through the Soul Network1.

They knew Shela was already his, obviously. But that didn’t stop them from having plenty of grounds to be jealous—both as a daughter and as soulmates.

Aki tried to stall at first, hoping Shela would take some of the heat. But there was no hiding it.

Never mind the Barrier shuddering last night—Shela’s radiant glow and the mature air practically oozing from her were proof enough of what had gone down between them.

If Shela had really wanted to hide it, her control over her Succubus bloodline2 would’ve made it easy. But after Dual Cultivating3 with Aki? The last thing she wanted was to push him toward her daughters like before. She was done sharing.

Shela enjoyed her breakfast with a satisfied smile. Meanwhile, Aki was cradled in Naruse Mio’s arms, getting hit with one unfair demand after another.

His cat face was about to crack and reveal total despair before the two women finally let him off the hook.

That was when Shela finished her meal and rose gracefully.

”Alright, time to go. Let’s not keep His/Her Majesty the Demon King waiting.”

The timing was way too perfect.

If Aki hadn’t been with Shela the entire time since last night, he’d have sworn the three women planned this.

And honestly? Even without planning, women had an unspoken understanding that produced the same effect. Shela, as the elder, taking her daughter’s man was a bit much—so as compensation, they silently agreed to throw Aki under the bus.

Everyone stood up. The same Devil girl who’d delivered the message led the way.

At the Demon King’s residence, you couldn’t just use teleportation circles freely. You walked—properly, respectfully.

Word had spread, whether intentionally or because Naruse Mio was already famous in the Underworld. Almost every Devil they passed turned to stare.

Probably the former, but at this point, overthinking it was pointless.

As they approached the Demon King’s palace, rumors started circulating that Naruse Mio was here to reclaim the throne.

Given that Naruse Mio had agreed to come to the Underworld and accepted her status as princess, this was exactly what Aki and the others had predicted.

Especially after Cattleya’s intel on the Curia’s schemes—it was painfully obvious who was stirring up this particular rumor mill.

Ramsus caught Naruse Mio’s utterly unruffled expression and found himself reassessing his niece.

But the one even more surprised was Demon King Leohart, who’d been waiting and watching through the palace’s magical surveillance.

He’d expected some yellow-haired punk raised in the human world. Instead, she was this calm—like the throne and the political pressure meant nothing to her.

Naruse Mio’s relationship with Aki—and by extension the Gremory household—was no secret. But her biggest moment had been the Zolgear incident. And even that “highlight” was basically just her not being a liability.

For a teenage girl who’d been in the supernatural world for barely a month, that was impressive. But as a Demon King successor? Nowhere near enough.

Yet looking at her now… maybe there was more to Naruse Mio than met the eye.

Leohart wasn’t the only one confused. Curia’s people were baffled too.

If Naruse Mio turned out to be too competent, it’d complicate their plans. They’d need to inform their higher-ups and prepare countermeasures.

While Curia’s faction started moving behind the scenes, Aki’s group reached the main hall—and came face to face with Demon King Leohart, his dark skin marked with purple magical tattoos.

The young Demon King was handsome enough. But compared to Aki? Yeah, no.

Even in his own palace, Leohart dressed for combat rather than the elaborate formalwear Ramsus was stuck in.

Aki’s blue slit-pupil eyes swept over the scene once, lost interest, and curled back up against Shela.

Pretty much what he remembered—Leohart was a close-combat specialist. The lack of fancy clothes made sense.

His power topped out at Demon King-class. With blood-bursting4, he could maybe trade blows with Jin Toujou.

The out-of-place black cat caught Leohart’s attention, along with his attendants.

After a quick look, they found nothing special—just a pet belonging to Shela, that “girl” in his peerage. They moved on.

The meeting didn’t involve any cliché power plays or humiliation scenes. No one demanded Aki’s group kneel, and no one on Leohart’s side was stupid enough to make that an issue.

Quick introductions, nods exchanged, then straight to business.

The focus was entirely on Naruse Mio. Ramsus, Lucia, and Shela were just window dressing.

Leohart lounged sideways on his throne, chin propped on his hand—casually regal.

 ”Naruse Mio.”

He fixed his gaze on her and spoke slowly: “You’re Wilbert’s daughter, but the Demon King’s throne—”

”This Demon King can go screw themselves,” Naruse Mio cut him off, sticking to the plan. “I’m here to see my only uncle. That’s it. The rumors outside? Not my problem.”

”I’m doing just fine in the human world. Why would I come to some backwater place with no cell signal to play Demon King?”

Watching Naruse Mio’s dismissive sneer, Leohart suddenly laughed.

Even his ever-composed friend and secretary beside him pushed up his glasses with a resigned sigh.

They knew the rumors had nothing to do with Naruse Mio. She hadn’t even been here a full day.

And if she actually wanted the throne, she wouldn’t have come alone.

Honestly? It was almost embarrassing. If Naruse Mio had brought the Gremory household, the Sitri family, and the current Red Dragon Emperor with her, Leohart wouldn’t have a choice but to step down.

The Three-Way War had left every family weakened.

But that depended on who you were comparing to.

As a frontier region, Leohart had inherited the most barren territory—poor in resources, poor in strong fighters.

That’s why he’d dug up ancient ruins buried underground, studying old technology to bolster his forces.

And in that field—ancient ruins—Curia’s old fossils were experts.

Another reason Leohart was under Curia’s thumb.

After Naruse Mio’s blunt declaration, the hall fell silent.

Then, amidst everyone’s stifled laughter, the tension melted away.

”If it’s just a homecoming visit, you’re all very welcome,” Leohart said, his expression relaxing. This had come out of nowhere—he hadn’t had time to gather good intel, and he’d worried Naruse Mio might’ve allied with Curia.

Now it was clear. This was all Curia’s meddling.

”To keep the rumors from spiraling and making things awkward for you at the Demon King’s castle, I’ll use my authority as Demon King to announce your renunciation of the throne later today.” Leohart continued: “You just need to show up, make a statement, and we’ll wrap this up.”

”Sure. No problem,” Naruse Mio agreed without hesitation. Young people got along—no unnecessary scheming.

The mood was friendly. But Curia’s Devils? They were getting antsy.

They’d assumed that even if Naruse Mio didn’t care about the throne, Leohart wouldn’t be so trusting.

Naruse Mio’s bloodline and status would always be a threat to his rule. In their position, they’d never stop worrying unless she was dead.

They couldn’t understand how Leohart could believe Naruse Mio so easily. Nor could they fathom how Naruse Mio could just walk away from the Demon King’s throne.

In the short time since her arrival, their propaganda campaign had already secured support from at least half the peerage—if Naruse Mio wanted the crown.

The common people’s opinion? In an era ruled by peerage families, commoners didn’t have a voice.

A ruler’s power held firm only as long as most noble houses backed them.

Just as Leohart turned to discuss logistics with Ramsus—when to hold the announcement, and what nominal Devil peerage title to give Naruse Mio—rapid footsteps echoed from the side corridor.

Along with the footsteps came a sharp stench, like cheap perfume. Not exactly unpleasant—but the moment they realized what the smell meant, everyone present wrinkled their noses in disgust.

Aki, still in cat form, reacted most visibly.

His sense of smell was way too sharp right now. And that scent came from trash-tier life-drain techniques—which pissed him off even more.

But an agitated black cat clearly wasn’t on Leohart or the casually striding Bellgus’s radar.

”Your Majesty,” Bellgus said, approaching Leohart and bowing. He wore formal attire, though it did nothing to hide his monster-like purple appearance.

 —

 Summary:

Aki endures petting bliss and subsequent interrogation from Naruse Mio and Lucia after his night with Shela, leading to a series of unequal demands. The group proceeds to Demon King Leohart’s palace, where Naruse Mio bluntly renounces any claim to the throne, relieving Leohart and revealing Curia’s manipulation. Just as plans solidify, the corrupted Devil Bellgus arrives, his presence marked by a telltale stench of parasitic magic, interrupting the fragile peace.

 —

 Trivia:

Aki’s cat form is a perfect transformation that includes instinctual behaviors, which he can override but occasionally causes embarrassment.

Shela could have hidden her Dual Cultivation results but chose not to, preferring to keep Aki for herself rather than share.

Naruse Mio accepted her princess status purely to visit her uncle, not to claim the throne.

Leohart controls a frontier territory so barren that he had to dig up ancient ruins to compete with other houses.

Curia engineered the rumors about Naruse Mio to destabilize Leohart’s rule and further their own agenda.

The stench Bellgus carries is a telltale sign of trash-tier parasitic magic used for life-drain techniques.

Leohart’s relaxed attire reflects his specialization in close combat, unlike Ramsus’s formal peerage outfit.

If Naruse Mio had allied with the Gremory household and the Red Dragon Emperor, Leohart would have been forced to abdicate.

The Curia’s influence over Leohart comes partly from their expertise in ancient ruins technology.

At least half of the peerage would support Naruse Mio if she claimed the throne, based on Curia’s propaganda campaign.

 Translation Notes:

1 A telepathic/magical connection that allows individuals to communicate mentally. Used here for private conversations and emotional transmission.

2 A supernatural heritage granting Succubus traits, including control over one’s own presence and abilities. Shela’s mastery allows her to hide her condition at will.

3 A practice where two individuals enhance each other’s power through intimate union. Typically results in visible changes in aura and vigor.

4 A power-up technique that temporarily increases combat capability at potential cost. In Leohart’s case, it allows him to fight near the level of Jin Toujou.

He was the ancestor of the ruling family, leaving behind his sister Sephie, lover Shela, and allies.

• Sitri – The prestigious devil hierarchy family name carried by Sona, representing her noble lineage and identity.

He actively opposes the protagonists, serving Leohart while hiding his vile nature behind political maneuvering.
