Chapter 109 The Night Forest and Moonlight Grass

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I was currently in the Elven Forest—Sylvain.

My goal: gather the “special materials” needed to enchant an exclusive weapon I planned to have crafted. While the dwarven princess Eil and her crew were setting up a proper forge in my manor’s courtyard, I intended to stockpile the necessary magical components.

I’d obtained direct permission from Elysion Elfheim, the elven chief, and was now venturing into the night forest.

With me were four companions: Lyphia Elfheim—the elven princess. Sylphie, a skilled archer who was a bit shy around strangers. Flora, the finest pharmacist among the elves. And Lunard, swift and keen-eyed, master of reconnaissance.

All four were my beloved lovers.

They usually handled security at my Theater, but navigating this vast, dangerous forest demanded their specialized expertise—which was precisely why I’d brought them along.

Kyle, the elven man who also worked at the Theater, had pitched a tantrum. “I want to come too!” But I left him behind. He’d just get in the way.

Not that I’d want to hold hands with some guy anyway.

After school, I’d stopped by the Theater once, picked them up, and used Teleportation Magic to reach the elven village in an instant. After handling the necessary formalities, we began the exploration.

The sun had long since set, and the world was wrapped in deep darkness.

The Elven Forest at night carried a different atmosphere from its gentle, vibrant daytime self—something mysterious and majestic. Moonlight streamed in silver columns through the canopy of trees, falling softly to the mossy ground. The moss itself caught the light, glowing faintly with an eerie, pale radiance.

My Dark Magic let me see clearly in the darkness. The elves said they needed nothing more than the moonlight. Since no one wanted a light source, the only illumination we carried was a single small lamp—kept as a backup for the journey.

To be brutally practical—I could have simply ordered my servant, Ashraf the Teleportation Demon, to “gather every rare material in the forest’s depths.” That would’ve been the fastest way.

But Elysion, the elven chief, hadn’t granted that kind of permission.

Well, I could understand their feelings. They didn’t want some unknown, sinister demon wandering their sacred forest as it pleased.

So I accepted their position and decided to explore myself.

Buying the materials with gold was also an option. But the magical artifact shops in the Royal Capital were stocked with nothing but common, run-of-the-mill stuff—the kind of things any adventurer could pick up from the nearest forest. And the prices? Outrageous. Clearly taking advantage of the gullible. I wasn’t about to pay a fortune for that.

Someone like me—who’d obtained formal permission from the elven chief to freely explore the sacred forest’s depths—didn’t exist anywhere else. And I had the dedicated support of four beautiful elven women who knew this forest like the back of their hands.

Given that overwhelming advantage… yes, it was best to personally handle the exploration.

We left the elven settlement and advanced northeast through the forest—quietly, carefully. The general locations of rare materials were already mapped in their minds.

Of course, finding them wasn’t guaranteed. In the end, it came down to luck. But still, we’d be far more efficient than wandering aimlessly.

”Xenos? Shall we rest a little?”

After three hours of walking, Lyphia made the suggestion.

Her flowing platinum-blonde hair, her translucent white skin, her regal emerald-green eyes—all softly illuminated by the moonlight filtering through the trees. She looked like a goddess of the forest incarnate.

I was momentarily spellbound by her beauty.

 ”Yeah. Good idea.”

Since we’d come straight here after school, we’d entered the forest around six in the evening. It was probably about nine now.

I was getting hungry, so we decided to take a longer break. Afterward, we’d continue exploring for another two hours or so before heading back. That would still leave enough time for a good night’s sleep.

Tomorrow, I could use Teleportation Magic to resume the search from where we left off. The weapon crafting wasn’t urgent anyway.

There was no need to push too hard. Better to take it slow and steady.

After we’d eaten, Lyphia turned into a complete cuddlebug. There was no one here but trusted companions, and we were deep in the forest she’d known since childhood—so she’d slipped into full girlfriend mode.

I held her slender body, gently soothing her—when she suddenly seemed to notice something.

 Those beautiful pointed ears twitched.

”Xenos… look over there. A little further in. I think I see a clearing.”

I followed her pale finger to a small hollow.

Its floor glimmered with countless silver lights—like the Milky Way itself had been spilled across the earth.

A cluster of strange grasses filled the depression, glowing faintly silver—beautiful and ethereal.

By day, it looked like nothing more than common grass. But after absorbing the sun throughout the day, the leaves began to glow at night—soft, silver, like moonlight made tangible.

 Its name: Moonlight Grass.

Known for its efficacy against mental magic—especially illusions and hallucinations. It could induce magical disorientation in enemies, and it was also a key ingredient in high-grade potions that calmed turbulent hearts.

Because the herb grew slowly over long periods, it was said to possess temporal properties—a faint rejuvenating effect, though only for a few hours and barely perceptible.

Flora carefully cut each stalk from the root with a special silver knife, taking care not to damage the precious herb. We gathered the fantastical glowing Moonlight Grass, then resumed our deeper exploration.

Two more hours passed as planned. We pushed deeper into the forest and then called it a day.

I used Teleportation Magic to send the four back to the Theater, then returned to my own manor.

I finished getting ready for bed and opened the door to the servants’ quarters. Inside, Lilia and Mina were cuddled together in one bed, already asleep. I’d strictly ordered Lilia to go to bed without waiting for me.

In the corner of the room, Kuuko and Lumia were curled up as adorable cat and lion, their quiet breaths steady.

 ”…Welcome back, Xenos-sama.”

It seemed the door had woken her.

 ”Sorry. Did I wake you?”

”Not at all. I’m always happy to talk with you at the end of the day.”

I gently stroked the hair of my faithful Lilia, then headed to my own room and slipped into bed.

 I closed my eyes.

The pleasant fatigue of exploration settled into my bones.

 Calm. Deep.

 I fell asleep.
