Chapter 493 First Meeting with Ophis

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The girls all had different reactions to joining the Rating Game again. Asia, who didn’t like fighting, was a bit unhappy, but Xenovia was extremely excited. After her forced breakthrough to Demon King-class and mastering the Holy Sword Durandal, she could finally stretch her legs.

Only Rias’s Peerage participated. Girls who’d reincarnated as Angels, like Irina and Naruse Mio, couldn’t come.

After giving a hint, Aki focused on the Student Council again. The real danger wasn’t Rias’s group — with Demon King-class strength and group action, plus Ophis and two other snake-powered Old Demon King descendants being watched by Sirzechs, almost no one could threaten them fatally.

But Sona Sitri’s side was different. Even with major power boosts putting them above most young Devils, they were still at high risk on a real battlefield. So even though Rias was ordered to join, Aki decided to stay with Sona Sitri.

Time flew. The tournament soon began.

The underworld’s younger generation wasn’t too many or too few. To let everyone fight freely, they created a special dimensional space. Under a red sky, various strange terrains were scattered — mountains, cliffs, forests, lakes, even palaces and a circular colosseum. All so competitors could fully use their abilities and make the tournament more exciting and meaningful.

Rating Game was based on chess. Using tactics, exploiting advantages, weakening enemies, timing piece abilities, completing objectives, winning — that was the essence. Of course, if you were like Aki, at a completely different dimension, none of that mattered. Before Aki, the strongest young Devil, Sairaorg, was at that level. No Peerage needed. Pure individual strength. Undefeated in Rating Games.

Following the red arching sky, Aki spread his senses. “Looks like Diodora can’t wait.”

”Diodora?” Sona Sitri was confused. “Aki, our opponent is…”

”President, this tournament is off again.” Aki smiled and quickly explained everything.

”So that’s it. I wondered why Rias suddenly joined.” Sona Sitri’s eyes focused. “At first I thought it was because you’re on my side this time, making their combat power less ridiculous.”

”Well, that’s not wrong.” Aki shrugged.

Rias didn’t need to join the Rating Game originally — not because she was too strong, but because the Loki fight proved her and her Peerage’s strength. But Loki didn’t represent all young Devils. Many were unhappy with that result. Having Rias participate calmed things down. A few arrogant ones even shouted they’d show her. But they didn’t know Rias was asked to join not because the higher-ups cared about their feelings. It was just to have more advantage in the coming war. Frankly, anyone that dumb, even with pure blood, Sirzechs wouldn’t value them.

The Student Council girls were just digesting this shocking news when magic circles appeared ahead.

”The enemy is here. Everyone get ready.” Aki gave the order. He left formation and waited before the strongest magic circle.

This war was a good training opportunity for the Student Council girls. Real combat trained people much more than Rating Games. Aki had taught them practical techniques. If they could show their real strength, handling some grunts would be no problem.

From the green magic circles, Diodora slowly appeared. His gentle fake smile was gone, replaced by madness and hatred. “As expected of the strongest Red Dragon Emperor generation. Sharp reaction.” Diodora floated not far from Aki, his expression twisted. “But today, you die here. With you dead, Asia is mine!!!”

Aki sensed his strength. Barely Lower God-class. Where did his confidence come from? At this level, Aki didn’t even need his Sacred Gear.

”Why no talk? Oh, I get it. Despair.” Diodora kept venting. As more Old Demon King faction members appeared, his confidence grew. “See this? All the enemies you’ll face. Not just you. Everyone here dies. Hahahaha…”

 ”Spare the talk, Diodora.”

When all his subordinates had teleported in, Sheba Beelzebub finally appeared. His face dark, he urged, “Finish the Red Dragon Emperor quickly. We’ll meet Cattleya and the others. Kill everyone.”

Aki looked at this Beelzebub descendant without rushing. Good look. Good presence. Compared to Diodora, a typical villain who didn’t waste words. Strength? Not counting the snake power he shared with Diodora, not as strong as the current Demon King Beelzebub. This level. No wonder they could only hide in the Abyss and cooperate with the Khaos Brigade to reclaim glory.

”Since the main event is here, I’ll get a bit serious.” Aki used his twelve-wing combat form for the first time in a while but still didn’t use Boosted Gear.

Not seeing the iconic red, Sheba frowned. But Diodora was different. “Haha, this is your serious? No pressure at all.”

Too big a power gap. Diodora couldn’t sense how strong Aki was. Despite saying that, as the next head of the Astaroth family and a Devil who’d seduced countless saints and nuns, he sneak attacked. Full power.

Enhanced by Ophis’s power, a strong Mana shockwave flew at Aki. The simplest methods — when power was strong enough, attack methods were all the same. Compare power. The weaker one loses.

Diodora attacked. Sheba also gathered power. A thicker, brighter Mana beam flew at Aki’s head. Mana beam — with the name ‘light,’ it might not be true light speed, but it wasn’t slow.

Under the Student Council girls’ worried eyes, both attacks hit Aki. No huge explosion. No difficult blocking. No piercing wounds. As the attacks reached Aki, a barely visible wave spread slightly. Then nothing.

”Impossible!” Diodora couldn’t believe it. “This is Ophis’s power! How could the Red Dragon Emperor possibly…”

”Enough.” Sheba interrupted darkly. “The Red Dragon Emperor is far stronger than estimated. Luckily he hasn’t used his Sacred Gear. We still have a chance. I’ll hold him. You go kill the Sitri family girl. Then meet Cattleya and the others.”

Sheba remembered his mission. He wanted revenge on the underworld, not to help Diodora kill Aki. He’d agreed to help Diodora, but at this point, Diodora was useless.

”Sheba, that’s not what you said before!” Diodora’s face twisted.

Sheba glanced at him, then cleanly pierced his chest. “Useless. Wasting snake power.”

Feeling his life drain and his energy fade, Diodora couldn’t believe Sheba had killed him. Aki watched happily with no intention to stop. Even absorbing Diodora’s snake power, Sheba barely touched High God. No match for Aki.

When Diodora was completely gone, Sheba looked at Aki cautiously, then aimed at Sona Sitri, who was commanding her Peerage. Stronger now, Sheba sensed Aki’s terror more clearly. Not unwinnable, but the odds were low. And that was assuming Aki was at full power. Sheba was clearly smarter than Diodora — Aki being this relaxed couldn’t be his limit.

”Tch. I’m right here. And you want to touch my woman?” Aki waved, sending a Mana shockwave to disperse Sheba’s attack.

Failing once, Sheba simply turned and fled. Killing Sona Sitri, the next Sitri family head, would be good, but with Aki here, Sheba felt it unlikely. And Sona wasn’t his main target. Meeting Cattleya, killing the others — especially the Gremory girl — then dealing with Aki together. That was best.

Aki watched Sheba’s retreat with no intention to chase. With Sirzechs and the Four Great Satans there, plus Odin and Michael, even with Ophis, the other battlefield would be fine.

The Student Council girls were indeed weaker. Even with improved strength, their numbers were low, and they were still in danger. Especially Bannya and Nimura Ruruko. Without Dual Cultivation with Aki, they were barely stronger than low-class Devils. Two enemies pushed them hard. If not for Hanazakai Momo and Kusaka Rea — both Bishops — watching them, they’d be badly injured.

After watching a while, personally covering and guiding them, once the girls couldn’t improve more, Aki finally killed all enemies.

”President. You all head back. I need to go to Rias’s side.”

”Okay. Be careful.” Sona wanted to stay but knew they’d be useless. Even with Bishop healing, Bannya and Ruruko needed proper treatment.

When Aki reached Rias, the battle was almost over. Confirming all Old Devil Faction members had appeared, Sirzechs and the others stopped holding back. With Cattleya’s betrayal, even Sheba’s arrival couldn’t save them.

”Looks like this is finally over.” Casually killing Sheba, Aki gathered with Sirzechs and the others.

Vali was focused on beating Great Red in the dimensional gap. Cattleya had rebelled. Another Four Great Satans descendant, a male Devil named Creuzerey, was killed by Sirzechs before Aki arrived. Even with snake power, that Demon King descendant couldn’t survive one hit from Sirzechs. With Sheba dead, the Old Devils had no leader. The remaining stragglers wouldn’t cause trouble.

”No. The Old Devil Faction is gone, but as long as the Khaos Brigade exists, chaos will continue.” Serafall said. “But they probably won’t keep targeting the underworld.”

The Khaos Brigade wanted to plunge the whole world into chaos. They wouldn’t just pick on the underworld. But just as Odin, Michael, and the Fallen Angels came to help, after the alliance, if other mythologies faced trouble, the Devils had to help too.

As they talked and cleaned up, a small figure silently appeared beside Aki. He didn’t sense her, but his eyes could see. Floating in the air, the loli had long black hair almost as long as her body and pure black eyes — but no emotion. Like a delicate doll. Her upper body was bare, only two X-shaped band-aids on her tender buds.

Seeing the sudden loli, Aki blurted out, “Ophis?”

Ophis’s image was too iconic. Aki didn’t remember much about her, but he recognized her immediately.

”This is… I didn’t expect you to appear in person.” Sirzechs said seriously.

Everyone who’d just relaxed tensed again. Even the unreliable Odin gripped his staff.

”If we defeat you here, will peace come…”

”Impossible. I am undefeated.” Ophis showed no emotion, but her mouth curved slightly, showing confidence.

Facing such arrogant words, no one from the various factions argued.

”With such power, you have no interest in the world. Why become the leader of terrorists?” Rarely able to speak directly with the Infinite Dragon God Ophis, Aki asked. He was interested in her. Especially now, meeting in person, his instinct told him to get close. Not just his Dual Cultivation ability, but bloodline instinct.

Actually, it wasn’t just Aki. Ophis felt the same. That’s why she’d been watching from the shadows, then appeared — and appeared right next to Aki.

”A quiet world…” Ophis looked at Aki, then at the endless red sky. Her eyes showed longing. “I want to enjoy a quiet world, like in my home, the dimensional gap. That’s all.”

”The dimensional gap…” Aki didn’t remember much about Ophis, but this part he knew well. Simply put, Ophis was born from nothing in the dimensional gap. But Great Red kicked her out. So she wanted to return to the dimensional gap and regain her original peace. Coincidentally, Vali also wanted to beat Great Red. So the two often appeared together.

Learning Ophis’s reason for leading the Khaos Brigade was this simple, Sirzechs and the others just talked. No plans to fight. Aki chatted quietly with Ophis. Under the strange attraction, they talked happily.

”Red Dragon Emperor. I think highly of you. Want to join me?” As they talked, Ophis directly invited him. “When we return to the dimensional gap, I’ll share half. I won’t kick you out.”

Aki scratched his head. He could live in the dimensional gap, but there was nothing there. Too boring. He didn’t understand why Ophis wanted to go back. Maybe because it was home? But he definitely didn’t want to go. Even though Ophis felt good, he wanted to stay with her.

”Sorry. I prefer my current life over the dimensional gap’s peace.”

”I see…” Though she didn’t understand, like Aki, she didn’t force it. “What a shame.”

Everyone pretending to clean up but actually watching turned their heads. Aki got an invitation from Ophis, and she seemed willing to share half her home… This was almost like asking to live together. To Ophis, the dimensional gap was home. Similarly, Great Red, who lived there long-term, thought the same. Great Red kicked her out because he didn’t want a roommate.

After this short time, Aki found this Infinite Dragon God very naive — almost innocent. Come to think of it, in the fight with the Khaos Brigade, Ophis never personally attacked. She just lent power.

Aki suddenly realized something. Defeating Ophis was hard, but maybe defeating the Khaos Brigade didn’t require beating her. Just getting her back to the dimensional gap. But dealing with Great Red was equally hard. He was strong enough to kick Ophis out, probably stronger. But if Vali could target Great Red, why couldn’t he?

Speaking of Vali, where was he? Not seen in this big scene. Come to think of it, during the Loki fight, his subordinates tried to capture Fenrir to strengthen the team. This time, he was probably still training.

Maybe because Ophis felt too good to Aki, but as they talked, his mind wandered.
