Chapter 145 Chronos Weiss
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
About two hundred soldiers rushed toward the front of my manor like a black wave.
They were the Crowley family’s top private army, a family with big lands in the northwest of the Kingdom. At the head of that strong force, sitting proudly on a warhorse, was the timid Duke Crowley himself.
The duke gave the signal, his hand shaking as he raised his sword, and the mages started their attack. Three high-ranking mages, well known for their skill, sent a storm of explosive magic. Terrifying roars shook the ground, and the vibrations rattled my manor to its foundations.
As if on cue, two more powerful magic attacks struck from the rear of the manor.
Explosions. Thunder. The air itself split apart.
But this manor was always protected by a powerful anti-magic barrier, so attacks like these could not cause much damage. There would also be no secondary damage, like fire.
I watched the commotion outside my window as I made my way slowly to the front entrance. I had already contacted all the workers inside through communication magic and told them what to do.
With the remote-control magic artifact in my hand, I quietly opened the main gate. It was an invitation to my uninvited guests.
The gate swung open slowly.
Duke Crowley looked truly shocked. He had never thought I would open the gates to welcome an attack force.
He had been getting more magic attacks ready to break down the strong gate. But now that it was open, he quickly ordered the three mages at his side to stop.
A wise decision for a coward. No point wasting mana.
I stepped out the front door and began walking slowly down the long path, as if I was going for an afternoon walk. My destination was the main gate, where my enemies waited.
The attack from the front gate had stopped.
As for the two mages who had been hiding behind the manor, my servant Ashraf had likely already dealt with them.
The remaining enemies were the two hundred soldiers at the front gate, the three mages, and that foolish commander.
I spread my hands lightly to show I had no weapons, and I walked toward them with an elegant smile.
Even after their attack, I appeared before the enemy alone and with no weapons. The strange contrast between my calm manner and their assault seemed to shake Duke Crowley deeply.
His confusion made sense.
”Well, well,” I said, my voice carrying a note of mock surprise. “If it isn’t Duke Crowley himself. To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit to my Grimlock Manor?”
The duke had come to attack. His intention had been to crush this manor with his strong force.
But my calm, untroubled response had taken away their chance to strike.
The three mages next to the duke still had their staves aimed at me. The soldiers behind them were full of killing intent.
Yet Duke Crowley himself, the center of it all, looked completely lost, almost foolish. My willingness to talk instead of fight had taken away all his power.
A strange discomfort must have stuck in his throat, a feeling he could not explain. He had come with hateful intent, yet I was behaving as if I was welcoming him. That difference had slowed his thinking.
Finally, he got off his horse as if to steady himself, and he spoke the reason for his attack.
”Forgive this sudden visit,” Duke Crowley began, his voice trembling despite his efforts to sound authoritative. “I received reliable reports that the dwarf princess Eil, who should be under my family’s protection, is being unjustly imprisoned and enslaved within your manor. We are here to rescue her from this unreasonable treatment. If you release her peacefully, there will be no further attacks. Surrender now, and release the princess immediately.”
The duke’s voice shook, but he tried to sound as dignified as he could while he made his demand for surrender.
I spread my hands again to show I had no weapons, and I stepped closer.
”Hmm. That’s an interesting claim,” I said, my tone light and conversational. “As it happens, I’m not sure that’s–“
The duke cut me off before I could finish.
”Don’t pretend she isn’t here,” he interrupted, his voice growing sharper despite its unsteady edge. “Your excuses won’t work. With two hundred soldiers behind me, searching this manor to find evidence would be trivial. Now, hand over the princess.”
Duke Crowley clearly thought I had no will to fight.
Despite his timid nature, he was negotiating with surprising boldness.
Talk was war without weapons. He was threatening me with the weight of those two hundred soldiers.
I smiled quietly and replied.
”Duke,” I said, my voice calm and steady, “I never said Princess Eil was not here. I only said you are operating under a serious misunderstanding. She is indeed here. But she is not, and never was, a ‘slave.’”
And with those words, I twisted space itself and drew a single sword.
This sword was no exaggeration. It was part of my body.
”What? Where did that sword come from?” Duke Crowley cried out, his voice cracking with shock.
The air froze.
The blade pressed against his shaking throat, not a millimeter off target. The color left the duke’s face in an instant. The soldiers and mages froze and held their breath.
Silence fell over the battlefield.
The dwarf princess Eil had poured all her skill into making this great magic sword for me alone. It was filled with my own huge mana, and it had a very special property.
Since arriving in this world, I had used a space jump magic called “Teleportation” many times.
Maybe that was why.
This sword had gained a very useful ability: “transfer.” This blade, already like a part of myself, could now be called to my hand whenever and wherever I wanted.
What was more, when I held this sword, the effective range of my [Magic Seal] spread outward from the blade itself. The system seemed to see the sword as part of my body.
After it was completed, its creator Eil said, “Please give this wonderful sword a name.” And so I named it [Chronos Weiss].
Chronos, from the old Greek word for “time.” And Weiss, from “vice,” or “dominance.”
It was a mix of words I made up myself.
I came up with the name on the spot, but it was actually pretty cool.
I liked it.
Now, that [Chronos Weiss] pressed its sharp tip against the duke’s thin throat. One more push, and his life would end in an instant.
”Don’t move!” I commanded, my voice low and deep, yet loud enough for all two hundred soldiers to hear.
The sight of me pulling a sword out of nowhere and pointing it at their lord made the soldiers freeze. Their movements stopped completely.
”G-guugh! P-put down the sword, Lord Grimlock!” Duke Crowley stammered, his voice barely a whisper against the blade.
”Would it not be more appropriate for you to lower your staves first, Duke Crowley?” I replied, slowly looking each of the three mages in the eye.
Neither side could move now. A perfect stalemate.
As this tense, explosive standoff continued, a group rushed in from behind the soldiers.
Prince Liam and his usual retinue.
”Both sides, enough!” Prince Liam shouted, his voice cutting through the tension. “Lay down your arms, now!”
I let out a small breath, laughing to myself at his “unexpected” intervention.
I had no intention of taking the duke’s life here. I was simply waiting for the prince’s mediation.
In the plan I had written, this was the best possible outcome.
Everything was going according to plan.
I smiled to myself, quietly.

Summary:
Xenos calmly observes Duke Crowley’s assault force of two hundred soldiers and mages bombarding his manor, protected by an anti-magic barrier. He opens the gates, walks out unarmed, and engages the duke in dialogue while revealing the dwarf princess Eil is not enslaved. Xenos summons his sword Chronos Weiss from thin air, holds the duke at blade-point, and waits for Prince Liam’s intervention to resolve the stalemate politically.
—
Trivia:
Xenos’s manor has a permanent anti-magic barrier that prevents significant damage from the assault.
Ashraf, Xenos’s servant, has already handled two mages who attacked from the rear.
Chronos Weiss is forged by Eil and infused with Xenos’s mana, granting it a transfer ability and extending his Magic Seal range.
Xenos’s calm demeanor and mock-polite dialogue disarm Duke Crowley, preventing the soldiers from attacking.
The sword name Chronos Weiss combines Greek and Latin roots: Chronos (time) and vice (vice/dominance).
Prince Liam’s arrival is anticipated by Xenos as part of his strategic plan.
Duke Crowley’s voice trembles throughout the confrontation, revealing his underlying fear.
Xenos has repeatedly used Teleportation magic, which influenced the sword’s acquired ability.
The system recognizes Chronos Weiss as part of Xenos’s body, allowing remote summoning.
The standoff ends in a perfect stalemate, with neither side able to act without escalating.
