Chapter 90 The Truth, Part II
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
What I asked Belzeda was about the recognition of metal poisoning.
In my previous life, it was common knowledge at the elementary school level, but what about in this world? As a noble with magical powers, I couldn’t be the standard. It’s clear that I have far more knowledge than average.
The answers I got from Belzeda and the people in the mansion were that they didn’t know. They didn’t even know that consuming metals could be harmful.
If this is the average way of thinking, it’s no wonder they confuse pathogens with metal poisoning.
However, the academy’s library had books on the harm caused by metals and magic for identification, as well as actual regulations. I borrowed those books and placed them in front of Lana.
”I’m not a doctor, but lead poisoning has similar symptoms to these diseases.”
I opened the page of the book “The Poison of Metals and Their History” that mentioned lead poisoning, including cases from other countries.
- Lead poisoning is chronic and can occur even through oral ingestion. Early symptoms include gastrointestinal disorders, anemia, and others.
- As symptoms progress, they affect joints and other digestive organs, as well as mental health. It can cause paralysis in hands and feet, and damage to many organs, including the kidneys.
- High-concentration, long-term lead poisoning can be fatal.
- Lead dissolves in water and cannot be removed by boiling. Special filtration devices are necessary to remove lead.
”It’s all the same as the symptoms in my territory…”
”An accurate diagnosis requires a doctor’s examination, though…”
”I understand. Just wait a bit, I’ll send a messenger to my father and brother.”
Lana rushed out of the reception room without even listening to my response. She must have been too anxious to stay still…. I saw her off and reached for a cup of herbal tea. It was a soothing, gentle flavor that eased my mental fatigue.
Anyway, Aide was probably making counterfeit goods with Sword, and didn’t even realize what was happening to himself, eventually dying from lead poisoning. If he had been aware of handling lead, he would have said so during treatment.
He had relied on a suspicious folk remedy, but it didn’t work out. According to Claire, Aide had been using his own handmade tableworks. It’s a sad ending――the memories of his late wife, his own creations. Those things ended up being the cause of his death.
Maybe it’s a case of karma. A punishment for creating fake products… Humans who live in the shadows don’t even get protected on the surface.
A little while later, Lana came back.
”I’m sorry. I’ve sent someone to the territory for now.”
Needless to say, if the lead leak is real, Dupont Corporation’s responsibility is huge. Lana’s eyes had a quiet anger in them. I also felt indignation, but we still didn’t have enough evidence to take action.
”We need to investigate the details from now on. I think Dupont Corporation is the most suspicious, but…”
”…Yeah. If Alba’s speculation is correct, Moon Moss should have accumulated lead. If we can get in touch, we can investigate more thoroughly on-site.”
There, Lana gazed at the herbal tea.
”I never thought Moon Moss would turn out like this…”
”But maybe we should think about it differently.”
”Huh?”
”Moon Moss’s ability to accumulate lead might be useful as a kind of absorbent or indicator… We can’t ignore the final disposal method, though.”
This is close to wishful thinking… Even if Moon Moss had toxic substances, it’s not Moon Moss’s fault. The ones who scattered the lead are the bad guys, and Moon Moss just did its job as part of the ecosystem.
”Yeah… thanks. We won’t reach a conclusion right away, but I’ll tell my father and brother.”
Lana let out a deep sigh. There’s a feeling that we’ve been given a lot of information all at once. Still, I had to say it sooner or later.
”…I really appreciate it. I don’t know how to thank you… I should also thank that person in the black coat.”
”I’ll pass it on.”
”…But why did Alba go that far for me?”
”Well, president is an important person, after all.”
Those were natural words. The woman I wanted to protect from the bottom of my heart is Lana alone. She’s smart, strong-willed, and gentle.
”…Yeah. Alba is an important person to me too.”
Lana’s words are filled with affection. At the very least, there’s a hint of it. I can take it at face value. I’m about to get all fluttery. Our hearts are finally in sync.
”Hey, what’s the plan from now on, Alba? Are you busy?”
”Yeah…I need to take care of this matter. I can’t go back to the mansion yet.”
”…I see.”
Lana looks disappointed. I also want to see her in that rough robe for a bit longer, but it can’t be helped.
After finishing my herbal tea, I tell Lana about the various documents I obtained and take my leave from the mansion.
Lana even sees me off at the entrance… which was a surprise attack.
”Hug!”
Lana wraps her arms around me from behind. It’s warm and soft…!
”…Uh, President?”
”Mm… just for a bit.”
So cute, oh man. Lana rubs her body against mine and then quickly pulls away.
”See you tomorrow, Alba.”
”Yes… President.”
It’s like a dream. The physical connection is great, but this kind of touch is also amazing.
After parting ways with Lana, I head to the White Lily Cafe. I still haven’t properly explained my “My Hypothesis” to her, after all.
There’s the question of what to do next…but for now, I’ve at least cleared a big hurdle.

Hmm, not sure what to feel about this. It’s so convenient that there happened to have that book that shows symptoms of lead poisoning but doctors cannot even diagnose it?
