Chapter 54 The Men’s Blade
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Western Region, afternoon.
Es-Cara Fortress was a crucial defense point for the Ravendora Empire in the west. This fortress, located near the western border, had a history of over a hundred years, built by a great general of the past and named after his 2 children.
This fortress not only blocked the Fris Kingdom on the western border but also kept watch over the dangerous Carnad Mountains in the southwest. Moreover, about 50 branch castles were built around the area, forming an indispensable defense line for the wealthy Western Region.
Such was the Es-Cara Fortress, where the sound of military boots and horse hooves was approaching from the direction of the old capital. The number was around 50,000, a unified army of Monsters (Mamono) clad in armor, filling the long city road leading to the fortress.
”Is this our destination, Es-Cara Fortress?”
A cavalryman leading the army pointed at the Es-Cara Fortress in the distance. Almost simultaneously, a massive black horse with a build that could be mistaken for an elephant let out a loud snort, and the cavalryman… Second Army Leader Goldgang turned around from his horse to face the man behind him.
”The castle walls are high, and the moat is deep; it’s quite an impressive fortress, isn’t it? You think so too, don’t you, Morloi?”
Morloi, a boy called out by Goldgang, nodded slightly, his eyebrows furrowed at the extremely loud voice.
Morloi was a [Gaki]. However, unlike the typical characteristics of his kind, he didn’t have a disgusting face, a chest with skin directly attached to the ribcage, or a swollen lower abdomen that would evoke a sense of revulsion.
He was a boy with a striking resemblance to Little Red Riding Hood from the Grimm fairy tales, wearing a bright red Gothic Lolita outfit. His long eyelashes, well-defined nose, and luscious lips, along with his twin tails that resembled a golden drill, made his facial features seem like a doll’s, but his appearance was so refined that it sent chills down one’s spine.
However, Morloi’s nature is the exact opposite of his fairy-tale-like appearance. With a ribbon-adorned, frilly saddle on his back, and his slender, snow-white legs clad in net tights, straddling it with his legs wide open, and puffing on a thick, mafia-like cigar, he looks utterly out of place in a Gothic Lolita setting.
And if he were to lift his skirt, one’d find a dignified, high-quality ‘gem’ nestled within his feminine, black lingerie, which would be enough to make one’s brain stop functioning.
”About 90 points, I’d say… Morloi-chan style…”
Morloi laughs, puffing out heart-shaped purple smoke as he presses his bright red lips together.
The motto of the Second Army is “No need to argue with words. If you’re a man, fight with your fists.” And indeed, among the 4 Major Armies, the Second Army is one of the most brutal, with a destructive power that’s unmatched. Moreover, the Second Army is the only army among the 4 Major Armies that consists solely of men.
Morloi’s adorable physique, which seems to defy the membership in the rough and tumble Second Army, is surprisingly fragile. His slender arms and legs, which look like they might break with a mere touch, are more suited for elegance than fighting.
However, there isn’t a single person who underestimates Morloi within the Second Army. That’s because Morloi is the strategist of the Second Army and the deputy officer of Goldgang, or rather, he’s more than just a deputy officer, serving as half of Goldgang’s core.
”But it seems like they’re just boasting about being unbeatable. We can’t tell just by looking from the outside, though…”
Morloi mutters, narrowing his eyes. As the strategist, Morloi’s massive brain is already in full gear, having grasped the entire Es-Cara fortress in his sights.
The mission given to the Second Army isn’t just to receive the Es-Cara fortress and its surrounding castles. They’re also tasked with entering those castles, replacing the feudal kingdom’s soldiers, and defending the western border.
So, the Second Army has marched into this Es-Cara fortress with all its might. Among them is a civil servant from Felshiol’s strategy department, who will investigate the surrendered castles.
It’s undoubtedly Goldgang who’s leading the Second Army. His overwhelming military power is enough to captivate anyone.
However, the one moving the Second Army is the military strategist, Morloi.
”Can’t we just use it as is?”
”Well, it’s a castle that those monkeys were using, so it’s not like our Army, with its huge and muscular members like Goldie-chan, can use it. Of course, lovely Morlie-chan is an exception, right? Kyurun~n★.”
”Yeah, if we did, we’d end up banging our heads and going crazy, haha.”
”Hey, if you get any more stupid, you’ll even lose your position as Army Commander, you know? …It’s already a tight spot, after all.”
”Haha, you’re telling me!”
Morloi’s casual remark makes Goldgang burst out laughing loudly.
”Well, joking aside…it’s clear that we can’t use it without rebuilding everything, including the outer castle walls…it’s a huge task, yeah~.”
”Then let’s call in some carpenters from the capital. As for me, I’m just a amateur when it comes to territory management.”
”We need to get the preparations done quickly. It’s better to do things quickly, and once the fortress is handed over, we’ll set up our base right away!!”
”Yeah, that’s right. If an enemy going to attack, we’ll take them on even when naked.”
Goldgang swung the large axe he was carrying on his shoulder, and in that instant, the air was split, creating a gust of wind that fluttered the Army Commander’s cloak.
”Naked? You’re going to strip lovely Morlie-chan bare and do what? No way~❤︎.”
”Haha, if I stuck it into your butt, the tip of my d*ck would come out of your throat!”
”What? Morlie-chan doesn’t have a butt hole. Morlie-chan doesn’t poop, because Morlie-chan is a magical girl, after all★.”
They’re marching with a mix of jokes. Morloi’s every move is like a kid’s, but he’s still a member of the Second Army, and his words and actions are too crude.
Let’s set that aside.
As Goldgang said, if they’re attacked before the new fortress is completed, they’ll have to fight a defensive battle outside the castle.
The negative thought that they might lose doesn’t even cross Morloi’s mind. However, the number of tactics he can think of changes completely depending on whether they have a castle or not.
While Morloi is thinking strategically, despite his attitude, the army is getting closer and closer to the Es-Cara fortress.
”Hey, you guys! Halt!!”
With Goldgang’s shout towards the sky, the Second Army stopped advancing, a short distance away from the castle gate. No flags or horns were needed; Goldgang’s voice, as a general among generals, can reach his soldiers’ ears even in the midst of battle.
They stopped a little ways back to form a battle formation in case they’re attacked. It’s a distance where arrows can barely reach, and if they’re charged by cavalry, it’ll take around 30 seconds. But that distance is still within the Second Army’s comfort zone.
Even though the Second Army stopped, the castle gate remained shut. Goldgang looked up at the castle walls with a scowl, but there was no sign of enemy soldiers.
”What do we do if the gate doesn’t open?”
”Then we’ll have a siege, I suppose~. We’ll have a tea party with Goldie-chan, with the general’s tombstones as our backdrop, haha.”
Morloi glanced back. Although he couldn’t see them, the soldiers standing behind him had siege engines like ladders and catapults waiting for their turn.
”Have we got permission?”
”Of course. We’re going to all the trouble of coming here on the designated day, so it’d be ridiculous to turn back now, haha.”
Morloi was gazing at the castle gate, his shoulders shrugged, but his words trailed off and disappeared into thin air.
”Wait, did they really open the gate that easily?… Ah, no, I shouldn’t have said that, haha, oh dear~★.”
At the same time Morloi tapped his own head, the castle gate began to open with a heavy, rumbling sound like thunder. In that tense moment, if the enemy was in the mood, a cavalry charge and a rain of arrows would come together.
The soldiers standing in the front line held up their large shields and spears. The massive monster, such as [Ogre] and [Minotaur] about twice the size of humans, stood in a row, holding up their shields. It was like a fortress wall, and even a cavalry charge wouldn’t be able to push them back.
”Well, if it comes to a fight, I’ll be the first to take them down. I can take out 20 of them with just one swing!”
”That’s great, but it’s not like we’re definitely going to fight.”
Goldgang let out a rough breath as he raised his large axe. As a Morloi, he thought the chances of then fighting were low, considering the various circumstances, but he prepared a magic wand just in case.
The gates of Es-Cara Fortress opened, and a cavalry unit appeared from within. They were dressed in uniform, like a regular army. The horses were also wearing armor, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they were heading into battle.
However, they didn’t have their swords drawn, and their helmets were held at their sides. This was a clear indication that they didn’t intend to fight.
The cavalry unit began to march slowly. The infantry behind them followed, forming a line to face the Second Army.
”I see the commander of the Babellion army.”
A knight standing at the front of the line took 3 steps forward and introduced himself.
”I am General Snowrayzen, the lord of this Es-Cara Fortress.”
He was a middle-aged knight with a scar on his right cheek. Although his short, cropped hair was mixed with white, his sharp gaze, like an eagle’s, showed no signs of weakening, exuding an aura of authority as a general.
”I have been stationed at this Es-Cara Fortress for 40 years, from sergeant to general. My body has always been here, at this Es-Cara Fortress.”
General Snowrayzen raised his voice, receiving gazes from all directions. Goldgang and the others listened to his words without interrupting.
”There is an agreement between our countries, and I understand that. There may be things that soldiers don’t understand, like politics. But as a soldier, I can see the strength of your army right now, and I believe His Majesty’s decision was correct… However, my life and emotions refuse to accept that, and I will not abandon this Es-Cara Fortress!!”
The General Snowrayzen, who had cut off all words, drew his long sword from his waist and raised it to the sky.
”I challenge you to a duel! If you want to enter the Es-Cara fortress, you’ll have to cut me down and take my head!!”
The tip of General Snowrayzen’s sword was pointed at Goldgang. No one present didn’t know who he was angry with.
”Is this a development that’s gone off the rails from my expectations?”
”…Looking at the state of the monkey soldiers, is this the monkey general’s rampage? Morlie-chan and the others in trouble.”
Morloi was calmly analyzing the state of the soldiers lined up behind General Snowrayzen. They were all shaken, but trying to hide it. As elite soldiers, they were trying to conceal their agitation, but it was spreading like ripples, shaking the entire army.
On the other hand, Goldgang, who was being challenged by General Snowrayzen, was trembling on horseback. This was a duel, a one-on-one battle where his life and pride were at stake.
Goldgang’s body was burning with excitement, like his blood was boiling. The thrill of battle as a warrior, the joy of fighting, was welling up from within him like magma.
”You think I’d back down from a challenge? That’s shameful for a warrior!”
Saying that, Goldgang’s face was shining like a child’s on a trip, full of excitement. Morloi, who knew it was too late to stop him, let out a deep sigh and tried to release the reins connected to Goldgang.
But the next action didn’t come from the Second Army, but from the feudal kingdom’s soldiers.
”Wait, General!”
A voice called out, stopping General Snowrayzen, who was about to charge with his sword.
”The General is necessary for the empire’s future. We can’t let you throw your life away here.”
General Snowrayzen turned around, and one of the cavalrymen slowly approached him, standing in front of him.
”What’s your intention, Lucas!?”
The knight, called Lucas, who was restraining General Snowrayzen, met his gaze. He was an old knight with a large beard, probably a year older than General Snowrayzen.
”I’ve been with the general in this fortress for over 20 years. I couldn’t bear to hand over this fortress, which I call my home, for nothing.”
Knight Lucas turned his back on General Snowrayzen again and shouted towards Goldgang.
”I’ll take on this duel in the general’s place!”
”Lucas!”
General Snowrayzen glared at him. But Knight Lucas didn’t look back.
”Don’t stop me, please. I’m begging you to acknowledge my resolve.”
”But――.”
”You’re still needed in Ravendora. Even if you hand over this fortress, Ravendora’s borders stretch north, east, and south. And the time will come when your power is needed again.”
Once more, Knight Lucas turned around. This time, he pulled the reins of his horse and turned his body around.
”So, please acknowledge this old soldier’s determination, my pride.”
General Snowrayzen and the knight locked eyes. There was a silence of several dozen seconds. No words were needed, and nothing more was necessary. Knight Lucas’s resolve, his unwavering determination, was burning like a flame in the depths of his eyes, clearly reflected in General Snowrayzen’s eyes.
”…I understand, I’ll acknowledge your pride. Good luck.”
”Thank you, I’m grateful.”
Knight Lucas dismounted his horse. Then, he raised his sword, kneeled on both knees, and bowed his head.
This was the empire’s ritual of loyalty, but in this situation, it meant farewell and final gratitude.
When Knight Lucas stood up again, his expression was calm. On his face was a sense of excitement for the one-on-one battle, and in his heart was his own pride.
”Warriors, please forgive me for interfering with your duel.”
The knight didn’t mount his horse, instead walking towards Goldgang on foot.
”Whoa, whoa, this is getting good! A beautiful lord-vassal relationship between men, and I’m not complaining…”
”Goldie-chan has no reason to accept this duel, and it’s not like there’s any obligation either…”
”Oi, oi, don’t say something so boring, Morloi. This is the only excitement in this dull handover process. And to say you’re disgusted by this guy, I’ll carry this shame for the rest of my life!”
Goldgang also jumped off his horse. Then, he swung his large axe around, shouldering it, and headed towards Knight Lucas, who was waiting at the midpoint between the 2 armies.
And the 2 opponents faced each other. Although they were outside of sword range, they were close enough to clearly see each other’s expressions.
”I’ll respond to seriousness with seriousness. I won’t show mercy to the wicked.”
”Of course. I’ll take you on with the intention of killing you.”
Goldgang flashed a full smile as he gazed at the knight Lucas, who was ready with his sword.
”Good spirit. Let me hear your name, brave warrior standing before me.”
”I am Es-Cara Fortress’s Vice Commander, General Snowrayzen’s deputy, Lucas Gankearus.”
”Ah, Vice Commander Lucas Gankearus. I won’t forget that name. This duel, as one of the Babellion Twelve Pillars of the Saint Tower, ‘Commander of the Second Army’ Goldgang has accepted!”
With Goldgang’s declaration, the two of them kicked off the ground and charged at each other────.
It was over in an instant, faster than the blink of an eye.
”[Dokkoi Sho (Super Powerful Shock)]!”
Goldgang’s massive axe, swung down with all his might, obliterated Knight Lucas without leaving a trace. The decisive, merciless blow that surpassed the speed of sound turned the knight into a mixed mass of flesh and metal, making it impossible to tell what he had been just a moment before.
And several seconds later, a heavy, metallic sound echoed, proclaiming Goldgang’s victory and the knight’s ruthless death.
There was no cheer from either army. Only the sound of the wind rustling through the silence, heavy as lead.
”I appreciate you accepting this duel. Of course, I’ll hand over Es-Cara Fortress as well.”
General Snowrayzen approached, bowing his head deeply. Even he didn’t know which direction his bow was directed towards.
”No useless deaths.”
Goldgang shook his head sideways, looking at General Snowrayzen. Then, he pointed at the mass of flesh and metal that was once Knight Lucas.
”Vice Commander Lucas Gankearus demonstrated the martial prowess of the feudal kingdom with his life. Send him off with pride, not regret.”
”I understand.”
”A spirit alone can’t fill your belly, and I won’t kill you. Vice Commander Lucas Gankearus’s sword didn’t even get to swing… but!! But!! This warrior’s blade has definitely reached the heart of another warrior!!”
Goldgang struck his chest strongly with his fist. The difference in power between the 2 was so great that it couldn’t even be compared. However, as men, they were equals.
That was a duel between men.
”Hey, Morloi!”
Goldgang called out his vice commander’s name as he turned around. Morloi, understanding what was being asked without needing further words, let out a deep sigh and grasped his magic wand with a winged heart, chanting sorcery.
”…This is…”
General Snowrayzen was at a loss for words. Morloi’s sorcery had transformed the lump of flesh into Knight Lucas.
”You can’t even mourn this lump of flesh. At least let me return it to its beautiful body.”
With Morloi’s sorcery, it would be easy to revive Knight Lucas. He could continue living his life as usual, without any aftereffects, as if the duel had never happened.
However, in this situation, reviving the defeated was absolutely unacceptable. That would be an insult to Knight Lucas, a despicable act that would spit on the resolve of men.
”…Thank you.”
Once again, General Snowrayzen bowed deeply from the waist. And when he raised his face again, his eyes were no longer shaking.
General Snowrayzen was also a man. Goldgang recognized his lord, who was also a warrior.
”I’m not selling favors. I’m showing respect to the pride of men and the magnificent lord-vassal relationship.”
Goldgang turned his back, pulling on the reins. General Snowrayzen gazed at the beautiful corpse of Knight Lucas lying on the ground. And once again, he expressed his gratitude towards Goldgang’s back.
From then on, everything went smoothly. Most of the supplies had already been transported, leaving only the soldiers in the fortress. Those soldiers, led by General Snowrayzen, set off towards the capital.
Following Morloi’s instructions, part of the Second Army dispersed to their designated branch castles.
As Goldgang stood on the castle walls, arms crossed, gazing out at the scene, Morloi approached him, holding a map of the surrounding branch castles.
”I wonder if it was good to let him die…”
As Morloi looked up at the roof of the fortress, he saw the flag of Babellion flapping in the wind.
”I don’t think you should’ve accepted that duel…”
Morloi’s words were met with a sidelong glance from Goldgang, who shook his head.
”Don’t be ridiculous, I’d be the one who’d lose face if I backed down from a fight against that guy. And if I, the Army Commander, were to lose face, it would be a huge embarrassment to His Majesty.”
”But maybe it was all part of the plan from the start… The monkey General declared his name, and then the monkey Deputy was killed instead, so maybe we can use that to our advantage…”
Goldgang burst out laughing, dismissing Morloi’s doubts.
”That’s not it at all!”
He turned to face Morloi, a smirk on his face. His strong gaze, imposing aura, and charismatic charm made Morloi unable to meet his eyes.
”I can confidently say that I didn’t see any such intention in Vice General Lucas Gankearus’s eyes. That’s a guarantee.”
But Morloi’s body stiffened at Goldgang’s next words.
”…What about the General?”
”Ah, that general seemed to be hiding something, like he had a secret plan or something.”
Goldgang stroked his chin, a casual tone in his voice, as if he were discussing what he had for breakfast that morning. But Morloi’s eyes narrowed, suspicious.
”So you’re saying he was in cahoots with the Vice Commander?”
”That’s not what I’m saying.”
Goldgang replied calmly, his voice unwavering. Morloi’s anger was rising, but Goldgang remained composed, his words measured and deliberate.
”The general was the only one who was thinking something. But if I were to duel him, I’d definitely win. So it’s not like he was planning anything. Maybe he wanted to achieve something by dying?”
Morloi knew that Goldgang’s instincts were surprisingly sharp. He might not be good at strategy or verbal sparring, but his ability to sniff out victory in battle was exceptional.
”…I’ll believe in Goldie-chan. But if I knew that, I wouldn’t have wanted to kill anyone…”
”No way, Vice-Commander Lucas flames were the real deal. I can’t just ignore whatever happens, no matter what.”
Goldgang shook his head,
”But, Morloi. The general’s eyes definitely saw the warrior’s flames burning. That’s no mistake.”
”So that guy was a warrior too?”
”Yeah. The look on his face when he accepted Vice-Commander Lucas’ resolve, and the look on his face when he returned the corpse… Even if he had some plan, I don’t think a guy who can make that face would do anything more.”
”…Got it, Morlie-chan will understand too.”
Morloi nodded.
However, feeling a bit annoyed that he was challenged one-sidedly and killed in response, he thought that he shouldn’t let it slide,
”Instead, let’s blame the feudal kingdom for the smooth transfer not happening and pursue responsibility!!”
”Hahah, if you do something so cowardly, I’ll kill you!”
* * *
”…Did you kill someone?”
Felshiol, who had received the report that the transfer of Es-Cara Fortress and its branch castles was complete, was staring at the messenger with wide eyes.
”Yes. A one-on-one duel was held during the transfer of Es-Cara Fortress, and it seems that the feudal kingdom’s vice-commander was killed.”
The one reporting was a civil servant from Felshiol’s strategy department who had accompanied the Second Army on a military investigation of Es-Cara Fortress. He had returned to Babellion after being told by Morloi to report the urgent news.
”What a pain… I told him not to do anything unnecessary before we left, but… What is Morloi doing?”
Felshiol couldn’t help but cover his head and look up at the sky upon hearing the civil servant’s report again.
”The Commander of the Second Army… is a warrior who lives by his sword. There’s no one who would complain about the result… He said, didn’t he?”
”I acknowledge that there’s a value system based on the way warriors live. I don’t understand it, though…”
Felshiol took a deep breath and turned his gaze back to the civil servant.
”Also, the corpses that turned into meat blocks were returned in a beautiful state.”
”…He can at least show some consideration, can’t he?”
Felshiol snorted and walked towards the map of the Western Region.
”But that’s still not enough. Have Goldgang send some kind of gift to the bereaved family in his name. He doesn’t need to go out of his way, just show some respect to the rare warrior… and say something like ‘I’ll send a sword or something’.”
Felshiol was thinking of a countermeasure, but the civil servant, who couldn’t believe that Felshiol was sighing just because they had killed one person, couldn’t help but ask a question.
”Do we really need to go that far?”
”That’s politics.”
He replied immediately.
”Babellion is an absolute powerhouse. There’s a huge difference in power that allows us to ignore reason. However, that doesn’t mean we have to be tyrannical all the time, causing unnecessary unrest. And that’s not what His Majesty wants either.”
Babellion’s position and power were, of course, extremely strong. Even if they killed a villager on a whim, no one in the feudal kingdom could say anything about it.
However, if Babellion continued to be tyrannical, the people’s fear and anger would only grow. And even if the villagers tried to resist, they couldn’t win against Babellion… which would likely lead to them becoming vassals.
As a result, the governance system that was left behind would crumble, and Babellion would have to allocate resources to suppress the rioting mobs. That wasn’t a desirable outcome.
The civil servant, who seemed to understand Felshiol’s explanation, looked through the report again and said,
”The Commander of the Second Army said it’s highly likely that the General had some kind of scheme in place in exchange for the death.”
”…Just say it already.”
It’s completely different when one thinks about a one-on-one duel and some kind of obstruction.
”Let’s get Shiki to look into it immediately. If there’s a collaborator, we need to nip it in the bud before it blooms.”
If he’s going to die, there’s a high possibility that someone else will take action after his death. Even if the general becomes the vice-general, it’s not like the bud has been nipped. On the contrary, it’s possible that an enemy of Babellion, including the general, will remain.
”Goldgang’s intuition is trustworthy. At the very least, it’s a reason to investigate.”
Morloi also thought so, and Felshiol recognized that Goldgang’s intuition had a certain value.
”There’s another report. According to Goldgang-sama, the general’s spirit will be lost due to the duel with the vice-general.”
”Is that so? But that’s not a reason to let our guard down.”
If Goldgang says so, it might be true. But they can’t just take it at face value and relax.
”Even if the general changes their mind, there’s still a possibility that someone will try to take advantage of it, so we can’t just sit back and do nothing.”
Felshiol’s words made the civil servant wonder.
”If Felshiol-sama had gone to Es-Cara Fortress, what would have happened?”
”Me? I wouldn’t have engaged in a duel or anything.”
Felshiol’s expression hinted that he was thinking deeply.
”That’s right… For example, let’s say a child picks a fight with the strongest warrior in the country. The child holds a wooden sword and says, ‘I’m stronger, let’s fight!’.”
It’s a ridiculous story, but anyone who doesn’t understand what it implies is probably not around.
”The general didn’t fight and left the child’s presence. Then the child bragged to the adults around them, saying the general was afraid of them and ran away. Do you think the people around them would believe that?”
”In other words, the problem wouldn’t have existed if the duel hadn’t been accepted?”
”At the very least, not accepting the duel means we wouldn’t have received any criticism or blame.”
Handing over the Es-Cara fortress is a decision made by the country. Even if the general disagrees, it’s not like they can defy it and make excuses. Logically, there’s no reason for Babellion to accept a duel, and if they’re told something, it’s the general who’s going against reason.
”But as Goldgang said, if they had some kind of plan, they wouldn’t back down from a duel even if they’re told to.”
However, it’s hard to say whether Goldgang was wrong or not.
”Nevertheless, if we assume that the result would have been a large or small-scale battle, it’s possible that the vice-commander’s life was saved due to Goldgang’s gift. But it’s impossible to judge who was right or wrong.”
Not fighting is still Felshiol’s idea. Felshiol wonders what others would have done in their place.
Faelrith the Dragon would have probably killed them like Goldgang. Or, since she doesn’t care about humans at all, she might have ignored them, saying “if you want to die, go ahead and kill yourself.”
What about Esmeralda? She might have found him interesting and charmed him, making him her favorite toy. But she doesn’t really like men who are too flashy and showy.
Moreover, as a vampire, she’s extremely strict about loyalty and following orders within her lord-vassal relationship. She wouldn’t ignore the king’s decision just because of a servant’s emotions; she might have bitten their neck and turned them into a dried-up corpse.
On the other hand, Satsuki is similar to Goldgang. She would have probably accepted the duel and beheaded him with one swing of her sword.
All of these are just Felshiol’s imagination. However, it’s a fact that Felshiol finds it difficult to assert what would have happened.
But one thing is certain.
”Goldgang chose his own path, so if we help him along that path, that’s all that matters.”
Goldgang chose to accept the duel. Therefore, it’s Felshiol and the civil servants’ job to prepare the path and make it seem like the right decision.
And so, while supporting each other, it’s their role as subordinates to back up Babellion and Charles.
