Chapter 138 Meeting With The Golden Crab
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
After parting with Isabella, I returned to the hotel. In the room, Lana was fast asleep on the bed.
”Zzz… fuu…”
I cleaned myself up and slipped into bed beside Lana. She’s so cute. But I just can’t help myself when it comes to getting involved with other girls. Men are sinful creatures, after all.
The next morning, I woke up to find Lana clinging to me. It was a bit suffocating, but my happiness far outweighed that.
I wish we could stay like this forever, but that’s not possible. I gently woke Lana up at a reasonable time.
”Mmm… ah, I was clinging to you…”
”It’s okay, don’t worry about it.”
”Was I too heavy or hot?”
”No, not at all.”
I patted Lana’s head. We’ve started doing this skinship thing with each other, and it’s really lovely.
For the next few days, I spent my time studying with Vitz. We did practical training, visited the library, and attended lectures on foreign cultures and technologies.
Of course, it was all very different from the magic academy’s curriculum. Lana’s choices were really spot on.
During that time, I received various letters. Most of them were from Isabella, sending me materials, and reports from the Midnight Fangs.
I also learned more about the Golden Crab’s shady dealings. It’s true that spending time on the outside gives me a different perspective.
I got information from tourist pamphlets, stories from the dorms, and warnings from instructors about certain areas to be careful around.
At night, I’d sneak out with Lana, holding hands and exploring the city.
It was pretty tough, but with Lana by my side, it wasn’t so bad. In fact, I was able to enjoy the skinship and it was quite fun.
For now, I’ll also move forward with the negotiations for a settlement with Golden Crab through Midnight Fangs. Well, I don’t really have any intention of settling, and I’m only thinking of selling them out to the police.
But they’re enthusiastic about it, and the talks are progressing quickly. However, getting caught up in the settlement talks also carries risks. Of course, I might get caught in a trap, and if I fail, I’ll lose my grip in an instant.
Still, it doesn’t seem like I’ll lose anything by meeting with them once.
On the 6th night after arriving from Vitz, I had my first meeting with Golden Crab.
The meeting took place in a warehouse near the harbor. I wore a mask to go there. By the way, I didn’t contact Isabella. Nothing decisive will happen today, anyway.
Only I and a few members of Midnight Fangs attended the meeting. They’re direct subordinates of Belzeda, and I know them, so I trust them.
As we entered the warehouse, we were led to a hastily prepared reception area. The table and sofa looked expensive, but the atmosphere was almost nonexistent since we were in a warehouse.
After waiting for a bit, a man with a strong face appeared, wearing a black jacket.
”Nice to meet you. I’m Neevas, an executive of Golden Crab.”
”This is Rose, representing Midnight Fangs.”
I only use this name, Rose, among colleagues. It’s a traditional and somewhat simplistic name I got from Manor of the Black Rose.
But for some reason, I thought I’d seen this middle-aged man’s face before… Ah, he’s the other half of the guy I sat next to on the train. In other words, he’s not the boss or an executive of Golden Crab, but just a negotiator who’s been pushed forward, a mere lizard’s tail.
One of my members whispered to me from behind.
”Boss, he’s the branch manager of Yarnus.”
I nodded in agreement. Yeah, that’s right. He’s not incompetent, but he’s not someone you’d want to die for either.
”Alright, let’s start with a toast. I have the finest wine available. Even the nobles in the royal capital can’t get their hands on it.”
”Sorry, but I’m not allowed to have any alcohol by my doctor. Would you mind if I had water instead?”
”Ah, that’s a shame. But Vitz’s water is excellent as well. Let me get it ready for you right away.”
After the toast, we shifted to small talk. Not talking about work right off the bat is a Mafia tactic. First, we create a friendly atmosphere and gauge each other’s intentions.
”I have to say, the scenery here is amazing. I was thinking of buying a villa around here.”
”We can prepare a villa for you if you’d like. There’s a great property near the station, on top of a hill.”
”Haha, if I didn’t have work, I’d definitely want to do that. But for now, I’m too busy, and even if I had a villa, it’d just gather dust.”
The conversation was mostly meaningless, but Neevas’s demeanor was calm, and my first impression of him wasn’t bad.
”Speaking of work, I hear your side is doing extremely well. We’re a bit envious, to be honest.”
This was the first time I’d touched on the underground job.
From here on out, it’s the main topic. I need to focus.
