Fake Survivor 6

Chapter 6

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

As I started hunting monsters other than goblins and their numbers began to dwindle, I began to feel that way.

The snow started falling gently, and I could feel the full onset of winter.

I used a long-handled brush to sweep the snow off my tent, and in between, I also brushed off the snow that had acc*mulated on me before returning to my tent.

”Ha. I’ve set up something like a vinyl house outside my tent, and it’s gotten better.”

I had realized that I could set up a dome-shaped tent that could withstand snowfall of up to 25kg, so I prepared it in advance.

I’m worried about the reflection of light, but since there are fewer people entering the forest during this time of year when there’s less prey, I think I’ll be fine even if it’s a bit conspicuous.

Besides, my tent is set up at the center of the mountain peak, so it can’t be seen from below.

After finishing my morning snow-clearing, I decided to spend the day indoors, practicing reading and writing without going out.

Since prey has almost disappeared and it’s become difficult to walk in the snow, I have to use my Magic Armor to move around, which means my magic power is in the red.

So, I’ve decided to hole up for the winter and conserve my magic power.

”Reading is fine, but writing is a different story.”

I can sort of read thanks to my family reading books to me, and I can study based on that… but as for writing, I just can’t get the hang of moving my pen.

”I guess if I just try to write, I’ll get closer to the correct answer. At the very least, if I can write something that can be read, that’s good enough.”

That’s how I started studying, but physically, long hours of studying are tough, and I ended up taking breaks to sleep.

Well, they say that sleeping children grow, and I want to maintain a decent physique, so when I’m sleepy, I don’t try to fight it and just sleep.

I want to become… an adventurer because of my profession.

It’s not that I want to hunt monsters or magical beasts and be a hero or anything; it’s because of my circumstances.

To get a normal job, you need the right social status and connections, but I don’t have either of those.

And even if I had the right social status, it’s not like I can prove I was born and raised in that land, since I was exiled and have no connections to that place. Proving it is impossible.

I thought about making a living by selling things I created with “Imitation”, but if someone who can appraise items like in the “Ceremony of Blessings” finds out, it’ll be a problem.

I don’t know what kind of judgment they’ll make, but if they find out it’s an “Imitation”, they’ll suspect it’s a fake, and at worst, they might think I’m a counterfeiter.

So, I’ve decided not to sell the things I make with “Imitation” to others and just use them myself.

The thing is, there are people who can see through my “fake” title, so it’s better for me to avoid getting close to people… But if I say I’m a “Magic Armor user”, they’ll probably believe me.

At the very least, those who can perform the “Ceremony of Blessings” will be convinced if I show them, and they’ll think my title is “Magic Armor user”.

Of course, there might be people who can see my title in letters, so I might get found out… But for now, I’m hiding here to build up my power.

If people in the city find out I’m Norn, a Faker, they might send someone to eliminate me, so I need to build up enough power to fend them off.

I’m not gonna hide and live in seclusion forever.

I’m already tired of living alone, and on top of that, it’s getting harder to earn magic stones with the changing seasons, so I need to think about earning a living in a different land.

That’s why I’m aiming to become an adventurer, and studying reading and writing is part of that.

I don’t know the details, but it’ll be useful for checking the workplace and job contents.

There’s a possibility that the characters they use in the place I’m headed are different from what I’ve studied, but… well, it won’t be a waste, so it’s not a problem.

After all, I’ve got nothing to do during the winter anyway.

So, on that day when the new year was about to begin…

 I… had caught a cold.

 ”Ugh, this is terrible.”

There was no one to take care of me, so I was being careful not to get sick, but when I woke up, I had those kinds of symptoms.

The symptoms are still mild, but as they say, “a cold is the root of all illnesses,” and if it gets worse, it could be life-threatening.

Maybe it’s a different illness, but for now, I’ll make some medicine with food and drink… and make a jelly drink to go with it.

There are all sorts of cold medicines, so I guess it’s good to get one that matches the symptoms… but due to the fever, I can’t remember which one was good.

Was it the one I always buy?

This is a hassle… I wish there was a quick fix that could cure everything.

Thinking that, I made the medicine, and what appeared was a small bottle with a yellow liquid inside.

”What’s this? There’s no label… is it okay to drink?”

But I thought, “I was able to make something that meets my expectations, so it shouldn’t be harmful,” and drank it.

 Gulp, gulp…

 Humm…

 ”Huh?”

After drinking the liquid, the effects were immediate, and all my cold symptoms disappeared.

It’s like those recovery items in games that take effect right away… but I guess this medicine is special in another world?

If it’s something that’s circulating normally, that’s fine, but if not, I’ll have to be careful about using it.

At least, I never heard of it while I was living at home.

Well, whatever… it’s good that my cold got better, so I’ll make sure to create medicine quickly if my health takes a turn for the worse again.

Since it consumes a lot of magical power, I’ll try to avoid using it as much as possible.

After that, I was more careful, so I didn’t catch a cold, and I spent the winter doing moderate exercise and living a shut-in life.

When winter passed, the number of monsters increased, and I, who felt relieved, resumed my life of hunting magical stones.

Thanks to my ability to sense magical stones, I could basically take the initiative, and I continued to earn magical stones just like before the winter seclusion.

As it got warmer, I gradually reduced my cold-weather gear, replaced my tent with a well-ventilated one with a mesh window, and lived comfortably…

”Ha… it’s gotten hot lately. Fans aren’t enough, and I need to make an air conditioner.”

And so, I created an air conditioner, which was great, but going out became a chore because it consumed a lot of magical power. I reluctantly went out to hunt magical stones.

I have a reserve of magical power, but it’s possible that I might suddenly need to use a large amount of it, like if I were to get kicked out suddenly or if I needed that medicine with immediate effects again.

Luckily, the humidity wasn’t as high as in Japan, and I didn’t experience any major accidents, so I was able to get through the summer.

 And so, autumn arrived again.

I continued living like this for about 5 years, and I remained in this forest.

As winter came to an end, I realized that the monsters that had decreased in number could now increase, and I judged that I could continue living here as is.

My body was growing steadily, and my height had exceeded 140cm ( 4 feet 7 inches)..

I wonder what the average height was in my previous life… Well, even if I wanted to investigate, I couldn’t do anything about it.

My ‘lower body’ was also functioning properly, and I probably had a healthy body, which was good enough.

This was my 6th autumn in this forest.

One day, as I was preparing to go hunting inside my tent, I sensed a powerful magical reaction coming from far away.

 ”What the…!?”

This was incomparable to the Orcs, and it was heading straight for the forest… The sky is clear!

As I stepped out of the tent, I saw with my own eyes… something that looked like a dragon flying towards me from the sky.
