Fake Survivor 10

Chapter 10

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

After that, Lunamaria flew off without a care, and after she left, I spent the winter conserving my magical power… and ended up spending 5 years in this forest.

Of course, I haven’t seen her since then.

Well, considering the Dragon’s lifespan and sense of time, it’s not surprising.

And so, I spent about ten years here, and I’m probably around 15 years old now. My appearance has changed a lot compared to when I was 5.

If no one knew me from before, they probably wouldn’t recognize me.

 It’s around autumn now.

There should be a decent number of travelers around for tax season and business, so it shouldn’t be unnatural for me to blend in with them, right?

Well, I’ve saved up my magical power over the past 5 years, so I shouldn’t have any trouble traveling.

If I can earn some magic stones on the way, I should be able to have a more stable journey.

I’ve also got a bit of a longing for people from my ‘experience’ with Lunamaria, so… today, I’ve decided to leave the forest.

As for my outfit and equipment, I’ll create standard items within my knowledge range using my magical power, and make sure they don’t stand out too much.

Since my reference point is from 10 years ago, my fashion sense might be a bit off from the current trends… but I’ll just say that I got them from my parents or that they’re retro, haha.

I’ll create whatever I need as I go, up until I leave the forest.

After that… heading west is the basic plan, and the route I take is important.

If possible, I’d like to avoid camping and stay in towns or villages at night, but… if I head straight west, it’ll look like I came from the east.

I want to minimize any connections to my real family in the east.

If I change course and head either north or south, I can say I came from either of those directions instead… yeah?

From now on, it’s the season to head towards winter, so naturally, I’ll be turning south.

So, I decided to leave the forest and head southwest.

I turned the setup back into my magical energy, and looked around the empty mountain top plaza.

Ten years, huh… I’ve lived longer in this world than in my real home.

The only acquaintance I have in this place is Lunamaria.

We lived together for about ten days, and even shared a ‘connection’.

She left because of me, and it seemed like she wished to reunite.

Five years have passed since then, so I thought it wouldn’t be weird if she showed up anytime… but traveling alone in winter is unnatural, so I should probably leave soon.

Well, she knows I’m heading west, and if she needs to, she’ll come from that direction.

I’ll leave a mark just in case.

And so, I created an arrow-shaped weight in the direction I’m heading and left the rocky mountain.

With my compass in hand, I occasionally looked up at the sky, checking my route and proceeding for several hours.

I detected a magical stone from afar and responded to the monster, and with my decent height at 15, I was making good progress, having left in the morning and reaching the edge of the forest by afternoon.

Is this the result of prioritizing meals, sleep, and moderate exercise?

When I observed the outside of the forest with binoculars… I couldn’t see any signs of human settlements or people, just a vast grassland.

If there were human settlements nearby, I would’ve avoided them and headed towards a different one, but…

Well, this is a forest where strong dragons roam, so it’s unlikely that humans would build settlements nearby.

However… it’s a bit of a problem that the view is too good.

The fact that it’s easy for me to see from here means it’s also easy for others to see from afar, which is bad for me since I want to hide my movement route.

No way, using up magic is tough, but I’ll make my Magic Armor transparent and move forward.

I have 5 years’ worth of magic saved up, and if I fly up high and transform my back into a huge glider-like wing, I can glide and reduce my magic consumption… I can cover a long distance and conserve my magic.

I thought that, and immediately put it into action, checking my altitude with a pressure gauge and gliding from around 5000 meters ( 16,404 feet) high.

At first, I just used my Magic Armor to get some momentum, and after that, I could fly naturally with lift.

Of course, this was because I had practiced in the forest, so it went smoothly; during my first practice, I didn’t have enough initial speed and dropped my altitude suddenly, which was frustrating.

But it was good that I practiced gliding long distances quickly while conserving my magic.

After a while, I had a comfortable journey through the air.

I was a bit worried about crossing national borders without permission, but there were no checkpoints, so I didn’t worry about it.

However, I was concerned about casting a shadow on the ground, so I kept my form transparent and thought about finding a suitable place to land.

I had already passed by several villages, and a decent-sized town would be fine…

But the “Adventurer’s Guild,” which handles requests for adventurers, doesn’t seem to be established in towns of that scale.

Of course, there wasn’t one in my hometown either.

And then I suddenly realized… I don’t have any money.

I’m sure they paid an entrance fee when I entered the town during the “Ceremony of Blessings.”

I didn’t have any money when I left my hometown, and… this area is a different country from my hometown, so I couldn’t use the currency from my hometown here.

Things created with magic power are seen as “Imitations” and might be suspected of being counterfeit, which is a hassle, so selling them for money is out of the question.

In that case… I’ll either have to obtain something valuable that exists normally and sell it, or receive money as compensation for some kind of labor.

If it’s the former, I’ll get something from monsters or gathering resources, and if it’s the latter, I’ll do some other kind of work.

Since I don’t have much knowledge about the former, and thanks to Magic Armor, I can do physically demanding work easily… I can do some kind of job in a place where I don’t need money to get in.

If I have a job, it’s all good.

Thinking that, I gradually descended and looked for a place where I could appear without a problem… and found a group of horse-drawn carriages lined up on the street, surrounded by goblins, with an armed guard team fighting back.

The horse pulling the lead carriage was down, and it seemed like they were caught off guard and surrounded.

However, the nearby forest was a bit far from the street, so it wasn’t like they could be attacked suddenly.

Are there enemies that can attack from a distance?

There’s a magic stone reaction on the edge of the forest… just one.

I descended transparently and checked the owner of the magic stone, and there was a goblin with a bow, pulling the string and aiming at something.

From behind, it looks like… they’re aiming for the horse.

I’ve encountered monsters like this in the forest I used to live in, who are smart and can use tools well.

Even with just one sword, the result can change greatly depending on whether the blade is sharp or not.

So if they can use a bow and are aiming for the lead carriage… this guy is a pretty intelligent monster.

The magic power of the magic stone seems high, and there’s only one arrow stuck in the downed horse, so maybe they have some special ability.

 … No choice.

Leaving them to die is out of the question, so I might as well lend a hand.

I decided to sneak up on them, making no sound, and cut the taut bowstring with wire cutters.

 Twang, Snap!

 ”Gii!?”

The string snapped, and the surprised goblin jumped back, startled by the sudden movement of the bow.

It frantically looked around, but since I was still invisible, it couldn’t find me.

For now… I guess this means the people on the carriage won’t get shot, and I might as well take this decent magic stone.

The guards on the carriage were able to defeat the group of goblins, which was about 3 times their number, thanks to their equipment.

However, it seems they’re still wary, probably because they recognized the goblin I took down.

If they think I’m the sniper who’s been targeting their horses, that would be a problem, so I’ll go down with the dead goblin’s body and the broken bow.
