Chapter 23
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I headed to the dungeon based on what I heard at the general store, using Magic Armor to disappear as I searched for that female adventurer.
I didn’t really have any obligation or duty to help her, but the fact that the culprits were using my skill made it feel like I wasn’t completely uninvolved.
Well, I suppose it would’ve been better if I had stepped forward earlier.
I couldn’t be sure what those men would do, but it was hard to imagine them committing a crime in the heavily populated 1st District.
So, I headed straight to 2nd District and started searching, relying on the magic stone’s reactions.
* * *
I floated to avoid making any noise that might give away my presence, but paying attention to the movement of the wind and the sound of it cutting through the air restricted my movement speed.
Even though I could bypass monsters, making the search fast enough, the magic stone’s reactions made it hard to distinguish between groups of adventurers and clusters of monsters.
Because of that, by the time I found her, that girl had been stripped naked and was on the verge of being violated by one of the men.
I immediately strangled him with a wire from my Magic Armor, pinning his arms and legs to the wall.
I did the same to the rest of the men, intending to wait for the girl to escape and then leave, but… she, still completely naked, likely unleashed flames with her magic on the men.
”Release!”
*Whoosh*!
So, she could use magic.
Was she unable to use it yesterday because her mouth was covered?
In the case of goblins, it seems they needed to recite spells out loud.
Still, that was a surprisingly short incantation.
After a while, all the men there were dealt with, so I deactivated all the wires from my Magic Armor that I had been gradually erasing.
What remained were charred, scattered “somethings.”
Well, the situation is really the men’s own fault, and I’m not sure how the law in this country sees it… but I suppose it could be considered her right.
Watching someone get killed was pretty stressful, but since I’ve fought humanoid monsters like goblins and orcs, it didn’t shock me too much.
So, after witnessing that girl exercising her rights, I tried to leave the place.
There was also the issue with Frederica in the dismantling area, and I really wanted to avoid any trouble as much as possible.
But just then, that girl reached out to the entrance of the room, extending her pinky finger and pointing it toward me.
Since I was hidden in a curved hallway and even if the flames reached me, I thought I’d be fine with my Magic Armor… but was she planning to use magic on me?
She must know that the power binding the men isn’t hers, and she should realize that the one she thinks is at the end of her finger is the one who helped her.
Even if she has her reasons, murder is a big deal, so maybe she thought about keeping me quiet since she was being watched.
If I just leave like this… would that girl have to live in fear of being reported forever?
As I thought about this, instead of magic flames, she spoke words.
”How about you come out?”
It seems she’s willing to talk, so I probably won’t be attacked right away.
In that case, I’ll show my face and say, “I’m an accomplice too, so I can’t report you,” to reassure her.
Thinking this, I switched my Magic Armor from camouflage mode to transparency mode and stood at the entrance of the room, looking the same as yesterday.
”You are…”
She looked at me with a surprised expression.
Was I unexpected to her?
It seems like skills and habits can develop, and I don’t think someone my age could do all this.
She has a half-sitting posture, stretching her left hand towards me, and hiding her right hand with her chest.
This posture emphasizes her overall style, and she’s focusing on that appearance, including her face… She opens her mouth again.
”Was it you who helped me yesterday, too?”
”…Well.”
As I answer like that, she… gets angry.
”! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?! If I knew it, they wouldn’t have put me in this kind of situation!”
That’s a pretty reasonable complaint.
But…
”Even if you say that, don’t you think it’s possible that they’re connected to a big organization or a powerful person? If that’s the case, it’s only natural for someone who’s been targeted to want to get away from you.”
”That’s… but wouldn’t you be able to do whatever you want with that kind of power?”
”I just got here to this city, and you’re telling me to stay on guard all the time? And even if I can respond, there’s a possibility that something might happen to me at a hotel or store, right?”
”Uh.”
It’s easy to imagine, and she looks worried, so I continue speaking.
”Well, in that case, I won’t say anything about today’s incident, and I won’t be involved with you anymore, so don’t worry.”
This beauty is pitiful, but… considering the situation, I don’t feel like I can relax at all, and I’ve said what I needed to say, so I’ll leave.
In response to my attitude, she tries to hold me back in a hurry.
”Hey, wait! Ah, just a minute!”
”What? Still something?”
”No, that’s… um…”
The fingers of her left hand, which had been pointed at me, spread open, and as she took a step toward me, her half-turned stance was released, allowing me to see her body almost head-on.
Her chest was still covered, but… her crotch was fully exposed.
That part of her was, quite literally, a barren wasteland.
”Huh? …Ah!”
Perhaps noticing my gaze, she quickly used her left hand to cover herself.
Well, since she wasn’t exposing herself by choice, it wouldn’t be proper to stare.
”My apologies. I’m leaving now, so your clothes…”
”Ah, no, wait just a second!”
”What? What is it?”
I responded with a slightly annoyed expression as she tried to stop me again… and she dropped both hands, exposing the part she had been hiding.
”I-I need to talk to you. And… you can keep looking if you’ll just listen?”
She said this with a bright red face.
Since she was willingly showing herself now, I would normally want to admire her without hesitation.
However… I shook my head.
”I can’t stay here long. There are still some of the guards left, and they’ll likely come to check on things soon.”
”Huh? Didn’t you deal with them?”
”No, I slipped through quickly when I saw an opening.”
In reality, I passed by unnoticed because I was invisible, but I’ll just gloss over that here.
Invisibility is a technique that could easily be misused, and if questioned, I wouldn’t be able to deny it.
”Really? They were supposed to be keeping watch to make sure no one unrelated came here, so I wonder how you managed that…”
She seemed puzzled by my explanation, but upon hearing that the guards were still around, she began to panic.
”But, now’s not the time to worry about that. Since they’ve seen my face, if I head outside like this…”
”Huh? Can’t you just handle this with your magic like before?”
”I can’t do anything until I confirm whether they’re members of the gang or not, even if you’re pretending to be a random person.”
It’s reasonable to think that you wouldn’t want to accidentally shoot a random person.
”Ah, I see… So, I’ll pretend to be one of their gang members and bring them here, okay?”
”You? They’re from the same company, and it’s not going to be easy, is it?”
”Guess so…”
”And even if it works out, the smell of burning incense might give them away, and someone might come to investigate if they don’t hear any men’s voices coming from this room…”
”And they might report back to their friends and escape, and even if we take care of them quickly, someone will probably make a phone call to the outside.”
*Nod, nod*.
She nodded at my words and continued to discuss the strategic problem.
”And… actually, I can’t use magic anymore.”
”What? Why… Oh, it’s because of the catalyst, right?”
”No, it’s the magic itself. The catalyst might be lacking, too…”
”Ugh…”
In the worst-case scenario, I could use a “magic item that won’t be noticed by anyone” to cover us with Magic Armor, and we could escape the dungeon just like before. However, if we do that, the people in this room will think that they are killed by the girl, and she’ll be targeted by other gang members and the ones behind them.
So… I guess I have no choice.
”Hah… Don’t move, okay.”
*Squish*.
I decided to do something and approach her, and at the same time, I grabbed her chest and started rubbing it.
Of course, she was surprised.
”What?… Gah! What are you doing?”
Perhaps deciding that it wasn’t the right time to raise her voice, her protest was quiet, but she resisted by grabbing both of my arms with her hands.
She didn’t step back, likely because I had told her not to move.
I explained my actions to her.
”I’m getting paid in advance for what I’m about to do.”
”For what’s next?”
”I’ll need to take care of the guards and bring them here. But… I’ve killed humanoid monsters before, but I’ve never killed a human.”
”Ah…”
At that, her hands, which had been resisting by holding onto my arms, dropped.
I don’t know much about her, but she doesn’t seem to be a cruel person, so she probably understood my feelings.
”Um… you can take as long as you need.”
At her softly spoken words, I continued moving my hands for a while… and afterward, more than 20 “somethings” were added to that room.
