Fake Survivor 37

Chapter 37

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Well, I ended up in a confusing situation with a confusing girl, but… I finally managed to go out.

After leaving “Silver Orchid Inn,” I’m heading to get Seria’s reservation.

I need to let her know that the magic catalyst from “Hooters” will be delivered, and I have to make sure she receives it as we discussed.

By now, she should be at the tent next to the dungeon entrance, and since she knows I’m coming to make the reservation, she should be turning down any offers to hire her.

I haven’t had breakfast yet, so I want to grab something from a nearby food stall, but I can’t eat in my “Mose” form.

I’ll meet Seria, take care of business, and then enjoy a meal as “Koji.”

* * *

When I arrived in front of the dungeon, I approached Seria, who was at the Cleric’s tent, just as I expected.

 ”Oh, Mr. Mose. Good morning!”

Seria noticed me coming closer and stood up to greet me.

Since there were people near her today, I decided to communicate by writing, so I took out some paper and a pen.

”(The package will arrive today. Is it okay to make the reservation for tomorrow?).”

”Yes. Just let the department in charge of the lodging know about the package. The reservation for the dispatch can be made at the reception right after you enter the chapel.”

”(Can anyone request a dispatch, not just adventurers?).”

Since I’m not registered as an adventurer in my “Mose” form, if a registration certificate is needed for the reservation, I would have to ask Iris to come…

To my question, Seria looked surprised.

 ”Huh? You weren’t an adventurer?”

 ”(More like a mercenary… I guess.).”

Given my current situation, that’s probably the closest description, so I answered that way.

Seria seemed to have no doubts about that answer, nodding in agreement and continuing the conversation.

”Ah, I see. As long as the Cleric is present, just their name is enough for the reservation. If needed, you can even make a reservation with just the Cleric.”

”(But can’t the Cleric make a fake reservation to make it look like they are in demand?).”

I asked if the number of reservations and days dispatched would affect their evaluation, which could increase their income, but Seria shook her head.

”No, evaluations are based only on the actual profits made. Even if there are false dispatch records, if the performance during the actual dispatch doesn’t meet expectations, complaints will come in accordingly…”

If there are too many complaints, an investigation into the dispatch records will happen, and if there are false records, there will be punishments.

I see, then there’s no point for the Cleric to create false records at their own expense.

Besides, it feels strange that those calling themselves Clerics are so focused on profit… Well, religious teachings are often created by whoever starts them or changed by those who take over for their own convenience.

Satisfied with Seria’s explanation, I followed her to the chapel and submitted the Cleric dispatch request at the reception.

”You’re ‘Mr. Mose,’ right? Have you been informed that the dispatch fee and the cost of the holy water are separate?”

 ”(I’ve been informed, no problem.).”

Just to be safe, I thought it would be better to show my face, so I showed the paper with the face I had shown Seria yesterday to the male receptionist.

”Um… could you hold on a moment?”

He checked the contents of the paper I showed me and said this while gesturing to lend me an ear.

Is this a conversation I shouldn’t let Seria hear?

As I leaned in to listen to him… well, it was definitely not something to share with her.

”Um, her healing magic has a small effect, so please be careful.”

”(I heard that too, it’s not a problem.).”

 ”Oh, I see. Then…”

It seems that Seria’s skill or title called “Minor Heal” is known among Clerics, and the receptionist confirmed this before proceeding with my request.

”…Yes. So, I have made a reservation for tomorrow, requesting Ms. Seria.”

I nodded in response and tried to leave, but I was stopped.

”Ah, um… since you are aware of the earlier matter, if you decide to cancel, it will be on your terms. In that case, if you file a complaint, it could be a problem for you, and we may refuse to send Clerics in the future, so please be careful.”

Ah, I heard that troublesome customers can be restricted or refused service.

If I file a complaint about something I agreed to, I might end up on their blacklist.

So, I nodded again and left the chapel with Seria.

”Well then, I’m heading to the dorm. I’ll ask someone to pick up my stuff.”

”…Can’t you just pick it up yourself if you’re free?”

After confirming that there were no people around, I replied to Seria.

I thought it would lower the chance of someone seeing inside, but she answered with a wry smile.

”Um, well, I might have to work, you know. Of course, I’ll only take jobs that won’t interfere with tomorrow’s work…”

”So you don’t want to miss any chance to earn, even for a day.”

”Well… even just waiting over there will earn me a little bit of money. I need to make as much as I can.”

Speaking of which… I remembered yesterday when she first called me as “Koji.” I mentioned wanting to heal myself with my healing magic or asking if there was someone else who could help.

I might be able to heal with the medicine I made using “Imitation,” but for now, I have no intention of teaching anyone my ability in this city.

So, I just said “I see” to Seria and walked away from the square in front of the dungeon.

Now… in a secluded alley, I returned to being “Koji,” grabbed a meal at a stall in the square, and then headed to the dismantling area of the Adventurer’s Guild.

The reason was that I wanted to ask Frederica something, so I stood in front of her at the corner reception, where she looked a bit lazy but not too much.

”…Hmm? Oh, you’re here today. What do you need?”

 ”I have a question.”

”Why the formal speech… Ah, I see, you’re switching it up with me. So, what do you want to ask?”

She briefly wondered about my attitude but quickly realized I was emphasizing that I was different from “Mose” and asked what I needed.

”Um. Is there a room I can rent by myself?”

 ”A room? Not an inn?”

”Yeah. I want a room where no one else can come in.”

 Exactly.

I came here because I want to wash my body and I’m looking for a place where I won’t be seen.

I create hot water and a bathtub to take a bath, so if there are people around, it would definitely draw attention and cause trouble.

Just to be clear, in inns with wells, there are stone water areas designed for drainage, and they say you can set up screens to take a bath… but right now, it’s autumn and a bit chilly, and for me, who has been used to bathing in hot water, it’s a bit tough.

In the future, when winter comes, it will be even tougher, so I want to check if I can secure a place to bathe soon.

Things created with “Imitation” can be turned back into magical power, so I can erase hot water, bathtubs, and detergents… but the dirt and the smell of the detergent that fell from me will remain.

If I bathe in my room at the inn, even if the dirt is not a problem, if they notice the smell, they will start to wonder about its source, and that would be a hassle.

 That’s why I want to rent a room, but…

”So why are you coming to my place?”

 That’s a reasonable question, so I answer.

”Well, I thought maybe you had connections like ‘Hooters.’.”

 ”…Well, I can’t say I have none.”

I almost said it was because she looked bored, but I managed to correct myself and got that answer out of her.

”Just so you know, I don’t know directly.”

 ”Then who does?”

”Monoka. She sometimes goes with girls who are leaving the orphanage to help them find their own rooms.”

At a certain age, you have to leave that orphanage, so you need to find a job and a place to live by then.

Well, it seems that if you find a job, you usually find a place to live too, but trust is important, and those without it might be asked for a guarantor, and Ms. Monoka has apparently been accompanying them in their room searches.

The guarantor mentioned here is almost the same as in Japan in my previous life, where if the person renting the room can’t pay the rent, the guarantor will pay on their behalf.

If there’s a difference… it seems that dangerous methods are used quite normally.

So, it seems that Ms. Monoka doesn’t cooperate with just anyone.

”So, why not just ask that girl? And while you’re at it, why not pick up the magic stones you left for sorting?”

”Yeah, I’ll do that. But I don’t think the sorting of the magic stones will be that far along in just one night, right?”

There are regular tasks to handle, and sorting the magic stones can be done visually, so it would probably be better to do it during the day.

If they use lights at night, they would have to use oil or candles, and right now, the orphanage, which is struggling financially, wouldn’t waste those resources.

”Well, just collect what you can. There are only 2 types of magic stones in the 2nd District, so it should be worth a decent amount. You already withdrew most of it yesterday, right?”

”Well, yeah. Did you look into it?”

 ”Yeah.”

It seems she was aware that I had withdrawn most of the money I had deposited in the guild to buy a decent amount of magic catalysts.

That’s because I can earn it back quickly… but it seems Frederica is still concerned about me.

”There’s also taxes, and it would be a problem if you got kicked out of the city. For the orphanage’s sake, I need you to keep earning in this city.”

What she was worried about was the orphanage.

 Well, let’s move on.

”So, can adventurers rent a room?”

”Some companies rent entire buildings, so if you have a guarantor or an equivalent amount of money, that should work.”

”Oh, so money is okay too?”

”I think it depends on the lender. Well, you should ask Monoka about that.”

”I understand. Then I’ll go ask now.”

Saying that, I decided to leave the dismantling area and head to the orphanage where Ms. Monoka is.
